Josh Charles to Star in Fox Medical Comedy Based on British Hit ‘Doc Martin’
Image
Josh Charles will star in Fox’s latest medical series “Best Medicine,” an adaptation of the British hit series “Doc Martin.”

The medical comedy, which will premiere during the 2025-26 TV season, follows the success of the network’s medical drama “Doc” — which was also adapted from a hit Italian series.

“The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor, and with ‘Best Medicine’ coming to Fox, that eccentricity gets a smalltown America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity,” President of Fox Television Network Michael Thorn said.

“Best Medicine” will center around Martin Best (Charles), a talented surgeon who abruptly leaves his career behind in Boston and moves to a quaint East Coast fishing village to become a general practitioner. Martin’s blunt, big-city bedside manner does not quite mesh with the locals in the small town. In his attempts to distance himself from the residents of the town,...

Josh Charles to Star in ‘Doc Martin’ Adaptation at Fox
Image
Fox is adding another medical show to its roster.

The network has given a series order to Best Medicine, an adaptation of the long-running British series Doc Martin. Josh Charles will star in the show, which Fox describes as an hour-long comedy, as a successful surgeon who abruptly leave his post in Boston to become a general practitioner in the East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a kid. It’s slated to premiere in the 2025-26 season

Fox Entertainment will own the series outright, with Fox Entertainment Studios producing. All3Media International owns the Doc Martin format, which Propagate Content brought to Fox. Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City, Divorce) executive produces with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Rodney Ferrell of Propagate and Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite, EPs of the original series.

“The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality, and humor,...

Josh Charles To Star In Fox Adaptation Of British Hit ‘Doc Martin’ Ordered To Series For 2025-26
Image
Exclusive: Doc, meat Doc Martin. On the heels of Doc‘s breakout success, Fox is doubling down on medical procedurals with a series order to one-hour comedy Best Medicine, based on the hugely popular British series Doc Martin. Josh Charles will take on the iconic character famously played by Martin Clunes for almost two decades.

Charles is set as the lead, the peculiar and brilliant Doctor Martin Best, in Best Medicine, from writer/executive producer Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City). Wholly owned by Fox Entertainment, the series, produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, is slated to premiere during the 2025-26 season.

As Deadline noted in its annual pilot season report this past March, the Doc Martin adaptation had emerged as a frontrunner on the hourlong side at Fox. With the project headed to a likely series green light, Fox recently approached Charles for the lead...

David Zaslav Declares, “This Is The Strongest HBO Has Ever Been”, Likens It To NBC In “Must-See TV” Era
Image
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav believes “this is the strongest HBO has ever been” in its 53-year history, with a pop-culture mojo reminiscent of NBC’s “must-see TV” era.

Speaking to Wall Street analysts on Wbd’s first-quarter earnings call, Zaslav saluted HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys as a “generational talent,” noting his senior leadership team has been together for 15 years. Coming off the success of The White Lotus and the current quarter’s The Last of Us, Wbd’s shareholder letter and earnings release prior to the call foregrounded HBO.

When an analyst lobbed a softball over the plate – “how is HBO able to turn out so many standout hits like this?” – Zaslav pounced. “The idea of, it’s not how much, it’s how good is something we identified,” he said. “We’re not going to flood the zone. We want to be telling the...

The 30 Best Romantic TV Shows to Watch Now, from ‘Moonlighting’ to ‘Normal People’
Image
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in September 2024. It has since been updated with new entries.]

If there’s anything TV is built for, it’s creating a satisfying romance. The prospect of watching the same characters for several episodes, several years potentially, and see them evolve means that fans can watch as a pairing meet, bicker, fall in love, get together (and maybe do those last two steps over and over again for some on-and-off-again tension), and reach relationship milestones that film can’t really cover with the same breadth. One of TV’s very first hits, “I Love Lucy,” didn’t have the word “love” in it for nothing — at its core, it was a story of a loving (if hectic) marriage.

As the medium has evolved, TV has been littered with absolutely iconic couples. Sitcoms like “Cheers,” “The Office,” or “New Girl” mined gold from the will-they-won’t-they between pairings like Sam and Diane, Pam and Jim, Jess and Nick. Soap operas such...

