Ed O’Neill charmed fans as Jay Pritchett on Modern Family for 11 long years. While Sofia Vergara’s Gloria is widely considered to be the face of the sitcom, O’Neill’s Jay Pritchett is considered to be the soul of the series. As such, it is no wonder that he worked so hard to bring his best work forward for the show.
Well, it checks out since O’Neill has admitted himself that he was so impressed by the script that he even changed his initial decision not to do a sitcom again after Married…With Children.
However, his anxieties about the show reared anew soon after that. The reason behind that was that during his first table read with the rest of the cast members, he realized that he might have been wrong about the show after all.

David Leitch has a history of having high-profile talent in his films, and now Nicholas Houltwill be added to that list. The American filmmaker is now planning his next thriller, an unnamed action heist movie, and Hoult is set to star in the Amazon MGM Studios, Imagine Entertainment, and 87North project that will be directed by Leitch. It's expected to be a theatrical release with the script written by Mark Bianculli (Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector).
In an effort to keep the excitement going, details about the plot haven't been released, but with Leitch's track record, eager film lovers can expect lots of effects and action-packed scenes. From John Wick (2014) to Deadpool 2 (2018), Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), The Fall Guy (2024), and more, you can imagine a dramatic explosion will be somewhere in one of the scenes.

After barely escaping the curse of Nosferatu with his life, Nicholas Houlthas landed his next role. This time, the actor will be receiving a crash course in action perfection as he leads the cast of David Leitch’s upcoming bank heist film, which is backed by Amazon MGM Studios. As of right now, the untitled movie has yet to reveal plot details, but with Leitch behind the camera, we already know that the production will be overflowing with high-octane sequences and next-level stunt performances. Set for a cinematic release ahead of what we would imagine being a streaming drop on Prime Video, the movie’s screenplay is the latest to come from Mark Bianculli (Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector). In addition to Amazon MGM Studios, Leitch and Kelly McCormick will be producing under their 87North banner alongside Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum for Imagine.

The serial killer train is moving full steam ahead for another edition of Nightmare on Film Street! Join your horror hosts Kimmi & Jon for a blast from the past, and a late 90s lesson in MomCore Gore with The Bone Collector (1999). As gnarly as Se7en, and as stacked a cast as…uh- Se7en, The Bone Collector is rarely talked about these days when ranking serial killer thrillers, and that’s a damn shame.
The Bone Collector stars a paraplegic Denzel Washington whose acting circles around his co-stars with just his face and 1 working finger! And despite being targeted by Dateline obsessed Moms (mostly thanks to a young Angelina Jolie) this dang movie also has: melted faces, people eaten by rats, creepy severed fingers, and a death cab for cuties on a one-way ride to a shallow grave. Indie streaming service Nebula has set its first-ever scripted original series, “Sub/liminal,” with Oscar-winning producer Dan Jinks on board to executive produce.
Per Nebula, “The new dark anthology series from the indie streamer will be in the vein of The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. The show will explore power dynamics in human relationships, and what can happen when those relationships fall out of balance.”
The six-episode first season of “Sub/liminal” will feature stories from Nebula creators made in partnership with seasoned directors and producers. Nebula CEO Dave Wiskus will executive produce alongside Jinks.
“Sub/liminal” is set to begin production later this year.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with Dave Wiskus and the amazing writers and directors he has assembled at Nebula for this exciting new series,” Jinks said.
Wiskus added: “Dan Jinks has an Oscar, I’m doing whatever he says.”

Se7en's ensemble would have been led by other A-list Hollywood actors. Director David Fincher said the dark script repelled most candidates including Denzel Washington, who was an early frontrunner.
Director David Fincher said A-list Hollywood actors were tapped to lead the film's ensemble; most thought the script was deplorable. "Almost everybody that I sent it to originally also passed," he told The Independent. "I sent it to Ned Beatty to play John Doe, and he wouldn't even consider it. Almost everyone thought that the film was far too ghoulish to deal with." Val Kilmer was also a candidate but declined, and R. Lee Ermey, who played Full Metal Jacket's iconic villain, was passed over. Denzel Washington was also heavily courted to play David Mills but repeatedly rejected the offer.

Denzel Washington has dabbled across several genres in his time as a Hollywood leading man, but he's only ever been in one true horror movie, 1998's Fallen, and it deserves far more recognition than it gets. The supernatural religious horror movie features Washington as a seasoned Philadelphia police detective who is investigating a series of ritualistic murders that are reminiscent of those committed by a serial killer he had already put on death row. What begins as a religious thriller veers into supernatural horror with the introduction of genuine demonic possession as the narrative unfolds.
While Fallen was regarded as a box office flop upon its release, it has gained a certain cult status over the years, and is widely regarded as one of Denzel Washington's most underrated movies. The stand-alone movie has an original, creative plot that is appropriately dark for a creepy religious horror movie, and it features...

