Six months ago, we heard that Idw Publishing, a company known for bringing us comic books based on popular established properties like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Godzilla, and others, were launching a new line of comics called Idw Dark, which would specialize in horror stories. It was also announced that in addition to featuring original horror stories, the Idw Dark line would include titles based on Paramount Pictures horror properties like Smile, A Quiet Place, Event Horizon, The Twilight Zone, Sleepy Hollow, and more. Now, Variety has revealed that Idw will begin publishing a comic book series called Event Horizon: Dark Descent in August, and this series will serve as a prequel to director Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon!

Event Horizon was considered a critical and commercial failure upon its release in 1997, but the cosmic horror film has since developed a cult following large enough to warrant a comic book prequel series.
Variety reports that Event Horizon: Dark Descent will launch its first of five issues releasing on August 20 via Idw Publishing.
Taking place prior to the film’s 2047 setting, the comic will uncover what really happened to Captain Kilpack and the first Event Horizon crew as their ship journeyed across a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining.
At the helm are writer Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness), artist Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance), and colorist Pip Martin (That Texas Blood).
Issue #1 features a primary cover by Jeffrey Alan Love, variant covers by Ward, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson, a foil art variant of Ward’s cover, and a sketch cover.

Almost 30 years after it spooked cinemagoers in 1997, Paramount’s cult horror “Event Horizon” is getting its first expansion.
Rather than hitting screens, however, “Event Horizon: Dark Descent” is an official comic book prequel series from Idw Publishing, with the first issue hitting shelves in August.
The five-part series will, according to the publishers, “embrace the hard-r rating” of the movie and “terrifying cinematic universe” created by director Paul W.S. Anderson and writer Philip Eisner. Taking place before the events of the film, the comics will tell the story of the final fate of the original Event Horizon crew and ask, what really happened to Captain Kilpack and the first crew as their ship journeyed across a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining?

Anthony Michael Hall was one of the most sought-after young actors of the 80s, appearing in numerous hit coming-of-age films, and one of the members of the group of young actors dubbed as the "Brat Pack." It's recently been announced that the actor will be joining the cast of the Netflix series Wednesday.
Per Variety, the actor will appear in the series based on American cartoonist Charles Addams' The Addams Familyin a yet-undisclosed role. His addition to the cast marks a reunion between Hall and Wednesday executive producer – and director of four Season 1 episodes – Tim Burton.
Image via Prime Video
The two previously worked together on Burton's Edward Scissorhands, starring Johnny Depp as the eponymous blade-fingered protagonist, in which Hall played Jim, Kim's jealous, arrogant boyfriend – and the film's primary antagonist. Both Edward Scissorhands and Wednesday fall under an aesthetic umbrella that has characterized Burton's career, blending dark, gothic elements with more whimsical fantasy.

Ian McDiarmid has defended his controversial return as Emperor Palpatine (a.k.a. Darth Sidious) in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. McDiarmid reprised his role even after Palpatine was seemingly killed in 1983's Return of the Jedi.
Director J. J. Abrams made the controversial decision in the ninth Star Wars film to resurrect Palpatine for a showdown with his granddaughter Rey (Daisy Ridley). Fans were critical of Abrams' creative decision, especially as the opening crawl of The Rise of Skywalker matter of factly announced that the galaxy had simply heard "a threat of revenge in the sinister voice of the late Emperor Palpatine."

The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that actor Michelle Trachtenberg died from complications related to diabetes mellitus. She was 39.
Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment on February 26. Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced her dead. Authorities reported no signs of foul play.
Initially, the medical examiner did not perform an autopsy, citing a request from the family based on religious considerations. In the absence of criminal suspicion, the office allowed the request. A final ruling was made following analysis of laboratory samples, which confirmed the cause of death.
At the time of her death, NBC News reported that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant. The medical examiner’s statement did not mention that procedure in its ruling.
Trachtenberg began acting professionally in early childhood. Her career started with television commercials and a recurring role as Lily Montgomery on All My Children.