Lili Reinhart’s Brutally Honest Confession About ‘Riverdale’s’ Lingerie Scene Will Break Your Heart: “I didn’t tell anyone this”
Image
Lili Reinhart doesn’t bite her tongue—and that’s exactly why fans love her. The Riverdale star isn’t expected to hit the Met Gala red carpet this year—and honestly, it’s no shocker.

She’s been serving up real talk for years now—whether it’s about her sexuality, mental health, or the brutal body standards in Hollywood. Remember when she went full don’t-hold-back mode and called out Kim Kardashian in 2022 for crash dieting to squeeze into Marilyn Monroe’s legendary dress? Yeah, that moment. She later told W Magazine she didn’t expect to be invited back after that. Spoiler alert: she wasn’t in 2023 and 2025, and the 2025 guest list isn’t looking any different.

But Lili’s not losing sleep over it. These days, she’s more into loving her body than chasing couture validation. Sure, living in the spotlight comes with pressure to always look airbrushed and flawless,...

3 new Max shows (plus 2 huge seasons finales) to watch in May 2025
Image
If you're worried that there won't be anything to watch on HBO or Max this month as the lead up to the summer months begins, we're here to make sure your watch lists stay stocked. Sure, it's been a bit quieter over on Max since the season finales of The White Lotus and The Pitt, but there's a lot to look forward to in May 2025, including three new shows and two more can't-miss season finale.

First up, let's talk about these season finales, because they're coming up quickly and will be here before we know it! Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Chloé Zhao’s Passion for ‘Buffy’ Changed Her Mind About a Reboot: ‘Ok, There’s a Reason’
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah Michelle Gellar is detailing how Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao changed her mind about a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot.

Gellar, who has publicly been against a revival for years, officially is set to reprise her titular role as Buffy Summers for a new Hulu series, with Zhao directing the pilot. “Poker Face” scribes Nora and Lilla Zuckerman are writing the show, which hails from 20th Television and Searchlight TV where Zhao has a first-look deal. Both Gellar and Zhao will executive produce the series, along with original executive producer (and music icon) Dolly Parton. “Buffy” creator and writer Joss Whedon has no involvement in the reboot.

“Every pitch I heard was just like, ‘Let’s just do “Buffy” again,'” Gellar told Elite Daily of why she finally decided to agree to a revival. “Why? But the passion that [Zhao] came to me with, what she wanted to do...

And Just Like That’s Big Season 3 Question: Should Carrie Wait Around for Aidan?
Image
Just like the original Sex and the City, Max’s sequel series And Just Like That… is all about romance — but I can’t help but wonder if Carrie is making a mistake in her love life.

Let’s back up: In Season 2, Carrie reunited with her former fiancé Aidan, played by John Corbett, and they discovered the spark was still there between them. Carrie’s husband Big had died, and Aidan was divorced, so it seemed like the stars were aligning for them to get a second chance at love together. They even picked out a new apartment together,...

The mystery-drama comedy Desperate Housewives ran for eight seasons on ABC from 2004 until 2012, but it continued to have a loyal fandom even after its ending. That's why the series is now getting a spin-off.

The 10 Worst HBO Shows Ever
Image
Long considered the gold standard of television, HBO continues to dominate the small screen with broadcast hits and streaming successes (via the platform Max). In the 2020s alone, it's produced a range of shows that mostly define what audiences expect from modern TV. Just as every crime drama has aspired to be "The Wire" or "The Sopranos" since the early 2000s, now every corporate thriller wants to be "Succession," every teen drama "Euphoria," and every fantasy "Game of Thrones." Of course, not every one of these aspiring shows can reach the high bar HBO has set -- and that includes its own series.

Indeed, HBO has developed its fair share of duds in the past. Sometimes, it seems as though they desired to repeat the success of previous triumphs like "Sex and the City" or "Veep"; others might have gotten too swept up in the ambitious vision of once-reliable artists...

A ‘Rebound’ Can Be Your Next Love or ‘Destructive Way of Avoiding Pain,’ Says Creator Melike Leblebicioglu Kaveh as Beta-Sold Series Debuts Clip (Exclusive)
Image
Some stories begin with a meet-cute, Norwegian series “Rebound” with a devastating break-up nobody saw coming.

