Veteran showrunner Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo, has signed with WME for representation in all areas.

The novelist, screenwriter and series creator is set to debut in summer 2025 Alien: Earth, a prequel for FX to the 1979 film by director Ridley Scott, with Hawley showrunning the sci-fi horror series set to bow on Hulu. The series centers on Xenomorph, a feral and screeching creature, and has an international cast that includes Sydney Chandler and Timothy Olyphant.

As the title suggests, series will be set on Earth and take place near the end of the 21st century, before the event’s of Ridley Scott’s 1979 space-horror classic.

Hawley and his 26 Keys production banner recently created the fifth chapter of the FX anthology series Fargo. Hawley will serve as executive producer, writer, showrunner and director. The Fargo TV franchise has earned over 70 Emmy nominations and won 7 trophies.

Film Movement has snapped up North American rights to folk horror film “The Wait” (La Espera) from Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez, best known for “Before the Fall” and “Rings,” following its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest. Film Movement is eyeing an autumn digital and cable release.

The film is set deep in the Andalusian countryside, where Eladio works as the groundskeeper of a hunting estate owned by the powerful Don Francisco. After taking a bribe from a veteran hunter, Eladio’s normal life falls apart, plunging him into the depths of guilt, hatred and revenge.

“The Wait,” which played at numerous film festivals including Sitges, Shanghai, Vancouver and Oldenburg, is “powerful and devastating,” according to Fotogramas, and “takes viewers along on a macabre descent into hell,” said Screen Zealots. It is “superbly directed,” Horror Fuel said, with an “impressive performance” from Victor Clavijo, according to Starburst.

An Attack on Titan prequel was recently revealed to have been canceled by Hajime Isayama, the manga's official creator, over fears of ruining the series' continuity.

Via X (formerly Twitter), Isayama stated in the new Attack on Titan Fly Artbook that he originally intended to write a prequel, adding that it would "take place 100 years before the main story." He continued, "However, when depicting such a story, if there's even one discrepancy with the main story, it would no longer be a good fit. I'd need a lot of determination to actually draw it, so I didn't make any progress writing it."

After more than 15 years of development hell, the reimagining of “The Crow” will finally hit theaters this summer.

“The Crow” is based on the indie comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr that was originally published back in 1989 by Caliber Press. 30 years ago in 1994, a film adaptation of the comic book by visionary director Alex Proyas was released into theaters, perhaps better known as the movie where star Brandon Lee was accidentally shot and killed on set during the middle of production.

Miramax stepped in and spent $8 million to pick up where production left off and finish the film. “The Crow” went on to gross $93.7 million at the box office against its $23 million budget, and the film eventually became a cult classic. Three lackluster sequels and a television adaptation would follow, however the property had always been earmarked for what current distributor Lionsgate is calling a reimagining.

After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.

Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.

The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).

But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

In his director’s statement for The Wait (La espera), F. Javier Gutiérrez describes his latest feature as a “slow-burn supernatural neo-western set in Spain in the 1970s.” That’s certainly an apt summary, but one that also underscores the movie’s main problem: It’s trying to be too many things at once, and by doing so amounts to less than the sum of its parts.

The Spanish filmmaker’s debut from 2008, Before the Fall, tried to combine a disaster flick with a home-invasion flick, yielding similarly sketchy results. In both cases, Gutiérrez showcases a keen sense of style but an inability, despite all the genre-jumping, to make something that feels truly original. Uppercut, a boxing film featuring Mission: Impossible star Ving Rhames, will close the festival on September 17. Director Torsten Ruether remade his own, German-language, debut Leberhaken, which premiered in Oldenburg in 2021. The Million Dollar Baby-style story sees Rhames as a disillusioned former boxer who gets a shot at redemption when a young woman shows up at his gym, begging him to train her.

The Crow, Rupert Sanders’ reimagining of Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult classic, has found a place to roost.

The Crow will be the first major international production to film in the new Penzing Studios, a backlot recently opened in a former air force base in Penzing, 30 miles west of Munich, Germany. All virtual production on The Crow will be done at Penzing, with location shoots in Prague and Munich. The production will also carry out the majority of its digital asset creation and VFX work in Bavaria, Germany.

