The film is very Christian in spirit without mentioning religion. Doing good without seeking gain, is what the film advocates as it traces a true life story.
It has striking performances by an actress named Brooke Johnson who plays Sophie's mother and CCH Pounder who plays Lilly Keyes. It is interesting that Atom Egoyan picked up Brooke Johnson for his film "A sweet hereafter". She has truly a great potential as an actress.
The other fascinating bit in the film was the choice of background music. The low key direction was effective but never outstanding.
All in all an above average film--worth investing your time.

i thought the film touch of hope excellent in every way and was sorry i missed it over the Christmas period as could not get channel 5 where i was on holiday and hope it wont be too long before it is shown again. i just wish it was available on disc i have an interest in healing myself and have done some in the past. the healer that was portrayed in the film must be a very dedicated individual because such work requires total dedication giving much of his time and finance too. his work of course would come under fire from many quarters as i have experienced myself and you need sensitivity and also the hide of an elephant to take the knocks and critical comments.
"A Touch of Hope" is a made-for-TV movie first shown 10/10/99 on NBC in the USA. There was a time when "made-for-TV" meant 'poor movie', but not anymore.
Although there was some dramatization, the movie is based on a real person who still today, and with his wife, works within the medical community. Although the word "God" is never mentioned, it is clear from the dialog that the healing power was given by a higher power. For most of us, that means "God".
This is a very uplifting story, well-cast and well-acted. Next time it comes on TV, please watch it. You owe it to yourself.
