Apple TV+ is bringing light to one of the greatest civil rights movements that has largely been left in the shadows with its new documentary, Deaf President Now!. A new trailer previews the firestorm that erupted in 1988 when the board of trustees at Gallaudet University, the world's only college for the deaf, elected a controversial hearing president to oversee operations. Furious over the highly qualified deaf candidates who were passed over for the job, students rose up en masse to protest the decision in a watershed moment for the Deaf community that would have ramifications far beyond the campus grounds. Packed with exclusive interviews with those involved and archival footage, the film premieres on May 16.
The footage opens on news reports that demonstrate the massive scale of the week-long protests under the Deaf President Now! movement. Seeing a woman who could hear sail over two deaf candidates, one of whom...

Today, Paramount released the trailer for Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which Tom Cruise himself teased yesterday with an image that suggested an America’s Next Top Model photo shoot. I’m not complaining.
The film, budgeted at $400 million, is the eighth and ostensibly last Ethan Hunt adventure, which the trailer goes to great lengths to emphasize. It’s in everything from the glimpses of the spry, ever-running Cruise from earlier films in the series to the chatter about it all having “come to this,” our lives being “the sum of our choices,” and that we need to trust him…“one last time.”
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opens May 23.

Back in 2008 -- when torture movies were still riding high -- VH1 had a brilliant idea. Well, they had a "brilliant" idea. Tapping into the successes of both the "Saw" movies and reality shows like "America's Next Top Model," the network produced "Scream Queens," a competition show that gathered together 10 hopeful actresses and had them undergo a series of auditions and acting challenges, arranged in an elimination tourney structure, with each getting help from professional acting coach John Homa. The grand prize would be a small role in "Saw VI."
It might come as a surprise to you that this series was directed by James Gunn, who also served as one of the show's main judges. He was joined on the judge's panel by Shawnee Smith, who played the role of Amanda Young in "Saw," "Saw II," "Saw III," "Saw VI," and "Saw X." This was at a time when...

When American reality television expanded beyond singing talent shows, one of the series at the forefront was America's Next Top Model. Taking the format of a competition series with the niche of professional modeling, Antm was groundbreaking. Easily one of the most important reality television shows of the 2000s, viewers were given an inside look at the cutthroat world of print and runway modeling through the lens of a high-stakes competition. With Tyra Banks at the helm, the series doubled down on image, at first. But over the years, Antm became that show that broke the rules. It expanded beyond the common tropes of beauty standards, it showcased the reality of the diverse world of modeling, and eventually demanded the contestants feature inclusion based on gender and body type.

Tyra Banks isn’t here for people coming for her America’s Next Top Model legacy.
The reality TV show burst onto the scene in 2003, with Tyra using her modeling skills to find fresh faces for the runway.
America’s Next Top Model ran for 22 seasons on The CW before moving to VH1 for the final two seasons.
Tyra not only created Antm, but she hosted the show for 21 seasons, with Rita Ora stepping in to help refresh the series on VH1.
In recent years, clips of Tyra being overly harsh and insensitive have surfaced as former contestants call out her treatment of them.
One example was Tyra telling a contestant, in a mean and mocking way, how she would never get a “covergirl” contract because of the gap in her teeth.

Tyra Banks owned up to some controversies surrounding her hit reality series America’s Next Top Model.
The 51-year-old supermodel launched the show in 2003. It ran for 24 seasons with Tyra serving as the main judge for all but one.
In 2020, the show went through a reckoning online with some viewers calling out troubling moments, including a photoshoot where contestants had their skin darkened to appear “biracial.”
Although Tyra acknowledged that the show sometimes got it wrong, she also praised it for breaking ground.

Tyra Banks didn’t always “get it right” on “America’s Next Top Model,” she told attendees at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, adding: “I said some dumb s–t.”
Banks was the event’s first Luminary Spotlight honoree on Feb. 27.
“Over 20 years ago I created a show called ‘America’s Next Top Model’,” she began her speech. “And you guys have no idea how hard we fought to bring the diversity to that television show at a time when it didn’t exist; to show different beauties at a time when the world was like, ‘What? You casting that?’ A time when people in the fashion industry were telling me, ‘You putting the girls from the hood on your show?”
“I was like, ‘Why can the girl from the trailer park become a supermodel but the girl that’s chilin’ in the park in the hood can’t?’” she added.

