For most performers, building up a resume of over 150 projects is something that takes an entire lifetime to achieve, but for James Franco that is a feat he has accomplished at just 45 years old. This Freaky Geek was catapulted to fame in one of biggest comic book franchises of all time before settling in to his role as a performer who can take on any genre and any film no matter how big or small. But with a tremendous rise at such a young age, sometimes you don’t make the best decisions. For Franco, those bad decisions would come to light on the very night of his greatest professional achievement and begin a downfall that is sadly all too common in today’s world. The jokes will extend well past April 1st on HBO and HBO Max.
“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.
“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.
On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

In addition, the Titans mid-season premiere arrives on April 13. HBO Max offers this description of the fourth and final season’s remaining episodes: “The Titans – with the exception of Gar – are returned to the Temple of Trigon and rush to find Sebastian and Mother Mayhem before Sebastian summons Trigon. In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Henry Winkler stars as Cousineau, Barry’s acting teacher and the man forced to confront the reality of his former student.

Season 2 of “The Deuce” is now debuting on HBO. The series stars James Franco, who also produces the program and directs some episodes. He has developed a pretty notable resume since he first came to audience’s attention on the low rated but highly acclaimed TV series “Freaks and Geeks.”
A year after that NBC show ended, Franco found fame in a highly praised TV biography of James Dean for which he won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy award. That success led Franco to a film career which has run the gamut from superhero blockbusters to Oscar nominated prestige films.
It hasn’t all been a smooth ride for Franco though. In 2010 he should have been at the peak of his profession since he had just received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor for the film “127 Hours.” Unfortunately for Franco, he agreed to act...

James Franco is one of the six names in entertainment being celebrated at the inaugural IndieWire Honors on Nov. 2. His vision as a filmmaker and actor is showcased in “The Disaster Artist” as well as HBO’s “The Deuce,” and he’s receiving the Vanguard Award for film. Seth Rogen, who produced “The Disaster Artist” and has been friends with Franco for years, shares his thoughts here on collaborating with his actor friend:
So, before I start this story, I just wanna say that, first, I get that it kind of has an element of me, like, explaining that I thought of a funny joke. So I get that. I’m not, like, oblivious to that. But it’s mostly a story about how great Franco is and what he taught me and all that, so just hang tight.

San Francisco is the City by the Sea where Tony Bennett left his heart. To those who lived through the Swinging Sixties it is most familiar as the birthplace of the hippies — who went to San Francisco with flowers in their hair urging people to “make love not war”. There is so much to see and do in San Fran, from the notorious Alcatraz Prison sitting on the rock across the bay to watching the hundreds of sea lions that have made the pallets and pontoons floating off Pier 39 their home. A startling portrait of girls at risk, with a magnificent performance by gonna-be-a-star Letitia Wright. Lovely, moving, utterly unsentimental. I’m “biast” (pro): desperate for movies about girls and women

When she turns 18 in nine months, Jamie Harrison will be thrown out of the London group home for troubled kids she’s been living in for years: she will be presumed to be capable to taking care of herself. It terrifies her, which isn’t surprising. Nor is it surprising that she has a very difficult time accepting the helping hand that comes in the form of a new social worker in the house, Kate Linton. When Kate, who has been desperate to make a connection with the girl, discovers Jamie’s not-so-secret talent — she’s an amazing singer, with a taste for Etta James...

Howdy ladies and gentleman For this week’s spotlight piece, I wanted to go ahead and take a look at a rather unique A-lister. Someone who vacillates between humongous Hollywood blockbusters and odd little independent films, always doing his own thing. The A-lister in question? None other than James Franco. He’s many things to many people, but he’s unquestionably a star. He’s given a few incredibly good performances, but he’s never a boring actor to watch. He’s easily one of Tinseltown’s most interesting actors to follow. Almost constantly engaging in some form of art, Franco is at his core, just that…an artist. He may be a bit of a weirdo to some, but he’s an A-lister regardless and deserves this tribute. Franco wasn’t always considered a “weird” star. He got his start basically as a heartthrob. He first came on to...

Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, with the Coens on writing duty.
Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
Director Jolie began shooting some of the most dramatic and challenging scenes on Wednesday, October 16, on location far out at sea in Moreton Bay, Australia, with Zamperini (O’Connell) and his fellow airmen—Phil (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mac (Finn Wittrock)—having impossibly survived being adrift in the open Pacific for several weeks.

