According to new McKinsey & Company research, there are over 62 million Latinos living in the United States who not only account for more than $3 trillion of Gdp but are also avid consumers of film and TV. US Latinos account for 24 percent of box office ticket sales and 24 percent of streaming subscribers. Yet somehow, there still aren't enough Latines behind and in front of the camera even though our viewership doubles when we see ourselves represented on or off screen.
Today, we still don't have enough TV programming that accurately represents us - and the few shows that have been created for us and by us, like "Vida," "One Day at a Time," "Promised Land," and "Gentefied," were eventually all canceled despite their popularity. Among these many cancellations was Dominican American creator Claudia Forestieri's beloved "Gordita Chronicles," which was released in June 2022 on HBO Max and was canceled after just one season.

Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast!
I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline. Today I’m chatting with Mayan Lopez, co-creator, writer, co-executive producer and star of the NBC comedy Lopez vs. Lopez. The series starring Mayan, George Lopez and Selenis Leyva returns for its second season April 2.
Mayan plays a fictional version of herself, a modern Gen Z daughter working to rebuild her dysfunctional relationship with her old-school Latino father. She conceptualized the series from her TikTok content, which she used as a creative outlet during the pandemic.
Lopez made her television debut in Season 6 of The George Lopez Show, later participating in the conservatory program at Second City and the Columbia College Comedy Writing and Performance Program in Chicago. Her credits have since included Handsome: A Netflix Murder Mystery, Other People, Jersey and Mr. Troop Mom.

Sandra Bullock starred in the 2013 sci-fi feature Gravity, which ended up being one of the star’s most successful features. But Bullock was worried the feature that would become such a huge highlight in her career showed early signs of being a flop.

Gravity was a 2013 feature directed by Alfonso Cuaron about a medical engineer who finds herself stranded in space. And given that a large amount of time would be spent in space, Cuaron found the feature difficult to make than he realized. Gathering the technology and the crew capable of executing the director’s intended vision was a tall order that Cuaron underestimated.
“The thing is, I’m not a technological person,” Cuaron once told The Guardian. “When I finished the screenplay, I thought: ‘We can do this in about a year.

The cast of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Blue Beetle has increased by one, with pop star Becky G signing on to provide the voice of Khaji-Da. The studio’s official casting announcement included the following description of Khaji-Da:
“In the film, Khaji-Da is a beautiful relic of ancient alien biotechnology. The palm-sized obsidian-like Scarab is one of the most powerful artifacts in the universe, pulsing with iridescent streaks of bluish and purple. Jaime comes across it quite by accident, but once it has chosen him as a host, the Scarab bestows Jaime with a suit that is both organic and technological, and a symbiotic connection transforms the college grad into the almighty Super Hero Blue Beetle.”

On the NBC comedy Cheers, George Wendt often stole the show as Norm. Norm was Cheers’ most loyal regular. Every episode when he entered the whole bar shouted his name, and he had a different one liner for every entrance. Cheers ended in 1993 after 11 seasons and Wendt has been busy ever since.

In the 20 years since the premiere of “George Lopez,” the groundbreaking Latino-led series has never been off the air, living on in syndication and through NBC’s new series “Lopez vs. Lopez,” which follows along in its tradition while also forging its own path.
In the freshman comedy’s Christmas-themed episode, Mayan and George Lopez (who play versions of themselves as a daughter-father duo) excavate familial conflicts and generational divides, navigating and healing their relationship as parent and adult child. With the backdrop of Nochebuena, there’s also a “reunion” within the extended family, portrayed by “George Lopez” OGs Constance Marie, Valente Rodriguez, Belita Moreno and Luis Armand Garcia, who guest star.
“We would have loved to have a reboot, but there are just some things internally that just don’t make it possible,” Mayan Lopez told TheWrap. “And so in a way, we were like, ‘We want to pay...

Call Me Kat will say goodbye to Phil, played by Leslie Jordan, next month.
Fox announced this week that the special episode will air Thursday, December 1 at 9:30/8:30c.
Deadline revealed Thursday that Jordan's former Cool Kids castmate Vicki Lawrence will appear in an upcoming episode as Phil's mother, Lurlene Crumpler.
“We know the spirit of Phil will certainly be with her,” executive producer Jim Patterson tells Deadline.
“It’s going to be fun to have that character doing some of the same in-jokes we did when Phil was there."
Lawrence is set to appear in one episode at this stage but could appear in more episodes down the line.
News of Jordan's final episode comes just weeks after the tragic news of his passing following a car accident.
“There aren’t words to convey the loss we are experiencing as a cast and a Call Me Kat family.

George Lopez has a long history with television comedy series. The George Lopez Show was a big success on ABC, but later sitcoms like Saint George and Lopez had much shorter lifespans. Now, he's back with a new show on NBC and is joined by his real-life daughter. Will Lopez vs. Lopez be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

Producer Debby Wolfe was, like the rest of us, “feeding her TikTok addiction” one morning at 3 a.m. when she happened to stumble upon Mayan Lopez on her For You Page.
“The video that I saw was, like, where she was revealing these sordid details of her parents’ divorce, and she was twerking the entire time,” Wolfe recalled during an interview with TheWrap. “And I was like, ‘This is a show’ … There was this Gen Z Latina, and she’s unafraid to call out her Boomer father for bad parenting. And it was just so raw and honest and hilarious that the vision for the show just immediately hit me.”
That’s the basis for NBC’s “Lopez vs. Lopez,” which premieres its pilot episode Friday night. Drawing from the real lives of father-daughter duo George and Mayan Lopez, the sitcom explores family dysfunction and reunion through a distinctly Latinx lens.

