"Decision to Leave" is now streaming on Hulu, so you've got an easy decision to watch ahead of you. The 2022 South Korean film, directed by Park Chan-Wook, combines romance and mystery. Distributed stateside by Mubi, "Decision to Leave" racked up impressive streaming viewership over there. Its addition to the Hulu library will likely (and should) expand that viewership even more.
In "Decision to Leave," Busan detective Jang Hae-jun (Park Hae-il) is investigating the death of a rock climber, Ki Doo-soo (Yoo Seung-mok). The dead man's wife, Song Seo-rae (Tang Wei), has a motive; she's a Chinese immigrant and Doo-soo, an immigration officer, essentially blackmailed her into marriage. Seo-rae has scars from physical abuse too. But her husband died by tumbling down an enormous rock, so surely it must've been a suicide or an accident, right? Hae-jun keeps looking into Seo-rae,...

While Western action films often fall into categories such as serious, genre-defining films like “Drive” (2011), or long-running franchises like “Mission: Impossible” or “John Wick,” or even more comedic and mainstream-friendly entries like “Novocaine” (2025), Tamil cinema continues to forge its own path. In recent years, Tamil action films have aimed to be more grounded and emotionally driven with vulnerable protagonists. These films often attempt to combine character depth with stylized actions and layered storylines, which, while admirable, can feel overwhelming when squeezed into runtimes under 130 minutes.

The modern era of Hollywood only has a handful of true movie stars. The definition of the role has changed fundamentally over the years as the studio system morphed and shifted, and as a result, the amount of undeniably bankable stars the studios actually want to invest in has dwindled. But in the small handful that still remains, Florence Pugh shines as one of the brightest and best movie stars we have today.
She is absolutely fearless in front of the camera, and her taste in roles supports her obvious drive to find the most exciting and challenging ways to build her craft. Though her career has been, realistically, quite short so far, Pugh has already established herself as a risk-taker, and because of that, audiences are excited to show up when she makes the choice to lend her skills to a project. Honestly, she's rarely in something that doesn't deserve high praise.

Hollywood may dominate the global box office, but for true cinephiles, the real rite of passage begins with exploring non-English films, which are, by definition, international movies. Stories from countries/regions introduce us to different cultures and broaden our perspectives, offering a new way to see the world.
Movies like Slumdog Millionaire, from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, are prime examples of people, culture, and struggles shown from a foreigner’s lens. For the real taste of the world, audiences have to dive into cinema beyond Hollywood. When Bong Joon-ho accepted the Academy Award for Best Director for Parasite, he famously said, “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”
From action and romance to slice-of-life genre, including animated ones, this list consists of some of the best non-English films that one must definitely watch before they die. Without further ado,...

There’s a discernible bookend quality to season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, thanks to the creative reboot that happened over the course of production. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead directed the final two episodes of the season, as well as the premiere, giving an overarching arc that carried through smaller stories like the St. Patrick’s Day bank robbery or the hunt for the serial killer Muse (Hunter Doohan).
“The big things that we did were changing the tone a little bit, into something a bit darker,” Moorhead tells Gold Derby. “By the way, when I say ‘we,’ I mean the two of us, but also of course Marvel and Dario [Scardapane], our showrunner. We also made it more serialized, stretching arcs through every episode. And amusingly, everybody was missing ‘oner’ fights. So we got tasked with being able to bring a oner into the universe, which we would've fought to do anyways.

Few cinematic tools are used as often — and as badly — as the oner. Also known as a long take or a one shot, a oner is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: One shot that goes on for several minutes, sometimes encompassing an entire scene or (in particularly showy films) multiple scenes. Even though it’s ostensibly the absence of trickery, long takes are difficult to pull off, and sometimes are done purely for the sake of being showy rather than them being particularly necessary. But when a long take is justified, and done well, it can be one of the most thrilling things to experience onscreen.
In the early days of cinema, very long takes were relatively rare, as most directors relied on the cinematic foundation of shot-reverse-shot editing to tell stories. One of the earliest examples comes from “The Stranger,” a 1946 thriller directed by Orson Welles. Welles...

