Image
Denis Arndt, the familiar character actor who appeared on L.A. Law, Picket Fences and other shows for David E. Kelley and earned a Tony nomination for his turn opposite Mary-Louise Parker in the Broadway two-hander Heisenberg, has died. He was 86.

Arndt died Tuesday at his longtime cabin home in Ashland, Oregon, his family announced.

Arndt also portrayed the newlywed husband of Mary Tyler Moore’s character on the 1988 CBS sitcom Annie McGuire — Adrien Brody played his son — and he was one of the cops ogling Sharon Stone’s Catherine Tramell in the iconic interrogation scene in Paul Verhoeven’s Basic Instinct (1992).

Arndt started out with Kelley on NBC’s L.A. Law as lawyer Jack Sollers, who arrives in season five (1990-91) to represent the naughty Rosalind Shays (Diana Muldaur) in her sexual discrimination case against McKenzie Brackman.

Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in September 2024
Image
It’s been an eventful summer for Disney, and not under ideal circumstances. After his wife’s death because of food allergies at a Disney park, a man struggled to pursue legal action against the company due to his Disney+ subscription. Then, “X-Men: 97” showrunner Beau DeMayo shared a series of posts elaborating on his termination, and his attorneys told IndieWire that he’s preparing to sue.

The headlines have people considering whether to keep subscribing this month — but if you’re a parent, there’s no real replacement. The kids can tune in to “Lego Pixar: Bricktoons,” “Chibi Tiny Tales,” “Disney Jr.’s Ariel,” and more, as well as new episodes of the K-pop series “Are You Sure?” There’s also a big Marvel premiere, but more on that below. Hulu gets a ton of new movies including the “Die Hard” franchise, “Freaky Friday” (which has a sequel in the...

Robert Pattinson Starred in One of the Funniest Westerns Ever Made
Image
Damsel (2018) is an underrated comedy western masterpiece that showcases Robert Pattinson's funniest performance yet. Comedy westerns have a rich history with classics like Blazing Saddles (1974) paving the way for films like Damsel. Robert Pattinson's previous experience in westerns, like The Rover (2014), set the stage for his role as discussed here.

Written and directed by the Zellner Bros David and Nathan, the former two years his sibling's senior Damsel (2018) should be commonly cited as one of the funniest westerns ever made. It stars Robert Pattinson alongside Mia Wasikowska, with this Wild West comedy marking their second of three collaborations. Other cast members include Robert Forster and Russell Mael, along with David Zellner, who frequently appears in movies that he personally directs.

Each of those names provides hilarious efforts against a beautiful Wild West backdrop, particularly Robert Pattinson. This may be his most underrated performance it's easily his funniest and as a whole,...

Tron: Ares Director Offers Sequel Update Amid WGA & SAG-AFTRA Strikes
Image
Director Joachim Rønning is uncertain about when filming for Tron: Ares will begin due to ongoing strikes and layoffs. The long-awaited sequel, Tron: Ares, has now been delayed further by the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the project, Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto has been confirmed to star as the protagonist, Ares, in the film.

Director Joachim Rønning has no "Clu" when filming will start on Tron: Ares. The director of Bandidas, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil took to social media to update the sequel to Disney’s Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010) as the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes saunter along. Sadly, he's not sure when fans can expect to return to the world of the games and Encom.

Hulu New Releases: July 2023
Image
If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries or early millennium classic cartoons then boy does Hulu’s list of new releases have some great news for you!

Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. While it’s not necessarily true crime per se, The Ashley Madison Affair about the notorious dating platform premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Betrayal: The Perfect Husband on July 11, which is based on a compelling podcast of the same name. The Jewel Thief arrives on July 13 to provide an account of Gerald Blanchard, one of history’s most creative criminals.

But where does the cartoon excitement comes in? Well, that’s because season 11 of Matt Groening’s beloved Futurama premieres on July 24. Fry, Leela, the Professor, and Bender will all return for a direct continuation of...

