David S. Goyer recently told ScreenRant that he is more than ready to answer the call should Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios need him to write Mahershala Ali’s long-delayed “Blade” movie. Goyer is no stranger to the comic book vampire hunter, having written all three movies in Wesley Snipes’ original “Blade” trilogy. He even stepped in to direct 2004’s “Blade: Trinity.”
“I would. I’ve always loved the character and I love him,” Goyer said when asked if he would write Marvel’s “Blade” reboot for the MCU. “I’ve been sitting on the sidelines wondering, ‘What in the world is going on? Why is it taking so long?’ Because I’m a huge Marvel fan myself, and I’ve just been totally puzzled.”
Marvel originally announced its “Blade” movie with Ali in July 2019, but development has been rocky as several writers and directors have come and gone over the years.

The Apple TV+ series The Studio is known for featuring big-name filmmakers playing themselves. So far, the show has seen cameos from directors like Martin Scorsese (Flowers of the Killer Moon), Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), Olivia Wilde (Don’t Worry Darling), Parker Finn (Smile), and Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors).
They all interact with Matt Remick (played by Seth Rogen), the new head of the fictional Continental Studios.
However, one of the latest episodes surprised fans with a cameo from none other than Zack Snyder. Unlike the other filmmakers, Snyder appears outside the studio setting. In episode 8, titled “The Golden Globes,” he shows up during a star-filled segment. The episode also features Adam Scott (Severance), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Jean Smart (Hacks), Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing), Ramy Youssef (#1 Happy Family USA), and Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos.

No matter how much audiences wish they could binge the latest seasons of their favorite Max series all in one go, HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys says the streamer will continue its commitment to the weekly release strategy.
“It works for us,” he said Wednesday during a Milken Institute Global Conference panel on the future of the entertainment industry.
Netflix is largely responsibly for popularizing the strategy of dropping all episodes of a new season at once, and many of the major streamers have followed suit, at least for some projects. But Max remains an outlier. In almost all cases, the streamer releases new episodes weekly — a decision Bloys says is driven by both financial sensibilities and the desire to lengthen the shelf life of a series.
“Part of the reason we do it is we don’t have the ability to have a new series every week.

Looking over Jean Smart’s oeuvre since her television debut in the 1979 TV movie “Before and After,” one thing is instantly noticeable — she has not stopped working. But over the last decade or so, momentum has picked up even more rapidly. It’s almost like producers and directors are shouting from the rooftops, “Get me Jean Smart!”
On May 7, the multi-award-winning “Hacks” actress will be presented with the second annual Mary Tyler Moore Visionary Award at the Variety FYC TV Fest for her groundbreaking achievements in storytelling and mirroring Moore’s impact on the entertainment industry. Although Smart jokes that the first thing she thought of when she heard of the honor was, “My boyfriend has always been madly in love with her,” her immediate reaction after that was, “My gosh!”

Warning: This article contains spoilers for "The Last of Us" season 2 and the video game "The Last of Us: Part II."
Both seasons of "The Last of Us" have been caught between a rock and a hard place. The show is forced to balance the desires of fans who merely wanted a direct 1:1 recreation of every single cutscene from the acclaimed video game ... versus the rest of us who actually wanted a proper adaptation of the story, changes and all. As I laid out in my review of season 2 for /Film, the series remains at its best when it remembers to follow that latter approach. For my money, showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin make this entire venture worthwhile when they're making bold choices such as inventing entire characters out of nowhere, expanding certain storylines beyond the scope of the source material, and especially taking gambles on antagonists like...

One of the most recognizable and beloved villains in the history of entertainment, the Joker has dominated the criminal underworld of DC Comics since he first appeared during the industry's Golden Age. Whether he's portrayed cartoonishly, as a maniacal mastermind of malice and mischief, or as a disturbingly plausible psychological terrorist, his appearances in "Batman" stories are consistently memorable.
What makes him so distinct is his peculiar way of carrying out his creatively heinous crimes, always with a flair for the dramatic, a smile, and a grim joke. We've gone through his history in comics, film, and television to find the most horrible things various versions of the clown prince have ever done. While we'll be avoiding some severe tonal outliers, our top 15 choices showcase the Joker at his absolute best - which is to say, his very, very worst.