We have a cause of death for former Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg.
Following a review of laboratory test results, it was determined that Trachtenberg died naturally as a result of complications from diabetes mellitus, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner told Deadline in a statement.
Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in her midtown Manhattan apartment February 26. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. No foul was suspected. She was 39.
The coroner’s office initially said her cause of death would remain undetermined because the family had requested that no autopsy be conducted because of religious reasons. The medical examiner’s office would automatically do an autopsy if foul play or criminality was suspected, but there was none, so the office did not overrule the family’s decision. Following the lab test results, the medical examiner’s office amended the cause of death.

Ah, there’s nothing I love more than when a series up and decides that after so long of promoting a series with dual leads, one of them a woman, they’ll randomly go in another direction and kill the woman off in the process.
And by “love,” obviously, I mean I hate it. It’s such a problematic and frustrating ordeal that I find it insulting to the audience, yet networks dip into this well frequently.
The latest to partake in this particular bad habit is Alert: Mpu.
(David Johnson/Fox, Bettina Strauss/Fox)
Here’s the thing: If there was a narrative reason for a prominent death in a series, then obviously, that’s fine. It devastates viewers, of course, but when it’s instrumental to the story arc and what comes next, most viewers are more than willing to roll with it.
However, that isn’t what happens most of the time.

The will-they-won't-they dynamic is a tale as old as time. Most notably, in sitcoms, this relationship between two characters allows a series to go on long-term without the main couple getting stale. This idea works not just in comedies but in many long-running procedurals. It is also one of the biggest draws to the crime series Bones. Inspired by real-life anthropologist Kathy Reichs, the series features Temperance "Bones" Brennan, a genius in the field. Her extreme intelligence contradicts her inexperience with personal relationships.
Throwing in forthright Seeley Booth is designed to test Brennan and create tension throughout the series. At first, the two are just partners, but they go on to pursue romantic feelings for each other and eventually form a family. Bones is not the first series to attempt this, even if it does it very well. For fans who are yearning to recapture this classic dynamic, there are...

The first teaser for Poker Face Season 2 has dropped, promising more mystery-solving fun with Natasha Lyonne's human lie detector, Charlie Cale. The first season earned huge accolades for its clever updating of 1970s TV staples like Columbo. Every week, a new murderer appears, seemingly getting away with the perfect crime, only for Charlie to show up and unravel it all with her uncanny ability to spot someone deceiving her.
In keeping with the Columbo formula, Poker Face brings in a rotating series of high-profile guest stars, who usually appear as the various killers of the week. The template provides A-list actors with a meaty role, and yet doesn't tie them down to the long-term commitments of appearing in multiple episodes. The second season looks to capitalize on the success of the first with an impressive array of announced guest stars. With a few exceptions, it is not known who...

Two-time Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender has showcased his phenomenal range as a performer in a slew of celebrated hits, including Inglourious Basterds, 12 Years a Slave, Prometheus, and Steve Jobs, with his latest silver screen project being Steven Soderbergh's critically acclaimed spy thriller Black Bag. Black Bag isn't the first time Fassbender has tried his hand at the gripping thriller genre, as the decorated leading man joined forces with directing legend David Fincher for his 2023 passion project, The Killer. The “Yellowjackets” star made her film debut in 1990 at age nine in “Mermaids.” She went on to lead iconic films such as “Sleepy Hollow,” “The Addams Family,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and “Casper” as a teen before continuing her career into adulthood with “Monster,” “Black Snake Moan,” and more.
Ricci, who is now receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, told Variety that growing up in the spotlight came with its downsides, namely being told “what was wrong” with her during camera tests.
“I hated fittings and I hated camera-test days because I knew those were the days when everyone would look at me and talk about what was wrong with me, with my appearance and what they needed to fix,” Ricci said. “‘We can’t ever shoot her from this side.

Timotheé Chalamet has been offered the title part in Disney’s Ichabod, a live-action take on Washington Irving’s The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow.
Timotheé Chalamet may have missed out on his first Oscar win last night, but the actor has reportedly been offered the lead role in Disney’s next big live action project: a reimagining of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, a story that already boasts a couple of notable cinematic interpretations.
Disney has already adapted the story once before in the 1949 animated anthology feature, The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr Toad. However, Paramount’s 1999 live action version of the tale is the one that most film fans will remember. Directed by Tim Burton, it remains a deliciously Gothic treat.

