Apple TV+’s highly anticipated heist action-adventure movie, Fountain of Youth, stars a fresh new pairing of John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the story follows estranged siblings teaming up to embark on a journey to find the famous Fountain of Youth, a mythical spring.

Described as in the vein of Indiana Jones but contemporary, the Fountain of Youth’s plot and new pairing have got fans excited. The trailer for the movie was recently released, and while a few critics noted that it seems a bit difficult to find the tone of the movie, others have praised it and shared that it deserves the hype despite not being the first movie to follow a storyline of a search for immortality.

But here’s why I am excited for the movie, and you should be too.

1. Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth is a modern Indiana Jones...

Nicolas Cage admits that he does not regret passing on a widely successful buddy comedy movie, 31 years after it premiered. Cage has maintained a genre-spanning career, which includes unusual and transformative performances in Vampire's Kiss and Face/Off. After winning an Academy Award for Leaving Las Vegas, he appeared in numerous blockbuster movies, ranging in audience reception, including the National Treasure and Ghost Rider franchises. More recently, Cage portrayed Dracula in Renfield and shocked fans as a demonic serial killer in Longlegs.

Throughout his film catalog, Cage has also had many comedic roles, including Raising Arizona and the self-referential The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Demonstrating that he can be equally funny and romantic, as well as dramatic, Cage has starred opposite Cher in Moonstruck and Laura Dern in Wild at Heart. Ferris Bueller and Cameron Frye are about to have another day off. Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck, on-screen high-school best pals in the classic teen comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off, are set to reunite on the big screen. The duo are in talks to star in The Best Is Yet to Come, a new comedy from Lionsgate. Deadline reports that the film is a remake of a French comedy of the same name.

Broderick and Ruck will star as a pair of lifelong best friends; after a tragicomic misunderstanding, one of them comes to believe that the other only has months to live. The two embark on a road trip (hopefully not in a borrowed 1961 Ferrari Gt) to find the "dying" man's long-estranged son, and to rediscover life along the way. The Kids’ Table, which describes itself as “a premium content company for creators and brands,” launched this week, promising it “will provide the expertise to deliver high-quality, evergreen stories and build franchises that reach kids wherever they are, on screens, platforms, and devices worldwide.”

It’ll do that by offering individual content creators and companies original IP development, help with adapting existing IPs into other mediums, content slate building, production resources, and licensing. It says digital distribution of these IPs on YouTube “will play a key role” in its overall strategy.

Attention history buffs and people who long for the time of movie stars uncovering centuries-old secrets: the next big, blockbuster history-focused adventure is just around the corner. Fountain of Youth, starring A Quiet Place's John Krasinski, Academy Award winner Natalie Portman, Eiza González from 3 Body Problem, and Domhnall Gleeson of Ex Machina fame, is Apple TV+'s upcoming action-adventure film. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping casts young Haymitch

Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film, has cast its young version of Haymitch Abernathy, the fan-favorite character played by Woody Harrelson in the original films. Haymitch will be played by Joseph Zada, who will next be seen in the upcoming shows We Were Liars and East of Eden. Emmy nominee McKenna Grace (The Handmaid's Tale) has also boarded as Maysilee Donner, Haymitch's fellow tribute from District 12, while Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl) will play Haymitch's girlfriend Lenore Dove Baird. Sunrise on the Reaping tells the story of the 50th Hunger Games, 24 years before Katniss Everdeen's (Jennifer Lawrence) first Hunger Games, which Haymitch won. The film is based on a just-released novel by Suzanne Collins, and is slated for Nov. 20, 2026.

Fountain of Youth follows two estranged siblings who reluctantly partner on a global heist to find the mythological, legendary Fountain of Youth. They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives... and possibly lead to immortality. The movie stars John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Eiza González, Domhnall Gleeson, Arian Moayed, Laz Alonso, and Carmen Ejogo, with Stanley Tucci (as the "bad guy" trying to protect the fountain). While this is trying to be another National Treasure or Uncharted, it doesn't have the right vibe and still looks like a mess.

A group of kids & family executives, writers, directors, producers from Nickelodeon, Disney, Apple TV+, YouTube, and Max have launched company The Kids’ Table, focused on producing and distributing content targeting kids and family audiences across platforms.

It plans to team up with brands which have not had significant exposure in film TV or digital as well as YouTube creators for original IP development, adaptation of existing material, content slate building, full-scale production, content extensions, and licensing. The idea is for the content to be financed by the brands before it is taken out to streamers.

“We are not consultants,” co-founder Chris Viscardi said. “We’ve spent our entire careers crafting characters, creating unforgettable worlds, and producing stories that kids and families return to again and again. Now, we’re ready to deliver the same results to brands.”

That probably hasn’t surprised the movie’s star, Nicolas Cage, at all. If you’ve been craving the feeling that Nicolas Cage’s “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence” gave you back in “National Treasure,” John Krasinski might be able to give it back in the first trailer for “Fountain of Youth.”

