Thunderbolts* Climbs at the Box Office, Will Shortly Pass This 28-Year-Old DC Disaster With an 11% Rt Score
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thunderbolts*is quickly on its way to surpassing what some may consider one of DC’s worst superhero movies ever. The latest MCU installment, led by Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, and Wyatt Russell, could pass 1997’s widely-panned Batman & Robin on a list of The Numbers’ top 100 superhero movies.

Thunderbolts*, from director Jake Schreier, easily took the top spot during its debut weekend and has quickly earned $86 million at the domestic box office. During its theatrical run 28 years ago, Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, starring George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell as the titular characters, earned $107 million.

At its current pace, there’s a high chance that this weekend’s haul could put Thunderbolts* ahead of the DC film that also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, and Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth.

A Desperate NBC Spent $13 Million Per Episode, Way More Than Even Game of Thrones, For George Clooney’s Medical Drama ‘ER’
Image
Back on September 19, 1994, NBC rolled the dice with ER, the medical drama that set the ’90s TV scene on fire. Critics couldn’t get enough of it, and viewers were hooked on the chaotic world of emergency rooms.

Fast forward to 2025, and with the streaming bubble long burst, nostalgia for good old-fashioned linear TV is making a comeback. Fans are craving the days of epic seasons, fewer breaks, and more drama in every episode. And guess what? The classic medical dramas are thus benefiting, basking in the spotlight!

It turns out, what was once “old TV” is now exactly what the people want. But when NBC launched ER, they didn’t just throw together another show, they spent a staggering $13 million per episode, outspending even Game of Thrones at the time. And the result was a show that not only made George Clooney a household name but also helped redefine what TV could be.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Starred In One Of IMDb's Worst-Rated Movies Ever
Image
If you know anything about Arnold Schwarzenegger, or even if you've just seen "Pumping Iron," you'll know that the man is used to winning. This is a guy who left his small Austrian town to become arguably the greatest bodybuilder in history, before transitioning to Hollywood where he became the biggest star in the world, only to then become governor of California.

Within all those accomplishments, there are countless other achievements that nobody, let alone a kid from the small village of Thal, Austria, could hope to match. Taking just his acting career, he starred in one of two sci-fi movies to be considered "perfect" by Rotten Tomatoes before fronting a sequel that today is revered as perhaps the finest action movie ever made with "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." Schwarzenegger also proved he could be just as entertaining in family-friendly fare, from "Kindergarten Cop" to his 1996 Christmas movie "Jingle All The Way,...

The 10 Best Animated Batman Movies, Ranked
Image
If you look at a lot of the best films in the superhero genre, a common denominator is Batman. The Caped Crusader's 80+ year legacy makes him one of the comic book heroes most open for interpretation. Different filmmakers have produced widely different, yet equally excellent, Batman movies. 1966's "Batman: The Movie" is a camp classic. "Batman Returns" is a gothic German Expressionist melodrama only Tim Burton could have made. Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" and Matt Reeves' "The Batman" are both fantastic crime dramas with big ideas most superhero movies don't even reach for.

But it'd be a big mistake to leave animation out of this conversation. "Batman: The Animated Series" is generally considered the finest Batman adaptation ever, proof positive the Dark Knight can excel on film no matter the medium. There are also many more animated Batman movies than live-action ones at this point. Many of them...

15 Actors Who Saved Terrible Movies
Image
When it rains, it pours -- especially in terms of terrible movies. Like bleach, they burn into your retinas and seep all the way to the brain, refusing to let anyone forget about what they just watched. It's not all doom and gloom, though. Even in the darkest days, there's a shining light, a twinkle of redemption, an actor who makes the whole ordeal that much more bearable.

Valiantly, saviors like Raul Julia in "Street Fighter" and Uma Thurman in "Batman & Robin" gallop onto the screen to defend the honor of cinema from the misdeeds committed by their respective movies. They fight for the audience, helping to turn mayhem into magic (if only for the times they're on screen) and bring joy to the joyless.

So, let us salute the brave soldiers who never gave up when others clearly did. Let us acknowledge the actors who saved terrible movies.

Ben Affleck ‘Hated’ Suiting Up to Play Batman: ‘The Batsuits Are Horrendous to Wear … They Don’t Breathe’
Image
It must be exhausting to fight all that crime in a skin-tight suit. Ben Affleck opened up about the difficulties of costuming during his tenure as Batman, giving GQ a detailed breakdown on the physically draining experience of wearing a Batsuit.

“I hated the Batsuits. The Batsuits are horrendous to wear,” Affleck said. “They’re hot for one thing. They don’t breathe. They’re made to look the way they want them to look. There’s no thought put into the human being. So what happens is that you just start sweating. I’m already — I sweat, you know what I mean? So in that thing, you’d just be pouring water.”