Disney is reportedly working on a new movie called Ichabod, a spinoff of Sleepy Hollow, and they want Timothée Chalamet to play the main character. The film will be directed by Alfonso Gomez.
Ichabod will focus on the story of Ichabod Crane, the famous character from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The original story, written by Washington Irving, is about a schoolteacher who encounters the Headless Horseman, a ghostly figure who haunts the town.
The rumor comes from Daniel Richtman, a notable industry insider, and was published on his Patreon. Even though this wasn’t confirmed by the official sources, fans are excited about the possibility. Chalamet is known for his roles in Dune, Wonka, and Call Me by Your Name.
There is no release date yet for Ichabod, but with a strong team behind it, this film could be an exciting new addition to Disney’s lineup.

The cause and manner of Michelle Trachtenberg’s death will remain undetermined, according to the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Trachtenberg’s famly requested that no autopsy be conducted because of religious reasons. The medical examiner’s office would automatically do an autopsy if foul play or criminality was suspected, but there is none, so the office did not overrule the family’s decision.
Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday at a luxury residential tower in midtown Manhattan where Trachtenberg was found unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. She was 39.
The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl star had recently undergone a liver transplant and may have suffered complications, police sources told ABC News.
A spokesperson for the family issued a statement Wednesday confirming her death. “It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away.

The Academy Awards aren’t exactly an objective measure of cinematic quality, but it’s always gratifying to see hard-working artists be rewarded for their output – especially when those artists happen to work in the horror genre. And in honor of Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance being nominated for a whopping five Oscars this year, we’ve decided to look back on the small selection of horror movies that have managed to win Academy Awards.
Of course, the lines separating one genre from another can sometimes be hard to define, so don’t be surprised if we end up disagreeing on what does or doesn’t count as a proper horror picture. That being said, don’t forget to comment below with your own Oscar-winning favorites if you think we missed a particularly good one.
With that out of the way, onto the list…

After a long period without any updates, it seems that the movie is still being worked on and is expected to start filming this year.
Originally entitled The Carnival at the End of Days, the film will now reportedly just run under the truncated title of Carnival. Considering Gilliam is behind such movies as The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnasus, the original title was not exactly out of character, but it looks like short and intriguing is now the name of the game.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.
We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.
Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

If you grew up a fan of the paranormal in the '90s, then you’ll easily recognize the name Art Bell. The iconic radio host of Coast to Coast Am talked long into the night with his guests, discussing everything from ghosts and aliens, to time travel and Bigfoot. Now, Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti is set to portray the late Bell in a new biopic from Ready or Not and Abigail directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
Per Deadline, the untitled project with Giamatti in the lead is now in the works, with studios like Amazon and Warner Bros. vying for the pitch. The script is being written by Sam Chalsen (TV's Sleepy Hollow) and Nelson Greaves (Unfriended), with Sophie Cassidy's 2.0 Entertainment producing along with Jeff Katz, the latter of whom is an accomplished talk radio host in his own right, and a big fan of Bell.

Johnny Depp Native Adoption ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
Johnny Depp, one of Hollywood’s biggest names, has been a crown champion of the movie industry since the 1990s. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, as expected from a superstar of his caliber, has dominated media headlines for textbook reasons—ranging from his alleged addictions and high-profile love life to his frequent collaborations with Tim Burton.
Beyond his silver screen ventures, Depp’s relationships and family also rouse curiosity. His daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, recently garnered wide recognition for her role in Nosferatu, and the less said about his ordeal with ex-wife Amber Heard, the better. However, not much is discussed about Depp’s parents — aside from his adoptive mother, which often goes unnoticed in public discourse.
Depp, just a month short of celebrating his 49th birthday, was adopted by Ladonna Harris, president and founder of Americans for Indian Opportunity. This made him...