The film centers on two estranged siblings, played by Krasinski and Natalie Portman, who team up — albeit a little begrudgingly in Portman’s case — to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Per the official synopsis, “They must use their knowledge of history to follow clues on an epic adventure that will change their lives … and possibly lead to immortality.”

Jack Thorne has just stepped off a train when he picks up the phone to Deadline, the latest destination in a dizzying round of interviews about what could become the biggest hit of his career: Adolescence.

The writer was arriving back in London from Manchester, where he and Stephen Graham sat on BBC Breakfast’s famous red sofa to discuss their Netflix series in front of the British nation. For a man who always appears breathlessly busy with work, even Thorne seems a little dazed by the interest in Adolescence. “It’s been a really delicious and wonderful whirlwind,” he says.

Thorne and Adolescence director Philip Barantini first sat down with Deadline last month to tease the drama, which opens with 13-year-old Jamie Miller (played by the extraordinary newcomer Owen Cooper) being arrested by armed police on suspicion of murder.

The Shrouds will be reaching theatres in New York and Los Angeles on April 18th, then will expand nationwide on April 25th. So a feature film it is, and Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the film, with their plan being to give it a theatrical release sometime in 2025. We don’t know a specific release date for this one yet, but the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that The Shrouds has secured an R rating – primarily for sexual content and nudity! Here’s the reason given: Rated R for strong sexual content, graphic nudity, language and some violent content.

Nicolas Cage is continuing to expand his wild filmography by dipping his toes into the western genre. But, it wouldn't be a Nic Cage movie without the actor either delivering one of the most groundbreaking, emotional performances of his life, or one of the most bonkers caricatures you've ever seen. For his new, wild western, Gunslingers, Cage has characteristically chosen the latter.

With lots of movies being added over recent weeks and a few departing from the platform, some changes were almost inevitable. Though I didn't expect to see just one remain unchanged from last week. As is often the case, some favorite old characters make a reappearance, too.

Likewise, in terms of shows there were some big hitters arriving on our screens recently. That's definitely had an impact this week with just one remaining from the previous week. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Ford addressed Dial of Destiny's box-office struggles, with the movie marking his last turn as the eponymous archeologist and thrill seeker. Ford admits he gambled on Dial of Destiny, insisting he wanted to tell one more story centered around his lead character. Though he takes some blame for its underwhelming performance, Ford doesn't feel he made a mistake doing the later Indiana Jones film.

It's rare to find a truly legendary actor, someone whose multifaceted talents and stellar track record can justify such a lofty moniker. Luckily for all, there are a few performers whose talent has earned them that title, with one of the most deserving being the hilarious, the tearjerking, and even the at-times traumatizing Nicolas Cage. From Vampire's Kiss to National Treasure, the man has made a name for himself through gripping performances — which is what makes it so unfortunate that a string of lackluster roles means viewers didn't see him for a while.

They Cloned Tyrone is a 2023 sci-fi mystery film directed by Juel Taylor, in his feature film directorial debut. The film’s story centers on a motley trio living in the fictional though recognizable Glen, a neighborhood replete with its own thriving criminal ecosystem. There’s the drug dealer Fontaine (John Boyega), the prostitute Yo-Yo (Teyonah Parris), and Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx), a cartoonish pimp, all of whom find themselves in a web of intrigue after Fontaine is shot dead yet wakes up in his bed the next day. Eager to discover how Fontaine lives on, despite being fatally gunned down in front of Slick Charles and Yo-Yo, the trio set off on an impromptu investigation into the hidden activities of the Glen. The critically acclaimed film boasts a particular strain of home-grown conspiracy and spins a simultaneously bleak and entertaining sci-fi tale about circumstance, autonomy, governmental corruption and the importance of identity.

The production team behind Netflix’s Black Mirror has a new series, Toxic Town, set to arrive on the streaming platform sometime this year. There is also a lot to look forward to from the streamer, with MCU movies like Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, as well as anticipated sequels like Freakier Friday and Zootopia 2.

While there will be a big wait for some of those titles to land on Disney+, there are plenty of movies to choose from in the library in January 2025. Some of Disney's biggest 2024 releases are available, like Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2, as well as some overlooked gems like The Young Woman and the Sea.

Disney has been trying — and failing — to recreate the success of the first Pirates of the Caribbean since The Curse of the Black Pearl first sailed onto the big screen in 2003. Within just a few years of that, the entertainment giant produced two flawed but serviceable, enjoyable sequels that delighted audiences with more swashbuckling fantasy, masterful effects, and fan-favorite character dynamics as the original. Along the way, Disney tried some more movies based on theme park rides and other properties similar in tone to Pirates of the Caribbean. Guy Ritchie's latest movie, the heist adventure Fountain of Youth, feels like a spiritual successor to the Indiana Jones franchise, and is actually a better alternative than a potential sixth installment of the Harrison Ford franchise.
