Apple TV+ original TV show, The Studio, is turning heads globally, with Seth Rogen, along with some Hollywood legends like Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Hahn, running a studio called The Continental, and together they greenlight movies, give notes, make changes to the movies to fit the global standards, and show the chaos that follows when a movie has to be made.
The series is gaining a lot of attention, mainly due to the legit directors, actors, and other Hollywood legends becoming common faces and showing their life in a whole different light than what people are used to seeing, and it’s not just real people that the series uses, it also takes inspiration from real events and puts it in their stories to make a hilarious storyline. Let’s talk about The Revenant. 2016 – The year Leonardo DiCaprio finally clinched that elusive Oscar after what seemed like a lifetime of being the bridesmaid, never the bride. Sure, it was a feel-good moment, the kind of redemption story Hollywood loves to tell. But wait… Did the Titanic star really deserve that statue for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant? Or was this a case of the Academy just making up for lost time?
We’re not saying his performance wasn’t impressive, because it was. But let’s not forget that year another actor turned in a performance that was just as bold, just as nuanced, and in many ways, far more deserving of the gold. Michael Fassbender, playing Steve Jobs in Steve Jobs, turned in a performance that was a surgical dissection of a complicated genius. Fassbender was nothing short of masterful in his portrayal of the man behind Apple,...

Miriam Haley began to break down in tears on Wednesday as she told jurors about the moment she realized that Harvey Weinstein was about to sexually assault her.
“I just decided to check out and endure it,” she said.
The former TV production assistant is the first of three accusers to testify at Weinstein’s retrial in Manhattan. Recounting testimony she gave at his first trial five years ago, she alleged that Weinstein assaulted her at his SoHo apartment on July 10, 2006.
Prior to that visit, Weinstein had invited her to attend the “Clerks II” premiere in L.A., an invitation she accepted. He later asked her to stop by his apartment to meet, and she agreed — explaining that it felt awkward to refuse after having just accepted the invitation to the premiere.

Imagine Christian Bale as the tormented Jedi who falls to the dark side, or Leonardo DiCaprio donning the robes of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. According to an old rumor from the early 2000s, both Oscar-winning actors were seriously considered to play young Jedi who would eventually become Darth Vader.
In the early 2000s, the galaxy far, far away nearly had a different Chosen One. Long before Hayden Christensen became the face of Anakin Skywalker, the Batman star Christian Bale was widely rumored to be George Lucas’ top pick for the iconic role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Cate Blanchett announced earlier this week that she is considering stepping away from acting. In a recent interview with Radio Times, the two-time Oscar winner revealed, “My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting. [There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life.”
While Blanchett has remained busy with high-profile projects — including Disclaimer for Apple TV+ and Jim Jarmusch’s upcoming film Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, c0starring Adam Driver — she sounded sincere about stepping away from the business. Fame, she admits, has never felt entirely natural.
“When you go on a talk show, or even here now, and then you see sound bites of things you’ve said, pulled out and italicized, they sound really loud. I’m not that person,” she explained. “I make more sense in motion – it’s been a long...

Cate Blanchett, a two-time Oscar winner, has told the British press she is retiring from acting in the near future.
The actor-producer said in an interview with Radio Times this week that she wasn’t sure calling herself an “actress” was quite accurate: “It’s because I’m giving up… My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting. [There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life.”
The Australian star spoke ahead of BBC’s Radio 4 airing an adaptation of Wallace Shawn’s The Fever, Blanchett’s first radio play. It follows a woman from a privileged background who visits an impoverished foreign country and suddenly becomes ill. She becomes emotionally unsettled and contemplates the little impact she’s had on the world.

Cate Blanchett is surprising fans by revealing in an upcoming issue of Radio Times (via The Standard) that she is not going to be an actor forever. Few would argue against the idea that Cate Blanchett is one of the great actresses of her generation. The sheer versatility she has displayed in her performances on film has especially made her one of the world’s most sought-after screen stars over the past three decades. For 2022, she received her eighth career Oscar nomination for "Tar."
In 2021, in the span of just a few weeks, she displayed her signature multi-talent: For Adam McKay’s “Don’t Look Up,” Blanchett turned herself into a cable news host in the vein of Megyn Kelly or Mika Brzezinski to score major laughs in the biting comedy; for Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley,” Blanchett transformed into a 1940s femme fatale who gets one over on an overconfident con man (Bradley Cooper).
Blanchett has two Academy Awards wins for “The Aviator” (2004) and “Blue Jasmine” (2013), prevailing as a supporting actress the first time and then as a lead.

