    • Trivia
Julia Roberts hand-picked both Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz for this film.
    • Goofs
Julianne has two pairs of sunglasses throughout the whole time she's at Kimmy's parents' estate, often wearing one pair while the other is hanging on her top button of her belly shirt. When she and Michael reach the gazebo and she takes off the sunglasses she's been wearing, one can see that she's holding two pairs.
    • Quotes

George Downes: The misery, the exquisite tragedy. The Susan Hayward of it all. I can just picture you there, sitting alone at your table in your lavender gown.

Julianne Potter: Did I tell you my gown was lavender?

George Downes: Hair swept up. Haven't touched your cake. Probably drumming your fingernails on the white linen tablecloth, the way you do when you're really feeling down. Perhaps looking at those nails thinking: 'God, I should have stopped in all my evil plotting to have that manicure, but it's too late now.

Julianne Potter: George, I didn't tell you my dress was lavender.

George Downes: Suddenly, a familiar song. And, you're off your chair in one, exquisite movement... wondering, searching, sniffing the wind like a dapple deer. Has God heard your little prayer? Will Cinderella dance again? And then, suddenly, the crowds part and there he is: sleek, stylish... radiant with charisma. Bizarrely, he's on the telephone. But then, so are you. And then he comes towards you... the moves of a jungle cat. Although you quite correctly sense that he is... gay... like most devastatingly handsome single men of his age are, you think... what the hell. Life goes on. Maybe there won't be marriage... maybe there won't be sex... but, by God, there'll be dancing.

    • Alternate versions
UK cinema version removes all profanity and inserts inoffensive replacements, most notably in the scene where Julianne explains tells Michael that George came from New York to f*** her.

    Featured review

Julia Roberts was made for her role in 'My Best Friend's Wedding'

My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) Julia Robert, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, Philip Bosco, M. Emmet Walsh, Rachel Griffiths, Carrie Preston, D: P.J. Hogan.

Roberts is a New York food critic who's best friends with sports writer Mulroney, and when he tells her he's marrying a rich blonde spitfire (Diaz), the best friend tries sabotaging their nuptials. Funny and smart romantic comedy gives a custom-made role for Roberts whose smile and infectious cackle make her sweet, and Everett steals the show as her editor/gay friend.

Running Time: 105 minutes and rated PG-13 for brief strong language and sex-related humor.
