New Kaley Cuoco TV show gets exciting announcement from Amazon
Image
If you have been a fan of Kaley Cuoco since meeting her on 8 Simple Rules or The Big Bang Theory, you're going to be over the moon about the latest news about the Emmy-nominated star's next television role. Following the unfortunate cancellation of her underrated Peacock comedy-mystery series Based on a True Story, Cuoco has already set her next project at Amazon.

Back in March, Cuoco boarded the mystery thriller series Vanished, and the series officially has a release window and a streaming home. On May 6, Deadline reported that Amazon officially picked up the rights to the new series in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Prime Video will release the series in 2026.

Obviously, there's a glaring omission in the territories where Amazon snagged the rights. What about the United States? That hasn't been announced quite yet, but it's extremely likely that Vanished will wind up...

Vanished: Kaley Cuoco to star in mystery thriller series
Image
Kaley Cuoco has been a steady presence on our TV screens for decades at this point, and when one show goes away, it doesn’t take long for her to find a new show to star in. She was in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules, which ran from 2002 to 2005, then moved on to the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2019. She followed that with the comedy thriller show The Flight Attendant, 2020 to 2022, and then the dark comedy show Based on a True Story, which aired in 2023 and 2024. Now, Variety reports that she has signed on to star in a mystery thriller series called Vanished, which is scheduled to begin filming on April 28th. Locations will include Paris and Marseilles.

Cuoco is joined in the cast by Sam Claflin (Daisy Jones & The Six), Karin Viard (The Bélier Family), and Matthias Schweighöfer (Army of the Dead). The show will...

The Legacy TV Series That Quietly Launched The NCIS Universe
Image
When "NCIS" premiered on CBS during the fall television season of 2003 (initially as "Navy: NCIS), there was good reason to expect it would be a solid performer for the network. Created by noted TV hitmaker Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, the military procedural entered the marketplace during a moment of extreme war hawkishness in the United States, which was taking out its 9/11 frustrations on Iraq for reasons we now know were extremely dubious. Many viewers were amped up about anything relating to Americans in uniform, and they already loved crime-of-the-week dramas, so surely this would hit one if not both sweet spots.

"NCIS" also had the good fortune to land prime Tuesday night real estate at 8 Pm, where ABC and NBC were struggling to make some direly unfunny sitcoms work (like "8 Simple Rules" and "Whoopi"). The WB had solid niche performer "Gilmore Girls," while Fox would have the...

Tim Allen Reveals if 'Home Improvement' Alum Jonathan Taylor Thomas Will Make 'Shifting Gears' Cameo
Image
Could there be an on-screen reunion for Home Improvement father and son duo Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas in the works? Don't count it out. Allen, whose latest sitcom, Shifting Gears, premiered on January 8, said "everything is a possibility" when speaking to US Weekly about potentially sharing the screen with Thomas again for his latest project. Allen and Thomas famously co-starred on Home Improvement for 8 seasons from 1991 to 1999. The two reunited again in 2013 for the Allen led-Last Man Standing, with Thomas appearing in four episodes (from 2013 to 2015) and directing three.

"Everything is a possibility. He just came back [to the last episode we filmed]. He showed up on the set. He's literally my kid. I raised that kid for eight years on Home Improvement. All of these are my kids, and I'm kind of sick about this."

Allen's last statement seems to reference his Home Improvement co-star, Zachery Ty Bryan, who portrayed oldest sibling, Brad.

Before ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ Kaley Cuoco Had Her Big Break on This TV Sitcom
Image
For years now, Kaley Cuoco has been making viewers laugh with her varied roles in television and film, The Big Bang Theory being among her most well-known. In it, she played Penny, the sarcastic but lovable neighbor of Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons). As popular as The Big Bang Theory was – and how it launched her into superstardom – it’s actually not the show that gave Cuoco her big break. That honor belongs to the sitcom 8 Simple Rules, in which Kaley Cuoco first got to test out her comedic chops.