Martin Scorsese's near-$200 million historical epic is coming to streaming in April. The 2002 crime drama Gangs of New York started the filmmaker's long working relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio.

If you want to watch a Gen-Xer get wistful, just ask them about MTV in the 1980s and '90s. MTV wasn't just an endless repository for music videos and short films (which would have made the network significant on its own); it also dictated a great deal of the generation's cultural attitudes. There was a punkish, puckish outlook in the '80s as punk, New Wave, and Hip-Hop all rose to the fore, gleefully tearing down old music traditions and setting up something that could be intense, playful, or sometimes just plain silly. The 1990s adopted a great deal of angst, as the disaffection grunge generation and poetic alternative rock came into prominence. In 1994, it wouldn't be strange to see a Hip-Hop music video, a suicidally dark industrial music video, a tender ballad, a heavy metal music video, Nirvana, and a weird novelty act like Green Jellÿ all in a row.

A few years ago, after a few rough battles with the press and paparazzi and the cancellation of his MSNBC talk show, Alec Baldwin penned a much-publicized article announcing he’d be leaving “public life.” He reconsidered that departure and then appeared in the popular 2018 films “BlacKkKlansman," “Mission Impossible: Fallout” and "A Star Is Born," as well as the 2019 release "Motherless Brooklyn." On the small screen, he appeared in the limited series “The Looming Tower," recreated his recurring role on the reboot of “Will and Grace" and hosted “Match Game."
Most notably Baldwin continued his appearances on “Saturday Night Live” lampooning Donald Trump. He made so many appearances in 2017 that he won an Emmy as Best Comedy Supporting Actor, his third career prize after his two leading wins for "30 Rock."

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, legendary film critic Pauline Kael grouped together a new generation of filmmakers by calling them The Movie Brats. Her grouping of young and influential filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola and Brian De Palma would come to define the shift in the movie-making sensibilities of Hollywood and herald the birth of the modern blockbuster with movies like Jaws and The Godfather.
One of the most impactful directors of the Movie Brats generation, Martin Scorsese, has been making complicated and entertaining films for more than 50 years. Many of his movies are considered the best of all time, and his most flawless movies are the ones that are able to beautifully and tragically capture the darkest sides of the human condition.

Is today Leonardo DiCaprio Day? I ask because DiCaprio is at the center of another massive Hollywood headline after returning to YouTube to share the trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, One Battle After Another. According to reports, Disney is close to sealing a deal for Martin Scorsese‘s latest drama, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt, and Dwayne Johnson leading the cast. The untitled project, set in Hawaii, has the following description: Imagine Robert De Niro’s Goodfellas’ Jimmy the Gent character, but as a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, also based on a real figure, who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime in Hawaii.
In Deadline‘s exclusive report, the outlet describes Scorsese’s latest project in vivid detail. The pitch, written by Nick Bilton, includes crime of all kinds, with shady characters operating a syndicate from outlandish places. It “focuses on a turbulent time on...

Cate Blanchett is opening up about how ageism and sexism have changed in Hollywood since she began her acting career.
While recently chatting with Business Insider, the two-time Oscar-winning actress said, “The shelf life of actresses when I first came on the scene was about five years.”
Blanchett, 55, made her onscreen debut in the ’90s before building an extensive acting resume that includes dozens of projects, as well as two Oscar wins for best supporting actress for The Aviator and best leading actress for Blue Jasmine.
Now, the Black Bag star thinks “female producers have more agency. There’s more females in the writing room, and the more diverse the industry is at base level, when things are developed, the more exciting it is for audiences.”
While Blanchett also noted that “there’s ageism and sexism in every industry,” she explained that it’s different in Hollywood because “we’re a very public-facing industry.

Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett would prefer if the biggest nights in Hollywood were kept within the industry.
Blanchett said during Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang‘s “Las Culturistas” podcast that she would prefer to go “back to the day” when awards shows weren’t televised to the public. That way, those nominated and attending could instead focus on being part of a “great party” and not dealing with photographers and lip readers on social media.
“There’s so few spaces that you can go now where you are private,” Blanchett said. “That’s what I loved about the late ’80s, going to all of the dance parties in Sydney for Mardi Gras. People were just there. They were so present, you know, they were just together, collectively, having a great time. It was non-aggressive. No one was being recorded. No one cared what anyone did.”
The “Black Bag” and “Disclaimer” star continued,...