Ericson Core ("Invincible") has come on board to direct indie action crime caper "Youngstown Boys" reports Variety.
The true story follows the biggest bank heist in U.S. history which took place in 1972 in Laguna Beach, California. A gang of thieves from Ohio set out to steal $30 million in illegal campaign contributions and blackmail money from President Nixon.
The thieves however went to the wrong bank, hitting a United California Bank instead of Nixon's home Bank of America branch. Making off with an estimated $12 million, seven of the eight conspirators were quickly caught but the getaway driver was able to flee and wasn't arrested until 1980.
Ken Hixon ("Welcome to the Rileys, City by the Sea") penned the most recent version of the script while Anthony Mastromauro is producing.

As if the scope of AMC dramas weren't epic enough between meth labs, '60s advertising and the zombie apocalypse, now we're going back to the old west.
Today AMC debuts the first trailer from its forthcoming western epic Hell On Wheels, which tells the story of a former Confederate soldier seeking revenge on the Union troops who killed his family, set against the backdrop of the post-Civil War construction of the first Transcontinental railroad. And if the ever-increasing scope of AMC dramas is anything of a pattern, we're in for some seriously true grit.
The series, which debuts its ten-episode first season in Fall 2011 stars Anson Mount as Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon, as well as rapper Common as freed slave Elam and former Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine star Colm Meaney as big boss man Durant.

For most actors, getting a regular gig on a television show or a film series is a boon, because essentially you can make enough money that you will never have to work again. The problem is - most actors want to work again. When you've been playing an iconic character for years, it's hard for people to separate you from that work, and so most actors will take on really radically different roles. And it tends to be a mixed bag as to how that turns out. You look at someone like Sarah Michelle Gellar, who hasn't done a whole hell of a lot since she hung up her stakes. Or the casts of "Friends" or "Seinfeld," who hasn't really been able to shake those enigmatic personas - aside from maybe one or two small interesting roles here or there. And things don't really bode too well for any of the children from Harry Potter,...

Here’s the trailer for Welcome to the Rileys, written by Ken Hixon (City by the Sea) and directed by Jake “Ridley’s son” Scott, starring Kristen Stewart, James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo.
Watch below (courtesy of Yahoo!):
I’ve watched this trailer twice. The first time I spend the majority of it rolling my eyes. Another indie about a broken family? Really? Then, on second viewing, there does seem to be something to offer.
Firstly, the casting is interesting – Gandolfini and Leo especially, as a couple. Secondly, the setting – New Orleans – and, mostly, the idea that this strange girl (Stewart) Gandolfini’s character finds could be the answer to all of their grief. Sure, it’s been done before.
But maybe not like this?
Welcome to the Rileys opens in limited release on November 5th.
Are you excited for this film? What do you think of the trailer?...

Welcome to the Rileys premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year, and it wasn't that bad of a film. This is the movie where Twilight's Kristen Stewart plays a prostitute/stripper. This movie is going show off another side of Stewart in hopes that people will take her seriously as an actress. Who would of thought you had to play a whore to get some respect? Oh wait, this is Hollywood.
The movie was directed by music video director Jake Scott, whose directed some classic music videos such as Rem’s Everybody Hurts, Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees, The Cranberries’ When You’re Gone, as well as videos for Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins, Live, Blind Melon, The Strokes, The Verve, U2 and more. James Franco has an interesting career, starting out -- more or less -- as a regular on "Freaks and Geeks," before becoming that cast's first breakout star by appearing in all three Spider-Man movies. Outside of Spider-Man and a modicum of commercial success with Pineapple Express and critical success with Milk, however, Franco's resume is littered with films that range from the terrible (Flyboys, Annapolis, City by the Sea) to the forgettable (In the Valley of Elah, The Dead Girl, Tristan + Isolde). Lately, he's been filling his time with a stint on "General Hospital," and a decent documentary about the behind-the-scenes machinations of "Saturday Night Live."
It looks like he's due now for the second phase of his career as a more solid comedic presence and, perhaps, an action star of sorts. His participation in two projects was announced yesterday. The bigger one is that he's now been cast as...

Those of you who enjoy the student horror sub-genre will be pleased to hear that the UK DVD release of Eliza Dushku's Open Graves has been moved forward a week to Monday, February 15.
Take a beach surfing setting, populate with hot babes and hunky guys, sprinkle with supernatural shocks and you have the ingredients for this release, which follows well-worn conventions and is a sort of cross between Final Destination and Jumanji.
It's aided by some history-based dark magic and there are a couple of gruesome scenes that may make you wince (involving a toenail and an eyeball), although today's teens probably won't bat an eyelid.
