Plot of Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Movie Sounds Like Ryan Reynolds’ Hit Netflix Movie but in Space
Image
Familiarity isn’t always comfort—sometimes it’s déjà vu in drag. That’s the thought that parked itself in our brain the second we stumbled upon the Star Wars: Starfighter leak. Ryan Gosling in this Star Wars flick directed by Shawn Levy? Okay, intriguing. But then came the leaked plot: a 15-year-old on the run with his uncle—Gosling—being chased by bad guys across galaxies. Wait a second… isn’t it similar to The Adam Project—with zero gravity added?

Unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Japan, Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter is allegedly set five years post-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, giving us laser swords, daddy issues, and yes, a full-throttle family dynamic. Sound familiar? Levy’s done this emotional-action sandwich before, with Stranger Things, Real Steel, and of course, The Adam Project.

But now he’s doing it in space—with Gosling, not Reynolds. The formula’s unchanged.

Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Star Wars: Starfighter – Shawn Levy Lucasfilm movie with Ryan Gosling has a release date + Mandalorian & Grogu footage screened
Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
We’re going back to a galaxy far, far away – and this time on the big screen with some bona fide A-listers attached. Indeed, Lucasfilm and Disney announced during Star Wars Celebration that their long-rumoured new addition to the franchise starring Ryan Gosling, and directed by Shawn Levy, is officially going forward, and will be hitting theatres sooner than you think. The film, Star Wars: Starfighter, is set for a May 28, 2027, release, which is almost one year to the day following their first Star Wars movie in seven years, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which has a May 22, 2026, release date.

The move marks a strong shift in Disney’s approach to making Star Wars content, which has been mostly consigned to streaming series as of late. Many new shows, such as The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, fell flat with fans and performed weakly, making it seem like this is more of...

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 Features A Controversial Real-World Sports Trend
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.

"Cobra Kai" Season 6 contains all of the soap opera drama and over-the-top action that we want from this series, but it's also locked into the world of combat sports. From casting real-life martial artists like Brandon H. Lee to play villains to showcasing a variety of fighting styles, the creators of the YouTube-turned-Netflix series pay respect to the athletes and disciplines that inspired the show. However, that doesn't mean the "Karate Kid" spin-off is afraid to address the more controversial subjects in the fighting realm, as Season 6 explores the use of artificial intelligence as a training device.

"Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 2 used AI to bring Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi back from the dead, but Season 6's third -- and final -- installment looks at how the tool is utilized in everyday society. While training for the Sekai Taikai,...

Vin Diesel Teases His 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots' Action Movie
Image
Fast and Furious and Riddick star Vin Diesel has his sights set on another heavy-hitting action franchise, with the actor taking to social media to tease his role in the upcoming adaptation of the classic toy game Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. First announced back in 2021, the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots movie will see Mattel Films team up with Universal Pictures and Vin Diesel's One Race Films for this live-action adaptation of the beloved toy, which finds players taking control of two dueling robot boxers and smashing buttons until one of their heads comes off.

While it doesn’t initially seem like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots has the depth needed for a movie, it’s likely that the adaptation will be akin to something like the 2011 sci-fi action outing, Real Steel. It is not yet known whether Vin Diesel will play a human or a robot in the movie,...

When Ryan Reynolds Almost Pulled A Hilariously Gross Prank On Deadpool & Wolverine Co-Star Hugh Jackman

What Food Prank Did Ryan Reynolds Pull On Hugh Jackman? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s legendary prank war hit a new gross high—or, technically, a low. In an interview, Reynolds revealed the hilariously disgusting prank he almost pulled on Jackman. The actor, known for his quick wit and love of a good laugh, shared his plan to send Jackman a sushi platter. The catch? It wouldn’t be sushi at all. “The whole thing was just made out of old Band-aids,” Reynolds confessed, doubling down on their signature rivalry.

This wasn’t Reynolds’ first retaliation. The prank idea came in response to Jackman’s equally revolting gag proposal last year. Jackman had teased the idea of a “ding-dong ditch” birthday surprise featuring none other than “dog poo.” Reynolds, ever the quipster, couldn’t resist calling Jackman out on his polite phrasing. “First of all, only...

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The world had to wait six years to see Ryan Reynolds suit up as the Merc with a Mouth following the commercial success of 2018's "Deadpool 2," but it's fair to say the wait was worth it. The resulting third installment in the franchise was "Deadpool & Wolverine" which, as the title implies, finally united Reynolds on screen with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. It was a resounding success, ranking as one of the biggest movies of 2024. Making this movie a reality was no small task, and a myriad of wild ideas were thrown around before they landed on this team-up.

"Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine" is now streaming on Disney+ and offers a lot of insight from the filmmakers into how the movie was made. "I think Ryan had 19, 20 ideas throwing anything at the wall," Reynolds said in the documentary.