Denzel Washington has developed a reputation as one of the greatest actors of his generation, and many of his best movies have come in the crime genre. Washington has a habit of playing different law enforcement officials, whether they are detectives, federal agents or private investigators. Often, when he takes a foray into an unfamiliar genre, like sci-fi or Westerns, he does so in a movie that still deploys many tropes and traditions of the crime genre.
Washington's best crime movies have a surprising range of genres and styles. There are more comedic and intelligent puzzles like Inside Man, as well as brutal action flicks like the Equalizer franchise. No matter what kind of character he's playing, Washington always seems to bring his A-game to the crime genre. He has even earned some awards for his performances in the crime genre.

By the end of the '90s, Denzel Washington had seemingly done it all. After his breakout role in arguably the best Civil War film ever made, 1989's "Glory," earned him an Oscar for best Supporting Actor, he went on to earn yet another Academy Award nomination for his performance in "Malcom X" in 1992 and "The Hurricane" in 1999. Throughout that time, he'd proven he was also more than capable of bringing his effortless charismas to less cerebral fare such as action thriller "Crimson Tide" and crime drama "The Bone Collector."
But by the end of the millennium there was still one thing Denzel had never done: play a bad guy. The actor was so naturally magnetic that it seems Hollywood never thought to waste such appeal on a villain, and so Denzel remained a good guy right up until 2001. Denzel Washington's career is mostly a model of consistency. Once he officially broke through with his Academy Award-nominated performance as South African activist Steve Biko in "Cry Freedom," he deftly alternated between prestige roles and strictly commercial parts. There were missteps, but you can at least understand why he signed on to a buddy comedy like "Heart Condition;" he hadn't won his Oscar for "Glory" just yet, and the opportunity to act opposite a tremendously talented performer like Bob Hoskins surely looked appealing in theory. The movie is dreadful, but neither Washington nor Hoskins phone it in.
And yet there was a sense among some in 1992 that Washington's brilliantly multifaceted performance in Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" would put an end to such frivolities as "Heart Condition" and "Ricochet." It's intriguing to consider what might've happened had the Academy not determined that '92 was the year to honor the...

Denzel Washington recently shared a candid perspective on how his Oscar win for Glory impacted the trajectory of his career. Washington continues to deliver standout performances, most recently in Ridley Scott's Gladiator II as the former slave, Macrinus, who rises to become a ruthless power broker in ancient Rome. Washington's performance has been awash with praise for its intense blend of cunning and brutality, further demonstrating his range as one of Hollywood's most accomplished actors.
In a conversation with ScreenDaily, Washington reflects on how his early Oscar win for the historical war drama Glory influenced his filmography in the years that followed. Winning Best Supporting Actor for his role as the hardened Private Trip, in one of the Union's first Black regiments during the Civil War, cemented Washington's status as a leading man in Hollywood. Denzel Washington is having a huge career year, which is deserved after his decades of work in the industry. Ridley Scott's historical epic Gladiator II, in which Washington played Macrinus, became the highest-grossing movie in the actor's career. He was nominated for both a Critics Choice Award and a Golden Globe award for his work in the film, and is expected to get an Oscar nomination next month. Awards have oft recognized Washington's work as such, as he has won Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor, for Glory and Training Day, respectively.
That said, not all of Washington's work has been met with such overwhelming praise. Though he has had some notably critically acclaimed work, the actor's Rotten Tomatoes scores have also struggled at points. This is evidenced by movies such as Heart Condition, John Q, and The Bone Collector, all of which had Rotten Tomatoes scores...

Angelina Jolie is one of the most celebrated actors of her generation, and one of Hollywood's most notable humanitarians. She's done vitally important work on behalf of refugees for the United Nations, and has also taken up for women's rights in the third world. She's an extraordinary person, but it all started with acting -- and overcoming the potential stigma of being what the kids nowadays call a "nepo-baby."
Yes, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Two decades after its theatrical release, Bobby Cannavale revisits the path that led to creating the critically acclaimed film The Station Agent. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Cannavale reveals that the creation of The Station Agent lingered for four years, primarily due to Peter Dinklage's casting.
Written and directed by Tom McCarthy (in his feature directorial debut), The Station Agent centers on Dinklage's Finbar McBride, a man with dwarfism who inherits an abandoned train station in a small New Jersey town. There, he meets Joe Oramas (Cannavale), a hot dog vendor, and Olivia Harris (Patricia Clarkson), an artist, and the three develop a close friendship. At the time, Dinklage wasn't an "A-list-type" actor, so studios were looking to recast him; according to Cannavale, studios also wanted to do away with one of the film's central points: Fin's dwarfism.