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of Hollywood's most prominent icons, emerging from a child star to a heartthrob, and evolving into a gifted and talented actor who still commands box-office success. Following global superstardom in James Cameron's Titanic, he reinvented himself as a versatile and interesting leading man, and so far, DiCaprio has made six feature films with legendary director Martin Scorsese. Awards success followed, with DiCaprio winning numerous accolades throughout his acting career, including three Golden Globes from seventeen nominations, and a BAFTA Award.
However, despite several prominent Oscar snubs for DiCaprio, he has enjoyed success at the Academy Awards, where he has enjoyed six acting nominations; Best Supporting Actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, and Best Actor for Blood Diamond, The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and The Revenant, finally winning for The Revenant in 2016. Cate Blanchett is longing for a pre-social media era of awards shows.
The 2x Oscar winner recently made the case for non-televised awards shows after she discovered the “blasphemy” of lip readers on TikTok who reveal what celebs are saying in videos from the exclusive events.
“Go back to the day when it wasn’t televised,” she said on the Las Culturistas podcast, from iHeartMedia and Will Ferrell’s Big Money Players Network. “Bring that back and just have a great party where people can just let go.”
Blanchett continued, “I mean, the fashion is great, and all of that stuff. We’ll find out in the end who won or who didn’t win. But it would be so nice that that happened behind closed doors. Absolutely a very different evening.”
During the podcast, the Black Bag actress also decried the lack of privacy amid the age of social media.

Leonardo DiCaprio's impressive career is marked by iconic roles and acclaimed films. The Revenant became a highlight after it earned him his first Best Actor Oscar award in 2016.
Hulu is streaming 2015's The Revenant this April. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, this gritty Western had a stacked cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. Set against the backdrop of America's wild frontier, this revenge story follows fur trapper Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) surviving the odds and the elements to hunt down John S. Fitzgerald (Hardy) and avenge his son's murder. Depicting man's struggle with unforgiving nature, DiCaprio's character had to endure an ordeal that included eating dirt, sleeping in a horse's carcass, and being mauled by a bear. Robert Legato – the respected VFX innovator who won Oscars for “Titanic,” “Hugo” and “The Jungle Book” – has joined Stability AI at chief pipeline architect. In doing so, he reteams with James Cameron, an influential board member for the AI firm.
Legato is credited with creating the virtual cinematography pipeline for Cameron’s “Avatar,” which went on to surpass the director’s “Titanic” as the highest grossing film of all time with $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office. Legato’s pioneering work has also included “Apollo 13,” “The Aviator,” and the virtual production of “The Lion King.” He’s also held roles at Digital Domain (the VFX studio co-founded by Cameron in the early ’90s), Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Imageworks over his 30-plus year career.

[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in August 2024. It has since been updated with new entries, including “Black Bag.”]
When director Todd Field sat down and wrote his film “Tár,” there was only one option to play the title character. As he described to IndieWire in an interview, the film wouldn’t have been made if Cate Blanchett hadn’t agreed to take the part of lauded conductor Lydia Tár. “I had no backup plan,” he told IndieWire. “I’d met Cate 10 years ago and I knew coming out of that meeting that I had just been in conversation with somebody that had one of the great brains I ever met. And it was someone that I was really, really desperate to be able to collaborate with.”
It might seem silly to hinge your entire film on the participation of a single actor; the Australian Blanchett doesn’t share any notable biographical details with the fictional American conductor that makes her casting meaningful in a meta sense.

The 2000s saw him earn considerable critical acclaim and begin a successful collaboration with Martin Scorsese in movies like The Aviator and The Departed, cementing himself as a true power player in the industry.

When looking at Johnny Depp’s filmography, one can easily recognize that he looks like an actor who the Academy would snub multiple times. Talented, versatile, and with no desire to win the coveted trophy, Depp’s incredible performances are a testament to the fact that being the people’s champion is much more valuable than any other award.
Still, the legendary actor has been nominated thrice for the award. His most popular role, Captain Jack Sparrow, got a nod in his first appearance. However, all three nominations were with incredibly talented artists as his fellow nominees, and winning was tough. Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Clint Eastwood were just some of his competitors.

