Newport Beach TV Fest: ‘White Lotus’ Star Sam Rockwell Set for TV Supporting Performance of the Year Award, Live ‘Awards Chatter’ Podcast
Image
Sam Rockwell, the Oscar-winning actor who is currently in Emmy contention for his off-the-wall performance in the third installment of Mike White’s HBO/Max drama series The White Lotus, has been tapped for the TV supporting performance of the year award (actor) at the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest, the fest announced Wednesday.

The award will be presented to Rockwell immediately following a live recording of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast — moderated by yours truly and featuring a career-retrospective conversation — which will kick off at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, at Newport Beach’s Lido Theater.

“The Newport Beach TV Fest is proud to honor Sam Rockwell for his electrifying work in The White Lotus,” Gregg Schwenk, CEO and executive director of the fest, said in a statement. “Like all viewers, we were captivated by Sam’s surprise appearance in the show, as his ability to inhabit...

When Daniel Craig Replaced Robert Downey Jr. In This Big-Budget Film—& It Wasn’t A James Bond Movie
Image
In Which Movie Did Daniel Craig Replace Robert Downey Jr.? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )

Daniel Craig, well-known for playing the daredevil agent James Bond, had once replaced the Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr. as the lead in a big-budget film. And that film was not Casino Royale, the first film in which Daniel Craig’s tryst with 007 began, or any Bond movie. Read on to know which film that was.

The Film In Which Daniel Craig Replaced Robert Downey Jr.

Coming straight to the point, the name of that movie was the sci-fi action thriller Cowboys and Aliens, which came out in 2011. The dashing Knives Out actor bagged the role after Robert Downey Jr. dropped out of the film (as per a report by Deadline).

Cowboys And Aliens Plot

The movie was based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name, and directed by Jon Favreau. Set in a retro-futuristic setting in the 1870s,...

Jon Favreau Addresses Playing Daredevil's Foggy Nelson & Possible Multiverse Return
Image
The Mandalorian creator and Iron Man director Jon Favreau has addressed a possible multiverse return as Foggy Nelson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The versatile actor and filmmaker portrayed the character opposite Ben Affleck's Man Without Fear in 2003's Daredevil.

Favreau, who currently plays Happy Hogan in the MCU, discussed the prospect at this year's Star Wars Celebration with Cbr's Grae Drake. Asked if anyone at Marvel had talked to him about a multiverse return as Matt Murdock's closest confidant, Favreau responded, "That's right, I play a number [of Marvel characters]. Happy Hogan, Foggy. I was in with the other Daredevil [Charlie Cox] as Happy [in Spider-Man: No Way Home]. It's a lot to keep track of."

Though unlikely, Favreau reprising the role of Foggy cannot be completely ruled out and may hinge on Affleck's potential return as Daredevil in perhaps Avengers: Secret Wars. Jennifer Garner, who first appeared as Elektra Natchios in the 2003 Daredevil film,...

The Marvel Star Everyone Forgets Directed Young Sheldon’s Pilot Episode
Image
The NBC sitcom, Young Sheldon, quickly became a hit, offering a fresh look at the early life of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. But here’s a fun twist: while we’re all familiar with Sheldon’s world, there’s one detail that often slips through the cracks. Who directed the pilot episode?

It’s none other than Jon Favreau. Best known for launching the MCU with Iron Man, Favreau’s involvement in Young Sheldon is often overlooked. Yes, the same director responsible for creating some of the most iconic moments in pop culture also helped shape the origin story of the Big Bang Theory’s most fabulous character.

Emmy shakeup: Sam Rockwell must compete as supporting, not guest, actor for ‘The White Lotus’
Image
When Sam Rockwell popped up in last week's fifth episode of The White Lotus and delivered an instantly classic monologue, Emmy pundits assumed the actor would be a frontrunner to win the Best Drama Guest Actor category. But there's one problem with that assumption: the Emmys have quirky rules.

Because of a regulation enacted in 2015, and recertified in 2024, only performers who appear in fewer than 50 percent of a show's episodes are eligible to contend as a guest star. If someone appears in 50 percent or more, they must submit in supporting or lead. Gold Derby has confirmed that Rockwell appears in Episodes 5, 6, 7, and 8 of the eight-episode season, meaning he cannot be nominated as a guest star.