What’s Coming to Hulu in July 2023? ‘What We Do In The Shadows,' 'Futurama' Return; ‘The Ashley Madison Affair’ Docuseries
Image
Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.

Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:

Another highly anticipated return coming to Hulu in July is the latest season of long-running animated series “Futurama.” The show’s first four seasons aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, it was then picked up by Comedy Central for three seasons from 2008 to 2013. Now, nearly a decade later, the Mike Judge-created series will return for the first half of the 20-episode Season 8 on July 24 with the original voice cast.

Minor spoilers for Black Mirror season 6

The cast of Black Mirror season 6 is full of familiar faces, and here’s who plays who in each episode. Created by Charlie Brooker, the anthology TV series Black Mirror has become known for the themes its addresses, with a touch of sci-fi, horror, and realism. Black Mirror is mostly about technological advancements and how these affect society, though in some cases, it has left technology aside to, instead, explore social issues, fears, and how desensitized society has become to important topics.

Black Mirror season 6 is a combination of both, presenting stories that show how far technology can go and how it affects society, and also more fantasy/supernatural-oriented stories that focus more on how society...

Coco: Pixar Shares All-Latino Voice Cast For Their Upcoming Film!
Diversity is kind of a hot topic nowadays. As citizens of a melting pot of a culture, it’s nice to be represented in mainstream entertainment. And if we’re being honest, it’s not just about diversity, but authenticity. It always rings a bit false when you have a white person portraying a person of color. It’s especially easy to get away with this in animation, where you don’t even see the voice actors.

Studios have gotten away with this practice for years, but in today’s world, they’re making a conscious effort to create films that respect the culture it’s portraying, and part of that has to do with the voice cast. This newer approach is expanding to Coco, the latest film from Pixar inspired by Día de Muertos, a celebration of the dearly departed.

This is obviously a story that’s steeped in Mexican culture,...

'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' Review: More High Seas Hijinks From Johnny Depp
Orlando Bloom
Seeing a Pirates of the Caribbean movie these days is a lot like riding the amusement park attraction that inspired the franchise: it's a generally enjoyable time and maybe, just maybe there will be a surprise along the way. Mostly, though, it's the same as the last time you rode it.

Dead Men Tell No Tales -- not to be confused with the similarly titled Dead Man's Chest (aka Pirates 2) -- picks up a thread teased at the end of At World's End (Pirates 3): Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) is attempting to free his father, Will (Orlando Bloom), from an eternity cursed to the Flying Dutchman. Legend has it that the Trident of Poseidon has the power to do just that, so off Henry goes. There's nothing Disney loves more than daddy issues.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Baywatch’ Take On Memorial Day: Which Beach Will Win?
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Baywatch (1989)
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Baywatch” lead what could be the best Memorial Day weekend in three years. But as holidays go, Memorial Day isn’t what it used to be.

The schedule’s changed. More of the top summer releases go for early May, and given that many studio blockbusters must divide their loyalties between the international and domestic calendars, the last weekend of May has lost some of its appeal.

Holding the record for the biggest-ever opening on Memorial Day weekend is “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” in 2007. This the first “Pirates” in six years; is the audience still there? (We’ve seen the pessimistic take on that question with “Alien: Covenant,” which came five years after its last.)

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Review
Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is the four-quel you’d expect from the guys who brought you Bandidas. Yes, *that* Bandidas! Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg bulk up running times, homogenize visuals and whirl a typhoon of fan-servicing, all in the name of Disney swashbuckling. “Familiar” doesn’t begin to describe Sparrow’s latest quest, as there’s something so amiss this time around. Maybe it’s Javier Bardem inaudibly mumbling the film’s title right before a title card flashes (*groan*). Maybe it’s the numerous tits ‘n balls references within introductory minutes (Because Cannon Balls Are Like…). No matter why, it’s a sinking ship with only brief moments of smooth sailing – two hours worth, nonetheless.

Brenton Thwaites stars as the son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, young Henry Turner. He meets up with an intelligent girl who’s mistaken for a witch,...