The first TV series adapted from a TikTok is upon us, though it’s also rooted in a groundbreaking Latino show from the early 2000s.
The premiere of NBC’s “Lopez vs. Lopez” on Nov. 4 will bring George Lopez back to broadcast network comedy 15 years after the conclusion of his self-titled ABC series. This time, he’s sharing the soundstage with his daughter, Mayan Lopez. They star as a father and a daughter working to repair their relationship in a fictionalized version of their own experience.
Mayan and George hadn’t been on regular speaking terms for nearly a decade because of his infidelity and eventual split from her mother. But when the pandemic hit, their worry for George, who is immunocompromised, unexpectedly brought the whole family back together — and Mayan couldn’t help chronicling it on social media.

"I am an actress, writer, and producer, as well as a content creator," Mayan Lopez tells Popsugar when asked to define herself. She's got a new show on NBC this fall, "Lopez vs. Lopez," which she both stars in and produces. Mayan jokes the sitcom is "trying to put the 'fun' back in 'family dysfunction'" by telling the story of a young woman coming into her own and reconciling with her estranged father. Her real-life father, comedian George Lopez, stars alongside her, playing the show's TV dad. Talk about a full-circle moment.

Let me start this column off by saying, I love Dwayne Johnson. I mean, who doesn’t love The Rock? We’ve been smelling what he’s been cooking for nearly 25 years.
And yet, it was quite deflating to see the recent report “The Prevalence and Portrayal of Asian and Pacific Islanders Across 1,300 Films,” which found that just 44 of those films featured an Api lead or co-star. And in particular, that one-third of those 44 was just one person: You guessed it, The Rock.
I think Johnson would be the first to tell you that he’s just one person with one perspective, and that when it comes to on-screen portrayals, he can’t begin to represent the mixed plate that is the Asian American and Pacific Islander population in the United States.
“I can’t stress enough that Asian American Pacific Islander culture is not one size fits all; it’s not a monolith,...

Martinez is Jorge Diaz Sr. He’s a hug in human form, a loving and caring father and husband, even if he has gotten a bit too comfortable in his relationship.

Roth is slated to step down in early 2021. He and WarnerMedia studios and networks group chief Ann Sarnoff had been discussing the transition for “some time,” per a statement from Sarnoff, adding that there’s “never a great moment to say goodbye.”
“He’s delivered hundreds of shows, thousands of episodes and millions of viewers, with one singular vision – to work with the best people and to make the best television series,” said Sarnoff. “In addition to being well respected by his colleagues and competitors, actors, writers, directors and producers, he is the force behind iconic, pop-culture-defining television shows we all know and love, including ‘The West Wing,’ ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ ‘Gilmore Girls,’ ‘Two And A Half Men,’ ‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘Supernatural,’ ‘The Flash’ and countless others.

Exclusive: Lucifer star Aimee Garcia has signed to executive produce and star in Match Me If You Can, a romantic comedy about the world of dating in today’s geek culture. Marian Yeager is directing the pic from a script by Betsy Morris.
Garcia, who is set to reprise her role as Ella Lopez in the sixth and final season of Netflix’s Lucifer, will play Kip Parsons, a talented computer nerd who is rejected by an online dating service as “unmatchable.” After her online blog about her humiliating status goes viral, Kip quickly becomes the reluctant spokesperson for all the frustrated singles out there. There’s just one problem: the dating service swears they didn’t reject her and she becomes the target of a kangaroo court.
Yeager and Monica Lund are producing the project via My Productions (The Conway Curve), with Garcia and Stacey Parks serving as executive producers.

Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service set to be available across the U.S. starting July 15, will be available on Google platforms and devices including Android, Android TVs, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices at launch, the media company announced.
Under the pact, Android and Android TV users will receive complimentary access to Peacock Premium (with ads) through Oct. 15, 2020.
So far, NBCU has announced Peacock deals with Apple and Microsoft’s Xbox — but has not yet clinched deals with the two biggest over-the-top device players, Roku and Amazon Fire TV (which are both holding out on HBO Max).
In April, Peacock’s “early preview” rolled out to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Flex customers at no additional cost.
On July 15, Peacock is set to launch wide in several versions: There’s a free, ad-supported tier featuring with more than 7,500 hours of movies, shows, and programming across news, sports, reality and late night.

NBC Universal's Peacock will open its doors in April for a select group of people, before having a full-fledged launch in July, it has been announced.
Comcast's Xfinity X1 and Flex customers will get early access to the service beginning Wednesday, April 15, while everyone else will be able to stream effective July 15.

Another modern-classic sitcom has found its streaming home — but it’s not going to the home that produced it. “Two and a Half Men” will stream exclusively on NBCUniversal’s forthcoming streaming service, Peacock, the platform announced during a Comcast investor event in New York on Thursday.