Recurring Martin Scorsese collaborator Bobby Cannavale reveals he believes he disappointed the director after the cancellation of their 2016 TV show. Cannavale made his screen debut in Sidney Lumet's 1996 crime drama Night Falls on Manhattan and followed it up with the HBO television film When Trumpets Fade in 1998. He then rose to prominence on the TV crime-drama series Third Watch, and scored roles in big screen crime-thrillers such as Gloria, The Bone Collector, and 3 A.M., before achieving greater recognition with a supporting role in Will & Grace.
His breakout role came with the 2012 crime drama Boardwalk Empire, one of the best TV period dramas set in the 1920s, in which he played the role of Gyp Rosetti. King Kong ain’t got nothin’ on Denzel! But maybe The Bone Collector does…Denzel Washington has had one hell of a movie career, breaking out in the ‘80s and soon becoming one of the few Black actors to win an Academy Award at the time. But before he would become the first Black actor to win two Oscars, Denzel Washington had to go through some true crap. But that’s not us talking, that’s Denzel himself.
Speaking with The Times, Denzel Washington admitted that he spent a lot of the ‘90s making movies for the paycheck. “After Malcolm X I made some real clunkers. Look them up — I won’t say their names…They are all in the 1990s. But I was earning. I had responsibilities.” Denzel may not want to list any particular titles, but we can imagine the list includes The Pelican Brief, Virtuosity, Fallen, The Bone Collector,...

Denzel Washington is sharing his thoughts on the current political landscape in the United States.
The two-time Oscar-winning actor, who stars in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator II, was recently asked about the 2024 presidential election, which saw Donald Trump defeat Kamala Harris earlier this month. During his interview with The Sunday Times, editor Jonathan Dean also noted a specific line in Gladiator II that felt timely given the election: “Empires fall, so do emperors.”
“You know, it’s so easy to stand outside America and say this and that,” Washington, 69, said in response. “Turn around, you know? Pick a country. Any one.”
“But listen,” the Training Day actor continued. “It’s all politics. All promises unkept. And now with the information age the way it is — if anything — left, right, whatever had better learn how to use those tools to manipulate the people. There was a great line in the first movie I did,...

Denzel Washington recently admitted that his film choices following the release of Malcolm X in 1992 were not all hits. The biographical film, which became a critical and cultural touchstone, served as a tribute to the legendary black activist and leader, Malcolm X. Washington's portrayal earned him widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers alike. However, after the success of this career-defining role, Washington acknowledged that some of his subsequent films did not fare as well.
In an interview with The Times, Washington explained that the years following Malcolm X were shaped by a need to balance his newfound fame with the practical realities of life. With a growing family and mounting responsibilities, he took on roles that provided financial stability, even if they didn't necessarily match the prestige earned from his earlier work. Check out what Washington said in his interview below:

Early on in Denzel Washington's brilliant career, he gave critics a preview of how he was going to play the movie star game going forward -- and they weren't pleased. In between making acclaimed dramas like "Cry Freedom," "Glory," and "Mississippi Masala," Washington cut loose and sought to build up some box office cred in formulaic action movies like "Heart Condition" and "Ricochet." Reviewers who viewed Washington as a major star in the making were disappointed with, if not aghast at, his choices. What a colossal waste of the man's time and talent, they reasoned, to run around in his boxer shorts after John Lithgow in full glazed ham mode. Then he'd go and make "Malcolm X," and everyone would hush up until a frivolity like "Virtuosity" dropped.

During the '90s, moviegoers were flooded with serial killer thrillers on a pretty frequent basis. At the time, Jolie was on fire! With hits like The Bone Collector and Girl, Interrupted, she was on her path to literal stardom. Columbia Pictures thought Charlie’s Angels would be the icing for her career. They rolled out the red carpet, pitching it hard. “When [Columbia Pictures] sent me the script for Charlie’s Angels, they said there hadn’t been perfect, strong roles for women, that it would make me a big star,...

The crime movie genre saw a complete reinvention in the 1990s, in no small part due to the success of The Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. It became clear to studio executives that the subgenre of serial killer thrillers had the potential to draw in a fairly wide audience. They had just enough mystery to engage with noir film buffs, but also contained the sort of graphic content that would appeal to more hardcore horror fans. It also became increasingly popular to adapt critically acclaimed novels, such as The Talented Mr. Ripley or Kiss The Girls, in order to give these films the notion of prestige. While it wasnt necessarily heralded as an instant classic, The Bone Collector was an underrated serial killer featuring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.

Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington were two of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood during the turn of the century, and it might be a puzzle for many fans how both of them landed on a mid-budget crime thriller movie. Director Phillip Noyce specifically picked Jolie and Washington for 1999’s The Bone Collector, but they weren’t the first choices.

