Sundance Audience Award Winner ‘East of Wall’ Sells to Sony Pictures Classics (Exclusive)
Tabatha Zimiga in East of Wall (2025)
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired “East of Wall,” a critically acclaimed look at a marginalized, neglected corner of the American West that marks the feature debut of writer and director Kate Beecroft. The film was inspired by real people, with Beecroft convincing Tabatha and Porshia Zimiga, ranchers from the Badlands, to play versions of themselves. “East of Wall” won the Audience Award at Sundance in the Next category.

Variety‘s Peter Debruge praised the film as an “artful debut” and compared it to Chloé Zhao’s “The Rider,” which Sony Pictures Classics also distributed. Other critics agreed with The Austin Chronicle writing, “As a first-time feature filmmaker, Beecroft’s storytelling technique could stand greater development, but her sense of place and mood is spot-on. Her film will definitely make you want to scrape the mud off your boots before you leave the theatre.”

Tabatha Zimiga stars as a horse trainer who,...

Anna Sawai, however — nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series — ultimately lost out to Kathy Bates,...

Every Celebrity Who Has Been Banned by The Oscars
Image
If the Oscars were a high school prom, think of the Academy as the strict principal—one bad move and you’re out. But instead of a tardy slip, it’s a lifetime ban, and instead of a bad dress, it’s a slap across the face or a scandalous crime. While the Oscars may glitter with glamour and red carpet shine, underneath the sequins, there’s a no-nonsense code of conduct that even Hollywood’s brightest stars must follow.

The Oscars roll around every year, but there’s a dark cloud hanging over the event—the infamous ‘No Entry’ list of celebs who’ve crossed the line and earned themselves a one-way ticket out of the Academy.

From a slap that nearly knocked the sparkle off the stage to scandals that shook Hollywood’s very foundation, these stars...

Fernanda Torres in I'm Still Here (2024)
How ‘I’m Still Here’ Scored a Best Picture Oscar Nom: ‘We Knew If Academy Members Saw It, We Had a Shot’
Fernanda Torres in I'm Still Here (2024)
When the 2025 Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, awards-watchers expected to see the titles “Emilia Pérez,” “Conclave” and “Wicked” in the lineup. But the gripping, humane Brazilian drama “I’m Still Here” was a surprise inclusion on the Best Picture list.

Pundits had expected the film to show up in the Best International Feature and potentially Best Actress (Fernanda Torres) categories, both of which it did, but the Academy members – 9,905 voters at last count – also supported the film across all branches to score a coveted Best Picture nomination.

“The Academy members have always gravitated to high quality work,” Michael Barker, co-president of the film’s distributor Sony Pictures Classics, told TheWrap. “Obviously, we knew that this film was high-quality and we knew that if we got enough Academy members to see it, we were going to have a shot.”

He added, “That strategy started a long time ago, and (fellow co-president...

The Best Supporting Actor Oscars Nomination Everyone Saw Coming Didn't Actually Happen
Image
Ever since Oscar season became a year-round affair catering both to industry professionals and movie buffs all over the world, there has been a tendency to pencil in certain contenders sight-unseen based on their previous awards success or showbiz prominence. If Steven Spielberg has a new film on the way, it's immediately a prohibitive favorite for at least a nomination. Meryl Streep in a drama about something timely or socially important? That's one Best Actress nod most likely spoken for.

It's always a mistake to think this way. This is something I learned in 2007, when, as a participant in an Oscar prognosticating poll, I predicted Academy Award nominations across the board for "Charlie Wilson's War." How could I not? A drama about the United States' involvement in Afghanistan directed by Mike Nichols (winner for "The Graduate") and starring Tom Hanks (winner for "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump"), Julia Roberts (winner for...

10 Great 2000s Movies Barely Anyone Talks About Now
Image
The 2000s were positively a weird time for movies. The nostalgia of the '90s was fading, but the future of filmmaking, particularly digital technology, hadn't quite taken over yet. This awkward period produced great films that were bold but often misunderstood, leading to mixed reviews or low interest. As they didn't quite fit the typical mold, some of them were left to be largely forgotten as time went on.