“It just made it difficult to make the movie, because you’re so hot. It also does not make you feel very heroic, because you’re instantly exhausted and really sweaty,” Affleck continued, chuckling. “Maybe Christian [Bale] or Rob [Pattinson], guys like that,...

George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alicia Silverstone, Uma Thurman, and Chris O'Donnell in Batman & Robin (1997)
Ain’t It Cool News goes down, likely not coming back this time
George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alicia Silverstone, Uma Thurman, and Chris O'Donnell in Batman & Robin (1997)
The (in)famous film website Ain’t It Cool News goes offline, 29 years after it first launched. More on the story here.

One of the original movie websites, and certainly the highest profile, was Ain’t It Cool News, often shortened to AICN. Launched all the way back in the mid-1990s, there was a brief window of time where it became a huge thing in Hollywood, at a point where movie studios were failing to understand the internet.

It attracted some really good writers, not least including screenwriter C Robert Cargill, although it was ultimately built around the personality of its founder, Harry Knowles. His style of writing went very much against that of the time, as did reports of test screenings, giving the first hints that movies such as Batman & Robin and Speed 2: Cruise Control were not on the good side.

Knowles became something of a Hollywood celebrity,...

Everything to know about ‘The Batman 2’: Returning cast, filming delays, title change
Image
Director Matt Reeves' version of The Batman hit theaters in 2022 and jump-started the post-covid box office with a dynamic $369 million domestic and $772 million worldwide. Critics were enraptured by Robert Pattinson's darker, grittier, noir-style caped crusader, giving the DC Studios movie an 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 72 score on Metacritic — not too shabby for a comic-book character who's been skulking around Gotham City since 1939.

With every successful blockbuster comes the inevitable sequel announcement, and The Batman was no different. But ever since being green-lit by Warner Bros., the follow-up has been hampered with production hiccups and delayed at least a year on the release schedule. Read on for everything to know about The Batman 2.

The announcement

Mere months after The Batman was released in March 2022, the sequel was officially announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. Pattinson would return as reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne who fought crime as the gruff-voiced Batman,...

A Sylvester Stallone Sci-Fi Flop Nearly Became An Action-Horror Movie Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger
Image
It took a long time for Sylvester Stallone to play a comic book hero. The man became an instant star with his self-written "Rocky" in 1976 and spent the following decade and a half becoming one of Hollywood's pre-eminent action heroes, alongside his longtime rival Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sly and Schwarzenegger were the epitome of the ultra-masculine action heroes we associate with the '80s, but throughout that entire decade and the first half of the '90s, neither played a superhero on-screen.

Schwarzenegger wouldn't end up taking the comic book movie plunge until 1997, when he was guilted into playing Mr. Freeze in the historic blunder that was "Batman & Robin." But Sly actually made his superhero debut prior to that, starring as the titular judge in 1995's "Judge Dredd," the most nonsensical science fiction movie to predict our terrifying present. Following what was the first of several career lows in the late-'80s and early-'90s,...

Top 10 Val Kilmer Movie Performances, Ranked
Val Kilmer
Val Kilmer was a truly unique actor, movie star, and personality, as his uncompromising approach to the craft of acting resulted in a great deal of versatility. Although Kilmer emerged as a heartthrob when his performance in “Real Genius” (1985) came at the tail end of the “Brat Pack” era, he quickly began showing signs of greater ambition, as he would often challenge himself with dramatic physical and emotional transformations. Kilmer was incredibly well read and cared deeply about the history of storytelling. As a former theater star, he dedicated a good portion of his career to the works of Mark Twain.

Kilmer’s health struggles resulted in him taking a backseat from the spotlight in recent years, but that doesn’t mean that he failed to keep working. The powerful 2021 documentary “Val” offered an intimate look at his life and career, examining how he was at odds with the perception attached to him.

Image
The fate of 9-1-1 on ABC has been revealed. Fortunately for fans of the series, it's been confirmed that the show will be coming back to ABC for another season.

Per Variety, 9-1-1 has been renewed for Season 9. It was one of several shows given a renewal order that was announced on Thursday, joining other popular series like The Rookie, Grey's Anatomy, Will Trent, and Shifting Gears. Previously, ABC had doled out renewals for Abbott Elementary and High Potential for the next TV season. This leaves Doctor Odyssey on the bubble, still in danger of getting canceled.

The news of 9-1-1 getting renewed comes after it was announced that another spinoff series is in development. While the network has not ordered any new pilots for the new TV season, ABC gave a new 9-1-1 offshoot a straight-to-series order. Called 9-1-1: Nashville, the show will move the story over to Nashville,...