In recent years, America’s Next Top Model has not necessarily aged with the grace of a cover star — something host Tyra Banks addressed in a recent speech at Essence‘s 18th annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards, held at Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel Feb. 27.

The Black Panther world is getting a bit smaller in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brad Winderbaum, the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, has confirmed that they are no longer moving ahead with a live-action spinoff series centered around Danai Gurira's Okoye.
During an interview with Pay or Wait (via X) to promote Daredevil: Born Again, Winderbaum revealed that the animated Eyes of Wakanda miniseries was the only Black Panther spinoff that would be coming to Disney+ in the near future. For 12 years and the same number of seasons, Simon Helberg played Howard Wolowitz — the turtleneck-wearing, would-be lothario who's best friends with Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), and Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) — so you'd think it would be tough for him to really hone in on his favorite episodes. You'd be a little bit right about that, actually.
In an interview with Newsweek in April of 2022 to promote his film "As They Made Us" — directed by Mayim Bialik, who played Sheldon's girlfriend and eventual wife Amy Farrah Fowler and worked alongside Helberg on "The Big Bang Theory" — Helberg said he couldn't really choose a "favorite" episode of the long-running Chuck Lorre sitcom. "I don't have a quick answer for that," Helberg replied when asked about his all-time favorite episode. "I guess the answer is, I don't have a favorite one.

The longevity and expanse of The Real Housewives franchise has introduced audiences to dozens of cast members from around the world. Most cast members of any Real Housewives show have a spouse that similarly becomes part of The Real Housewives world.
The marriages of the cast members on all The Real Housewives shows are often front-and-center when it comes to drama and intrigue. Some couples have ended their marriages while on the show, notably Rhonj's Teresa Giudice, Rhobh's Erika Jayne, Rhop's Ashley Darby, and Rhom's Alexia Nepola and Lisa Hochstein.
Rhoa's Phaedra Parks, Porsha Williams, and Kenya Moore's marriages ended while on the show, as did Rhony's Luann de Lesseps and Romana Singer. Additionally, Rhobh's Kyle Richards has separated from her husband, Mauricio Umansky.
Many of these housewives remain on their respective shows, but a surprising number of former cast members have exited the spotlight and subsequently divorced their spouses.

Molly O'Connell is one of the newest cast members to join Season 10 of Southern Charm. In the first episode, viewers learn that she's close friends with Madison LeCroy, who introduced her as, "She's funny, and she's weird in a good way." She had a sexting relationship with Craig Conover, and has a crush on the much-older Whitney Sudler-Smith.

There's America's Next Top Model alum Molly O'Connell, who admitted to sexting Craig Conover, former Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise star Salley Carson, who has a very close connection to Taylor Ann Green's ex Shep Rose and her new beau, and Ryan Albert, a very close confidant to Miss Patricia Altschul.
While the OGs are back for another season, fans may have been disappointed when cast member Olivia Flowers revealed she was fired before filming began for Season 10. It certainly shocked fans as she was a major part of Season 9, in which we watched her ex, Austen Kroll, in a messy love triangle. Still today, Olivia admits that she still can't believe she was let go from the reality TV show.

Southern Charm Season 10 sees a few new cast members joining the Charleston socialites, like America's Next Top Model alum Molly O'Connell and Southern Hospitality star Salley Carson, as well as some old ones no longer with us, like Olivia Flowers.
However, what's stayed the same is Austen Kroll bringing in a new love interest. In Season 6, Austen introduced Madison LeCroy as his girlfriend, and in Season 8, Olivia made her debut as Austen's significant other. This season, fans see the reality TV star in a committed relationship with a woman named Audrey Pratt, who also goes by "Pooks, pookie monster, and pookapotamus."

Vice recently released The Shocking Truth About America's Next Top Model as part of their Dark Side of Reality TV series. In the documentary, previous contestants of Tyra Banks' controversial modeling contest opened up about their horrible experiences on the show. Having watched Antm as a child through my teens, I'd say Tyra may have been projecting her traumatic modeling experiences onto the contestants.
The supermodel—who was sued for alleged abusive conduct on America's Got Talent—has been open about facing many rejections in the industry, which she even pinned on a clueless Naomi Campbell in 2005. There have also been related statements from a former judge reportedly fired by Tyra, regarding her behavior on the show.
Here are the parallels between Tyra's career and the challenges she imposed on Antm contestants.