These are some of the most underrated movies of all time, and while barely anyone talks about them now, they still hold a special place in film history. Titles like Down with Love and Vanilla Sky captured something unique about the 2000s, even though they never received the attention they deserved. Despite slipping into the background of time and modern cinema, their distinctive storytelling and charm make them worth revisiting or discovering anew.

The 10 Best Truman Capote Movie Adaptations Of All Time, Ranked
Image
American novelist, screenwriter, playwright, and cultural icon Truman Capote wrote dozens of novels, short novels, plays, and movies on his way to becoming one of the most important voices in New Journalism, and filmmakers have been adapting his work from the start. While some younger generations may only know Truman Capote because of Philip Seymour Hoffman's award-winning performance in Capote, the vast number of movies about Capote are not eligible for a list of movies adapted from his works.

At the same time, movies made from his screenplays, marvelous as they may be, are also not to be included on a list of adaptations. Taking a Capote story or short story and turning it into something memorable that stands apart from the author's original is a higher degree of difficulty than having Capote be a part of the moviemaking itself. While Capote occasionally has a hand in these adaptations,...

‘The Office’ Almost Had an Oscar Winner Playing Michael Scott but Settled for Steve Carell Because “Comedy was the bottom of the barrel”
Image
The Office ranks among the best sitcoms of all time with Steve Carell’s performance as Michael Scott being the primary reason behind its success. The series was adapted from the British version with a similar premise, but Carell’s antics as the Dunder Mifflin regional manager resulted in the American adaptation setting itself apart from its predecessor.

As a result, it might surprise certain fans that Carell initially wasn’t going to be picked for the lead role. In an interview, the show’s casting director Allison Jones talked about the process of finding the lead actor, with a short list headlined by one Oscar-winner the network wanted to land ahead of Carell. Here is what you need to know about the casting process for Michael Scott in The Office.

Steve Carell: “It sounds so pretentious” on Doing Method Acting for His Darkest Role That Made Him Play a Real-Life Murderer
Image
Steve Carell is best known for his comedic roles such as in Anchorman, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and The Office. However, he played against type with the 2014 film Foxcatcher, where he portrayed a millionaire murderer John du Pont. The actor received a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his performance.

While playing du Pont was miles away from the characters he usually undertakes, Carell said that he stayed away from conversations about method acting for the role. Though there was a lot of preparation involved in playing the part, Carell said that he generally followed director Bennett Miller’s instructions and vision.

With ‘A Complete Unknown,’ James Mangold Makes Movie — and Music — Magic Again
Image
Some directors are good with music. James Mangold is one of them. Back in 2006, “Walk the Line” scored five Oscar nods and won Best Actress for Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash. (Joaquin as Johnny Cash lost to Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Capote”). A hard-drinking Johnny Cash (Boyd Holbrook) makes a memorable appearance in “A Complete Unknown” (in theaters December 25 from Searchlight), Mangold’s latest music movie, this time focused on the four-year origin myth of Bob Dylan, from his arrival in New York at age 19 in 1961 to his going electric at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

Mangold is returning to his bent for more personal filmmaking (Best Picture Oscar nominee “Ford v Ferrari”) after tackling 2023 franchise entry “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” for Steven Spielberg. The writer/director spoke to me on Zoom during his global press tour for “A Complete Unknown,” which has earned upbeat reviews,...

Joker: Folie A Deux Comes To Max December 13
Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Jones, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O'Hara in Beetlejuice (1988)
Today is the day Beetlejuice Beetlejuice starts streaming exclusively on Max. It’s a Warner Bros movie, so a Warner Bros streamer gets it — makes sense, right? Not everything from the same studio can be a winner, though, and this means the movie WB released after that one is next…one of the year’s biggest flops, Joker: Folie A Deux. After Todd Philips hypothetical “what if the Joker happened in real life” movie became a smash hit, a sequel seemed inevitable, but what would it be about? It ended with Arthur Peck going to jail and why would they let him out? The answer is, they don’t…in a curveball no one was ready for, Joker: Folie A Deux is a half-musical with the songs taking place in Joker’s head. Joaquin Phoenix returns in the lead role, with no one less than Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn,...