Real Reason Why Val Kilmer Quit Playing Batman After ‘Batman Forever’

Val Kilmer suiting up as Batman in Batman Forever (1995) should’ve been the start of something legendary. No sequel, no farewell, just a sudden switch that left fans asking: what really happened?

The baby-faced blonde actor had a solid run as a leading man with a volatile reputation in the ’80s and ’90s, starring in “Top Gun,” “Real Genius,” “Willow,” “Heat,” and “The Saint.” He returned briefly to screens in 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick” although he could no longer speak due to his cancer.

In 2021, a documentary on his life, “Val,” was released. His son provided the actor’s voice and the film utilized hundreds of hours of video he had recorded over the years,...

Uma Thurman Has Surprisingly Wholesome Feelings About Batman & Robin
Image
Joel Schumacher's 1997 superhero film "Batman & Robin" is one of the more notorious — and perhaps one of the most important — entries in the whole of Batman media. Schumacher infamously ratcheted up his film's camp factor, including super-corny dialogue, ultra-cartoonish action sequences, garish neon colors, and the silliest characters seen in a Batman film in eight years. This was a dramatic flip from Tim Burton's Batman films from 1989 and 1992, which were shadowy, tragic, and dour. Schumacher had already introduced his more kid-friendly Batman aesthetic with "Batman Forever" in 1995, but "Batman & Robin" was one toke over the line. Critics hated it, audiences rejected it, and it bombed so hard (its $238 million box office was considered small at the time) that another Batman film wouldn't be released in theaters until 2005.

Uma Thurman played the snarling villainess Poison Ivy in "Batman & Robin," and she was one of the few to escape from the film unscathed.

Giancarlo Esposito’s Mr. Freeze Dream Could Make Him Perfect for Rocksteady’s Next Batman Game if They Reprise the Role
Image
Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham franchise is like one of the seven wonders of the world. The entire series is an absolute treat to play, and many consider it one of the best franchises in the entire gaming industry. But fans of the series don’t just love it for its gameplay or narrative; another major element that brought the series to success is its villains.

Rocksteady gave the villains in the Arkham universe a new life, from Joker to Bane, each antagonist in the main storyline is written accurately to the comics. There is one such antagonist that has one of the most tragic backstories and is one of our favorite villains.

Of course, we are talking about Mr. Freeze, and the good news is that Giancarlo Esposito is setting his sights on playing Mr. Freeze in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Captain America: Brave New World Star Giancarlo Esposito Wants To Play Batman Villain Mr. Freeze
Image
Since stealing the show as the twisted Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, Giancarlo Esposito has played many a villain. Most recently, he's starred in The Electric State and Captain America: Brave New World. In the latter, he suited up as Serpent Society leader Sidewinder.

Fans were disappointed to see the actor "wasted" on such a minor character in the MCU, especially after years of fan casts suggesting he suit up as Magneto or Mister Sinister, for example.

Could Esposito get a second chance in the Dcu? It wouldn't be overly surprising, and the actor has now thrown his hat into the ring for Batman villain Mr. Freeze. The character has been rumoured to appear on screen for several years now, both in Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise and The Brave and the Bold.

At this point, casting The Mandalorian star as a baddie feels a little too predictable and arguably...

‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Alum Chris O’Donnell Joins ‘9-1-1’ Spinoff ‘9-1-1: Nashville’
Image
After spending 14 seasons as Grisha “G” Callen on CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles,” actor Chris O’Donnell is returning to television to lead the cast of ABC’s “9-1-1: Nashville,” the second spinoff series from the network’s flagship drama “9-1-1.”

The new iteration received a straight to series order and will help fill the void left by the cancellation of “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which ended its five season run last month on Fox.

According to Deadline, O’Donnell will play Captain Don Sharpe, described as a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Although a devoted husband and family man, Don has secrets he’d like to remain that way.

Written and executive produced by the franchise’s co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear and “9-1-1: Lone Star” showrunner Rashad Raisani, the show is set to premiere sometime during the 2025-2026 television season,...

Giancarlo Esposito Wants to Play Batman Villain Mr. Freeze in the Dcu
Image
Giancarlo Esposito has a catalog of chilling characters in his acting roster, having famously starred as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, and Stan Edgar in The Boys. He also recently made his MCU debut as Sidewinder in Captain America: Brave New World, but it seems like he isn't quite done with his evil escapades (or superheroes for that matter), as he has now expressed interest in joining James Gunn's Dcu in another villainous role – and he knows exactly who he wants to play.