Everly Review
This review was originally published during our coverage of Fantastic Fest 2014.

Despite filmmaker Joe Lynch’s intentions, his latest effort, Everly, is destined to be paired with Die Hard for a festive back-to-back TNT double bill, drawing comparisons that may or may not exist. The bigger problem here is America’s response to a female-centric action movie, so intrigued by a concept that’s criminally underused and will probably be offensively exploited by Expendabelles. But that’s why we have Joe Lynch.

He’s pushing boundaries without even knowing it, ushering in a genre movement where ass-kicking leading ladies won’t be met with questions like “Why did you choose to make your protagonist female?” I don’t know, why don’t people ask directors “Why did you choose to make your protagonist male?” whenever Jason Statham movies come out? Lynch created Everly because an idea developed into a tragic story supported by big guns,...

Review: Everly
Joe Lynch has directed a number of films over the past eight years, including Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Knights of Badassdom, and the “Zom-b-Movie” segment of 2011’s Chillerama anthology, but I’ve never felt like we’ve seen a film that was truly 100% his voice. That all changes, though, with Everly, his gut-punch love letter to the modern action film, a raucous and wickedly fun time that manages to be way more heartfelt and emotionally-charged than its over-the-top brutality and balls-out gunplay might otherwise suggest. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a truly badass female hero get her cinematic due, but everything about Lynch’s latest gets it just right.

In Everly, we meet the titular prostitute (Salma Hayek) on Christmas Eve right after she’s been subjected to a brutal gang-rape orchestrated by a Yakuza mob boss who isn’t thrilled with her recent betrayal of him and his organization.

Salma Hayek kills everyone in the badass trailer for Joe Lynch's Everly
No bones about it, I am in love with Salma Hayek. I freely admit it. There is something about her that just drives me nuts. Hell, I even watched that pile of crap Bandidas just because she was in it. Ever since Desperado and From Dusk Til Dawn, Salma has done it for me in anything she has appeared in. In recent years, she hasn't had many star vehicles worth writing home about, but now we have the first look at director Joe Lynch's action flick Everly. I have a feeling that the Knights...

Watch: Action Heavy Trailer for 'Everly' Starring Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek's career has been a weird one, ranging from Oscar-contending roles in Frida to the horrible Bandidas as well as serving as executive producer on "Ugly Betty", which is really the only highlight on her resume in the past ten years unless you count her supporting work in the Grown Ups movies. So, to see her going the action route is no big surprise as today we have the first trailer a hard-r actioner which received its R-rating for "strong bloody violence, torture, nudity, sexual images and language." The movie sounds a bit like The Raid in that Hayek plays a woman trapped in her apartment, who must fend off scores of assassins sent by her ruthless ex, a nefarious drug kingpin. Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2) directs and Togo Igawa (The Last Samurai) co-stars. Radius is handling the release stateside, though no official date has yet been set.

Pirates 5 to set sail in Australia
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales looks set to shoot in Australia in early 2015.

While the Walt Disney Studios has not announced the location, Australian talent agents say a casting call has gone out for two key roles and a mid-February shoot is planned.

Australia.s chances of landing the production, which has a reported budget of more than $200 million, were enhanced when the federal government agreed to give Disney the $21.6 million incentive which had been offered by the previous government as an inducement to shoot the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake in Oz.

That project was shelved after director David Fincher departed, later blaming "Disney's corporate culture" and differences over casting.

Disney asked the government to reassign the funds to Pirates 5 and to boost the total incentive to 30% of the budget.. If understands the studio wanted an extra $7 million, either from the feds or one of the state agencies.