Joker: Folie À Deux Actor Calls Sequel "The Worst Film Ever Made"
Image
Though the movie does have its share of defenders, Joker: Folie à Deux has been the subject of a lot of ridicule over the past few weeks - but we weren't expecting someone that was actually involved with bringing film to the screen to take such scathing shots.

During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, actor and comedian Tim Dillon - who has a small role as an Arkham security guard - shared his blunt, unfiltered take on Todd Phillips' highly-divisive sequel.

“It’s the worst film ever made,” Dillon said. “I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!’ All these think pieces. And then I think, ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now...

Joker: Folie a Deux Digital Release Date Revealed
Image
After causing many a frowny face and very few smiles among critics, audiences, and at the box office, the DC sequel Joker: Folie Deux will soon bring its seemingly intentional divisive nature to homes everywhere a lot sooner than we wouldve guessed. As per a report by Variety, the Joker sequel now has a Digital release date, with the (say the first part quietly) musical thriller landing an at home release less than a month after the sequel hit theaters.

In whats becoming a concerning trend these days, Joker: Folie Deux will make its Digital debut for rental or purchase later this month on October 29. The comic book movie sequel hit theaters just a few weeks ago on October 4, and has been met with scathing reviews and a seriously lackluster box office return, having grossed just $165 million worldwide against its $200 million budget. For context, the first Joker had garnered $248.4 million...

Joker: Folie À Deux Almost Included Footage From In-Universe TV Movie - & We Know Who Would've Played Arthur
Image
In Joker: Folie À Deux, we are told that Arthur Fleck's (Joaquin Phoenix) murderous rampage in the first film was the basis for a TV movie. Lee (Lady Gaga) tells Arthur that she loves the movie and has seen it numerous times, but everyone else seems to think it's "awful."

Somewhat disappointingly, we never actually see any footage from this in-universe Joker movie during the sequel, but director Todd Phillips has now confirmed that he was planning to shoot a trailer - with Justin Theroux (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) taking on the role of Arthur Fleck.

"I talked to Justin about it," Phillips tells IGN. "We were going to shoot a trailer at one point. We just ran out of time. Yes, 'Ethan Chase,' the actor from the first movie."

Just in case you're not sure what Phillips is referencing here, Theroux played an actor named Ethan Chase who appears...

‘The Cruise’ Trailer: Bennett Miller’s Beloved Debut Doc Gets A Theatrical Run This Month For Its 25th Anniversary

Moviegoers know director Bennett Miller best for his films like 2005’s “Capote,” 2011’s “Moneyball,” and 2017’s “Foxcatcher.” But before those three highly acclaimed dramas, Miller made his feature debut “The Cruise,” a documentary about a quixotic NYC tour bus driver that became a quiet cult classic in the city in 1998.

Now, to commemorate the film’s 25th anniversary, Oscilloscope Pictures gives “The Cruise” a new theatrical run starting next week. Told at a frenetic pace, Bennett’s doc follows its subject Timothy “Speed” Levitch as he waxes rhapsodic on his beloved city’s various sites of architectural splendor.

Does Joker 2 Have A Post-Credits Scene? A Spoiler-Free Guide
Image
One of the biggest movies of the fall is upon us. Director Todd Phillips has reunited with star Joaquin Phoenix for another dark tale in the DC Universe in the form of "Joker: Folie à Deux," aka "Joker 2." This serves as a follow-up to 2019's "Joker," which became a massive $1 billion success for Warner Bros. and DC. Whether or not the sequel matches the insanely high heights of the original remains to be seen. Another big question: does Phillips set up more to come with Arthur Fleck? Is there a post-credits scene that fans need to be aware of?

The first "Joker" did not do the typical comic book movie thing as there was no credits scene attached. Phillips said what he wanted to say before the credits began rolling. Then again, at that time, nobody knew just how big of a success this take on the famed Batman villain was going to be.