Speaking to IGN at FanExpo Cleveland, Esposito revealed that he would like to join the Dcu as the iconic Batman villain Mr. Freeze. The Caped Crusader's frosty foe was notably played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin, but the character's focus on ice-related puns and throwaway one-liners made the portrayal not nearly as dark...

Every Superhero Movie On IMDb's 100 Lowest-Rated Movies List
Image
Long before Marvel Studios started struggling with its Marvel Cinematic Universe (which might be better left to die at this point) there were some historic superhero movie missteps. The first real superhero blockbuster, 1978's "Superman" remains one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, but even that birthed some seriously questionable sequels, thereby setting a precedent for the best and worst superhero films to come.

In the years since Christopher Reeve's Supes convinced audiences of the late-70s that a man could fly, we have had some downright abject superhero outings. When done right, these films can offer the ultimate escapist fantasy, tapping into our collective inner child and taking us on rapturous thrill-rides through our own imaginations. Or, they can be "Black Adam." I kid ... sort of. The problem exemplified by that notoriously underwhelming DC effort is that these films can often just be lazy, formulaic,...

Heath Ledger Was Considered For Another Major Batman Role Before The Joker
Image
Heath Ledger's passing in 2008, when he was only 28 years old, stands as one of the most tragic cultural losses in living memory. Ledger was on the rise as a leading man, and he wanted to supplement his acting career with directing, a la Clint Eastwood or Robert Redford. Saddest of all, he passed mere months before "The Dark Knight" premiered and never got to bask in the praise of his titanic performance as the Joker.

The idea that Ledger "lost himself" in the Joker is an urban myth, but his performance was a committed and transformative one. His voice is unrecognizable, and he added his own details to the Joker — like licking his scarred lips, or leaving traces of make-up on his fingers — to make the larger-than-life villain feel like a real person.

Ledger has and will continue to be remembered for the Joker. It's not a bad legacy!

10 bad DC Movies that shouldn't have been allowed to happen
Image
There have been a lot of rough DC Comics movies but which ones are truly the worst of the worst?

DC started early on the superhero movie trend with 1978’s Superman and later 1989’s Batman. However, despite successes like Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the Dceu faltered compared to the MCU. Somehow, Warner Bros and DC couldn’t make it all work right and it all came to a lame ending.

There have been some pretty poor to outright bad movies based on DC Comics such as Batman v Superman or The Flash. However, there are several films that stand out for how truly awful they are and leave us thinking they shouldn't have happened. They waste great casts and story potential while also being just flat-out terrible movies.

Here are how the ten worst DC Comics movies rank and marvel (no pun intended) on how badly they botched these characters.

90 Years Of Canon Will Be Realigned With New History Of The DC Universe
Image
Throughout the vast history of DC Comics, there has been a plethora of reboots to the canon, and exponentially more additions to character's development and backstories. With stories and characters that aren't too far from being one hundred years old, they're bound to get a bit convoluted. Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, New 52, and Doomsday Clock all rebooted the DC Comics universe to some degree. Multiverse stories that take place outside the main universe and Earth Prime are also considered canon because the multiverse is considered canon. You dive too far into that, and it can definitely become confusing.

Mark Waid is here to set the record straight.

In a new series called New History of the DC Universe, Mark Waid is going to establish exactly what is canon to the heroes we know and love over at DC. He sounds like he's incredibly excited about the project too.

The new Batman State Farm commercial really caught people off guard. The ad, titled “Batman vs. Bateman,” featured Jason Bateman as a second-rate vigilante named Bateman, while the real Batman operates in the background. It’s amazing how the commercial managed to deliver such comic-accurate versions of Batman and his rogues’ gallery, more than some actual movies have.

However, the highlight goes to the actor who played Batman, a stunt performer with experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans can not stop praising the comic-accurate portrayal of Gotham City’s most infamous character.

'NCIS: Los Angeles' Star Chris O’Donnell Joins '9-1-1: Nashville'
Image
The 9-1-1 franchise is expanding once again, and this time it is recruiting one of the main stars of a beloved NCIS spinoff. Chris O’Donnell, who starred in NCIS: Los Angeles, is joining an offshoot of the ABC drama that will take place in a new location, Nashville, Tennessee. Despite 9-1-1: Lone Star failing to get off the ground, it seems the network is keen on making 9-1-1 a multi-series universe. It certainly helps to do that by adding one of the genre's most familiar faces.

According to Variety, O'Donnell will lead 9-1-1-: Nashville as Captain Don Sharpe, “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.” The ABC series was announced in February and is set to premiere during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. It is unclear...