In a rare feat for a streamer as beloved for its onslaught of acquisitions as its original productions, the best new shows on Netflix’s May release calendar are all exclusive to the service. While I balk at calling Conan O’Brien’s Mark Twain Prize ceremony a full-on Netflix original, the most powerful streaming service in the world was smart enough to snag the rights — and schedule the premiere during yet another period of peak appreciation for our favorite late-night Irishman — so they deserve ample credit.

The first trailer for Duster, the new series from J.J. Abrams, has been officially released. The series stars Josh Holloway, who is best known for his role as Sawyer in Lost, alongside Camille Guaty and Sydney Elisabeth. Guaty is famous for her role as Maricruz in Prison Break, and Elisabeth previously appeared on The Last O.G. The series was written and created for television by J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan. Duster is set in the dusty 1970s Southwest, and it follows a gutsy getaway driver for a budding crime family on dangerous driving jobs.

Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), a.k.a Black Widow, is bored. When Thunderbolts* begins, we meet her as she’s going through the motions of saving the world, but without the fire and passion that defined her quest to avenge her sister Natasha Romanoff’s death. And what with Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe feeling like it’s at a standstill, given that there’s seemingly no endgame (pun intended) to all of its superheroics, it’s easy to sympathize. Indeed, if you’re a hardcore Marvel fan, you’re probably also in a similar funk.
For Yelena, at least, her solution to her troubles is to call it a career, which her boss, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus), is happy to allow her to do. But only after sending her on one last mission into an underground facility to assassinate Ava Starr (Hannah-John Kamen), a.

Greg Berlanti is getting back into the writers room.
The mega-producer has three projects, at three different streamers, in various stages of development — including a series order for Stillwater, based on the horror comic of the same name, at Amazon’s Prime Video. Berlanti is also developing a high school mystery series at Hulu and a family drama at Max.
All three projects come from Warner Bros. TV, where Berlanti has a rich overall deal and has been his studio home for most of his career.
Stillwater and the Hulu project, Foster Dade, will also mark Berlanti’s first teleplay credits in several years. While the prolific producer has a “developed by” or creator credit on many of the shows his eponymous company has produced — including most of The CW’s Arrow-verse series — he hasn’t had a writing credit since the early days of You, which is now wrapping its run on Netflx.

This post contains spoilers for "For All Mankind."
After astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped foot on the Moon as a part of the Apollo 11 mission, a stainless steel commemorative plaque was left on the lunar surface. The inscription on the plaque reads: "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon July 1969, A.D. We came in peace for all mankind." These permanent plaques, which became a staple in subsequent lunar missions (up until Apollo 17), are meant to be expressions of peace and goodwill on behalf of humanity as a whole. But what would happen if history was to be altered, leading to a global space war that never ended? This is the essential question put forward by the Apple TV+ show "For All Mankind," which reimagines the moon landing from an alternate history perspective (one that is explored in vivid detail).

We’re getting the first look at footage from Sirens, Netflix’s upcoming dark comedy starring Meghann Fahy, Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock.
Set to Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” the trailer finds Meghann Fahy’s Devon determined to retrieve her sister from what she sees as a “creepy relationship” between Alcock’s Simone and her socialite boss Michaela “Kiki” Kell, played by Moore. Devon appears at Kiki’s mansion after learning their father, played by Bill Camp, has dementia and is disturbed that Simone could only be bothered to send a fruit basket.
Created by Emmy-nominated writer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler (Maid) and executive produced by LuckyChap, the five-episode limited series is an adaptation of Metzler’s play Elemeno Pea. Per the logline, “Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’re coming up on the six year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Now, we don’t know if we’re going to get a Blade reboot at all – but we have received confirmation that, at some point in the development process, the movie was going to be set in the 1920s and the plan was for recording artist Flying Lotus, who recently made his feature directorial debut with the sci-fi horror film Ash, to provide some music for it.

Zack Snyder is best known for his work in the superhero genre, having helmed several fan-favorite DC adaptations, like Watchmen, Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder's Justice League. What some of his fans might not know is that he also directed an underrated animated fantasy film, and it's heading back to Max next month.
Beginning May 1, Snyder fans can stream Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole on Max. Based on the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series by Kathryn Lasky, the 2010 animated fantasy adventure film focuses on barn owl Soren, who is kidnapped and taken to St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls led by Metal Beak and Nyra, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He befriends a fellow owl named Gylfie, and together they escape the facility to find the Island of Ga'Hoole, teaming with newfound friends to fight against Metal Beak and Nyra's evil army.