Emmys 2024 Winners: Big Winners Include Shogun, Baby Reindeer, and The Bear
Image
Cast and executive producers of ‘Shogun’ on stage at the 2024 Emmys (Disney/Frank Micelotta)

Father and son Eugene and Dan Levy did a respectable job of hosting the 2024 Primetime Emmys, popping in just enough throughout the two-hour running time to guide the show without overstaying their welcome. Their opening bit avoided any controversial topics, and Dan Levy got a big laugh when he described the Emmys as broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services. Eugene also earned solid applause when he joked, “In the true spirit of The Bear, we will not be making any jokes,” while addressing the show’s controversial classification as a comedy.

Speaking of The Bear, the series was awarded four Emmys during the broadcast in the Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Supporting Actress (Liza Colón-Zayas), and Outstanding Directing categories. But Hacks pulled off a surprise win, snagging the Comedy Series Emmy.

Richard Gadd, creator and star of Netflix’s breakout hit Baby Reindeer, has won an Emmy for his starring turn in the stalker drama, based on his personal experiences.

Pete Hammond’s Final Primetime Emmy Predictions In All Categories
Image
On Sunday we are celebrating the winners of the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the second time this year after January’s strike-delayed 75th Emmys, but we know the results will be, at least in part, quite different (well maybe not for The Bear). So here is my stab at predicting just who those winners will be.

Outstanding Drama Series

With only The Crown returning from the lineup here just eight months ago, what might have been a fresh, wide open race now seems utterly predictable in terms of a runaway winner. After already setting a record for a single season series with 14 wins at last weekend’s Creative Arts ceremonies, FX’s Shōgun with 25 nominations overall to lead this year’s list of nominees will certainly prevail here, proof that FX’s last minute move from Limited Series to Drama Series will pay off big time.

The Winner: SHŌGUN...

Joker: Folie À Deux "My Name Is Lee" Promo Makes It Clear That Lady Gaga Is Playing A New Take On Harley Quinn
Image
We're now about three weeks away from the release of Joker: Folie À Deux, and following the recent "final" trailer, Warner Bros. has shared a new featurette spotlighting Lady Gaga as this universe's take on Harley Quinn.

This version of the fan-favourite Batman villain turned anti-hero goes by "Lee Quinzel," and while she will share some characteristics with her comic-book counterpart (bit crazy; loves that Joker), this teaser makes it very clear that Gaga is not playing the Harley Quinn, just as Joaquin Phoenix is not the Joker.

The featurette includes an interview with Gaga, as well as some new footage from the film.

During a recent interview with IGN, director Todd Phillips explained why he decided to stray away from the usual depictions of Harley for this movie.

"We respect the comics. We get the comics. In Harley's case, we watched the animated series. Of course, Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn.

Shōgun, Jamie Lee Curtis, Quiz Lady and more win big on night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmys
Image
The second night of the Creative Arts Emmys commenced Sunday night. The FX series Shōgun would prove to be the awards darling of the night by taking home an incredible number of awards for categories that include Guest Actor, Costumes, Makeup, Hairstyling, Stunts, Production Design, Visual Effects and more. The historical drama snagged a total of 14 Emmys over the course of both nights and leads in wins.

Another popular FX series, The Bear, would have its own run of wins as the intense cooking show took home statues for casting, picture editing, sound mixing and guest stars Jon Bernthal, as well as Jamie Lee Curtis, who also served as the opening emcee for the ceremony, which was held at the Peacock Theater. The Bear has not been able to catch up to Shōgun, but the show has, so far, collected seven wins, which is just one more than the leader for Night 1, Saturday Night Live.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Stole the Show in This New-to-Netflix Comedy
Image
When people regale each other with why Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the most dynamic titans of acting in the past 35 years, his comedic prowess isn't usually brought up. We tend to think of him more for his bellowing fury and repressed sorrow, his endearing shlubbiness and elusive sense of decorum. He was one of the few actors who could conceivably be in almost any kind of film or role, ranging from the brash comic relief in Twister to the paragon of compromised principle in his Oscar-winning title performance as Truman Capote in Capote. He may have had a clear preference for high drama, but he consistently peppered his career with broadly comedic roles in films like Flawless and Charlie Wilson's War, but his greatest comedic turn was in Along Came Polly, stealing the whole film from the likes of Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston.