The Crow reboot stars Bill Skarsgard (who played Pennywise the Clown in the 2017 and 2019 It horror movies) in the titular role originally played by Brandon Lee, who was accidentally killed on set during the production of the first movie. Danny Huston co-stars.

Morton “Mort” Janklow, a so-called “super agent” whose roster of literary stars included Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Danielle Steele, Judith Krantz, Sidney Sheldon, Ted Turner and Barbara Walters, died Wednesday of heart failure at his home in Water Mill, NY. He died just days before his 92nd birthday.

Nazi-era drama “The Forger,” starring Louis Hofmann of Netflix’s supernatural series “Dark” and the Oscar nominated “Land of Mine,” has debuted its trailer (below) ahead of its world premiere in the Berlinale Special Gala section of the Berlin Film Festival. Based on a true story, Maggie Peren’s film centers on 21-year-old Cioma Schönhaus, who won’t let anyone take away his zest for life. He wants to discover life, but as a Jewish person in Berlin in the 1940s his very existence is threatened by the Nazis.

Through his 26 Keys production banner he will produce along with JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot banner. I don’t have too much more to report on the film, but my understanding is Hawley will helm the fourth film in this iteration of the venerable franchise, with the Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban.

In addition to his groundbreaking series Legion, Hawley serves as executive producer, writer, director and showrunner on FX’s Emmy-winning limited series Fargo. He currently is in production on the fourth season, which stars Chris Rock, with Hawley directing the first episodes. Both series are produced under Hawley’s 26 Keys.

Hawley made his feature film directorial debut on Lucy in the Sky, which premiered at Toronto before Fox Searchlight released in the fall.

They made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Chris Rock has joined the cast of “Fargo” Season 4 — or “Year Four,” as creator Noah Hawley prefers. The stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and director will play the head of an African American crime syndicate who goes to war with the Italian mafia in Kansas City, Missouri during the 1950s.

The Last Witch Hunter has been cooking in the cauldron for years and now it’s really starting to heat up. Last month we reported that Elijah Wood had joined a cast that includes Michael Caine, Vin Diesel, and Rose Leslie, and now German actress Julie Engelbrecht has been cast as the film’s villain, the Witch Queen.

Deadline reports the signing of Julie Engelbrecht to the Lionsgate/Summit fantasy action film that follows a witch hunter who is the last of his kind (Diesel) and spends his time hunting witches in New York City. But when the Witch Queen (Engelbrecht) seeks to acquire a relic that will befall a plague upon humanity, the witch hunter must team with another witch (Leslie) in order to save mankind from imminent doom. The Last Witch Hunter marks Julie Engelbrecht’s (Before The Fall, Rasmus and Johanna, The Red Baron) American movie debut.

Exclusive: German actress Julie Engelbrecht is set to make her American film debut in Lionsgate/Summit’s The Last Witch Hunter opposite Vin Diesel, Michael Caine, Elijah Wood, and Rose Leslie. Diesel leads the fantasy actioner as an immortal witch hunter who teams with his natural enemy, a witch, to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity. Engelbrecht will do battle with Diesel in the villainous role of the Witch Queen, a part she landed after an international casting search.

Breck Eisner is directing the film from a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Gods Of Egypt) based on a pitch by Cory Goodman, with additional work by D.W. Harper and Dallas Buyers Club Oscar-nominee Melisa Wallack. Producers are Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann, and Diesel while One Race’s Samantha Vincent and Adam Goldworm are exec producers. Summit will handle the film’s North American release.

Tom Schilling is one of Germany’s biggest stars. A former child actor who has seen much success in his adult career, he gave strong turns in Before the Fall – winning an award that garnered him a scholarship to go study at the Strasburg Institute in New York – and 2008’s Oscar-nominated The Baader Meinhof Complex. Quite fluent in English, the actor will soon be seen in North America in the big-screen adaptation of Suite Française, the dramedy Posthumous starring Brit Marling, and the historical drama The Woman in Gold, starring Ryan Reynolds, Tatiana Maslany and Helen Mirren.

Back in his native Germany, however, Schilling received much acclaim for the 2012 film Oh Boy!, winning a German Film Award and a Bambi Award for his portrayal of aimless slacker Niko Fischer. Now, audiences in North America can check out his award-winning performance as well, although the film has a new title: A Coffee in Berlin.