In the late '70s and '80s, audiences were obsessed with the TV show "Dallas," prime time western soap opera about the Ewings. The series became so popular that the network CBS began developing a spin-off centered around one of the Ewings we saw very little of in the original series.
The new project -- titled "Knots Landing" -- followed Ted Shackelford's Gary Ewing and his wife Valene (Joan Van Ark) after they moved to a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. We recently checked back in with the cast of the 1978 series "Dallas" to see where they ended up after all these years. When the Borderlands movie was announced, many fans were surprised that horror director Eli Roth would be helming it. However, it's worth noting that as much as the video game is filled with sci-fi and action, it does have monsters and terrifying elements to it, which is right up Roth's alley. Borderlands attempts to kick off a hopeful franchise by reinterpreting the first two games, where Vault Hunters seek cosmic weapons on planets like Pandora.
These Vaults were left behind by an ancient alien race known as the Eridians. Notably, there are many twists and turns that nod to the likes of Uncharted, Star Trek, and Star Wars, all while focusing on a ragtag band of misfits meant to save the cosmos. With that in mind, here is an extensive look into the cast Roth has assembled for his space opera. The movie was met with negative reactions by critics and the public audience.

For decades, Leonardo DiCaprio has kept Hollywood on its toes by delivering the perfect blend of tabloid-worthy bad-boy charm and being idolized as a timeless movie star of classic and legendary films. His rise to fame following James Cameron’s 1997 opus Titanic was not in vain as the actor then kept proving himself as the industry’s next figurative golden goose.

Martin Scorsese is lining up a major new project, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the hottest packages in Hollywood. The legendary director is set to helm a crime drama starring Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt. The film, currently untitled, will be written by journalist and author Nick Bilton and is inspired by real events.
The story focuses on a powerful and ruthless Hawaiian crime boss in the 1960s and 70s, a figure reminiscent of Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent from Goodfellas. The film is described as a sweeping crime saga, marking another venture into the gangster genre for Scorsese, who previously explored similar themes in The Departed and Goodfellas.

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are attached to produce a new film based on an original idea from Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The Hawaii-set crime caper, which is currently being shopped to studios and streamers, is drawing comparisons in the industry to “The Departed” and “Goodfellas.” Even in spirit, there are no deals in place and the viability of the project depends on a distributor, according to multiple sources familiar with the package, but the untitled drama is set to be written by author and journalist Nick Bilton, who helmed the 2021 HBO documentary “Fake Famous.”
Johnson and Blunt, who previously worked together on “Jungle Cruise,” brought the project to Scorsese and DiCaprio, and once they expressed interest, they all went to Bilton to ask him about writing.

Exclusive: The hot package in town is a pitch for a Martin Scorsese-directed untitled drama that would star Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt.
The thumbnail description: Imagine Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent character from Goodfellas, but as a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, based on a real figure, who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime in Hawaii.
To be written by Nick Bilton, the film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. It was a bloody battle, the kind of terrain Scorsese covered in both Goodfellas and The Departed. In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands’ most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land.

When Clint Eastwood became a familiar face to U.S. television viewers via his portrayal of ramrod Rowdy Yates in the CBS Western drama "Rawhide," no one save for maybe his mother saw his handsome mug on their television screen and said, "This man is going to be a transformational figure in motion pictures." No one could've predicted that he'd fly to Spain during his 1964 hiatus from "Rawhide" and make a one-of-a-kind Western with an upstart Italian director named Sergio Leone, thus launching an entire subgenre that would turn him into an international movie star. They certainly couldn't have guessed that he'd also redefine the cop film as a due-process-flouting hardass named Harry Callahan. And then to become a celebrated filmmaker in his own right? Crazy talk.

We’ve all seen or heard about Romeo & Juliet. It’s one of the most eminent love stories ever written. But while the authentic play is a classic, it’s also been done a million times. Shakespeare’s version is full of fancy old English, dramatic monologues, and a bleak ending that makes you want to yell at the screen.
But what if we told you there’s a new version of Romeo & Juliet coming that’s absolutely different? A version that’s modern, stimulating, and full of music that actually slaps? That’s exactly what Verona’s Romeo & Juliet is bringing to the table.
This remake is a pop musical—think Moulin Rouge! meets Hamilton but with the greatest love story of all time at its heart. And it isn’t even based on Shakespeare’s play. Instead, it tells the real-life story from 1301 that inspired...
