Trainspotting

“The weight just f***ing fell off!”: Ewan McGregor Switched From Beer to Gin to Lose an Absurd Amount of Body Mass for $72M Cult-Classic
Image
Ewan McGregor might be popularly known for playing the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise, but one of the most defining roles of his career has been as Mark Renton in the 1996 black comedy Trainspotting. The cult classic follows a group of heroin addicts in Edinburgh as they struggle to break free from addiction.

McGregor’s character, Renton, is an unemployed man deeply entrenched in heroin use. To prepare for the physically demanding role, McGregor had to lose a significant amount of weight. One unusual method he adopted was switching from beer to gin.

How Ewan McGregor got in ‘shape’ for his role in Trainspotting

Ewan McGregor went to great lengths to prepare for his role in Trainspotting, a role that the filmmakers and producers had entrusted to him with confidence. “Give me a couple of months and I’ll be ready,” were his words after reading...

Jirí Bartoska, Czech Actor and Longtime Karlovy Vary Film Festival President, Dies at 78
Image
Jirí Bartoska, a major star of pre-Velvet Revolution Czech theater, TV and film who helped save the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival before serving as its president and public face for decades, died Thursday. He was 78.

Bartoska died in Prague following a long battle with lung cancer, Kviff executive director Krystof Mucha told The Hollywood Reporter.

Bartoska was born on March 24, 1947 — just months after the inaugural Karlovy Vary International Film Festival — in Decín, Czechoslovakia. Upon graduating from high school, he enrolled at the Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno to pursue a career in theater, and he was a student there when the Soviet occupation of the country began in 1968.

While at Janacek, Bartoska began visiting Karlovy Vary, a Bohemian spa town — also known by its German name of Carlsbad — some 70 miles outside of Prague. One such visit led to him being cast by director Frantisek Vlácil...

HBO's 'Lanterns' Actor Reveals Exciting Production Update for Dcu Show
Image
HBO's long-awaited Green Lantern series is currently in production, and it seems filming is moving forward smoothly without any major hiccups. Lanterns, which stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, is the first live-action series set in James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe, which debuts on the big screen this summer with Superman. The True Detective-inspired show follows two Green Lanterns investigating a murder mystery in America's heartland, which could have major repercussions for the rest of the Dcu.

During an interview with Forbes, Jason Ritter, who plays Billy Macon in Lanterns, revealed the current production status for the upcoming HBO series. He confirmed that Lanterns was halfway through filming its first season, with four episodes completed thus far. Additionally, he reveals that it is a "really well-written, really fun show," the latter of which is in contrast to how the grounded sci-fi drama has been described thus far. Ritter's...

Ben Affleck Picks 'Armageddon' as His Favorite Career Moment
Image
There's no denying that Ben Affleck has been in a lot of great movies over the last 30 years. From Good Will Hunting and Gone Girl, to The Town and Air, he's seemingly done it all in his career, but if you were to ask The Accountant 2 star which moment is his favorite, his answer might surprise you.

Appearing on an episode of Criterion's Closet Picks, Affleck picked a number of the movies he holds in high regard. Miller's Crossing, Badlands, Trainspotting, and The Elephant Man were just a few he chose, but when he noticed a copy of Armageddon sitting on the shelf, it was then that he divulged the Michael Bay disaster flick featured some of the best work of his career. Not in the actual movie itself, but on the commentary track he recorded for the special features. "I was surprised when I heard Criterion was doing Armageddon,...

Danny Dyer in Marching Powder (2025)
Marching Powder (2025) Movie Review: The First Defining Film of The Keir Starmer Era of Britain
Danny Dyer in Marching Powder (2025)
Marching Powder (2025) is British icon Danny Dyer’s return to the big screen with past collaborator Nick Love, and it’s also the first film that has felt reflective of Keir Starmer’s Britain. A crushed velvet, hyper machismo, misanthropic ninety minutes that is as dull as it is mean-spirited and dated. The film follows Jack Jones (Dyer), a forty-year-old grumpy cocaine addicted football hooligan who is now forced to turn his life around after all his violent, misanthropic behaviour and substance abuse catch up to him.

He gets told by a judge he has six weeks to become a new man, or he gets thrown into jail. His wife left him, taking the kids. What follows is a film that feels repetitive, dated, and cynical to a fault. For a comedy, it’s not very funny. It’s mean-spirited in the most boring way possible. The anger the film...

Black Mirror (2011)
Black Mirror series 7 episode 4: Plaything review
Black Mirror (2011)
An eccentric loner tells tales about 90s videogame journalism in a grungy procedural LSD trip. Here’s our Black Mirror: Plaything review.

The fourth episode of Black Mirror’s seventh season, Plaything, starts with a spot of thievery. Peter Capaldi’s Cameron – sporting stringy, elbow-length hair immediately marking him out as a wrong ‘un – tries to steal a bottle of wine from an off-license. Tsk tsk.

Thankfully for the forces of law and order, he’s not very good at it. When police arrive and detain him under “the Bio Identity Act 2029”, we learn he has no previous convictions. We also learn he’s wanted for a murder in 1994. Wrong ‘un indeed.