HBO has declined to comment.

Here is the 2024 version of the ruling:

Guest Performers are defined as appearing in less than 50% of all eligible series episodes. To ensure that a guest performer's role is significant to the episode being submitted,...

'The Mandalorian & Grogu' Is the Cheapest 'Star Wars' Film in Disney Era
Image
A new report about The Mandalorian & Grogu reveals its budget, and while it costs more than a lot of movies, it is certainly cheap by Disney Star Wars standards. The cost of movie tickets has certainly been on people's minds for years, but the price to make movies seemingly has gone up. 2023 saw three films join the ranks of the most expensive movies ever made. Now, in 2025, Netflix's The Electric State and Apple's F1 will be added to that list. While Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises around, it sounds like the next entry is being budgeted responsibly.

According to Collider, The Mandalorian & Grogu reportedly has a budget of $166.4 million, based on a report from the California Film Commission. The latest entry in the Star Wars franchise was the recipient of a bountiful tax credit from the state of California to the tune of $21.75 million.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for episode five of The White Lotus.

The White Lotus saved one of its biggest casting reveals for its sojourn to Bangkok.

During Sunday’s fifth episode, Oscar-winning star Sam Rockwell made an unforgettable appearance as Frank, the longtime friend of Rick (Walton Goggins), who reconnects with the troubled traveler as Rick seeks vengeance on the man Rick believes killed his father. Now sober, Frank shares with Rick his experiences in Thailand, including the fresh perspective he has gotten about his sexuality. The lengthy monologue already has several The White Lotus fans calling for Rockwell to earn his first Emmy Award as a guest actor in a drama series.

Roberto Orci, one of the co-writers of some of the biggest sci-fi franchises in the 21st century, has sadly passed away at 51 following a battle with kidney disease at his home in Los Angeles. Roberto Orci, a writer and producer known for his work on Star Trek, Transformers, and Hawaii Five-0, died at his home in Los Angeles on February 25 due to complications from kidney disease. He was 51.

Born in Mexico City, Orci moved to the United States as a child. His early career in television included writing and producing on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Alias. He formed a long-running creative partnership with Alex Kurtzman, leading to some of the most commercially successful action-adventure films of the 2000s.

Their work included Transformers (2007) and Star Trek (2009), both of which became box office hits. Orci once spoke about how the relationship between Kirk and Spock in Star Trek reflected his and Kurtzman’s dynamic. “We’re from different worlds,” he said in 2009. “Alex was born here, and I was born in Mexico City. Kirk and Spock are opposites from two worlds. That’s us in a nutshell.

Roberto Orci, known for his work on Star Trek and other major franchises, has passed away. He was 51 years old. Per Deadline, Orci died on Friday, Feb. 25, at his Los Angeles home. His death was attributed to kidney disease.

“He was a visionary storyteller with a boundless heart and a beautiful soul,” J.R. Roberto Orci, the writer and producer behind franchises like Star Trek, Hawaii Five-0 and Transformers, has died. He was 51.

Orci died Tuesday in his home in Los Angeles following a battle with kidney disease, his manager told The Hollywood Reporter.

Orci began his career as a writer on Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in the late 1990s.

For a time, Orci was among the hottest screenwriters in Hollywood. He and partner Alex Kurtzman had hands in multiple franchises, with the duo earning credit on J.J. 'Old-Time Storytelling': Harrison Ford On Why He Loves Westerns 58 Years After First Western Role
Image
Harrison Ford stars as Jacob Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel 1923, which follows the Dutton family as they face the struggles of the early 20th century. For the legendary actor, the series was also a welcome return to the Western genre.

At the 1923 Season 2 premiere event, Ford spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why he feels drawn to Westerns. "I love the viscerality of it, I love the physical nature of the storytelling, I love being in natural circumstances," the actor divulged. "A kind of old-fashioned movie-making mostly, no CGI or very little CGI - a little something to sweeten the location. But it’s really essential, old-time storytelling and I love working with this kind of material."

