’90s nostalgia is in full swing, and horror fans are loving it. Many people are revisiting movies they grew up with, while others are discovering those same titles for the first time. And it’s not only cinematic terror that has everyone talking.
Over the past couple of years, the interest in retro books has been on the rise. Combined with ’90s sentimentality, teen horror fiction from the decade has become a special niche for collectors, many of whom are part of Instagram’s enthusiastic community of “bookstagrammers.”
A large portion of the teen horror titles released during the ’90s are now available in e-book format, but the original editions with their colorful covers and witty taglines are the ones we look for while perusing the shelves of used bookstores.
Here at Daily Dead, during a series of seasonal posts, I’m going to be sharing books from my own collection.

According to the character description, "When Pierce starts developing a connection with Decker (Lauren German), Lucifer's devilish traits are inflamed."
The season two finale saw Lucifer taking care of Mom, aka Charlotte (Tricia Helfer). In the beginning of the third season he'll face an "even greater challenge – finding out who kidnapped him, and why his angel wings are back."

Is it too much to hope for in a multiplex horror movie that it’ll deal with adult themes, have a few memorable lines and won’t be shot like a music video? Yes, it is, so the most you can ever hope for is a visceral thrill.
If nothing else, the so-called “torture porn” fad delivered that, but far more profitable (and hence attractive to studios) was the trend for PG-13 horror pictures. When The Sixth Sense made $672 million worldwide, making it one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, studios interpreted its success as a sign that non-restrictive ratings were key in developing the next blockbuster. They were seemingly proved correct when, a few years later, Gore Verbinski’s remake of The Ring made nearly $250 million worldwide.

British filmmaker Rupert Wainwright has directed features ranging from Disney's “Blank Check” to the horror movies “Stigmata” and “The Fog,” but he's currently tackling a very different assignment — selling Russia to the rest of the world for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. As founder of Los Angeles-based advertising agency Adore Creative, Wainwright developed and produced a series of short films that helped Russia win its bid to host the World Cup in 2018. Adore also created and produced several TV commercials and promotional films that helped Russia land this year's Sochi Winter Olympic Games, the 2013 University Games (the...

Unfortunately for me, before Scream Factory announced that they would be releasing Deadly Eyes to Blu-ray, I had never even heard of the film. As often as I frequented the video store(Daily, for the 5-for-5-for-5 deals), I never even saw Deadly Eyes on the shelf. Had someone explained to me back then, or any time since, that a film exists wherein they strap giant rat costumes to the backs of small dogs, and get them to attack people by stuffing dog food in their pockets, I would have been on a mission to find said movie, because that sounds awesome. Does it not? On the bright side, this means that my first exposure to this film, was Scream Factory’s gorgeous Blu-ray release, stuffed with extras exposing everything I could ever want to know about these dogs dressed up as killer rats. Even before I watched the interviews on the disc,...

Who doesn't love movies that take place in loony bins? Psychos are just fun to be around, man. Psychos on the loose are even better! Anything can and will happen. Good thing for us fellow nuts that P5ych is on its way!
Cinema Management Group launched sales at Cannes on the upcoming horror thriller P5ych from Saw franchise producer Peter Block.
Block and fellow producer Maxwell Sinovi have offers out to Paul Bettany (Priest) and Paul Giamatti (John Dies at the End) to star.
“P5ych centres on the postmodern conceit of five patients undergoing experimental treatment whose real-life experiences inspired horror staples such as Friday The 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. When the former victims are made to confront their fears, the memories become real and the body count begins to rise.”
Matthew Currie Holmes, who appeared in The Fog and Firewall, will direct.

Maggie Grace is trouble. And we like that.
Maggie was stranded on a deserted island (and later "voted off," so to speak) on "Lost," haunted by an evil mist in "The Fog," kidnapped and sold into sex slavery (or at least drugged-up dancing) in "Taken" and taken hostage during a riot on a prison spaceship in "Lockout." And she looked really, really good in every single scenario.
Now Maggie's causing all sorts of drama (and war and death, perhaps) for the Cullen clan in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." Check out our collection of pics of this troubled young lady looking hot (and often bothered) throughout the years in movies, television and on the red carpet.

Matthew Currie Holmes is probably best known to horror fans all over as "M" from Joe Lynch's Wrong Turn 2 and several other notable genre roles, but now he's embarking on a new career path that's taking him behind the camera - as a director.
Recently Holmes launched a new Kickstarter campaign for his upcoming first-ever feature film called P5YCH, which follows a group of survivors whose attacks served as the inspiration behind five of the biggest horror movies of all time.
Since we here at Dread Central are suckers for anything willing to throw the genre on its head, we recently caught up with the up-and-coming indie filmmaker to hear more about how he got started in the industry, making the transition to director and the plans for the feature film of P5YCH.