Premiering at Canneseries, it sees Alex (Mathilde Storm), back from a holiday in Bali. She’s happy to see her on-again, off-again boyfriend Mikkel, even though things have been rocky between them. Alex’s hoping they can finally get back together, for good. Instead, he calls it quits – while they’re having sex, echoing one of “Sex and the City’s” most famous lines: “You are breaking up with me while you’re still inside of me?!”

“It was very important to be very honest, right from the start, and to ‘trick’ the viewer a little. You think this reunion’s going to be romantic and it’s the opposite. The first episode really captures what the whole show’s about,” says creator Melike Leblebicioglu Kaveh.

“Obviously, I’ve been through it as well.

Casablanca: The Secret Behind This Iconic Scene From Humphrey Bogart’s Classic Romantic Drama Will Blow Your Mind!
Image
Exploring The Secret Behind Casablanca’s Iconic Farewell Scene! ( Photo Credit – Prime Video )

One of cinema’s most iconic moments, the farewell between Rick and Ilsa in Casablanca, wasn’t quite what it seemed. That fog-laden scene, with Humphrey Bogart’s Rick and Ingrid Bergman’s Ilsa standing in front of a plane poised for takeoff, has etched itself into the DNA of film history as a powerful and timeless image. But behind the magic, a surprising truth about its production emerges, even to this day.

The Foggy Goodbye That Fooled Everyone

Casablanca, filmed during the Second World War, had to contend with the strict limitations imposed by wartime conditions. One of those restrictions was filming at an airport after dark, a challenge that would have doomed the desired final scene.

With a budget stretched thin and time constraints in full swing, the production turned to ingenuity. The “airport” was actually a carefully crafted set,...

5 Artemis Moments on ‘It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ That Prove She’s Immune to the Gang’s Corruption
Image
The Paddy’s Pub Gang of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a tendency to destroy the lives of everyone they encounter, with one glaring, glorious and intimately bleached exception.

For most recurring side characters on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the day that they first came into contact with the Gang marked the beginning of the darkest period of their lives. Father Matthew Mara stands out as the most extreme example of the Gang causing physical, emotional and spiritual decay in everyone they meet, as poor Rickety Cricket’s downward spiral from respected Catholic priest to homeless, deformed, drug-addicted, dog-kissing boy-pimp started as soon as he stepped foot in Paddy’s Pub. Between Rickety Cricket, Bill Ponderosa, Maureen Ponderosa, Ben the Soldier, The Lawyer, The Waitress, The Waiter and the entire McPoyle clan, the Gang has a habit of leaving their acquaintances in a much more defiled state...

Sarah Jessica Parker Talks Carrie Bradshaw and And Just Like That Season 3
Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker is preparing for the return of Carrie Bradshaw in Season 3 of And Just Like That, while addressing the long-standing debate surrounding her character’s choices and contradictions. Appearing on Today With Jenna & Friends on April 21, Parker spoke about playing Carrie for nearly three decades and why she continues to embrace the character’s flaws.

“It’s been such a sort of extraordinary experience,” Parker said. “I try to describe it as being contractually obligated to play somebody else — be somebody else — for about 27 years, to behave in ways which would be illegal if I, as a married person with children, ways in which I would behave in the city or with men.”

Over the years, Carrie Bradshaw has attracted both strong support and frequent criticism. Her decisions—romantic, financial, and otherwise—have divided viewers since the original Sex and the City aired on HBO. Parker acknowledged the...

Sarah Jessica Parker Jokes It Would Be ‘Illegal’ for Her to Act Like Carrie on ‘And Just Like That’ in Real Life | Video

Sarah Jessica Parker knows that her beloved “Sex and the City” and “And Just Like That” character, Carrie Bradshaw, isn’t always the easiest hero to root for. From fumbled romances to ill-advised trysts to heartbreaking fallouts with her friends, the character has made some ill-advised decisions over the years.

Ahead of “And Just Like That” Season 3, the star and executive producer joked that frankly, if she behaved like Carrie did in real life, it would be illegal.

“It’s been such a sort of extraordinary experience,” Parker said on Monday’s “Today With Jenna & Friends” of her appreciation for her best-known character over the years, warts and all. “And I try to describe it as being contractually obligated to play somebody else, be somebody else for about 27 years — to behave in ways which would be illegal if I, as a married person with children — ways in which I...