Netflix giveth, and Netflix taketh away. For every film, there is a season - and those can creep up on you pretty quickly when it comes to streaming services.
Netflix is constantly adding new content to its servers, as you know. As I'm currently shelling out $38.55 every month, I feel that Netflix could afford to add a few thousand terabytes of storage just from my payment.
Yet here we are, losing great content just as fast as we get the new stuff. Listen, if it means getting a new Knives Out flick, I'll gladly give up The Ridiculous 6. But no, that abomination will likely be the last thing ever streamed by the robots and the lizard people when our sun becomes a red giant and utterly consumes the planet. But the good stuff, that's the stuff we lose. The clock is ticking on three of the best movies that may...

However, since the controversy began after Kim Sae Ron’s death, he has witnessed a significant dip in his popularity. From losing Instagram followers to losing major brand deals and projects, his career is facing an extreme setback right now as his public image continues to get tainted. Mr. Wick is again trying to retire in John Wick: Chapter 4. The 2023 John Wick installment has Baba Yaga meeting old friends and making new enemies as the High Table hunts him down for everything he did in the last three movies. The nail-biter sequel to the action franchise is set in various international locations, including Japan and France, where its diverse cast impresses in fight sequences more gruesome than ever.
Some of Keanu Reeves' co-stars in the fourth chapter are seen from the first movie, like Ian McShane and Lance Reddick as the manager and the concierge of the Continental Hotel in New York City. New cast members like Bill Skarsgård and Natalia Tena are fantastic additions, and their characters steal the show in their scenes. Even newcomer Rina Sawayama shines in a minor role, leaving no doubt that the cast of John Wick 4 is outstanding.

Spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again" follow.
The premiere of "Daredevil: Born Again" wastes no time at all, kicking off with an action scene that's out to remind you of the original "Daredevil" series.
Here's the set-up: Bullseye has attacked Josie's Bar and critically wounded Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson). Matt/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) arrives and attacks Bullseye, fighting him into the bar. Daredevil has strength and rage on his side, so Bullseye is left running. The one-take begins in the interior of Josie's, then follows Bullseye as he makes it up the building's stairwell, Daredevil close behind, before the fight concludes on the roof.
These extended one-take action scenes were a hallmark of the Netflix "Daredevil," which did a new one in each season while trying to one-up the previous scene. The first was in the second ever "Daredevil" episode, "Cut Man" (directed by Phil Abraham). Taking place in an apartment building hallway,...

A remake that took two years to make couldn’t entertain its audience fully for more than two hours and managed to stay on the right lane only for half its runtime. “Vidaamuyarchi” (meaning: Perseverance) is a Tamil road action film starring Ajith Kumar as Arjun, Trisha Krishnan as Kayal, Arjun Sarja as Rakshith, Regina Cassandra as Deepika, and a mix of some Indian and Azerbaijani actors. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the film attempts to deliver a gripping action thriller but ends up diluting its core by focusing on unnecessary emotional baggage.
Arjun, the protagonist, was a charming man in his early days but has grown bitter over time. Kayal, once drawn to his presence and personality in their youth, was deeply in love with him. That was twelve years ago. Now, the once-happy couple is struggling with their marriage, on the verge of separation. Before the divorce, an unexpected...

Valentine’s Day might be about flowers, chocolates, and romance – but in horror, love often leads to obsession, betrayal, and bloody revenge. With slasher thrills, supernatural hauntings, or twisted tales of doomed romance, horror movies set around love and relationships add an extra layer of intensity. Interestingly, horror movies that use romance as a device go right back to the origins of horror cinema, intertwining desire with thrills and kills.
For those who prefer their Valentine’s Day with a side of terror, we’ve rounded up the best horror films to watch on February 14th. These movies prove that sometimes, love doesn’t just break your heart – it rips it out.

South Korea has a strong presence in the international landscape of entertainment, especially in music and cinema. The horror genre has been explored in South Korea since the early days of the country's cinema and evolved significantly throughout the decades, becoming a synonym of innovation and expertise in the genre. K-cinema is particularly associated with some of the best supernatural horror and zombie horror movies, yet Korean horror cinema has something for every taste.
Known for blending cultural themes into horror, the genre has been through different phases. Early Korean horror movies were often cautionary tales that reflected tendencies and fears within Korean society, perfectly exemplified by the 1960 psychological horror movie The Housemaid. Around the late 1990s and early 2000s, the genre experienced a renewal in South Korea. This shift propelled the making of more high-octane action horror, like 2006's The Host, and other subgenres that are still popular in Korean cinema today.