‘The End’ Review: Are You Ready for a Post-Apocalyptic Musical? Tilda Swinton Is
Image
The odd, accidental synchronicity of the movie business brought us double volcano movies, double asteroid/comet movies, double Pinocchio movies and double Truman Capote movies in rapid succession, along with four body-swapping movies over two years back in the 1980s. But “The End,” which premiered on Saturday night at the Telluride Film Festival, may be part of the weirdest trend in cinematic coincidence of them all: film-festival movies that are musicals, even though there’s absolutely nothing in the subject matter to make you think they should be.

First there was Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez,” which caused a sensation at this year’s Cannes Film Festival by taking a story of a Central American drug lord who undergoes gender reassignment surgery and filling it with songs. The Venice Film Festival struck next with “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which finds Todd Phillips turning his sequel to the Oscar-winning 2019 drama “Joker” into a musical,...

Joker: Folie À Deux - The Whole World Is Watching Arthur Fleck In New Sneak Peek Teaser
Image
Ahead of its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival next week, Warner Bros. Pictures has released a brand new 30-second TV spot for Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux, offering up some fresh new footage from the highly-anticipated DC tale.

The film returns Joaquin Phoenix (Napoleon; Inherent Vice) to his Academy Award-winning role as Arthur Fleck and partners him up with fellow Oscar-winner Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born; House of Gucci) for an all-new musical adventure that promises to be even darker than the original billion-dollar blockbuster.

While plot details remain relatively scarce, the latest plot synopsis reveals, that the film, which boasts a 138-minute runtime, will find "Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him."

One of Parks and Rec's Stars Nearly Played Michael Scott on The Office
Image
With his recent portrayal of Gene in the fourth season of The Umbrella Academy, Nick Offerman is currently on everyone's minds. The actor has appeared in many recent iconic projects, such as his unforgettable role in The Last of Us. However, Offerman is primarily known for his role as Ron Swanson in the popular sitcom Parks and Recreation. Offerman played the moody, private, and mediocre boss of the Parks and Recreation department of Pawnee for 7 seasons, earning the love of fans. Many people, however, would be surprised to know that Offerman could have played another endearing yet obnoxious boss in another well-known sitcom, The Office. It's hard to imagine the sturdy and broody figure of Ron Swanson as the ridiculous Michael Scott (so well played by Steve Carell), but Offerman has proven to have a great range of comedy in several roles. Even Ron Swanson had his many absurd shenanigans...

Philip Seymour Hoffman Only Directed One Movie, and It's A Must-See
Image
Few celebrity deaths related to the film industry came as quite as big of a shock as the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman in early 2014. Despite still being actively involved in many upcoming projects, Hoffman had already proved to be worthy of being considered alongside the all-time acting greats of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Tom Hanks, ironically three stars that he had worked with personally. Hoffman was unique in that he was a true actors actor, and would often choose roles that were challenging and interesting, and not simply ask to be the lead in every film he appeared in. Hoffman left behind many towering performances in modern classics like Almost Famous, Magnolia, Capote, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Charlie Wilsons War just to name a few, but he also had many underrated roles that werent given the attention that they deserved upon their initial release. Among the...

‘The Gilded Age’ Costumes: A Display of Wealth, Power and Sophistication
Image
“The opera is where society puts itself on display,” says Carrie Coon’s character Bertha Russell in “The Gilded Age.” She is correct, but in HBO’s period drama set in late 19th century New York City, society is always on display and nearly every scene is a showcase for the luxe sartorial indulgences of the elite.

Created by “Downton Abbey” mastermind Julian Fellowes, “The Gilded Age” is a soapy saga in which old money begrudgingly rubs elbows with the nouveau riche. The 1880s were a period of rapid industrialization, political corruption and an ever-widening gap between the wealthy and the poor. And from the series’ very first episode, costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone wanted to capture the spirit of excitement that defined the era. “There were those giant socio-economic differences that were visible daily on the street,” she said. “The ladies of means, the ladies who had money, it was their town,...