Image
“9-1-1: Nashville” has found its leading man in Chris O’Donnell.

The “NCIS: Los Angeles” actor joins the ABC series as Captain Don Sharpe, who is described as “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son,” according to official character description. While Don is described as a “devoted husband and family man,” “he has his secrets,” the description teases.

Actor Chris O’Donnell has been in the industry for several decades now with work spanning across different genres. While this is the situation today, in the 90s his Hollywood career was under a serious threat after some of his movies underperformed at the box office. However, in 2000 everything changed when he appeared in the movie Vertical Limit, which not only created magic on the screen.

“Chris has every friend he’s made since the delivery room”: NCIS: LA Star Chris O’Donnell’s Strong Religious Values Protected Him From Hollywood Corruption

There are two kinds of actors in Hollywood, those who make headlines for their movies and those who make headlines for everything but their movies. Chris O’Donnell belongs firmly in the first camp. Despite spending decades in the entertainment industry, he has managed to avoid the scandals, outbursts, and inexplicable social media rants that seem to plague so many of his colleagues.

While his peers were making headlines for their wild parties and regrettable tattoo choices, O’Donnell was busy being…well, normal. And that might just be his most impressive feat yet. Raised in a big Catholic family in suburban Chicago, he brought his Midwestern values to Hollywood and never let go.

Sylvester Stallone Nearly Played A Live-Action Batman Opposite Mark Hamill's Joker
Image
In the early 2000s, Sylvester Stallone was arguably at the lowest point of his career. Having written himself into Hollywood with "Rocky" in 1976, the actor had gone on to redefine action movies as one of the most significant action stars of the '80s. When 1988's "Rambo III" and 1990's "Rocky V" failed to connect with audiences and critics, however, it seemed his time in the spotlight might have been waning. It didn't help that his longtime rival Arnold Schwarzenegger tricked him into appearing in the flop "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot" in 1992.

In spite of this, the always resilient actor found his way back to relevancy by starring in 1993's "Cliffhanger". That same year, he also starred opposite Wesley Snipes in the box office hit "Demolition Man," which isn't remembered quite as fondly as his rock climbing actioner but was a commercial success that has garnered somewhat of...

All 12 Batman actors ranked from worst to best
Image
There is no bigger comic book character than Batman. The Caped Crusader is so iconic that he transcends his genre, earning the “super” in “superhero” without even having super-powers. There aren’t many who can do that, and it showcases what a force-to-be-reckoned-with he has become over the years.

First introduced in Detective Comics in 1939, The Dark Knight was introduced as billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, who became a crime-fighting vigilante known as The Batman by night. From that standpoint, not much has changed for the DC Comics hero, but he has evolved in so many other ways in the near-century since then.

Batman’s enduring appeal has seen him headline countless comic books throughout the decades, but it was his arrival on both the big and small screens that catapulted him into the mainstream. Since then, there have been over 10 Batman movies and countless TV shows (both animated and live-action...

Batman & Robin Star Arnold Schwarzenegger Returns As Mr. Freeze For A Chillingly Realistic Hot Toys Figure
Image
Batman & Robin was released in 1997, 5 years after Tim Burton's critically acclaimed Batman Returns. The movie, starring George Clooney as the Dark Knight, could not have been any more different from what Burton set out to do less than a decade earlier.

After Batman Forever, Joel Schumacher embraced the campiness and toyetic nature of the Caped Crusader's world. The result was a movie that's still widely considered one of the worst comic book adaptations ever (it was something of a commercial success but ended its box office run behind its similarly daft predecessor).

As with most things Batman-related, Batman & Robin has its fair share of fans and Hot Toys has now unveiled its Mr. Freeze figure based on Arnold Schwarzenegger's iconic version of the villain.

The likeness is incredible and, for those of you who really love this take on the character, the pricier deluxe version even includes Freeze's glider wings.

Tim Burton's Batman Universe Is Introducing A Beloved DC Villain More Than 35 Years Later
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

More than 35 years later, DC is returning to the world of Tim Burton's "Batman" for a brand new adventure. While we're not going to see Michael Keaton suit up as the Caped Crusader on screen again, Penguin Random House is publishing a brand new novel titled "Batman: Revolution" that takes place in the continuity of Burton's films. Notably, this new book will introduce a new version of a classic villain -- The Riddler.

Written by John Jackson Miller, this new novel serves as a follow-up to last year's "Batman: Resurrection," which filled in the gaps between "Batman" and "Batman Returns." As was first revealed by Comicbook.com, "Revolution" is due to hit shelves on October 28, 2025 and will similarly look to fill in some gaps in the Burton universe. The synopsis for the novel helps set the table for what's...
