Unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Japan, Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter is allegedly set five years post-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, giving us laser swords, daddy issues, and yes, a full-throttle family dynamic. Barbie‘s Ken is set to headline director Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars project, confirmed to be Star Wars: Starfighter. Ryan Gosling will star in the just-announced addition to the Star Wars franchise, with Lucasfilm targeting a fall 2025 start of production.

The title and confirmation of Gosling’s involvement were announced during the 2025 Star Wars Celebration in Japan. Sw fans can expect the film to see a May 28, 2027 theatrical release.

The Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy Star Wars project has been kicked into light speed. The movie’s title has been officially announced as Star Wars: Starfighter, with a theatrical launch date of May 28, 2027. The summer blockbuster will arrive just three weeks after Disney drops another franchise behemoth, Avengers: Secret Wars, creating a double-header of epic proportions at the box office.

Levy, who last directed Deadpool and Wolverine and injected a new burst of life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will attempt to do the same with this Star Wars franchise installment. The title reveal came during the culminating moments of the Star Wars Celebration Convention in Tokyo, where both Gosling and Levy appeared on stage.

The world had to wait six years to see Ryan Reynolds suit up as the Merc with a Mouth following the commercial success of 2018's "Deadpool 2," but it's fair to say the wait was worth it. The resulting third installment in the franchise was "Deadpool & Wolverine" which, as the title implies, finally united Reynolds on screen with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. It was a resounding success, ranking as one of the biggest movies of 2024. Making this movie a reality was no small task, and a myriad of wild ideas were thrown around before they landed on this team-up.

Hugh Jackman, the actor behind the Wolverine suit who was seen mostly recently opposite Deadpool in the franchise's latest installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, recalls how the legendary claws of the X-Men character weren't always "safe." Jackman has shared how the original X-Men film featured his character fighting Mystique in one of the several action sequences, but there was a design issue that caused some wounds to bleed real blood.

As someone who has never punched somebody in this lifetime, I do love to watch movies about boxing.
