Dept. Q crime series set to start resolving those unsolvable cold cases
Image
At the turn of this century, a crime series titled Cold Case was quite a rage among viewers. Starring Kathryn Morris, a Philadelphia detective with her problems, who went on solving a cold case after another, the series ran for seven years. Dept. Q, a new Netflix series with a similar concept that will open its cold case files on May 29, 2025, might repeat such a success.

The new series is based on the books by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, and stars Matthew Goode as Edinburgh, Scotland, detective Carl Morck, who has quite a few personal demons to resolve.

During an attack, an officer was left dead, and his partner was paralyzed, and the guilt was pressing on Morck's shoulders. To regain his confidence, Morck is tasked with opening a cold case department - Dept. Q.

Scott Frank wrote and directed the series, insisting that Goode be cast in the main role.

Watch the Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders Documentary First Look and Trailer
Image
In 1982, at least seven people in Chicago died completely unexpectedly. The common thread that tied their mysterious deaths shocked the nation: They’d all taken Extra Strength Tylenol laced with cyanide. News of the wide circulation of these lethal Tylenol capsules sparked a panic across the country and one of the largest criminal investigations in US history.

The three-part documentary series Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders is the latest installment in the Cold Case franchise, which began with 2024’s exploration into the death of JonBenét Ramsey. The Tylenol Murders reexamines the case that turned the ubiquitous over-the-counter drug into a murderous threat — and fundamentally called into question the blind faith many have in the world’s most trusted brands. Was it a maniacal killer who acted alone or a larger, potentially more unsettling conspiracy and cover-up?

From directors Yotam Guendelman and Ari Pines and executive producer...

Netflix Doubles Down On ‘Cold Case’ True-Crime Strand With Tylenol Murders Series
Image
Exclusive: Netflix is expanding another one of its non-fiction strands.

The streamer has ordered a three-part documentary series about the Tylenol murders, which saw at least seven people die in the early 1980s in Chicago as a result of ingesting cyanide-laced Tylenol capsules.

The Tylenol Murders is part of the Cold Case franchise, which Netflix launched last year with Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, which reexamined the killing of the six year old from Colorado.

That series came from director and producer Joe Berlinger, who will produce Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders. It will be directed by Yotam Guendelman and Ari Pines, who directed Israeli true-crime series Shadow of Truth, which subsequently aired on Netflix.

The Cold Case strand is similar to its Turning Point franchise, which includes three series – Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War, Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror and Turning Point: The Vietnam War,...

Eat Your Heart Out, Willy Wonka — A Hershey's Chocolate Movie Is in the Works
Image
The story of America's most famous chocolatier is coming to the big screen. Variety reports that the life story of candy tycoon Milton Hershey is being molded into a new biopic. Finn Wittrock is set to star as Hershey, while Alexandra Daddario will play his wife, Kitty. The movie will be released in 2026.

Mark Waters, the veteran helmer behind Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, is set to direct Hershey, which will center around the love story between Milton and Kitty, as well as their extensive charitable efforts. The two were married in 1898, just as Hershey was perfecting the mass production of milk chocolate, leading to the creation of the iconic Hershey bar. Unfortunately, however, their romance was cut short in 1915, when Kitty died of a nervous system disorder at age 43: Milton lived another thirty years and never remarried, carrying a photo of her with him for the rest of his life.

Like Star Trek’s Jonathan Frakes, A Voyager Legend Moved Behind the Camera to Direct the Most Legendary ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ Episode
Image
It is not a new thing for members of the Star Trek cast to step behind the camera and take on directing duties for some episodes. Who better than the only ones to feature in every episode to take over the reins sometimes? Actors like Jonathan Frakes and LeVar Burton have directed the most number of Star Trek episodes even after their shows ended.

However, one actress who transitioned into directing and has made it her bread and butter (much like Frakes) is Voyager’s Roxann Dawson. Dawson played B’Elanna Torres in the spinoff show and directed two episodes of the series later. She has since been the guiding force for some of the best network shows of the past few decades.

'The Pitt' Stars Visit a Real-Life Hospital in Heartwarming Video
Image
A wholesome moment of art imitating life, that's what happened recently for The Pitt star Noah Wyle when he, alongside his other cast members, visited the Children's Hospital Los Angeles for their 10th Annual Make March Matter campaign. While there, Wyle was approached by a doctor who explained that Wyle's time on another record-breaking medical drama, ER, inspired him to go into medicine. The Pitt star, understandably touched, was also taken aback when that doctor asked Wyle to autograph his board certificate. "This means more than coming from the actual board," the doctor explained as Wyle signed it. Wyle explains "this is a first" for him to be signing someone's board certificate.

“People Will Be Watching 20 Years From Now”: CEO Casey Bloys Wants ‘The Pitt’ To Be Max’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Image
As much as streaming platforms love the eight-episode, three-season format for most of their series, they ignore that when fans love a new show, they want to spend as much time as possible with their new favorite characters. If new hit series The Pitt manages to retain its massive audiences in the coming years, Max CEO Casey Bloys is confident that it can be HBO’s Grey’s Anatomy.

Bloys talked about The Pitt’s potential during an interview with Vulture, and he acknowledged that you can only reproduce the longevity and popularity of shows like Grey’s Anatomy if you specifically set out to create something that audiences will be loyal to in the long run. He stated:

"The idea with 'The Pitt' is, if you want another 'Grey’s Anatomy' or 'West Wing' or 'Cold Case,' or name your long-running procedural, you’ve got to replenish it.

Before Marvel's Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman Had A Guest Role On Justified
Image
It remains almost impossible to believe that Chadwick Boseman, the man who would be Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is gone, even though it's been nearly five years since his tragic death from colon cancer. Boseman was only 43 years old when he died in the summer of 2020, and yet he'd left a permanent mark and legacy on the world of pop culture. The fact that he portrayed such an instantly beloved superhero played a huge part in crafting his legacy, of course, although Boseman's award-worthy performances in films like "42" (which paved the way for him to get the role of T'Challa) and "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" went a long way towards proving that if he'd had the chance, he would have made an even bigger impact outside of the MCU thanks to his innate talent and charisma.

Of course, the reality is that most actors aren't movie stars,...

15 Best British Crime Dramas, Ranked
Image
There's something about a British crime drama that can be so much more satisfying than its American counterpart. Perhaps it's the performances, often executed by trained thespians. Maybe it's their preference for season-long arcs, which offer variety and closure of American network procedurals while allowing room for larger-scale storytelling. I could be that everything just sounds cooler, smarter, and more intense in a British accent.

While we may have yet to solve this case, we have put together a suspect list of the 15 best British crime dramas ever made, and we've also ranked them based on overall quality. Hopefully for our readers in America or otherwise outside the United Kingdom, we can help you find your next binge-worthy mystery.