Salma Hayek in Everly (2014)
Review: Salma Hayek's got to get primal to survive the action movie 'Everly'
Salma Hayek in Everly (2014)
Austin - "Everly" puts me in an uncomfortable position. Sure, nowhere near as uncomfortable as the circumstances faced by Everly (Salma Hayek) over the course of the film, a one-room action movie, but as a film critic, I find myself really wrestling with my reaction. On the one hand, I like the energy of the film, and I think Hayek is about as appealing a lead as she's been in a while as the film opens in media hell, with her as a sex slave who finds herself at a turning point, freedom in her sights, but with a whole wall of mayhem between her and escape. The film makes a lot out of its single location, and I'm a fan of films where you watch one space get more and more destroyed over the course of an evening. Director Joe Lynch directs the film like a hungry man chasing a ham sandwich,...

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales Eyes Early 2015 Shoot
Our national nightmare is over... another Pirates Of The Caribbean movie is on its way, and after countless delays, we could be setting sail for 2016 with the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow, star of one and a half good movies and also some other footage! Johnny Depp is likely returning for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales , but we haven't been certain when we were gonna see the scallywag. But producer Jerry Bruckheimer finally broke the silence. Jerry Bruckheimer has announced (via Slashfilm) that they're hoping to begin Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales early 2015. The clip comes from the Monte Carlo Television Festival, where no doubt Bruckheimer is representing several of his hit TV franchises. The film is slated to be directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (Bandidas), from a script by Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can). Of course, a lot...

Norway’s Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film Of The Year is finally sailing in on DVD and Blu-ray. From Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company, Kon-tiki is available to own now and will remind you of how Hollywood used to do movies. This is one you will want to add to your collection.

From the directing duo of Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Max Manus: Man of War, Bandidas), Kon-tiki is based on the amazing true adventure of Thor Heyderdahl (Pål Sverre Hagen), a Norwegian explorer in 1947 who embarks on the voyage of a lifetime to prove a point.

In 1947, the world is gripped with excitement as the young Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl (Pål Hagen) embarks on an astonishing expedition – a journey of 4,300 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean on the Kon-Tiki raft. Interview – Wamg Talks To Kon-tiki Directors Joachim Rønning And Espen Sandberg About Blu-ray Release And Pirates 5
Did you see Kon-tiki when it was in theaters earlier this year? It is an amazing adventure and the kind of film we avid movie goers haven’t seen in a long time.

Based on the amazing true adventure of Thor Heyderdahl (Pål Sverre Hagen), Kon-tiki is the tale of a Norwegian explorer in 1947 who embarks on the voyage of a lifetime to prove a point. When the scientific community rejects his theory that South Americans were the first to settle in the Polynesian Islands, Heyerdahl resolves to prove its validity—and save his reputation—by embarking on the voyage himself. Recruiting a group of five men who are just bold enough to tackle the seemingly impossible trip, he builds a simple raft to original pre-Columbian specifications and sets off on the epic 101 day-long journey across the treacherous ocean to meet his fate, while the world watches.

In case you...

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Hires Directors, Filming Begins in January
Earlier this months, it was revealed that Disney is in talks with three directors to helm the studio's fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. The directors include Fredrick Bond (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman), Joachim Ronning and Espect Sandberg (Kon-Tiki), and Rupert Sanders (Snow White and The Huntsman). At the time, the "Kon-Tiki" duo were the favorite to get the job. And now comes word that they were just officially hired and will direct from a script by Jeff Nathanson (Cach Me If You Can). Production is set to begin in January of 2014 and then hit theaters on July 15th, 2015. Johnny Depp is set to reprise his role. Ronning and Sandberg received a Best Foreign Film Oscar nomination for "Kon-Tiki." They also directed "Bandidas," back in 2006, which starred Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Gets Kon-Tiki Directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning
Espen Sandberg
Kon-Tiki filmmakers Espen Sandberg and Joachim R&#248nning are in negotiations to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 5. We reported earlier this month that the directors were among the front runners for the job, along with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman).

Johnny Depp is returning as Captain Jack Sparrow, although no other cast members have been confirmed yet. Both Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer signed off on the directing duo, with a deal to be finalized quickly, so that the filmmakers can get preparations under way for a January 2014 start of principal photography.

Jeff Nathanson (Men in Black 3, Tower Heist) wrote the screenplay, but no story details have been confirmed at this time.