Stars: Miriam Yeung Chin-Wah, Bai Ling, Lee Byung-hun, Kyōko Hasegawa | Directed by Fruit Chan, Park Chan-wook, Takashi Miike
In 2002, the horror anthology film Three was released, consisting of three horror tales from East Asian countries. The film received accolades and a sequel, which was released two-years-later in the form of Three… Extremes. The anthology follow-up collected three more horror tales from different directors, and was successful enough in the United States that its predecessor received a stateside release. Strangely enough, Three was repackaged to Western audiences as a sequel entitled Three… Extremes II.
Opening up this anthology is Dumplings, the Hong Kong entry from director Fruit Chan. Arriving at a house is Mrs. Li (Miriam Yeung Chin-Wah), a formerly well-known actress who wishes to get dumplings sold by Mei (Bai Ling). They are considered the most expensive for a good reason, as the dumplings miraculously make the eater look younger.

Marco (2024) Movie Review: There is a reason that the word “hero” has become synonymous with “protagonist” in Indian mainstream cinema; the lead role in a given mass masala film is almost always a morally upstanding and decent person who fights for the weak, even if they initially appear otherwise. Yet there has always been a craving for more “grey-shaded” roles from the filmgoing audience. Ajith Kumar’s iconic villainous turn in the Tamil film “Mankatha” (2011) had an impact that is still felt today, as the promise of a similar villainous role for “Thalapathy” Vijay from director Venkat Prabhu was a major selling point of “The Greatest of All Time.” Even “Kgf”, one of the most influential franchises in current memory, is planning to bring back Yash’s Rocky bhai character who, as both films hurry to assure us, is not a hero but a “villain” and even a “monster!

Movie romances never run out of obstacles to throw in the way of the main couple, but the most iconic hurdle of all is the forbidden love story. This trope has been executed countless times throughout cinema history. There's something particularly heart-wrenching and exciting about two people who long to be together but can't, due to circumstances out of their control.
Stories such as Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet have existed for centuries, but the forbidden romance plot line is still relevant today in other variations. From blockbuster hits like Titanic to animated treasures like Beauty and the Beast, these romantic pairings fight to overcome barriers such as class, society, and rivalries to be together. While forbidden romances likely won't go away anytime soon, these couples always stand out as the most iconic.

It's often been said that Hollywood loves a remake, but there are still some classics that audiences agree should be left alone. Occasionally, there are some exciting movie remakes and reboots that can update beloved stories for modern audiences. However, these types of movies are the outliers. Mostly, audiences are sketpical of remakes, and they have every reason to be so, given how some of these projects have flopped in the past.
There's a common sentiment that movie remakes can detract from the brilliance of the original, or at least taint people's memories of them. Remakes like The Ladykillers, Oldboy and Dumbo have all been derided for the way they missed the point of the originals. Some remakes seem like terrible ideas as soon as they are announced, since not all movies need the remake treatment, even if they're decades old.

Josh Brolin has certainly appeared in some strange movies over his career, and it might be a result of his childhood, which the actor recently revealed wasn't always glamorous, despite being the son of revered actor James Brolin. As well as the phenomenal No Country for Old Men, The Goonies and Dune (to name a few), Brolin has also undertaken some strange roles, like Spike Lee's questionable Oldboy remake, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, and the easily forgotten Jonah Hex. Josh Brolin reflected on a charmed career marked by many disappointments. He revealed how his successful debut in The Goonies was followed by a long, lackluster string of films and TV shows.
Josh Brolin confirmed The Goonies definitely launched his career, but he didn't get the roles he hoped for after that. He admitted not caring for subsequent offers, as he just took them on the spot. "And then you experienced this incredible thing that's now become even more incredible, but afterwards it wasn't that. I'm sure I got thrashing based on The Goonies and then after that it just kind of went downhill."