How Much Did Kaley Cuoco Make for Each 'Big Bang Theory' Episode?
Image
The Big Bang Theory is one of the best and most popular sitcoms of modern television. The geeky, Pasadena version of Friends or Seinfeld, this series follows a group of nerdy, socially awkward friends and coworkers -- and their one really hot friend across the hall. We're talking, of course, about Penny, the waitress and aspiring actress who's played by Kaley Cuoco. The Big Bang Theory ran for an impressive 12 seasons, an eternity in TV land, running from 2007 to 2019. (What would Sheldon have thought about the Covid-19 pandemic? We wonder).

The show's tremendous success birthed an entire franchise, which includes the prequel series Young Sheldon and its spin-off series about Sheldon's older brother, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. A fourth series is reportedly in development for Max, which will thrust supporting character Stuart into the spotlight and will follow him, his girlfriend Denise, and geologist Bert Kibbler.

The Big Bang Theory's Penny Doesn't Need A Young Sheldon-Style Spinoff, Because Kaley Cuoco Gave Us "Young Penny" 22 Years Ago
Image
The Big Bang Theory universe can no longer do a Young Penny spinoff because Kaley Cuoco has already done something similar. Unlike the usual reason for cancelations, CBS ended The Big Bang Theory not because of the lack of interest from the public. Instead, it wrapped up its run because Jim Parsons decided to leave the show as Sheldon Cooper. Luckily, Chuck Lorre and the rest of the team found a way to continue capitalizing on The Big Bang Theory's popularity with Young Sheldon, which tackled Sheldon's childhood in Texas before moving to California.

After The Big Bang Theory's finale in 2019, the franchise thrived for five more years with Young Sheldon. What started as supplementary viewing for the nerd-centric sitcom ended up being a hit show on its own, as Sheldon and the rest of the family immediately became fan-favorites. The prequel differentiated itself from its parent...

Based On A True Story Cast & Character Guide
Image
The cast of Peacock's Based on a True Story gives stellar performances, particularly the two leads playing characters involved in a true-crime podcast. The comedy thriller tells the story of a couple who decide to directly profit from a serial killer in their area by starting a podcast about him. To make the show unique, the podcasters choose to interview the murderer with the agreement that he does not kill anyone else while doing the podcast. The series forces viewers to examine where the line is between entertainment and exploitation.

Despite its heavy central question, Based on a True Story maintains a lighthearted tone throughout the show. The actors help achieve this balance between serious thriller and dark comedy approaches to the story. One of the main actors, Kaley Cuoco, performs well in her role due to her own passion for true-crime content (via Glamour). Along with Cuoco, the cast...

Kaley Cuoco's Crime Show Debuts With Perfect Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Kaley Cuoco's crime show has debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score for season 2. While she has many credits to her name, Cuoco is best known for playing Penny in all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, in which she brought many of the funniest and most heartfelt scenes to life throughout the CBS sitcom's run. Penny's friendship with Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) became a particularly celebrated element of the series. Prior to The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco played Bridget Hennessy in the ABC sitcom 8 Simple Rules.

After The Big Bang Theory ended, Cuoco starred in and produced HBO's The Flight Attendant. The series blended elements of dark comedy and drama as Cuoco's complex character, Cassie Bowden, worked to solve mysterious murders while navigating her own struggles with alcoholism. “He loved john as much as I did”: Kaley Cuoco Revealed Only 1 Other The Big Bang Theory Star Had a Personal Connection to TV Legend John Ritter Like She Did

Before her tenure in The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco was notable for her stint in 8 Simple Rules, in which she starred opposite sitcom icon John Ritter, who played Cuoco’s onscreen father Paul. However, their bond wasn’t confined to their gigs on the show, as Cuoco has continued to gush about her time with the actor, who tragically passed away in 2003.

Although her connection with Ritter would come in handy during one guest star’s appearance in The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco wasn’t the lone Tbbt cast that shared a personal bond with the TV legend.