Espen Sandberg and Joachim R&#248nning received an Oscar nomination earlier this year for their critically-acclaimed drama Kon-Tiki. They have also directed Max Manus and Bandidas,...

Disney closing in on Director with Short List for Pirates of the Caribbean 5
Earlier this year, Disney hired the BAFTA-nominated Jeff Nathanson to pen the script for the much-anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

Talk of a sequel has been circling since 2011’s highly successful Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which took more than a billion dollars at the global box office, and stands tall as the 11th highest-grossing film of all time.

Whilst we’ve not heard anything official on the director’s front, it looks like that might soon be changing. Deadline report that the studio are narrowing their short list for the next person to take the helm for the franchise, and have heard four names of those currently in the mix.

First up is Frederik Bond, who is thought to be a favourite of producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Bond has recently made his feature debut with the Shia Labeouf-starrer, The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, which premiered...

Salma Hayek + Penelope Cruz To Team Up In Unknown Project
While in Cancun promoting Grown Ups 2, Salma Hayek (Desperado, Frida) told Judao that she will once again work with Penelope Cruz (Volver, Vicky Christina Barcelona) on a new project.

Hayek and Cruz worked together once before for the western/comedy Bandidas (2006).

The movie made only $18 million worldwide and received mostly bad reviews.

Trailer for Bandidas (2006)

When asked whether the project was Bandidas 2 ,Hayek said:

I still can’t tell much, you know, but we’re working together in a new idea. There’s nothing to do with ‘Bandidas’, but it’s going to be cool.

I hope the two actresses do something more serious and collaborate in a well-written comedy or drama. Cruz won an Oscar for her part in Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008) and Hayek was nominated years ago for her lead role in Frida (2002).

Judao also reports that Hayek is working on an adaptation of a Belgian Comic Book.

Watch The New Kon-tiki Featurette
In January when the nominations were announced for the 85th Academy Awards, Norway’s Kon-tiki was recognized with a nod in the Best Foreign Language Film category and found itself in the company of Amour from Austria, War Witch from Canada, A Royal Affair from Denmark and No from Chile.

Go behind the scenes in this brand new featurette from The Weinstein Company. From directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, Kon-tiki screened in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled for an April 19th release.

In 1947, the world is gripped with excitement as the young Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl embarks on an astonishing expedition – a journey of 4,300 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean on the Kon-Tiki raft. From his days living in the Marquesas with his wife Liv, Thor suspected that the South Sea Islands had been settled by ancient South Americans from thousands of miles to the east.

Kon-Tiki Review
A nominee for Best Foreign Language Picture at this year’s Oscars, Norwegian import Kon-Tiki chronicles the journey of adventurer Thor Heyerdahl and his incredible journey some 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Polynesia on a balsa wood raft. Though comparisons will inevitably be drawn between this film and Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, a fellow Oscar nominee, they are very different beasts and are both films are deserving of attention.

If nothing else, Kon-Tiki (the name of the aforementioned vessel) adds to the impressive list of superb films from Scandinavia this past year. From Headhunters (one of my favourites of 2012) to the overlooked Snabba Cash (Easy Money), fare from this region has never been more accessible or memorable.

So now comes Kon-Tiki, the first Norwegian film to score both a nomination at the Golden Globe and Academy Award ceremonies, and it’s rather easy to see why.

Melbourne, Nov 16: Penelope Cruz says that she believes she has mellowed down with age and that she cannot tolerate alcohol like she once could.

The 'Bandidas' star confessed that she has left her wild child days behind and now has settled into married life and parenthood with Spanish actor Javier Bardem.

"About ten years ago I had a wild, confused phase - I just wanted to get lost in life and not think about the consequences," News.com.au quoted her as telling German magazine In.

"After two beers now I'm already tipsy. I guess, I'm what men would call a cheap date!" she added. (Ani)...

Casting Roundup: McGregor, Cruz and Yelchin Get the Gigs
All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...

