Will Smith in I, Robot (2004)

Goofs

I, Robot

Edit

Continuity

In almost every scene with Lanning's cat, her eyes are blue. But When Spooner jumps in the fountain, the cat's eyes are yellow.
In the final scene, NS-5s are walking into shipping containers and are shown covered in their usual translucent white plastic. In the next and final shot that pulls back over the crowd, none of them have the translucent white plastic, and are just the bare metal skeleton.
After Sonny dents the table in a fit of rage in the interrogation room, in the wide-angle shot, the table is not dented.
When Spooner is running about in Lanning's house with the cat under his arm, the cat switches arms between shots (most noticeable when he runs down some stairs)
When Spooner first encounters Sonny, the robot jumps out of the window and falls many floors down to the plaza below, significantly damaging the concrete. However when Spooner arrives at the spot where he landed, the area is undamaged.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Spooner is fighting off the NS-5s while Calvin attempts to gain access to V.I.K.I.'s positronic brain, Spooner drops a large gun with a shoulder strap which then appears to spontaneously attach itself around a large guide wire. The gun-strap actually swings over and snags onto the guns clip. If you slow down the shot you can see it easier. Its also explains why the straps length is shortened by half.
Each time the flashback appears of Spooner in his submerged vehicle, a robot shows up telling him he's in danger. But the robot is completely dry, his voice is not garbled as it would be underwater, and when he breaks out the passenger window no water rushes in. That's because Spooner's car wasn't completely submerged, Sara's car was.
A suspension bridge requires the large cable to be hanging between two towers. There is only one tower standing, so the other end of the cable is just dangling, not connected to anything. Without the cable, such a short section of bridge deck could easily support itself just resting on the tower, as happens during construction of a cable-stay bridge.
Sonny tries to hide in a perfectly-spaced array of 1,000 robots. Apparently, he can enter random spots in the array without affecting the regular spacing, even though the other robots do not move.

However, we do not see the array of robots until after Spooner and Calvin arrive, so it is possible that one or more robots had to move, but this was not shown on screen.
The story takes place in Chicago, but right before the scene of Spooner and John getting drinks in a bar, the sign next door to the bar suggests, in Chinese, that the place is in Canada. However, a "Hawaii Bar" might be found in Moscow - businesses can be named for other locations.

Revealing mistakes

Miscellaneous

The suspension bridge in the background of the USR obsolete storage yard would not have deteriorated in such a fashion. The two cables arches are each one continuous cable length going from the ground anchor on one shore to the ground anchor on the opposite shore. If there happened to be a symmetric collapse on each side of that tower as depicted, only the tower would be left standing, with the roadway and falling into the water and the cables draped down on either side of the tower.
Sonny (Alan Tudyk) is the only 'character' who speaks proper English, with the right grammar.

Anachronisms

The movie takes place in 2035. Assuming Dr. Calvin is 30-35 meant she wad born at or around the year 2000 and would have grown up familiar with and would have ridden in gasoline vehicles growing up. Her not aware of gasoline and gasoline engines and manual driving is unrealistic.

Character error

Spooner blithely accepts VIKI's lame excuse about "data corruption" in the video log 1 minute before the window break, without investigating the source of that problem, or asking for the video prior to the corruption.
Spooner barely survives his car flipping repeatedly in the tunnel and bouncing through a construction zone. His boss behaving as if losing his firearm during that was a punishable offense is a clumsy plot device to let him be a "rogue cop seeking vindication".