The Big Bang Theory Wanted To Cast A Legenday Musician As Howard Wolowitz's Father
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

During the 12 season run of "The Big Bang Theory," the audience meet the main characters' parents and extended families from time to time — and those parents and family members are usually played by some pretty big performers. Laurie Metcalf plays Mary Cooper, mother to Jim Parsons' Sheldon Cooper, and Tony and Emmy Award winner Christine Baranski also shows up a few times as Leonard's mother Dr. Beverly Hofstadter. Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) parents are played by Katey Sagal (in a nod to Cuoco and Sagal's sitcom "8 Simple Rules") and Keith Carradine.

So, what about Howard Wolowitz, played by Simon Helberg? We hear his mother Mrs. Wolowitz off-screen — she's voiced by Carol Ann Susi, who passed away in 2014, as did the character — but we never meet his dad. According to Jessica Radloff's book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive,...

ABC Signature’s Shutdown Ends 4-Decade Legacy: From ‘Golden Girls’ To ‘Lost’, ‘Black-Ish’ & ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Image
Disney’s long-expected move to fold ABC Signature into 20th Television brings to an end the media conglom’s in-house TV studio, which started off as Touchstone Television a decade before Disney bought ABC, subsequently being renamed ABC Studios and more recently ABC Signature.

Launched in 1985, Touchstone TV’s first major hit was Golden Girls, which ran on NBC for seven seasons. Other successful series from that era include Blossom, also for NBC, and Home Improvement, Ellen and Boy Meets World for ABC.

In the first years after ABC became part of Disney, Touchstone Television continued to sell to all networks — which is how 20th Television operated for its entire run at Fox — with shows such as Felicity and Popular for the WB and The PJs for Fox/WB.

The studio gradually shifted its attention to its own network, supplying it with series such as Once And Again, My Wife And Kids,...

“Based on what? That Kaley is blonde?”: Johnny Galecki Was Not Happy When The Big Bang Theory Was Compared to a Legendary 70s Sitcom But Was More Than Okay With the Friends Comparison

The Big Bang Theory presented a stunning ensemble of actors. But in the world of television, where shows are premiered every now and then, comparisons are inevitable. The same happened to Tbbt as well in a past interview. Interestingly, the show was being compared to the likes of other sitcoms such as Three’s Company and Friends.

But while Johnny Galecki welcomed the Friends comparisons, he looked quite annoyed when Tbbt was compared with the John Ritter starrer.

Johnny Galecki Looked Visibly Annoyed With Three’s Company Comparisons With Tbbt, but Not Friends

After Friends ended in 2004, people thought for the longest time that no other show could level up to the benchmark it had created in the genre. But The Big Bang Theory, released in 2007, shifted that perspective to a good extent. Fans will have their own...

Many were also hoping to see Jamie Lee Curtis bring the character to life, and Curtis let it be known that she would be lobbying to play the part… but it didn’t work out. Deadline reports that Curtis wasn’t able to fit the show into her schedule, since working on it would have required her to spend a couple of months in South Africa, where filming is taking place. So instead of Curtis, the role has gone to Katey Sagal, who is best known for the roles she has played on Married… with Children, 8 Simple Rules,...

Seven of the dozen actors on this roster took the gold for at least one of their nominated roles. This includes Richard Mulligan and Michael J. Emmy mystery solved: How often do the deaths of characters lead to wins?
Image
If you’re not caught up on your peak TV viewing, consider this your spoiler warning. Four months have passed since Jennifer Coolidge bagged her second consecutive Emmy for “The White Lotus” and thus became the eighth drama or comedy series regular honored by the TV academy for a season in which her character died. Emmy nominations of this kind have become quite common in recent years, and it’s possible that over 15% of the 2024 lead and supporting continuing series contenders will be added to the list.

The current consensus among more than 2,400 Gold Derby users is that five continuing series performers whose characters perished within the past year will receive Emmy nominations, while a few others have outside shots at recognition. This does not include characters like Anakin Skywalker who died before their shows’ latest seasons began but appear as ghosts or in flashbacks. Undead characters like most of...

‘Sons Of Anarchy’ First Couple Kurt Sutter & Katey Sagal Rev Their First Podcast ‘Pie’
Image
Exclusive: Kurt Sutter and Katey Sagal have teamed up for their first podcast, Pie. People. Influences. Experiences. The program will start April 2, available on all podcast players and YouTube.