Harrison Ford on ‘1923’ and His Love of Westerns for the “Old-Fashioned Movie-Making” With No CGI
Image
With the second season of Taylor Sheridan’s 1923, Harrison Ford returns to a genre that he’s always loved: the Western.

The Indiana Jones superstar’s résumé in that area includes 2011’s Cowboys & Aliens, 1979’s The Frisco Kid and 1968’s Journey to Shiloh, along with the first season of the Yellowstone-universe series, in which he plays patriarch Jacob Dutton. The show follows an earlier generation of the Dutton family as they face the rise of Western expansion, Prohibition and the Great Depression.

“I love the viscerality of it, I love the physical nature of the storytelling, I love being in natural circumstances,” Ford said of Westerns at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday, telling The Hollywood Reporter it’s “a kind of old-fashioned movie-making mostly, no CGI or very little CGI — a little something to sweeten the location. Walton Goggins Technically Won An Oscar For A Project You've Probably Never Seen
Image
Since making his acting debut in a 1989 episode of the NBC cop drama "In the Heat of the Night," Walton Goggins has been a most welcome presence on screens big and small. He first popped as police detective Shane Vendrell in the electrifying FX series "The Shield," and won our hearts as the scarily charming criminal Boyd Crowder over six brilliant seasons of FX's "Justified." We also love him as Baby Billy Freeman on "The Righteous Gemstones," and were blown away by his portrayal of The Ghoul on "Fallout." Goggins has been in some bad movies over the years (e.g. "American Ultra" and "Cowboys & Aliens"), but he certainly wasn't bad in them. The man seems wholly incapable of giving a bum performance.

Given that Goggins has become a favorite of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino since appearing in "Django Unchained," is it too much to hope that, whenever the director...

The Sci-Fi Flop Harrison Ford Didn't Understand (But Starred In Anyway)
Image
Actor Harrison Ford has been pretty picky about his roles over the years, carefully choosing roles that suit his cocky charm, but he hasn't always made perfect choices. While the actor has dozens of truly great movies under his belt, he also has a few stinkers, like historical submarine thriller "K-19: The Widowmaker" and utopia-building drama "The Mosquito Coast," though Ford has rather thoroughly defended both. There's one box office bomb that he hasn't been as effusive about, however, in large part because he was admittedly never on the film's wavelength.

The 2011 sci-fi action western "Cowboys & Aliens" had all of the ingredients for major blockbuster box office success. Based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's 2006 Platinum Studios graphic novel of the same name, "Cowboys & Aliens" was directed by Jon Favreau, fresh off the success of the first two "Iron Man" films. It starred Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde,...

Harrison Ford's Sci-Fi Movies Bombed When They Weren't 'Star Wars' & 'Blade Runner'
Image
To most people, Harrison Ford is either Indiana Jones or Han Solo. Sci-fi fans will also know him as Rick Deckard from Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic Blade Runner. However, beyond the galaxy far, far away of Star Wars and Blade Runner’s dystopian future, Ford also appeared in two other science fiction features — but they didn’t exactly become instant classics.

2013’s Ender’s Game was directed and adapted by Gavin Hood from the 1985 novel by Orson Scott Card. While the original book was good enough that it earned Card both the Nebula and Hugo awards for best novel, the movie sucked much of the life and intrigue out of the story. Just two years earlier, Ford's 2011 sci-fi epic Cowboys & Aliens was also an adaptation — this time, of the 2006 graphic novel. Like with Ender’s Game, the film felt like a pale imitation of the source material.

In both films, Ford...

The Massive Sci-Fi Flop That Nearly Starred A Young Glen Powell
Image
Glen Powell has mastered the art of embodying the charming leading man. 2023's "Anyone But You" — a rom-com loosely based on William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" — was a surprise mega-hit that helped fast-track Powell and his co-star Sidney Sweeney's careers. Since then, Powell has co-written and starred in Richard Linklater's "Hit Man," where the actor showcased his magnetic star power in impressively entertaining vignettes. The more recent "Twisters," a sequel to the '90s blockbuster "Twister," also saw Powell playing the charismatic lead, in this case the meteorologist and storm chaser Tyler Owens (who's cheekily dubbed the Tornado Wrangler).

