Jef has been wed to his nurse in hospital by the padre, who only informs the crew-mates later, so they decide to deliver a present and prank at their until then secret, but thus extremely exposed, beach honeymoon camp site. The base commander welcomes his wife back from rehab, although unannounced, even treats her to home-cooked dinner.

Team commander Bob gloomily prepares for his retirement party, which seems to go pear-shaped while he keeps missing missions on his last day of active duty. Kurt treats Jef to a sea fishing day, but his incompetence with he anchor finds them rescued. Jef joins Stef in hospital, but also finds a nurse as lover. A fire emergency cuts the surprise party in the town hall short.

Colonel De Jonge eagerly returns to Koksijde base to preside over a died in action diver's memorial sea reef ceremony. Learning that his chooses successor Peter's disciplinary obsession runs his squadron into the ground, as even best mate Stef preferred a transfer, De Jonge takes drastic measures.

The former CO, now colonel on the general staff, orders a favor to replace his former squadron's desk officer. Ronald discovers that Danny can't cope wit three exhausting jobs and abuses pills. Patrick plays a dirty trick on superstitious navigator Tom but fails to prevent Stef and his other crew-mates to go after a sea-dumped African stowaway's family aboard a Russian cargo ship. This latest illegal stunt forces Peter, who already becomes unpopular over enforcing fire safety procedures, to suspend Stef as crew captain.

Mostly grudgingly, one helicopter rescue crew spends the weekend on a mandatory survival dropping exercise, trying to avoid army crack units who can earn leave by catching them. While Kurt counts on his brothel friend to escape to a luxury hotel, his mate barely minds being caught after receiving the news his first son is born. Peter has every confidence in Stef, who is eager to prove himself worthy of a shot at a command grade, but when they risk being caught last-minute, the duos' daring abseiling goes tragically wrong. Bob's crew is diverted from their tedious task, transporting the CO's international guests while his lush wife is checked into rehab.

The commander orders the unamused crew to remain on call for two days of exercises with the gendarmerie (then Belgian paramilitary police), but they soon find out it's a covert operation. Demanding a formal briefing first, they learn it's to assist arresting drug dealers at sea during a contraband cargo loading. Both corps rival barely friendly, but cooperate well. Crew commander Govaerts is terrified when surveillance pictures show the exclusive jacket he bought his rascal son Lucas in the States, fearing he was dragged in by dodgy mate Sven.

The Belgian Air Force's Koksijde base helicopter rescue team celebrates diver Frans de Gruyter's 4000th flight hour with a surprise party. It's cut short by a fishery boat in trouble, but Frans looses his nerve, some equipment fails and weather conditions are appalling. The wounded victim dies, and commanding major De Jonghe questions everybody's performance.

After his friend fisherman Willem Van Rijn died at sea, diver Dirk faces a possible court martial charge for his failed rescue. He gets his mates' full support, unlike homeless Nick. Stef's attempt to patch up a bitch's relationship proves dangerous. Exercices must be interrupted for locals surprised by the flood with their inseparable dogs and even childbirth aboard a mail-boat.