Hollywood loves its hot young-ish stars, from the Ryans (Gosling and Reynolds), to Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp, even Zac Efron -- and my future second husband, James Franco. Together, these fine fellows have returned billions in box office earnings, not to mention an Oscar nomination or two.
But what about the boys who labor on screen, but whose popularity is more than a smidge less than their superstar brethren? After all, for every super-hot Bradley Cooper, there’s an equally hot but underused Justin Bartha. And for every magnificent specimen like Chris Evans, there’s, well, Chris Evans.
Here are 12 Hollywood actors whose presence on big and little screens is a great mixture of talent, brains and a beautiful expanse of brawn. Their careers may not curently have the luster they deserve, but with luck, timing, and the right part, they could be on the verge of superstardom.

Star-studded newcomers 50/50, Dream House and What's Your Number? all finished behind Courageous yesterday, which managed to attract a solid Christian audience on Friday. Still, even Courageous didn't have what it took to beat last weekend's leaders Moneyball, Dolphin Tale and The Lion King. Moneyball took the top spot for the second Friday in a row, dropping 43 percent to an estimated $3.85 million for an eight-day total of $29.8 million. That decline was slightly worse than last year's The Social Network (40 percent) but a vast improvement over Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (53 percent). The Brad Pitt baseball flick should finish the weekend with around $12 million, which probably won't be good enough for first place over Dolphin Tale. Dolphin Tale dipped a light 32 percent to an estimated $3.47 million, bringing its eight-day total to $26.7 million. Based on past similar movies, it should move up to first place by Sunday with a weekend take of roughly $14 million.

Following the unmasking of the new less than lacklustre (and more romantic novel artwork) one-sheet for Bill Condon's 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' last week (shown below) it seems like a suitable time to have us rolling our eyes at the new theatrical trailer. Unveiled by Yahoo! the new trailer sees Bella and Edward getting hitched and enjoying what appears to be a rampant wedding night bed-smashing, more of the usual vampire/lycan face-off sessions plus some Bella baby blues. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Dakota Fanning, Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Taylor Lautner, Nikki Reed, Billy Burke ('Drive Angry 3D') and Maggie Grace ('Lost', 'The Fog') all star. Check out the new trailer below....

Bill Condon's 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' will be hitting our screens this coming November. And whilst teenage girls everywhere get wet over the prospect of more Bella and Edward action, in this case hot and steamy bedroom action, a new romantic and puke-enducing poster has been revealed. Its not much to look at and probably wouldn't look out of place on a shelf full of Mills and Boon novels but anyhoo if anyone out there still cares about the weak-ass franchise then check it out below. Last weekend, some of the biggest and best bands from all over the world parked their fluid-stained buses in the fluid-stained bus capital of the world, San Francisco, for the Outside Lands Music Festival. Outside Lands is a 3-Day outdoor festival in San Fran’s beautiful Golden Gate Park, a park whose streams would soon run amber with the urine of drunk a-holes. Now my own experience with music festivals was not necessarily great. Back in 2001, while I was studying abroad in Budapest, I made the “adult” decision to travel to Nuremberg, Germany (“Home of the Trials!”) for MTV’s Rock-Im-Park festival, mainly because Radiohead was going to be playing, with a side of Dave Coulier’s ex-gf Alanis. My friends and I bought sleeping bags but decided against getting a tent, because it was June in Germany and I was Tim Pawlenty sure it would be warm enough! Meanwhile...

Smallville ends its ten-season run with the series finale in the USA this Friday so you might wonder what's next for star Tom Welling.
After a decade immersed in the DC Comics universe as the young Clark Kent, it would be natural to think the 34-year-old might want a breather from anything related to comic book adaptations.
But a report claims DC's rival Marvel Comics already has its eye on the actor.
According to Australian site What's Playing, the comic book titan is keen to snap up Welling for a future superhero adaptation.
Marvel has several comic-based film and TV projects in the pipeline and the site speculated that he might be up for the so-called sorcerer supreme Doctor Strange. Conan writers Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were hired last June to pen a screenplay on the mystic but putting Welling in the lead role would seem a bizarre piece of miscasting,...