Tom Hollander’s Compassion For Capote In ‘Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans’ & Role In New “Technology Thriller” ‘Iris’ From ‘Luther’ Scribe Neil Cross
Image
When Tom Hollander took on the role of Truman Capote in Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s Anthology Series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, it wasn’t the first time he’d contemplated playing the famously acerbic New York writer—some years ago he had auditioned for a different version of the role. Now, in portraying Capote’s complex and self-destructive spiral into alcoholism and isolation, written by Jon Robin Baitz, Hollander describes an experience so profoundly immersive that he himself has not yet been able to watch it. Speaking from Rome where he is currently shooting Iris—the upcoming drama series from Luther creator Neil Cross—Hollander explains his process for Feud and the impact of embodying a gay man with the courage to live out and proud in an unaccepting society.

Chris Cooper movies: 17 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Chris Cooper is an Oscar-winning actor who has brought his laconic, folksy presence to dozens of movies, many of which have become modern classics. Let’s take a look back at 17 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.

Born in 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, Cooper cut his teeth in theater before making his film debut at the age of 36 with a lead role in John Sayles‘ “Matewan” (1987). The movie kicked off a decades long collaboration between the actor and director, with the two pairing up for such titles as “City of Hope” (1991), “Lone Star” (1996), “Silver City” (2004) and “Amigo” (2010).

He hit the Oscar jackpot with his supporting turn in Spike Jonze‘s “Adaptation” (2002), a self-reflective comedy about screenwriter Charlie Kaufman‘s (Nicolas Cage) struggles to adapt Susan Orlean‘s (Meryl Streep) nonfiction book “The Orchid Thief.” Cooper played John Laroche, the eccentric, swampy horticulturalist at the center of Orlean’s story.

Nicole Holofcener on ‘Self-Conscious’ James Gandolfini, ‘Sad Girl’ Jennifer Aniston and That First Season of ‘Sex and the City’: ‘I Didn’t Know If I Was Going to Be Working on Porn’
Image
Nicole Holofcener wouldn’t mind reuniting with her “Friends With Money” star Jennifer Aniston.

“Maybe we will work together again,” she says.

“She knew my movies. She knew I don’t do a lot of makeup and that she would have to look like a ‘sad girl.’ And that time in her life was very sad, too: she just split up from Brad Pitt like a month before. I think she wasn’t sure if she wanted to dive in or not, but she did, and she was a pleasure to work with.”

Holofcener isn’t gunning to cast massive celebs in her films, however.

“There was a time when I cast the wrong person to get financing and it was a disaster,” she recalls.

“Don’t fix what’s not broken. If I am having a great time with Julia Louis-Dreyfus or Catherine Keener, if they elevate me and the material,...

10 Most Rewatchable Philip Seymour Hoffman Movies, Ranked
Image
There are precious few actors who can truly be called chameleons, and the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of them. An uncannily accurate performance in Capote won him the Academy Award for Best Actor, but going through the man's filmography makes one think he could've (and should've) won more. His talent was of the highest order, and Hoffman's greatest movies demonstrate how he commanded attention in roles large, medium, and small. Easily one of the most phenomenal actors of his generation, Hoffman's presence alone makes a movie worth watching.

‘Feud: Capote vs the Swans’ will continue Emmy-winning ways of the franchise
Image
“Feud: Bette and Joan” took the Emmys by storm in 2017, with the first season of the Ryan Murphy anthology show receiving rave reviews for its depiction of the rivalry between actresses Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange).

Season two will hope to match that Emmy success (more on that later) with its portrayal of Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) and his falling out with a group of New York high society socialites known as the Swans. Capote wrote a fictionalized account of the Swans’ dramatic lives, leading to the Swans vowing revenge for betraying their confidence.

The glossy show is typically gorgeous, scandalous, and theatrical while the performances are all top-drawer. Hollander dazzles in the lead role as Capote, which is no mean feat considering the late, great Philip Seymour-Hoffman won the Best Actor Oscar for his turn as Capote in 2005’s “Capote”). Meanwhile, Naomi Watts, Diane Lane,...