Even when Powell isn't donning the leading man suit, he is unforgettable, like in "Top Gun: Maverick," in which he played the skilled but cocky Hangman, a rival to Miles Teller's Rooster. A quick look at the actor's filmography makes it clear that his superstardom is hard-earned.

Olivia Wilde Talks Choosing Art Over Audience Approval: “I Don’t Make Movies So People Love Them”
Image
Hollywood star Olivia Wilde warns social media and the embrace of fame pose an existential threat to filmmaking as a storytelling art.

“Directors have to decide at a certain point do you want to be a celebrity or an artist. Because of social media, it’s becoming even more combined to something that is quite dangerous for the art form.,” Wilde said while taking part in an informal conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival on Saturday.

“When you conflate filmmaking or acting with large scale acceptance, you immediately cut off every opportunity to do any risky work. So it was important to me to never become overly focused on being accepted or loved,” she added.

To get away from the Hollywood bubble, the actor-turned-director told the Red Sea Film event she remains inspired by film from far-flung countries not dominated by social media and clichés. “I’m so interested...

'My Arrogance Was Unbelievable': Daniel Craig Recalls Rejecting First Offer to Play James Bond
Image
Daniel Craig dismissed mounting rumors he was being considered to play James Bond. When the offer finally came, he feared what that could mean for his career and declined the part.

Daniel Craig revealed he didn't audition to play Agent 007; he was offered the role outright. Per THR, Craig said he was oblivious he was even shortlisted for the part, even when Steven Spielberg played the Bond theme while filming Craig's last scene for 2005's Munich. He said, "Eric [Bana] and I had to run with guns down the side of this wall, and [Spielberg] said, 'Action,' and then suddenly it was over these big speakers: 'Dun, dun, dun, dun' [the Bond theme music]. So I mean, it was obviously in the air. But seriously, I was like, 'It can't be. It's very nice. But me and 200 other people? Come on.'"

The Mandalorian and Grogu gets a stylish new logo

Ahead of its release in 2026, a new logo for The Mandalorian & Grogu has found its way online, and it looks just as stylish as you would expect.

As reported by The Direct, Twitter user @cinematoday uploaded a picture of the Star Wars film’s new logo from the Disney Company Asia Showcase in Singapore, and you can view it for yourself in the embedded tweet below.

The logo looks similar to the one that was unveiled at the D23 Expo earlier this year, but with a purple and gold color scheme and with Grogu and Din Djarin standing in different positions. Overall, the new logo does not look too different from the earlier one, but fans will still be thankful to catch a glimpse of it. Ghosts Of Red Ridge – Review
Image
A scene from Ghosts Of Red Ridge. Courtesy of WellGo USA Entertainment

Between movies and series episodes, I’ve probably seen a few thousand westerns. Some have crossed over with sci-fi and the supernatural, like Cowboys & Aliens, Jonah Hex or a number of totally forgettable flicks pitting cowpokes against vampires, zombies or other things that go bump in the night. This low-budget affair, The Ghosts Of Red Ridge, breaks a bit of new ground… more uniquely, perhaps, than laudably.

Red Ridge is a dusty, nowhere little town of dashed hopes. It was founded on the promise of a gold rush that never materialized, leaving a handful of bored residents with nowhere better to go. Even the local outlaw gang that harasses the folks can’t rustle up enough loot to make a decent living. The sheriff (Owen Williams) and his deputy (Trent Culkin – apparently no relation to the other...

Why The Two Most Expensive Westerns Ever Made Were Both Box Office Bombs
Image
The two most expensive Western movies ever made were also massive box office flops, and there's a fairly simple reason why. Low budgets are almost baked into the Western genre, all that a good Western needs is a few talented actors, natural scenery, intense gunfights, and a well-written story. Some of the best Western movies ever made were made on a shoestring budget. An entire subset of the genre - Spaghetti Westerns - was known for being extraordinarily cheap. Not all Westerns, however, have managed to keep costs down, and two of them got so expensive they were basically destined to flop.

Westerns are no strangers to failure at the box office, particularly after Westerns became unpopular after the 1970s. There's a long list of great Westerns that bombed at the box office, and a lot of Western flops have been a product of the genre's constantly changing popularity. The...

