Six months ago, we heard that Idw Publishing, a company known for bringing us comic books based on popular established properties like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Godzilla, and others, were launching a new line of comics called Idw Dark, which would specialize in horror stories. It was also announced that in addition to featuring original horror stories, the Idw Dark line would include titles based on Paramount Pictures horror properties like Smile, A Quiet Place, Event Horizon, The Twilight Zone, Sleepy Hollow, and more. Now, Variety has revealed that Idw will begin publishing a comic book series called Event Horizon: Dark Descent in August, and this series will serve as a prequel to director Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon!

Event Horizon was considered a critical and commercial failure upon its release in 1997, but the cosmic horror film has since developed a cult following large enough to warrant a comic book prequel series.

Variety reports that Event Horizon: Dark Descent will launch its first of five issues releasing on August 20 via Idw Publishing.

Taking place prior to the film’s 2047 setting, the comic will uncover what really happened to Captain Kilpack and the first Event Horizon crew as their ship journeyed across a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining.

At the helm are writer Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness), artist Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance), and colorist Pip Martin (That Texas Blood).

Issue #1 features a primary cover by Jeffrey Alan Love, variant covers by Ward, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson, a foil art variant of Ward’s cover, and a sketch cover.

The countdown to Jensen Ackles’s new crime series, Countdown, is on. Expect the show to stream its way to viewers this summer. Prime Video announced when the action-packed series will drop and released some first-look images. Countdown stars the Days of Our Lives alum, Eric Dane, the actor formerly known as McSteamy, and Jessica Camacho, who fans will recognize from All Rise, The Flash, S.W.A.T., and Sleepy Hollow. The coroner’s office had originally informed the public that the cause of Trachtenberg’s death would not be determined, as her family had requested that no autopsies be conducted, due to religious practices. However, a review of laboratory test results found that the actress died due to complications from diabetes mellitus, according to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner’s statement to Deadline. The spokesperson explained, “Toxicology testing can be done without autopsy.”

The “Yellowjackets” star made her film debut in 1990 at age nine in “Mermaids.” She went on to lead iconic films such as “Sleepy Hollow,” “The Addams Family,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and “Casper” as a teen before continuing her career into adulthood with “Monster,” “Black Snake Moan,” and more.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Orci moved to the United States with his family when he was 10. He started off as a writer on Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and for most of his career was partnered with Alex Kurtzman.

Orci was co-writer/producer on the 2009 Star Trek movie reboot and its two sequels as well as on the 2007 Transformers movie and the 2009 followup Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Orci’s feature credits also include writing work on Mission Impossible III and producing on the Now You See Me franchise, The Proposal as well as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which he also co-wrote.

Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.

We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.

Now, Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti is set to portray the late Bell in a new biopic from Ready or Not and Abigail directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Per Deadline, the untitled project with Giamatti in the lead is now in the works, with studios like Amazon and Warner Bros. vying for the pitch. The script is being written by Sam Chalsen (TV's Sleepy Hollow) and Nelson Greaves (Unfriended), with Sophie Cassidy's 2.0 Entertainment producing along with Jeff Katz, the latter of whom is an accomplished talk radio host in his own right, and a big fan of Bell.