David Chase Battled HBO Over ‘The Sopranos’ Name, Until 1 Sitcom Stepped In and Saved the Show – “Fought tooth and nail with them”
Image
The Sopranos blew the doors off what TV could be. It set the standard for prestige drama, something that, in all honesty, has been quite hard to beat, or even match. Before The Sopranos, networks enjoyed their safety, comfort, and the tried and tested formula for success. Why fix what’s not broke? Things could have very well remained the same – a good ol’ mix of happy endings, clean-cut heroes, and nobody rocking the boat.

The medium would eventually get its breakout anti-hero, with a fair bit of agita. Tony Soprano kicked the door open for every great show that followed: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, all of it. The Peabody Awards took notice early, awarding its first two seasons back-to-back – an honor shared only by Northern Exposure and The West Wing.

It’s been almost two decades since The Sopranos infamously cut to black in its finale,...

Law & Order Creator Dick Wolf: An Og Star Who Left the Show Was Supposed to Get a Pay Raise So “Huge” It’d Have Been “Impossible to grant” for NBC
Image
Law & Order has never been about the glitz or big names, it’s always been about the story, the case, the moral grey area. But even in a show that thrives on consistency, behind-the-scenes shake-ups happen. According to Dick Wolf, one original cast member almost stayed on… if not for a jaw-dropping pay raise that NBC simply couldn’t justify.

The number was reportedly so massive, it would’ve set a precedent that network execs weren’t ready for. So, instead of rewriting the budget, the show moved on, proving once again that no one is bigger than the brand.

NBC couldn’t afford Chris Noth’s “huge” Law & Order raise

Chris Noth’s days as Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order came to a sudden halt not because of on-set drama, but because NBC couldn’t match his worth.

Alicia Silverstone's Best Movie Is Getting A Proper Sequel Series At Peacock, But Does Anyone Want That?
Image
Today's news has got fans of Amy Heckerling's coming-of-age masterpiece "Clueless" waffling between totally freaking and totally bugging, because according to Variety, the Peacock streaming service is currently developing a sequel series with star Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz.

If this sounds like old news, it's because you're probably thinking of a different Peacock "Clueless" series that was announced back in 2020 and slated to star Stacey Dash, reviving her role as Cher's ride-or-die bestie Dionne. Well, that series is no longer happening, and this series currently has Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage attached to write, along with Jordan Weiss. The trio will executive produce alongside Silverstone, and they'll be joined by the original film's producer, Robert Lawrence, and writer/director Heckerling as executive producers as well.

‘Fire Island’ Director Andrew Ahn Teases Potential Sequel Is “In The Ether”
Image
With another summer just around the corner, another ferry to Fire Island could be on the horizon.

Director Andrew Ahn recently revealed there’s “always been conversation about doing a sequel” to his 2022 gay romantic-comedy, which is set at the titular LGBTQ getaway and is loosely inspired by Jane Austen‘s Pride & Prejudice.

“I don’t know if a real concrete idea has been formed yet, but there are things in the ether,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Ahn noted that writer and star Joel Kim Booster “always jokes that it’s going to be like the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That, where it’s 30 years later and they’re older and gayer. … We’ll see what happens.”

The movie stars Booster as Noah, who enjoys one final trip with his friends to Fire Island while trying to help his best friend Howie (Bowen Yang) hook...

‘And Just Like That’ will be back — but it won’t be Emmy eligible this season

And just like that, it will soon be time for more And Just Like That...

Carrie and friends will return to Max for season three on May 29 for a 12-episode season, which will run weekly through Aug. 14. The weekly rollout, though, means the comedy won't be eligible until next year's Emmy Awards.

The show, which chronicles the years-long friendship of Parker's Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte), also stars Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Cathy Ang, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Mehcad Brooks, Jonathan Cake, Niall Cunningham, Logan Marshall-Green, Sebastiano Pigazzi, Alexa Swinton, and Dolly Wells. Image
Get those cosmos ready, polish up the Manolo Blahniks, and cover sensitive ears around you. The announcement came with a sneak peek at the new season, showing off big changes, bigger emotions, and — of course — plainly ridiculous fashion. It’s the beginning of a new chapter, with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) returning to her voiceover roots, literally writing a new book and giving audiences a more intimate glimpse into her world than ever before. ‘And Just Like That’ Season 3 Trailer: Carrie Bradshaw Is Back on the Market, But Will Aidan Break Her Heart Again?
Image
“And Just Like That” is missing a certain je n’ais Che quoi.

