The worst thing that could possibly happen to a Doctor Who fan is for the show to be cancelled again. Or for it to be broadcast again. Depends who you ask, really.
Despite the advent of the 15th Doctor and the anticipation that brings, there are nagging doubts abroad concerning the show’s future. And that’s fair enough, really. Some fans are just naturally pessimistic, some remember previous crushed hopes around Doctor Who’s wilderness years, and some just look at the state of TV streaming and feel that pessimism is a fairly realistic outlook. It’s also not unreasonable to be concerned that David Tennant is kicking around somewhere, especially given that it was raised by the host during Gatwa’s recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Then there are the folk who simply don’t like Russell T Davies’ writing on Doctor Who. A previous line...

This scene will likely not happen in the new show.
Doctor Who is going back to school. BBC announced today a new spin-off for the popular series, aimed at young adults, and written by noted Ya author Patrick Ness. Titled Class, the show will take place at Coal Hill School, historic location of the series, and feature the students facing threats from across space and time.
Set in contemporary London. Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best Ya fiction (Buffy, Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen it before.
Steven Moffat, who will executive-produce the show, says: “No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we’re bringing his brilliant storytelling into Doctor Who.

Ron doesn't see why Syfy's fun, good-looking sci-fi pilot, High Moon, didn't make it to series. There's plenty here to enjoy...
Once upon a time, you couldn't sneeze in the summer without hitting some sort of made-for-tv movie. Sometimes, they'd be specially made for the purpose of airing. Sometimes, they'd just be unused pilots that happened to be edited into a two-hour block to fill a little airtime. For every The Night Stalker, there was a Steel Magnolias, K-9 And Company, or a Riding With Death (which went on to fame via Mystery Science Theater 3000). In other words, the TV movie pilot doesn't always work out all that well. However, you have to give SyFy credit for trying to make something out of nothing with High Moon, the television pilot version of John Christopher's novel The Lotus Caves.

The countdown to the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special continues with a new teaser trailer for “The Day of the Doctor.” What does this teaser trailer reveal about the upcoming special? Well, nothing really. They don’t call it a teaser for nothing. But we do get to see a lot of cool visuals of past Doctors and a titillating voiceover by current Doctor Matt Smith.
“Our future depends on one single moment of one impossible day,” Smith tells us. “The day I’ve been running from all my life. The Day of the Doctor.”
Sure the trailer doesn’t tell us much other than the name of the special, which we already knew, but at least it gives us something to look at besides the six pictures we’ve been obsessing over for the last week. Those pictures showed the three Doctors that will be included in the special...

Warning: This article will contain some spoilers.
Over the course of fifty years, Doctor Who has birthed a number of spin-offs that followed the Doctor’s companions in their lives after leaving the Doctor. In terms of creating and selling new content, spin-offs are an obvious move for Doctor Who. It has an ever-changing cast and, over the course of their time with Doctor, the companions grow and become greater than they were before, with some becoming capable of following in the Doctor’s footsteps and fighting injustice wherever they find it. Which makes them perfect leading characters for similarly themed spin-offs.
As you’ll see, not every Doctor Who spin-off worked but despite a couple of clunkers, there’s a lot of good spin-off material to enjoy. So now with only three months until the 50th Anniversary, we continue our monthly countdown to it by looking back at Doctor Who’s spin-offs…...

Welcome to the first in a series of articles studying the characters of Doctor Who!
When Elisabeth Sladen died last year, I saw a post online that said, “It feels like the internet is crying.” That sounded about accurate. To generations of science fiction fans, Sladen had been The Doctor Who companion in the form of Sarah Jane Smith. That she was, by all accounts, a wonderful, lovely person made her passing all the sadder.
Sladen began her career as Ms. Smith alongside Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor in the introductory Sontaran story, 1973’s “The Time Warrior”. She was a journalist who had infiltrated Unit suspecting something sinister was afoot. Accordingly, she trusted no one, including the Doctor, and, indeed, genuinely feared him when he and her were sent back in time to the 12th century.
But by the end of the story, she’d come to trust the Doctor,...

Today it is with a heavy heart that all of us at Shadowlocked bit a fond farewell to one of science fiction’s finest, Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah Jane Smith in the long-running series Doctor Who. She passed away on April 19, 2011 of cancer. She was 63.
While Elisabeth did some film work, she primarily worked in theater and television. It wasn’t until Katy Manning – Jo Grant on Doctor Who – was preparing to leave, that Z-Cars producer Ron Craddock gave a rousing recommendation to Who producer Barry Letts to hire Sladen. She would become Third Doctor Jon Pertwee’s companion in The Time Warrior, and then go on for several series with Tom Baker, finally leaving after The Hand of Fear.
During her time in the Tardis, Sladen got to go up against Cybermen, meet Davros and see the beginnings of the Daleks. In 1981, she filmed a pilot for a spin-off series,...

This was... unexpected. Elisabeth Sladen, who played journalist Sarah Jane Smith alongside Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, and David Tennant on Doctor Who, and Matt Smith on her spinoff series The Sarah Jane Adventures, has died at 63. Apparently, she had been battling cancer and keeping it pretty quiet. Less than a month ago, another Doctor Who actor whom she had appeared on the series alongside, Nicholas Courtney, also died of cancer.
Sarah Jane seems to remain the most popular companion of the original run of the series. After Sladen left the show, she reprised the role in a TV pilot for a spinoff series, K-9 and Company, which didn't make it past the pilot. When her character was brought back to the revived series in the 2006 episode "School Reunion", she was enough of a hit to get another shot at a spinoff, The Sarah Jane Adventures, again with K-9.
I had no idea she was ill.

Ms. Sladen began her acting career in 1965, but is best know in the science fiction world by her character Sarah Jane Smith, an investigative journalist who first appeared in 1973 in the British science fiction series ‘Doctor Who’. She continued the role for three and a half years, leaving the series in 1976. The role never left her as she reprised it for an failed attempted spin-off called ‘K-9 and Company’ in 1981 and again for the 20th anniversary Doctor Who episode (aptly titled ‘The Five Doctors’). As the series apparently faded from the collective consciousness during the ‘dark-times’ of the late eighties up until the 2005 re-launch, Ms. Sladen was still involved in the ‘Doctor Who’ universe, participating in the 1993 Children in Need Special ‘Dimensions in Time’, the independently produced video ‘Downtime’, and several audio plays based on her character produced by Big Finish Productions. In 2005, with...

Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures is now in its fourth season on Cbbc.
Its star, Elisabeth Sladen, 62, has been playing the intrepid journalist on and off since 1973.
She first appeared as Sarah Jane Smith alongside Third Doctor Jon Pertwee, and remained in the show when Tom Baker stepped into the Tardis as the regenerated Fourth Doctor.
Sladen left the show in 1976, when the Doctor was summoned to his homeworld Gallifrey and could not take Sarah with him.
The character then appeared in the 1981 spin-off pilot K-9 and Company, in the 1983 anniversary episode The Five Doctors, in a 1993 Children in Need special and in the 1995 spin-off film Downtime.