One never forgets watching a Park Chan-wook film for the first time. One of the most visually vibrant and thematically bracing directors of his era, Park revolutionized the thriller genre for decades, beginning from his breakout film, Joint Security Area, to his 2022 Hitchcockian riff on obsession, Decision to Leave. The consensus in the film world states that Park's most renowned film, Oldboy, is the peak of his abilities, a savage revenge thriller that is equally garish and bone-chilling. However, time will be the kindest to Park's true masterpiece, The Handmaiden, a perfect storm of a thriller that is erotic, twisted, and haunting that should've been a disaster in anyone else's hands, but under Park's calculated direction, the spontaneity of its tonal shifts underline the precariousness of human nature and our perverse desires.

In a year full of terrific (and terrifying) horror movies, "Heretic" stands out from the crowd. Driven by captivating dialogue and a simmering sense of dread that eventually boils over into outright terror, the writing and directing duo of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have done the impossible: They've made an A24 horror movie that captures the studio's trademark sense of unease while also delivering a proper crowdpleaser. It's the kind of movie that feels carefully built to appeal to horror fans ranging from arthouse to casual, all without sacrificing character, atmosphere, and yes, scares. As I wrote in my review from Fantastic Fest, this is simply an extremely good time at the movies.
And delivering extremely good times at the movies is what Beck and Woods do best. After writing "A Quiet Place," they directed two of the most underrated genre films of the past few years with "Haunt...

Mr. Crocket is a Hulu horror film with an outstanding cast of veteran actors and newcomers alike. The new film contends with the best horror movies on Hulu, offering a unique take on the genre for the Halloween season. Set in 1993, the film is centered around a villainous children's show host, the titular character, who emerges from television sets to kidnap children and murder their parents. Mr. Crocket plucks a boy named Major away from his living room and brings him into a demonic realm, forcing his mother to set out to get him back.
The new Hulu horror movie is directed by Brandon Epsy, an up-and-coming filmmaker whose credits so far include short films and an episode of Bite Size Halloween. Despite his inexperience with feature films, Epsy established an engaging, unique aesthetic for Mr. Crocket that utilized retro visuals to embrace its 1990s VHS tape feel. The film...

Action films have carved out their niche within the cinematic landscape, thriving on adrenaline-pumping sequences. In Timo Tjahjanto‘s latest Indonesian action film, The Shadow Strays, now streaming on Netflix, the female protagonist’s hyperkinetic fight scenes mirror her inner struggles and societal conflicts. Her retaliation to seeking restitution becomes another unauthorized mission in life to amend the traumas of a violent childhood incident that haunts her sleep. It propels her into a world where physical strength and bravery reign supreme and the inevitable clashes are not merely displays of power but moments of catharsis. However, despite the smooth choreography and stunning visual effects dominating the narrative, the plot feels predictable and clichéd. There is a major lack of originality and anything out of the ordinary in its storytelling.

The following contains spoilers for MadS. Proceed with caution.
Sometimes, the best and worst thing about horror movies is that certain gimmicks are so often rehashed for an easy scare. Whether it's the timeless jumpscare or bleak endings where the survivors were never destined to survive in the first place, certain conventions made the genre predictable. But when it comes to storytelling techniques, one-shot horror films are few and far between but seem to always push the envelope in unique ways. This is exactly the case with David Moreau's MadS, which tells a story that feels both familiar yet brand new while proving that something as medium-defying as a one-shot movie is exactly what horror needs right now.

Will Smith and Steven Spielberg were on a similar wavelength in the 2000s. After he finished licking his wounds from 1999's "Wild Wild West," Big Willie was hungry to prove his mettle as a dramatic actor. Adapting a bit of a one-for-them-one-for-me mentality, Smith earned his first two acting Oscar nods for "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness" in-between nodding his head as Agent J and tearing up the streets of Miami again as Mike Lowrey. Even his tentpoles started to get a little darker and heavier along the way, with the actor anchoring a big screen rendition of Richard Matheson's end-times sci-fi horror tale "I Am Legend" and playing a hard-edged, heavy-drinking superhero in "Hancock."
Spielberg, meanwhile, spent the first decade of the 21st century redefining his work. Really, there was very little he didn't try his hand at during this period, from crafting disquieting, noirish visions of...