The third season of the “Sex and the City” revival series is also the first installment sans “controversial character” (in the words of series staple Cynthia Nixon) Che Diaz, who was played by Sara Ramirez. Che was a stand-up comedian who became the love interest of Miranda (Nixon) and kickstarted her coming out story.

And Season 3 of “And Just Like That” also picks up after Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) shocking cameo and Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) third split with Aidan (John Corbett). But don’t worry, Corbett is set to reprise his role for Season 3, along with series leads Parker, Nixon, and Kristin Davis. And he seems to be back with Carrie too…

The core group is rounded out by Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, Sebastiano Pigazzi,...

‘And Just Like That’ Season 3 Trailer: Carrie Bradshaw Writes Fiction and Reunites With Aidan as Max Sets May Premiere Date
Image
Max has released the official trailer for “And Just Like That” Season 3, debuting May 29 on the streaming platform.

When viewers last saw Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw on “And Just Like That” — during the Season 2 finale, which aired in August 2023 — she had just ordered a Cosmopolitan on a beach in Greece. Today, at long last, Max announced the premiere date for Season 3, and dropped the first look at the new season as well.

At the end of the second season, Carrie had decided to give up her iconic Upper East Side apartment, which she’d lived in during “Sex and the City,” and moved back into during the first season of “And Just Like That” after her husband, Big (Chris Noth) died. Before moving to Gramercy Park, she had one last dinner party at the apartment, having said a temporary goodbye to Aidan (John Corbett), who had asked her...

‘And Just Like That’ Season 3 Trailer Promises Aidan Drama, Romantasy and Rats | Video
Image
At long last, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte are coming back. Max has released the trailer for Season 3 of “And Just Like That…” the streamer’s follow-up to “Sex and the City.”

The first trailer for the 12-episode season, which kicks off a weekly drop with its May 29 premiere, previews all the ladies kicking off new chapters in the summertime — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) dives into the world of romantic fiction; Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) takes on a new job and potential relationship; and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) finds her daughter with a new romance blooming.

And, of course, there’s Aidan (John Corbett), who rekindled his romance with Carrie last season while navigating long distance woes. The clip teases some complications, so things aren’t completely sailing smoothly in New York City this summer. Especially for Carrie, who at one point in the video runs away from a pack of rats! “Prancing around like in ‘The Nutcracker,...

Robert Downey Jr. Couldn’t Marry His Ex-girlfriend After Dating for 7 Years Because of His Life’s Biggest Mistake
Image
Before becoming synonymous with MCU’s Tony Stark, and building his first Iron Man suit in a cave, Robert Downey Jr. was just a charming Hollywood heartthrob who fell madly in love with a rising star—none other than Sarah Jessica Parker. Long before her Sex and the City stardom and his superhero fame, Downey Jr. and Parker were the couples of the ’80s.

However, despite enjoying a relationship for seven whole years, Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t end up together. Because behind the glitz and glam, Downey Jr’s biggest enemy back then—his addiction—sadly ruined his love story with Parker. And that’s where one of Hollywood’s most promising romances crashed and burned.

The Sexiest Television Comedies of All Time
Image
In the wake of The White Lotus and Dying for Sex, two television shows drenched in the pheromones of lust, The Hollywood Reporter decided to rank the 20 sexiest TV shows this week. Where, you might wonder, do comedies rank on the list? Not surprisingly, the list is dominated by streaming dramas where the latitude for nudity and general horniness is a little wider. A few comedy shows did make the list, however, as you’ll read below.

Before we get into the Hollywood Reporter’s rankings, though, consider a few other sitcoms that might have qualified for the list…

Dream On

The whole point of HBO’s Dream On was to take advantage of the pay cable network’s willingness to show naked people running around the bedroom. Imagine a sitcom in which someone’s dress falls off every week and you get the idea.

Bob’s Burgers

Not sure what...