The return of Hugh Jackman as Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine is a great reminder to watch his underrated 2011 sci-fi film from the same director, Shawn Levy. Deadpool & Wolverine's Hugh Jackman Recalls Gory Accident on First X-Men
Image
Hugh Jackman, the actor behind the Wolverine suit who was seen mostly recently opposite Deadpool in the franchise's latest installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, recalls how the legendary claws of the X-Men character weren't always "safe." Jackman has shared how the original X-Men film featured his character fighting Mystique in one of the several action sequences, but there was a design issue that caused some wounds to bleed real blood.

As reported by Cinema Blend, Jackman went on the show Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? to expand on the incident that took place during the production of the 2000 film that started the entire X-Men franchise. As he analyzed the scene clip, Jackman said:

"In that fight, I actually stabbed the double of Mystique. So like in the beginning I dont know what we were thinking they were actually metal, and they were actually sharp...I had to get used to another...

‘Boxer’ Netflix Review: Polish Sports Drama Is As Boring And Unimaginative As Its Title
Image
As someone who has never punched somebody in this lifetime, I do love to watch movies about boxing. Yes, it’s a pretty nonsensical sport, but when every punch, jab, and hook is injected with complex emotions and whatnot, it does make for an enjoyable viewing experience. I grew up watching the Rocky movies, and the sequel franchise, Creed, is pretty damn good. Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull is a masterpiece, and there’s no doubt about that. Cinderella Man, The Fighter, and Southpaw are some other amazing examples. Veering away from the traditional “hero’s journey” format, there’s The Harder They Fall, The Hurricane, Million Dollar Baby, and, dare I say, Real Steel. Indian movies have fared quite well in this subgenre with Mukkabaaz, Sarpatta Parambarai, and Irudhi Suttru by talking about politics in sports, casteism, and sexism. Boxer, the Polish Netflix film, aims to show yet another...

Fans Were Robbed of an Even Better Minecraft Movie Than the One They're Getting
Image
Rob McElhenney's version of the Minecraft movie was initially planned to embrace the game's open-world concept. Steve Carell was originally cast in Rob McElhenney's version of the film. Despite its rocky development, A Minecraft Movie deserves a fair chance to impress audiences.

The trailer for A Minecraft Movie, which is set to be released in the spring of 2025, was released on September 4th, 2024. Even though the movie is an adaptation of one of the most popular video games of all time and stars successful, fan-favorite Hollywood actors like Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge, this trailer was met with much negativity. Although these are all assumptions, many fans feel that the story and characters seem to be heading in a typical direction audiences have sat through many times before.

However, its important to mention that some have been overly critical of the few major parts of...

Real Steel Is Hugh Jackman's Best Action Movie with No Wolverine
Image
Quick Links Real Steel Is Rocky With Robots Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy Bring Out the Best in Each Other Why Real Steel Deserves a Sequel

The 2011 science fiction actioon film Real Steel marked the first screen collaboration between director Shawn Levy and star Hugh Jackman, who developed a close friendship during the making of Real Steel, in which Jackman plays a former professional boxer whose sport has been taken over by fighting robots. Following Real Steel, Jackman and Levys friendship expanded to include Ryan Reynolds, who previously appeared with Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and later collaborated with Levy in the films The Adam Project and Free Guy. Of course, Jackman, Levy, and Reynolds eventually joined forces in Deadpool & Wolverine, which has become the highest-grossing film of their careers.

Real Steel had been relatively forgotten over the past decade prior to the announcement and release of Deadpool & Wolverine,...

This Twilight Zone Episode Is Also a Hugh Jackman Movie
Image
Now that director Shawn Levy has been reunited with Hugh Jackman for Deadpool & Wolverine, it's the perfect time to revisit their 2011 classic, Real Steel. This sci-fi boxing drama starred Jackman as former boxer turned robot trainer Charlie Kenton, who is forced to build a robot boxer with his son when automated machines replace the sport. While this might feel like an original concept, the film was an adaptation of a short story titled Steel, written by notable science-fiction and horror author Richard Matheson. Of course, more well-known, is The Twilight Zone episode of the same name that aired in October 1963, starring Lee Marvin as Tim "Steel" Kelly, a former boxer who decides to go a round in the ring with a robotic counterpart. If you haven't seen this original series episode, consider this your starting bell.

“That would be a great storyline”: Anthony Mackie’s Real Steel 2 Pitch Can Bring Hugh Jackman Back into the $1 Billion Club after Deadpool & Wolverine
Image
Although Anthony Mackie has started to spend his time saving the world from villains with his red, white, and blue shield, in the early years of his career, he starred in many iconic films that shaped him into the iconic star that he is today. In 2011, the actor starred in the cult-classic film, Real Steel, alongside the legendary Hugh Jackman. Although the film did not break records, it has always had a very loyal fanbase that appreciates the uniqueness of its concept.