They describe Pie as an intimate parlor conversation exploring the ingredients that “baked up” each guest. It is a respectful, deep dive into nature and nurture — family, faith, friends, hometowns, schooling, mentors, tormentors, etc. It will be the heart-to-heart chat that gives us some authentic insight into each guest’s personal and professional choices — in the arts, athletics, healthcare, politics, etc.

I can testify that between them, this couple can cover a healthy span of topics. A few years back, I convinced Sutter to co-live blog the Emmys for Deadline. Only when I arrived at their home did I learn that Kurt had been so busy as the writer, director and producer of my fave FX series Sons of Anarchy, that...

John Ritter's Buffy The Vampire Slayer Character Was A First For The Series
Image
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a major moment in vampire media, but the show didn't limit itself to fanged heartthrobs. Buffy fought her fair share of demons and deities, but there was one type of villain that kept popping up throughout the hit series' seven seasons — robots. Probably the most memorable robot in the show is the Buffybot, a robot girlfriend commissioned by bad-boy vamp Spike to quench his unrequited crush. But before Buffybot, the android that started it all was Ted.

Ted is, by all appearances, your run-of-the-mill middle-aged man from suburbia, and he's dating Buffy's mom in the season 2 episode "Ted." He manages to win all of her friends over, but Buffy isn't having it. As it turns out, her suspicions are proven correct — Ted was a killer robot all along.

The robot is played by John Ritter, who was best known for the long-running sitcoms "Three's Company" and,...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From The Waltons
Image
"Good night, John-Boy. Good night, Elizabeth. And good night, daddy. Good night, son. And good night, mama. Good night, Mary Ellen. Good night, Jim Bob." Even if you've never watched a single moment of the classic TV show "The Waltons," the impact the series has had on television continues on even to this day. With the series' roots stemming back all the way to one of the most hated episodes of "The Twilight Zone" in history, references to "The Waltons" have extended all the way to films like 2016's "The Nice Guys," where Matt Bomber's villainous Dr. Malek is given the code name "John Boy" as he shares a similar facial birthmark to John-Boy actor Richard Thomas.

Created by Earl Hamner Jr., "The Waltons" centered on the titular family in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II, based on Hamner Jr.'s book "Spencer's Mountain." With a...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds
Image
Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 classic "The Birds" is a staple of Hollywood cinema, and it had to age a bit to earn its spot in the canon. The film only earned one Oscar nomination for special effects, but it is easily one of the most well-remembered works in the accomplished director's oeuvre. Almost half a century has passed since the film's release and many of its main actors are no longer with us. Most of them went on to have storied careers, some of them were already established figures of the entertainment industry, but unfortunately only two of them are still alive today.

Her character Melanie barely survives "The Birds," but Tippi Hedren is one of two stars in the film that has lived to see the 2020s. Hedren worked with Hitchcock again on his thriller "Marnie," but did not have much of a career afterwards. She did go on to...

Futurama Secretly Recast 2 Of Its Most Important Characters
Image
Futurama's original intention was to cast Charles Schlatter and Nicole Sullivan as Fry and Leela, but Billy West and Katey Sagal ended up being the perfect fit. Despite confusion surrounding the change in casting, West and Sagal delivered committed and hilariously dedicated performances throughout Futurama's 11 seasons. While it's unclear why the recasting occurred, the decision ultimately paid off, as evidenced by Futurama's enduring success and the return of the show for season 11.

At the start of Futurama's complicated but critically acclaimed run, two of the series' most important characters were quietly recast. Amid a history of cancelations, revivals, and syndication, Futurama has persisted as a favorite among adult animation shows and was awarded with many prominent award nominations. Futurama is attributed to the mind of The Simpsons' star creator Matt Groening, but all of Futurama's working parts can assume responsibility for the series' iconic status and undeniable success.

If he scores his second victory, he will make history as the first deceased male actor to win an Emmy for a continuing program.

“Call Me Kat” was the first and only multi-season series on which Jordan played a regular role.