TV’s Superman may be a Marvel guy soon, as Tom Welling looks to settle into his career post Smallville. He might be thinking of another comic book company. The last episode of Smallville airs Friday, May 13th. According to What’s Playing, Welling is being considered by Marvel for one of their future comic book adventures. After ten years as a superhero, you might think he’d be tired of playing one. At this time we have no idea which role Welling could be in contention for. Marvel has adaptations planned for Doctor Strange, Runaways, and Deathlok. Recently his name was mentioned in the running for the role of the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman, which eventually went to Chris Hemsworth.
Comic Book Resources says the information is wrong based on their source, “Welling isn’t up for Doctor Strange, and hasn’t been approached for any Marvel property yet.

I personally never grew tired of home invasion thrillers, and apparently neither has Hollywood. Production is currently underway on The Replicas, which sees music video director Jeremy Regimbal at the helm. Josh Close (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Diary of the Dead), James DArcy (An American Haunting), Selma Blair (Hellboy, The Fog) and Rachel Miner (Penny Dreadful, The Butterfly Effect 3, Tooth & Nail) star in the pic that follows a couple that heads with their family to a vacation cottage to grieve after the death of their youngest child. Not long after, they are visited by the Sakowskis, a couple with an unhelpful agenda. Close penned the screenplay.

Twilight's final chapter Breaking Dawn has added two new cast members.
Maggie Grace (pictured above; Lost, The Fog, Taken) is to play vampire Irina, a member of the Denali coven, according to Deadline.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly has learned that nine-year-old Mackenzie Foy is set to play Renesmee. Foy (pictured below) has appeared in an episode each of sci-fi drama FlashForward and comedy 'Til Death.
For those not familiar with Stephenie Meyer's books, Spoilers follow in how these two characters fit into the storyline.
Renesmee is the half-vampire, half-human daughter of Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).
Irina mistakenly believes the Cullens to be responsible for the death of her lover Laurent (in fact it was the werewolf shapeshifters who killed him, in New Moon) and, while still feeling bitter and angry, she spots Renesme.

Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is heading into production in Canada and Louisiana around November time. It’s been a bit quiet on the old Twilight front of late, but after the super-spectacular box office of Eclipse, it was only a matter of time before Twilight fever took its grip on the media world and the call of the twihard would be heard… or something like that.
Well then, folks, here’s some news. Actress Maggie Grace has signed up to the party to play Irina, a vengeful vampire of the Denali coven. For those who haven’t read the books, she’s a veggie vampire like the Cullens but isn’t too pleased with them – especially Edward and Bella, because they caused the death of Laurent in Eclipse.
Irina spots their sprog and tells the Volturi what she thinks is happening and then all hell breaks loose.

Grace will play the role of Irina in the final installments of the Stephenie Meyer novel, which director Bill Condon is directing in two separate films. The first of two pictures will be released by Summit Entertainment on November 18, 2011, followed by the finale on November 16, 2012. Melissa Rosenberg is writing both scripts.

Cult legend Kurt Russell, Sharon Stone and Oscar-winner Adrien Brody are set to star in Waco. The film will detail the David Koresh siege in Waco, Texas in 1993. The project is set to be directed by Rupert Wainwright, the director of Stigmata and the remake of The Fog.

Odd cast combo of the day alert: Kurt Russell, Adrien Brody and Sharon Stone have all signed on to star in Waco, which will cover one of the most infamous events in Us law enforcement history.Production Weekly has it that Rupert Wainwright – last seen directing The Fog remake – will handle the film, which will track the 1993 incident in Texas with the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms laying siege to the compound holding David Koresh and his personal cult, the Branch Davidians. After reports of child abuse and rape emerged from the isolated compound, federal agents took action, leading to a devastating fire within the structure that left 81 people dead and a wealth of controversies about how the authorities handled the situation.According to The Playlist, investigative journalist Lee Hibberd wrote the script and the filmmakers will tap the experience of documentarian Michael McNulty, who made Waco: The Rules Of Engagement about the topic.

Sam Jackson Not in Thor: This is only a bit of clearing up as I thought Samuel L. Jackson was reprising his role as Nick Fury in all of the Marvel based films surrounding the anticipated The Avengers film to be directed by Joss Whedon, but apparently that's not the case. Jackson was quoted in an interview saying, "I'm not in Thor. Supposed to do Captain America this summer in London." As far as why he's not in Thor, he adds, "I thought I was, they said I was in the trades and I was like, 'Ooh! I got a job!' I called my agent he said, 'Naw, you're not in it.' I was like, 'Well sh*t, they need to pay me if they're gonna put my name in it. Somethin'.'" Jackson will next be seen as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2 on May 7. [Latino Review]