If there was a decade that truly helped to shape the future of the crime thriller genre, it was undoubtedly the 1990s. The era churned out numerous movies that have become the benchmark for how to craft a movie about the hunt for a serial killer, or flashing femme fatales with a penchant for murder. Movies such as The Silence of the Lambs, Misery, Se7en and Basic Instinct set a benchmark for not only quality in the crime flick, but also by delivering iconic sequences that are synonymous within the genre. Lambs had Anthony Hopkins’ wonderful Chianti sipping performance, Misery gleefully smashed ankles, Se7en had the tragic head in a box scene, while Basic Instinct allowed Sharon Stone to show more than just her acting ability. The point is, by the time the movie we’re focusing on in this episode was released in 1999, audiences had preconceived expectations, thanks...

Following the success of Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991, Hollywood released an eight-year-long tidal wave of serial killer thrillers, each one pulpier than the last. This was the era of "Seven," "Copycat," "Along Came a Spider," "Jennifer 8," "See No Evil," "Eye of the Beholder," "Sliver," "Knight Moves," and any number of others. Right at the end of the decade came Phillip Noyce's 1999 thriller "The Bone Collector," based on the airport novel by Jeffery Deaver. Deaver's original novel was the first of the long-running Lincoln Rhyme series, a series that saw its 16th installment published in 2023. Lincoln Rhyme, thanks to a spinal accident, could not move his body below his neck, and fought crime from his bed, deducting details, looking at pictures, and relying on his team.
In the film adaptation, Denzel Washington played Lincoln Rhyme and Angelina Jolie played his plucky crime fighting partner Amelia Donaghy.

Angelina Jolie's recent return to action roles sets the stage for a possible comeback in the hit show Mr. and Mrs. Smith season 2. The show's expanding cast could benefit from Jolie's potential reprise as Mrs. Smith or in a new intriguing role within the series. Jolie's successful history in the action genre makes her a perfect fit for the show's smart and creative approach to storytelling.
Angelina Jolie's most recent movies saw her return to action roles and revisiting one role from a popular, $487 million action movie would complete the comeback. While she was largely away from acting from 2016 until 2020, that year saw her return to participate in four films over the next two years. Several of Angelina Jolie's roles in 2021 included a return to the action genre, something that she dominated earlier in her career.

Denzel Washington's movies have often had the potential for sequels, but he has focused primarily on standalone films throughout his career. Several of his action thrillers, such as Inside Man and The Bone Collector, could have easily become successful franchises, but attempts to make sequels have not come to fruition. While some of his movies, like The Little Things and Devil in a Blue Dress, hint at the possibility of sequels, they have never been developed into long-running franchises.

The following post contains spoilers for "Salt."
The 2010 film "Salt" stars Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy. The movie, directed by Phillip Noyce, reveals that she is one, but there is far more to it than simply that. She's been working as a double agent, set up to spy for Russia and waiting to be activated, but things have happened since she was put as a child into a secret Russian program. She's met a man (August Diehl), fallen in love, and gotten married. She's built herself a life. Oh, and then there was the reason she was made a Russian sleeper agent in the first place.
The ending reveals that she wasn't the only Russian child spy and that someone she never suspected is one as well. While the first thing you remember about "Salt" is likely the fuss...

“Trust no one.” That bit of advice is the cornerstone of every paranoid thriller, whether it’s The X-Files, 70s classics like Three Days of the Condor, or recent entries such as Get Out.
As a show about shape-shifting aliens, Secret Invasion should be able to excel at “trust no one” better than any of its predecessors. Nearly anyone can be a Skrull, even Tony Stark’s best friend Rhodey, a mainstay of the MCU since its beginning (albeit played by different actors).
And yet, four episodes in, Secret Invasion’s biggest mystery is about the nature of the show itself. Is this a thriller about secret agent Nick Fury uncovering a vast conspiracy? Is this a commentary about the insiders and outsiders in the American experiment? Is this a show about spies battling aliens?
One gets the sense that showrunner Kyle Bradstreet wants to say...

Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Escape Plan), Brian Van Holt (Joe vs. Carole), and Nora Zehetner (The Right Stuff) star in the serial killer thriller Boneyard, which is currently filming in Las Vegas. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Asif Akbar (The Commando) is directing the film and crafted the screenplay with Hank Byrd, Vincent E. McDaniel, and Koji Steven Sakai.
Said to be inspired by true events, Boneyard sees Gibson taking on the role of an FBI special agent who, along with the Albuquerque police department, is hunting for a serial killer nicknamed The Bone Collector. The chief of police and one of his officers, however, have a contrary view of the manhunt, believing someone in their own department may be the killer.
It should be noted that, despite the serial killer being called The Bone Collector, this doesn’t have anything to do with the serial killer thriller novel of that title,...