Daniel Craig Says He Handled James Bond Fame Like a "F*cking Disaster"
Image
Daniel Craig seems to loathe some aspects of his time playing James Bond. The English actor is famously tired of questions about the next actor to play the character, or if there will ever be a "gay James Bond." Craig also recently reflected on his tenure as Britain's most famous fictional spy, and how he dealt with the immediate fame that came his way following his debut in Casino Royale in 2006.

Speaking to The New Yorker, Craig described his handling of his James Bond fame as a "f*cking disaster." When asked how he handled the sudden rise in stardom, the actor joked, "I dived into a really big, deep, dark hole. Went to Mexico City, did a lot of drugs. If only." Craig's true coping method was far less exciting (or illegal), as "I locked myself away and didn’t come out of my house and I felt paranoid.

The mash-up of science fiction and Western has proven to be a complicated formula to nail down; comparing Westworld to Wild Wild West shows the highs and lows the genre is capable of. Yet, even a film like Wild Wild West can find appreciation with time and a dedicated cult following. While not as panned as the Will Smith sci-fi/Western, Jon Favreau's 2011 film Cowboys & Aliens also bombed at the box office and was met with mostly negative reviews from critics and fans.

13 years removed from the release of Cowboys & Aliens can give audiences time to reflect and find a new appreciation for a film that bombed previously. At the same time, some films are meant to live on as a disappointment. Where does the Daniel Craig sci-fi Western land?...

5 MCU Icons Made a 44% Rotten Comic Book Movie 3 Years After Iron Man (& It's Coming to Prime Video)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe amassed an impressive ensemble of actors with 34 films and 13 shows so far released. Fans have since scoured these actors' careers to see if they've crossed paths with their MCU co-stars in previous films.

Prime Video adds Cowboys & Aliens to its streaming library this November. The 2011 sci-fi Western was critically panned upon release, but Marvel fans have a good reason to revisit the film for its MCU links. Directed by Jon Favreau, Cowboys & Aliens' stacked ensemble includes four actors who were also cast as MCU villains: Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer (Iron Man 2), Walton Goggins' Sonny Burch (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Wyatt Russell's John Walker / U.S. Agent, and Harrison Ford's Thaddeus Ross / Red Hulk (Captain America: Brave New World). Marvel fans can rewatch Cowboys & Aliens as these actors' crossover appearances outside their MCU films.

“The best guy doesn’t necessarily get the job”: Glen Powell is a Walking Green Flag for One Habit Even His Agent Allegedly Told Him to Drop if He Wants to Survive in Hollywood
Image
Glen Powell is aptly one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood today. While his debut came way back in Spy Kids in 2003, the 35-year-old has seen multiple successful roles come his way in the last few years. Now looking forward to the release of Twisters, Powell has appeared in movies such as Anyone But You and Top Gun: Maverick, and generally finds himself in high demand.

However, that did not seem true to the actor when during his years of struggle. Powell went to his fair share of failed auditions but has never been the kind of person who would take things negatively. The actor has been utterly professional right from the start, and spent years getting rejected for a plethora of major roles.

‘Deadpool’ Creator Rob Liefeld Has More ‘Youngblood’ In Store
Image
Comic Book creator Rob Liefeld is returning to Youngblood with Image Comics. The plan is to create new Youngblood media and merchandise, kicking off with a brand-new title written and illustrated by Liefeld, set to launch from Image Comics next year.

Liefeld will reteam with Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, who first launched Image Comics in April 1992.

Rosenberg is CEO of Platinum Studios Inc., which manages Youngblood for the property’s owner, Rip Media Inc.

Youngblood followed Liefeld’s break-out success at Marvel, where he created and established Deadpool, Cable, and X-Force as top-selling characters. Youngblood became the first independent non-Marvel, non-dc Comic title to chart at #1 and sell over 1M copies. The original Youngblood miniseries sold over 25M copies worldwide, and its publication history spans over 100 issues with featured contributions throughout its run from comic talents such as Robert Kirkman Alan Moore, and Mark Millar.