The folks at Amazon have released a brand new trailer for the upcoming action/comedy "Heads of State." This is a two-hander that reunites Idris Elba and John Cena, who previously starred in "The Suicide Squad" together. This time, instead of playing villains turned heroes, they're playing government officials at the highest levels. Elba is the U.K. Prime Minister, and Cena is the U.S. President — and they don't like each other. Let the comedy ensue.
The new film, which is going straight to Prime Video in July, was directed by Ilya Naishuller, best known for his work on 2021's "Nobody" starring Bob Odenkirk. So this seems to be right in his wheelhouse. Much of the trailer focuses on the dynamic between Elba and Cena, which is very contentious, not unlike Peacemaker and Bloodsport in "The Suicide Squad." It doesn't look particularly original, but it certainly looks like the...

The Star Wars franchise has been on an up-and-down ride since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. 2015's The Force Awakens was a huge success liked by just about everyone, but follow-up films The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker were far more divisive. Rogue One was a hit movie that led to a hit TV series in Andor, possibly the best thing to come out of the franchise in years. Solo was a disappointing movie that inspired a Lando Calrissian spinoff series that never happened, one of many Star Wars projects that were announced but fizzled out for one reason or another. The Mandalorian is a hit TV show, The Acolyte got canceled after one season. We still don't know if Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will be back for a second season. It's a bit of a madhouse.
The second and final season of Star Wars: Andor premieres tonight on Disney+.

Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse, along with his son Nick, are working on a new Star Wars series for Disney/Lucasfilm, it’s been announced.
After a lengthy wait, Andor season 2 has begun streaming in certain territories (the UK gets it on the 23rd April). Meanwhile, Lucasfilm appears to be planning other small screen adventures in the Star Wars franchise.
Several outlets – including Variety – are reporting that Carlton Cuse, perhaps best known as the showrunner of hit ABC series Lost, is currently in the early stages of developing a new Star Wars TV series. Cuse is said to be making the show with his son Nick, writer on the likes of the 2019 Watchmen series or Masters Of The Air.
Besides that, absolutely nothing is known about what the Cuses are working on. This means we’ll have to write about some other semi-related things in order to make this news story look a bit more substantial.

There has been an awakening... have you felt it? This past weekend at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, fans of that legendary galaxy far, far away were treated to a slew of updates on new and upcoming projects at Lucasfilm — from Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy movie Star Wars: Starfighter, to Ahsoka Season 2, to major new animated series Maul: Shadow Lord. Now, as we recover from the weekend's celebrations, we're getting word via Deadline that there is another buzzy Star Wars project heading our way: a new series from Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, Nick Cuse (The Leftovers).
Per Deadline's reporting, the father-son duo's series — their first collaboration with one another — is in very early development, meaning not only are things like plot details and casting news a long way off just yet, but the green light hasn't officially been, well, greenlit and ordered to series just yet.

Star Wars Celebration might be over, but that isn't slowing down the news from a galaxy far, far away, as one of Lost co-creators is working on a new series for Disney+. After a weekend filled with news about new films and animated projects, one notable absence from Star Wars Celebration was the news of any new live-action Star Wars series. There was a lot of attention paid to Andor and Ahsoka Season 2, but there was nothing new about the status of Skeleton Crew, or maybe a decision to reverse course and renew The Acolyte. It appears, though, that Lucasfilm has something in the works for live-action Star Wars television, but it might not have been ready in time for a big announcement at Celebration in Tokyo, Japan.

One series comes to an end, and another comes on deck. To that end, Kathleen Kennedy and co. have hired father and son duo Carlton and Nick Cuse to work on a mysterious new “Star Wars” series for the company.

Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son. Carlton Cuse is teaming up with his son, Nick, to develop a brand-new Star Wars TV series for Lucasfilm. As you might expect, there are no details about the potential series at this time, but Cuse has a number of TV credits to his name. The news was first reported by The Insneider.
Although Disney has been slowing down the development of new Star Wars projects, there’s still plenty to look forward to, including the highly anticipated second season of Andor. The new season will premiere tomorrow and takes place “as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance.