So much so, that even though the movie came out more than a decade ago, it still has fans begging for more. It would seem, however, that the fans are not the only ones who see the potential in its story.

“It slightly subverted Clint’s history”: The One Clint Eastwood Movie That Inspired Hugh Jackman’s ‘Logan’ Before Returning for Deadpool & Wolverine
Image
Before Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman starred in what he thought to be his final appearance as Wolverine in Logan. Among the Fox X-Men films, Logan stood out as a film that subverted the expectations of viewers about a superhero film. It is not surprising considering Jackman cited Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven and Mickey Rourkle’s The Wrestler as inspirations for the film.

Eastwood’s 1992 film was one film from the Western genre that dared to visit themes which remained unexplored in films before that. Unforgiven was the Academy Award winner that year for Best Picture, with a Best Director win for the Dirty Harry actor.

Reminiscence Was a Box Office Bomb but Hugh Jackman Fans Make It a Netflix Hit
Image
Hugh Jackman has had quite a few box office successes over the course of his career. These range from one-offs like Real Steel and Les Misrables to his extensive tenure playing Marvel's Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, including the genuine financial juggernaut (no mutant pun intended) that is Deadpool & Wolverine. There was also 2017's musical The Greatest Showman, which netted a massive $435 million on a budget of just $84 million.

Unfortunately, the film that reteamed Jackman with his Greatest Showman co-star, Rebecca Ferguson, failed to make nearly as substantial an impact. That movie would be Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy's 2021's neo-noir sci-fi mystery thriller Reminiscence, which crashed and burned on the big screen, earning $16.4 million against a price tag of at least $54 million. It's also one of the few movies to have just about the exact same reaction from critics and audiences alike, getting 36% from critics and 37% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaking with Variety, the director clarified the situation, and thanked fans everywhere for providing a much-needed smokescreen that they could play behind. Check out his comments below.

Free Guy 2: Shawn Levy isn’t optimistic the sequel will happen
Image
Free Guy was a big hit upon its release in 2021, grossing over $300 million during the pandemic. Disney was quick to get the ball rolling on a sequel, but so far, we’ve heard very little about Free Guy 2, and director Shawn Levy isn’t optimistic it will ever happen.

While speaking with THR, Levy had this to say when asked about Free Guy 2: “We’ve worked for two years on ideas and scripts. I’m less certain now, because, like Adam Project, we’re really proud of the movie and we don’t need to make sequels. If we don’t crack a story that feels very worth making, we’d rather just make a different movie.” Although I had fun with Free Guy, it wasn’t a movie that screamed “I need a sequel” to me. As Levy said, not every movie needs a sequel, and if they...

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy on creative empowerment and secrets to success
Image
Films directed by Shawn Levy – a list that includes Big Fat Liar, Just Married, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, the Night at the Museum trilogy, Date Night, Real Steel, and Free Guy, among others – have earned about 3 billion dollars at the global box office, and that number is likely to receive a substantial boost with the release of Levy’s contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine, this weekend. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Levy revealed his five “secrets to success” and discussed the creative empowerment he felt while working with Marvel Studios.

While it’s often assumed that Marvel micromanages their productions and doesn’t give directors space to be creative, Levy said, “Contrary to so many assumptions out there, and even within myself before I had this experience, I’ve been arguably more creatively empowered and trusted on this movie than just about...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Review: Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Deliver – And Then Some – In Dream Blockbuster Pairing For The MCU
Image
When Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2018, Fox’s big R-rated, foul-mouthed, quippy hit Deadpool was riding high on its first sequel, which came quickly after the 2016 Ryan Reynolds-led movie broke out. Even though the character came from the Marvel label, it was hard to imagine him fitting comfortably into the less edgy PG-13 Marvel Cinematic Universe owned by Disney, at least short of censoring what made the character, as invented by Reynolds, so much fun.

Now six years later, adding another infamous Marvel character, Wolverine from the X-Men Fox franchise, comes a dream teaming for fans with the first R-rated MCU movie and only MCU theatrical release of 2024. The results for Deadpool & Wolverine are, in so many ways, out of this world.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Director Shawn Levy: Hollywood’s PG Guy Finds His Edge
Image
Shawn Levy has long chafed at the labels Hollywood has placed upon him.

That helps explain the evolution of the Montreal-born filmmaker from go-to family comedy guy (Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen) to the producer of cerebral Oscar winners (Arrival) and cultural behemoths (Stranger Things).

After a string of successes in the aughts, Levy branched out with the 2011 Amblin-esque feature Real Steel, which earned nearly $300 million globally and showed he could bring his trademark emotionality to the action sphere. It also teamed him with Hugh Jackman, who, like others who have worked with the producer-director, says he creates an empathetic environment on set. “There isn’t one scene that necessarily was ‘the moment we clicked,’ ” Jackman recalls. “It was more a feeling on Real Steel that it made me know this was going to be a lifelong friendship.”