Says Liefeld, “It’s so great that I can run into the comfort of characters that I created, that launched a movement. They carry such history. I love Youngblood so much. These characters are my absolute passion.”

Rosenberg adds, “Rob and I are a fantastic team, and I’m as excited now for Youngblood’s relaunch as I was in 1992 for its initial launch. The team’s awesome characters have not only been in their own Youngblood comics, but also appeared in more than 100 million comic publications worldwide, including crossovers with Marvel and other Image comics. I’m excited to bring them to audiences old and new with their original creator, Rob Liefeld.”

“As our company’s very first comic, Youngblood set the course not just for Image Comics, but for creator-owned comics, so we couldn’t be more thrilled that Rob is returning to his signature creation,” said Image Comics Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Eric Stephenson. “Rob’s vision for these characters and this concept is what originally attracted me to Image Comics way back in the 1990s, so it’s especially exciting that the series that started it all is finally coming home!”

Liefeld and Rosenberg promise more details in the weeks ahead, but initial plans include a Youngblood Vault Edition representing high resolution scans of the original art from the first Youngblood series in a deluxe oversized hardcover, as well as a Facsimile Edition of Youngblood #1 to mark the title’s 33rd anniversary in April 2025, both to be published by Image Comics.

Platinum Studios, Inc. is a comic book-based entertainment company. Productions include the Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig movie Cowboys & Aliens.

One Of The Most Expensive Westerns Ever Has A 31% Rotten Tomatoes Score And Was A Box Office Flop
Image
Despite the popularity of the genre of Western, not all its movies have succeeded, but one, in particular, stands out for being one of the most expensive Westerns ever and a huge critical and commercial failure. The Western genre is home to many classics, both in film and TV. On the big screen, the Western genre began in the 1890s with short single-reel silents, with the earliest known Western narrative movie being Kidnapping by Indians, in 1899. Since then, the Western genre has evolved a lot, even mixing with other genres, and it continues to be quite popular.

The Western genre has seen various classics, such as The Great Train Robbery, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, True Grit, and Dances with Wolves. However, like any other genre, the branch of Western has also been witness to some big failures, either due to their stories, performances, behind-the-scenes issues, or other controversies.

Harrison Ford's Most Infamous Rejected Role Would've Totally Transformed A $6 Billion Franchise
Image
Harrison Ford turned down the role of Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, which ended up going to Sam Neill. The ensemble cast of Jurassic Park allowed the film's concept and dinosaurs to shine without being dominated by major blockbuster stars. Ford rejecting the role of Alan Grant allowed the Jurassic Park series to grow into a $6 billion franchise without being reliant on his continued presence.

If Harrison Ford had not turned down a major movie role, cinema may have been changed forever. The iconic actor has appeared in more than four dozen big screen roles over the course of his career. Harrison Ford movies cover a wide variety of genres, ranging from more straightforward dramas and comedies such as American Graffiti, Working Girl, The Fugitive, and Witness (for which he was nominated for an Oscar) to imaginative genre exercises including Blade Runner and Cowboys & Aliens.

However, he is...

After 21 Movies, I'm Still Waiting For Harrison Ford To Finish His Unrealized Career Shift
Image
Harrison Ford shines as a villain in What Lies Beneath, showing his potential beyond heroic roles. Despite What Lies Beneath's mixed reviews, Ford's performance as the antagonist was chilling and memorable. Ford has not played a former villain since What Lies Beneath in 2000.

Over the course of his acting career, Harrison Ford has starred in numerous critically acclaimed movies and played many beloved characters, but there is one thing that has been sadly missing from his catalog. Ford's breakthrough in Hollywood came when he starred as Bob Falfa in George Lucas' American Graffiti. Although the 1973 comedy-drama certainly isn't what Ford is most known for, it helped build his relationship with Lucas. Consequently, American Grafitti was a key factor in Ford securing the role of Han Solo in Star Wars in 1977, which was when the actor truly rose to prominence.

Harrison Ford has recently shifted from the big screen...

With stellar performances, Clear and Present Danger and The Fugitive stand out as searing thrillers with intense action.