A new “Star Wars” streaming series is in the works from Carlton Cuse, the showrunner and executive producer of “Lost,” according to media reports. His son Nick Cuse will also be behind the upcoming series.
Little is known about what the series will be about, who its central characters will be or where it will take place in the timeline of the beloved sci-fi franchise.
Other “Lost” principals have been involved in the “Star Wars” galaxy – “Lost” co-creator J.J. A newStar Wars series is in early development — and it’s coming from a familiar name in the world of sci-fi television, as per reports from Variety and The InSneider. Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, writer-producer Nick Cuse, are teaming up for the first time to develop an all-new story in a galaxy far, far away. With Andor wrapping up shortly, we're in need of a new prestige drama in the beloved franchise, so the timing is ideal. That's the headline, but the rest is shrouded in total mystery.
There are currently no plot details, character teases, timeline hints, or casting information attached to the project, so it's basically little more than a concept at this point. But when has that ever stopped us getting excited? Considering the Cuse family résumé, it’s fair to expect something twisty, ambitious, and character-driven, and probably massively divisive, let's be honest...

The DC Extended Universe is dear to its fans, even if WB decided to reboot and bury it entirely. James Gunn’s version of the franchise is set to be a lot brighter than what Zack Snyder attempted, and Ben Affleck might have sussed this issue out as well.
Zack Snyder’s version of the DC Universe was definitely not aimed at kids, with the IP employing a grittier look that resonated with a section of the audience. However, Ben Affleck, who essayed the role of Batman, was very familiar with the fact that Snyder’s interpretation of the DC Universe might be in for a problem.

Hal Jordan and John Stewart trade outer space for rural Nebraska in this gritty new take.
I’ve never been a huge fan of superhero shows or movies. The costumes, the over-the-top battles, the save-the-world-again finales — it’s just never really been my thing. But that’s exactly why “Lanterns” has my attention. It’s not some big cosmic spectacle. It’s a grounded murder mystery set in small-town America, with two Green Lanterns trying to uncover something dark that’s been buried in the heartland. Think less flying through space, more “True Detective” with power rings. With a sharp creative team and ties to the new “Superman” movie, this feels like a totally different take on the genre. Here’s everything you need to know about “Lanterns.”
Everything you need to know about the ‘Lanterns’ TV series:

First of all, yes, it's disappointing that we're only getting eight episodes instead of 10 like we had in the first season. At some point, I hope studios will figure out that giving fans more episodes closer together in time is infinitely preferable...

For two decades, James Hawes has quietly been one of the industry’s most accomplished television directors. He’s always exhibited a knack for genre storytelling, but season one of the Gary Oldman-led Slow Horses reaffirmed how he can effectively add an unexpected wrinkle to a well-trodden genre like the spy thriller. That prowess now extends to his second feature film, and first major studio film, The Amateur, starring Oscar winner Rami Malek.
The British filmmaker presents the elegant look and feel of a Jason Bourne or Jack Ryan movie, only he’s chronicling an underestimated CIA analyst character in Charlie Heller (Malek) who has no choice but go out into the field himself. Adapted by screenwriters Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, Hawes’ reimagining of Robert Littell’s 1981 novel tracks Charlie’s defiant globe-trotting pursuit of the terrorists who killed his wife, Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan).

Six years ago, Michelle Williams won the Best Limited/Movie Actress Emmy for her role as actress-dancer Gwen Verdon in FX's Fosse/Verdon (2019). Now, Williams could become the 15th actress to win at least two Emmys in this specific category, thanks to her role on FX's Dying for Sex.
Williams plays Molly Kochan, a terminal cancer patient whose tragic, often funny, and wild sexual journey is at the heart of the story. Kochan’s podcast, cohosted with her friend Nikki Boyer, serves as the foundation for the series, which dives deeply into themes of sex, desire, friendship, and death.
The last person to win double Emmys in Best Limited/Movie Actress was Kate Winslet for Mildred Pierce (2011) and Mare of Easttown (2021). It took her 10 years to claim the bookend trophy, while Williams could accomplish the feat in just six years. Should Williams prevail, both actresses would also be undefeated in this race.

Now, a small group, including L.A. City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, are working on a local solution to help bring mid-budget movies back to the city. The plan includes reducing “onerous regulations and permitting” as well other “unnecessary fees, inconsistent safety requirements.”
Cale Thomas, a makeup artist who is co-chair of the L.A political and legislative subcommittee for IATSE Local 706, and members of CA United and Stay in LA as well as producer Greg Zekowski have been working with Nazarian and other councilmembers including Hugo Soto Martinez and Nithya Raman.