Ewan McGregor is looking to play the bad guy again, following his sleazy turn earlier this year in "Haywire." Deadline reports that the "Trainspotting" star is set to star in "Son of a Gun," an Australia crime thriller that chronicles the complex relationship between a notorious criminal (McGregor) and his young protege. That's not all for McGregor — he'll also be joining Kate Hudson for the showbiz comedy, "Born to Be King," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Penelope Cruz is going to teach us about clothes ... and murder! The "Bandidas" beauty is in talks to star in "Gucci," a drama about the Italian family behind the legendary clothing brand in which she would play Patrizia Reggiani, who was jailed for 29 years for allegedly ordering the 1995 murder of her ex-husband and heir to the family empire, Maurizio Gucci.

Anton Yelchin got...

Taken 2 (review)
If there’s one important lesson we can all learn from Taken 2, it’s this: Albanian sex-slavers are people, too, okay? Their mothers love them, and if you kill them, their fathers/bosses will hunt you down and kill you in return. They’ve got certain skills, you see, and they’re not afraid to use them. And those certain skills appear to be a lack of peripheral vision, a tendency to keep one’s back turned to the direction danger is most likely to come in, and a refusal to heed one’s own guard dog when it is barking its doggy head off that “Liam Neeson is like right in the room, you idiots!” This is, I assume, director Olivier Megaton intending to be funny. It’s not funny. It could also potentially be Megaton (Colombiana) intending to be subtle. And it’s about what you might...

Career Watch: Salma Hayek - Does 'Savages' Signal a Comeback?
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek won't be giving up her sex symbol status any time soon, but it's been ten years since her Oscar nomination for 2002's "Frida." The 45-year old actress has stayed moderately busy since, with the likes of "Puss in Boots," "Grown Ups," "Bandidas," a recurring role on "30 Rock" and this year's "Americano" and "Savages," but a career reboot seems necessary if Hayek wants to return to the A-list (which looks very different now than it did in 2002). In theory, "Savages" could be the perfect starting point for a comeback, but her next projects -- including "Here Comes The Boom" with Kevin James and "Click" director Frank Coraci, and "Grown Ups 2" -- don't inspire much confidence. The Start: After soap-opera success in native Mexico, Hayek (of Lebanese and Mexican heritage) journeyed to Los Angeles in hopes of making it in the big leagues. After...

Zoe Saldana and Megan Fox Will Swindle Us
Apparently a movie starring Zoe Saldana and Megan Fox is a hot item around Hollywood. Go figure. Neither one has really shown any real ability to open a movie by their little lonesome, though I suppose Saldana can brag a bit about “Colombiana”. That’s apparently the notion Paramount is going with, as the studio has snapped up an “action-heist” spec script from writers Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson for Saldana and Fox to star in and produce. Apparently the ladies have been hot to work with one another for a while. No idea what the movie is about, but it’s called “Swindle”, so I’m guessing some type of buddy cop/heist film where the two women get to show off their hotness while swindling stupid men and such. Probably action-comedy would be my guess. This reminds me of “Bandidas”, which paired up Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek,...

Colmbiana proves Besson has a type … women with big guns
Fortunately, says John Patterson, vengeance is a lot more fun when a woman is seeking it

Luc Besson sure likes him some strong womanhood. The new revenger's action movie Colombiana, which he produced and co-wrote, stars Zoe Saldana and calls to mind a string of vengeful, tough, smart women in his back catalogue: La Femme Nikita, Natalie Portman in Leon, Joan of Arc in The Messenger, and the bankrobbers of Bandidas. I'm just guessing, but I think Luc Besson has a type. And her name is Lady Vengeance.

After watching Colombiana I'm inclined to ask: who can blame him? Like every Besson movie, Colombiana is ridiculous, inch-deep, critic-proof and just a ton of superkinetic fun. I began to think that maybe vengeance (in this case, on the drug lord who killed Lady's father) is a lot more fun and a lot less depressing when a woman is seeking it.

Think...
