Sex & Nudity

  • Some sexual references.
  • A character talks about being sexually abused as a child (being taught how to French kiss, "among other things") and acting out sexually.
  • Mentions of prostitution.
  • A man and woman are playing in a bathtub. It isn't sexual and although they are both naked, nothing is shown.

Violence & Gore

  • There are themes relating to a murder, but the actual scene is quick cut, and not graphic. There is a brief image of blood on the floor next to a dying/dead man, and there is talk of cutting up a corpse to dispose of it.

Profanity

  • About 30-40 f-words.
  • Several homophobic slurs.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Ecstasy, Ketamine, and cocaine are used frequently and in a casual manner throughout the film.
  • Several characters are shown overdosing or experiencing drug withdrawal.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Characters wear some bizarre and sexualized outfits on occasion.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The murder scene is also intercut with a scene in which James St. James has a hallucination of a rat describing the murder in a comically over-the-top New York accent, which adds to the overall dark and bizarre atmosphere of this particular part of the film, and the rest of the movie in general.
  • There is one scene at the end where Alig is shown killing his drug dealer with a friend. It might be disturbing for some to see blood and to see the fact that a man was beaten to death with a hammer. The description of cutting up a body might also be disturbing.