Jason Statham has signed on to return as Arthur Bishop in a sequel to his 2011 action-thriller The Mechanic, with German filmmaker Dennis Gansel coming on board to direct.

It isn't known if the project has a screenwriter attached yet, but Nu Image is currently shopping the sequel to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. The original movie, a remake of the 1972 film of the same name which starred Charles Bronson, follows Arthur Bishop, an assassin who lives by a strict code of conduct, and has a penchant for making his killings look like accidental deaths. It isn't clear yet if The Mechanic co-star Ben Foster or any other cast members will reprise their roles for the sequel.

Jason Statham will reprise the role of Arthur Bishop, an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. The first film was directed by Simon West and co-starred Ben Foster, though it's unclear if Foster will return. The trade says that Nu Image is shopping the project to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. The Mechanic , which was made for about $40 million, earned $51 million at the worldwide box office.

The fifth edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival will hold retrospectives of Girish Kasaravalli and Jahnu Barua among others. Five of Kasaravalli’s films: Tabarana Kathe (1986), Kraurya (1996), Thaayi Saheba (1997), Dweepa (2003) and Hasina (2004)will be screened. While Barua’s Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (1987), Banani (1990), Firingoti (1992) and Hkhagoroloi Bohu Door(1995) will be screened.

Back in October of last year we got the first word that Unbroken Films partners Bryan Bertino (The Strangers) and Adrienne Biddle were partnering with Marc Platt to produce Grim Night for Universal, and now finally a director has been chosen.

Per Variety, German helmer Dennis Gansel is in negotiations to make his U.S. directorial debut on Grim Night, which is based on the original screenplay and short film by Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey. The film is set in a world where people lock themselves indoors one night a year for fear of random attacks from creatures known as the Grims. Comic artist Diego Latorre was set to work to provide images as to how The Hangover II actor might look as the titular dark hero. While Apache Entertainment looks to rope in a new creative team and star, the internet can now see what the filmmakers previously had in store. The troubled production has so far gone through two directors (Stephen Norrington and Fresnadillo), at least one writer (Nick Cave) and a signed star in Bradley Cooper (scheduling conflicts with Paradise Lost). Back in August, Bradley Cooper (The Words) who was signed on to star as Eric Draven in Relativity Media‘s totally unnecessary and much maligned remake of The Crow, exited the role supposedly due to scheduling conflicts between production of The Crow and production of the Alex Proyas directed Paradise Lost.

We now have the second bit of “good news” about the proposed remake of The Crow by Relativity Media. According to TwitchFilm, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intruders) who was slated to start shooting the remake early next year has also departed the project. The site reports that director F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall, Monkey’s Paw) is being floated as a possible replacement.

Relativity’s remake of The Crow will hopefully never make it to theaters.

The proposed reboot of the 1994 Alex Proyas film, The Crow, is a project with a perpetual revolving door, it seems. It was only a couple of months ago that Bradley Cooper stepped away from starring in the movie. Now, the film has also lost its director. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) has backed out of the project, rumored to be taking on a reboot of Highlander.

Fresnadillo had replaced original director Stephen Norrington, who had been working from a script by Nick Cave on The Crow. When Cave was removed from the project, Norrington followed, and Fresnadillo was working from a script by Watchmen co-writer Alex Tse. Fresnadillo and Tse had lined up Cooper to star, but Cooper dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

Interestingly, Cooper stepped away from The Crow to work with Alex Proyas on Paradise Lost.

Now, the hunt is on again for a new director, with F.

He was linked back in February this year, now Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ("28 Weeks Later," "Intruders") is the latest director to have dropped out of the long-struggling remake of "The Crow" at Relativity Media reports Twitchfilm

Director Stephen Norrington was initially slated to direct from a script by Nick Cave and Mark Wahlberg rumoured to be interested in starring. Both Norrington and Cave left, replaced by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Alex Tse respectively while Bradley Cooper actually signed on to play the title character.

Then Cooper left due to scheduling conflicts with "Paradise Lost". Now Fresnadillo is gone as well, rumour being that he might move onto the "Highlander" reboot at Summit. In either case he's out. A new director is currently being sought with F. Javier Gutierrez ("Before the Fall") already said to be under consideration.
