Comic-book adaptations seem to be all the rage these days. There is almost always one of them on screen at theaters at any given time. I must admit that i do enjoy the genre quite a bit. Also, the quality of these comic-book adaptations are usually quite high. Which makes the less well made stand out even more...
I like the character Daredevil. While i'm no fan of comic books i can still enjoy them sometimes, and Daredevil is definitely one of my favorite characters. A blind acrobatic maniac who is a bit more tough and to-the-point than many other similar characters. This movie however does very little to do Daredevil justice.
To start off with the problems (and there are quite a few) Ben Affleck is his usual bland self. I swear that man couldn't express emotion to save his life. Then the character-development is nearly non-existent. We find out almost nothing about the Daredevil and how he came to be a lawyer or as insanely rich as he seems to be. We do get a short and fast backstory to why he became a crime-fighter, but that's all. This is a problem however that continues throughout the film, the story segments seem rushed. A bit more time spent building the characters and giving the story a bit more sense would have helped.
And what pieces of this mess are less of a problem? Well, Colin Farrell is fun as the villain "Bulls-eye". And i'm sure some people will like the action scenes, although i found them lacking.
In the end Daredevil is a failure. It's far far away from such successful adaptations as Spider-Man and X-men. The comic-book feeling just never goes more than skin-deep. Also the movie looks expensive, but it feels like the director never really knew what to do with all the money. A shame since the character deserved better. I rate this 3/10.
