Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac (1986)

Trivia

Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac

Edit
Although it's never mentioned in the anime, the manga readers know that Mitsumasa Kido has fathered the 100 so-called 'orphans' that he later pretends to foster before training and sending them all over the globe to earn Armors and become Saints. The Bronze Saints are all half-brothers with the exception of Shun and Ikki who have the same mother.
Although Mu states that only blood can revive a dead Cloth/Armor, there is one notable exception: the Phoenix Cloth. Just as its mythical namesake, this Armor can regenerate itself, even when reduced to ashes. Furthermore, it seems that it lends its regenerating powers to its bearer thus granting immortality to the Phoenix Bronze Saint. It's also interesting to note that, if Bronze Cloths are worn through the centuries by generations of young Saints, before Ikki , no man had either claimed, earned or worn the Phoenix Cloth, ever.
This series became so popular in Brazil that Nobuo Yamada, who sings the title theme, has been in Brazilian anime conventions and has performed the Brazilian-Portuguese version, originally sang by Eduardo Falaschi.
This series gained cult following in Brazil and remains as one of the most successful anime aired there, tied with the Dragon Ball series. A national soundtrack was released in 1995 featuring vocals of singers William Kawamura and Larissa Tassi, who also recorded the Brazilian soundtrack for Magic Knight Rayearth (1994).
Masami Kurumada said that he doesn't like the anime, but agreed to transfer the manga to anime because of a tradition of make an anime from every manga.