Harrison Ford is a very special kind of Hollywood actor with incredible longevity. While he has been acting since the mid-1960s, it was his breakthrough role as Han Solo in Star Wars (1977) that launched Ford to international stardom. Since this point, Ford has had a spectacular career in the industry, finding particular success in his numerous starring roles in action movies. In February 2025, Ford will star in yet another action movie, as President Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross in the McU's Captain America: Brave New World.

New Mexico Denies Film Incentive Application on Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ Movie After Fatal Shooting
Image
Producers of the Western movie Rust may have to forgo a robust economic incentive as they try to sell the film to distributors and fulfill financial obligations to the immediate family of a cinematographer who was fatally shot by Alec Baldwin during rehearsal in 2021.

New Mexico tax authorities denied an application this spring by Rust Movie Productions for incentives worth as much as $1.6 million, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press. A late July deadline for producers to appeal the decision is approaching.

Meanwhile, Baldwin is scheduled to go on trial starting next week on an involuntary manslaughter charge in Halyna Hutchins’ death. The lead actor and co-producer of Rust was pointing a gun at Hutchins when it went off, killing her and wounding director Joel Souza.

Melina Spadone, an attorney representing the production company, said the film production tax incentive was going to be used to finance a...

Input From Steven Spielberg Completely Changed Cowboys & Aliens' Main Antagonist
Image
In 1997, Platinum Studios co-founder and chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg came up with a unique genre-mash concept. What if classic Western tropes were infused with a gritty alien invasion storyline?

This idea birthed the graphic novel "Cowboys & Aliens," where gunslingers Zeke Jackson and Verity Jones witness the crash-landing of an alien spaceship during a caravan ambush. The aliens that disembark the ship are not the friendly, benevolent type -- this is a race bent on invading and conquering Earth by destroying everything they set their sights on. Now, it is up to the cowboys to work together with the local natives to defeat the aliens at all costs, even if it means adapting to their superior, futuristic weapons to nudge the odds in their favor.

Although the one-sheet for Rosenberg's graphic novel was always geared toward a big-budget film adaptation, it wasn't until 2011 that the Jon Favreau-helmed "Cowboys & Aliens" was released,...

“Yeah, this is not going well”: Glen Powell’s Biggest Regret Wasn’t Losing Captain America or Han Solo, it Was Another Role That Went to Clint Eastwood’s Son

Being an actor means losing out on many, many roles, especially when you are just starting out. Glen Powell knows this agonizing truth all too well. The actor was initially known for his role in Scream Queens (2015-2016), where he played Chad Radwell. However, he gained worldwide fame and recognition only after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). He then went on to star in his own rom-com, Anyone but You (2023) opposite the gorgeous Sydney Sweeney.

Top Gun's Glen Powell Reveals He "Blew" His Han Solo Audition

Glen Powell said that he missed out on the role of Han Solo in "Solo: A Star Wars Story" due to a poor final audition. Powell could have used his trademark charisma and experience from similarly morally ambiguous roles to be a great Han Solo. Although Powell could have been a fitting Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich gave a great performance in "Solo."

Glen Powell recently revealed that he tried out for the part of Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but that he "blew" the audition. Powell has starred in several high-profile movies recently, such as Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, but his career hasn't only been successes. Powell almost starred in the origin story of Han Solo, one of the most beloved and strongest non-Force users in Star Wars. He ultimately missed out on the role, though, and his chance to star in a Star Wars movie,...

'I Blew That Final Audition': Glen Powell Recalls Losing Major Star Wars Role
Image
Actor Glen Powell has been landing many major roles, but he can still recall the struggles he's had with missing out on major parts he'd auditioned for in the past. One was for a huge role as a fan favorite character in the Star Wars franchise.

In an interview with GQ, Powell commented on some of the roles he's lost. One was a big role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he auditioned for Captain America, the role that ultimately went to Chris Evans. Powell said he also studied Ben Foster's work to audition for a "bad cowboy" type in Cowboys & Aliens, and as luck would have it, Foster auditioned for the very same role. Both actors were passed over for that particular role, which went to The Batman star Paul Dano. Another one that stung, according to Powell, was when Scott Eastwood landed the role he wanted in The Longest Ride.
