- The French 2-Disc Special Edition entitled 'Les Lois De L'Attraction' is the longest possible version available. It has a couple of scenes not in the UK & US DVDs and also includes more of the suicide scene (including the girl actually cutting into her wrists, instead of just seeing her reaction) It also includes more relevant commentary tracks than the other DVD's available.
- The multi-region UK blu-ray release is the complete, uncut version (as the 2-disc French release). It is unknown as to whether this was a mistake or not, as there are no details on the BBFC website.
- At least one broadcast on British TV removed the girl's suicide entirely, cutting the scene just before she begins slitting her wrist, straight to the subsequent close-up of the dripping tap. This removed the girl's reaction, and caused a very abrupt fade-out of the music. This is far more than the BBFC removed (only the close up of the wrist-slitting) from the DVD/ Home video version.
- As mentioned above, the suicide scene is edited in the R-rated release. Also edited: 1) the rape scene in the beginning, where the footage of the rapist vomiting on his semi-conscious victim is cut to make it a bit less obvious and disgusting; also removed is some additional footage of the film student taping the rape. 2) When a cover of the porn magazine "Cumshot Review" is shown, it is blurred so nothing is identifiable. 3) Footage from a porn movie Paul is watching uses alternate footage to reduce the degree of sexuality. 4) A part of the tracking shot at the beginning of the "Dressed to get screwed" party is cut. 5) The flashback of the rape scene from the beginning of the film is edited in conformity with the original scene, thus missing the explicit vomit here as well.
- The original rating that Lions Gate received from the MPAA was an NC-17, but director Roger Avary made some cuts and received an R. Unrated version may be released outside the US and on DVD.
- Australian releases of the film are uncut and retain the 22 seconds that were cut to receive an R rating in the US.
- The version released on video/DVD in the UK was heavily cut (even with an 18 cert) for the suicide sequence:
- To obtain this category cuts of 1m 34s were required., some or all of these cuts were substitutions. The cuts were Compulsory.
- A cut was required to a scene in which a teenage girl slits her wrists, on the grounds that the technique used is not widely known and is potentially more likely to result in death than the more common method, in line with the Video Recordings Act 1984, and BBFC Guidelines and Policy