On arrival for questioning in the local police station, Cameron regales the rozzers with a story from his time as a games journalist in the early nineties, and the mysterious not-quite-a-game he was once tasked with reviewing…

Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Ji-young Yoo, Jay Ellis, Angus Cloud, Normani, Jack Champion, DeMario Symba Driver, and Dominique Thorne in Freaky Tales (2024)
Freaky Tales (2024) Movie Review: Scattershot Anthology Film Is Intermittently Entertaining, But Short On Surprises
Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Ji-young Yoo, Jay Ellis, Angus Cloud, Normani, Jack Champion, DeMario Symba Driver, and Dominique Thorne in Freaky Tales (2024)
Freaky Tales” (2024) is a movie that feels entirely unsuited for what cinema looks like in 2025, and it still would have felt antiquated had it not been held from release after its initial debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024. Although this anthology of Oakland crime stories takes place in 1987, its style is unquestionably influenced by the wave of 1990s independent films that used sharp dialogue and twisty storylines to engage in pulp sensibilities; the comparisons to be made with “Reservoir Dogs,” “Boyz n the Hood,” and “Trainspotting” are too innumerable to note.

However, the most glaring factor in “Freaky Tales” is how strange it feels as a theatrical experience. While there have been countless prestige miniseries from buzzy streaming services made in the last few years that could have been edited into much stronger films, “Freaky Tales” is the rare example of a narrative that would have been better suited for the small screen.

The film follows a group of heroin addicts hailing from an economically depressed area of Scotland. In the film, McGregor played one of the addicts. Therefore, he had to drastically reduce his weight to prepare for the part.

"It Doesn't Lack Its Sci-Fi Magic": 'Lanterns' Director Teases the Vibe of the Newest DC TV Series [Exclusive]
Image
British director James Hawes has made his mark on the TV landscape, with projects ranging from Doctor Who to Slow Horses. His next project is something entirely different: Lanterns, the new Max series that will bring two of DC Comics' iconic heroes down to Earth. While discussing his new film, The Amateur, with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Hawes spoke about his vision for the series, and how he came to direct the project, saying, "I’ve worked with the team at HBO Max three times before. I set up Snowpiercer with Sarah Aubrey and Joey Chavez, and I'd worked with them on The Alienist and Raised by Wolves." He continued:

"There is a very particular humor that they brought to this. It's very rooted in a way that I like to think we achieve with Slow Horses, that I achieve with things like my Black Mirror's, and yet there...

‘Drained’ VOD Review #2
Image
Stars: Ruaridh Aldington, Angela Dixon, Craig Conway, Madalina Bellarui Ion, Andrew Lyle-Pinnock, Natasha Patel, Andrew Lee Potts | Written by Peter Stylianou | Directed by Peter Stylianou, Sean Cronin

Drained, directed by Sean Cronin and Peter Stylianou, is a vampire flick that sinks its teeth into the jugular of toxic relationships, addiction, and the perils of living with your mum in neon-drenched London. It’s a film that asks the age-old question: what happens when you fall for a mysterious woman who turns out to be a vampire?

Spoiler alert: the answer involves a lot of blood, questionable life choices, and a surprising amount of emotional heft for a movie that occasionally feels like it was shot on a budget of £150 and a pissed-up fever dream. Let’s dive into this gloriously messy, surprisingly poignant, and intermittently hilarious horror romance, shall we?

HBO's Green Lantern Series Reportedly Adds 'Matlock' Star Jason Ritter
Image
HBO's Green Lanternseries has added another face, this time from a new television drama that has been making waves in the ratings scene. Set in the DC Universe, Lanterns follows Aaron Pierrer and Kyle Chandler as John Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively, as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. If a new report is to be trusted, then one of the cast members from the hit CBS remake Matlock is set to join the first live-action series from the Dcu.

According to The InSneider, Jason Ritter has joined Lanterns and will play the husband of Kelly Macdonald's character, Sheriff Kerry, who was previously described as "a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town." It's unclear how significant Ritter's role will be, but there is a chance there is more than meets the eye as the Green Lantern duo looks to solve an alien conspiracy.

‘Marching Powder’ Review
Image
Stars: Danny Dyer, Stephanie Leonidas, Calum MacNab, Dean Harrison, Arty Dyer, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Phillip Ray Tommy | Written and Directed by Nick Love

Danny Dyer reteams with director Nick Love for Marching Powder, a sweary geezer comedy-drama that feels like a throwback (or should that be a dragback?) to the early ’00s. It marks their fifth collaboration – following Goodbye Charlie Bright (2001), The Football Factory (2004), The Business (2005) and Outlaw (2005), as well as Dyer’s return to the big screen after a ten-year absence.

In some ways, Marching Powder could be seen as a sequel to The Football Factory, since Dyer once again plays a coke-snorting (the title is a euphemism for cocaine), c-word-dropping part-time football hooligan. The difference is, well, he’s a lot older this time around, and the film does a decent job of questioning his life choices.

Dyer plays Jack Jones, a 45-year-old geezer who still indulges in coke...

‘Toxic Town’ Series Cast And Character Guide
Image
Netflix’s latest British miniseries, Toxic Town is centered around the real-life legal battle between the Corby Borough Council and the townsfolk whose children suffered birth deformities due to toxic waste pollution resulting from deliberate neglect and mismanagement by the authorities involved in the steel plant land reclamation. As the makers decide to approach the narrative from the perspective of the victim’s families and the residents of the industrial town, it is important to note that maternal figures gained prominence – the ones who were most affected/ blamed for a predicament beyond their control, as patriarchal society functioned that way, and still does. Aside from this aspect, the series also focuses on the bureaucratic corruption which preys on the socioeconomic vulnerabilities of small townships and ends up ruining the future of upcoming generations in diabolically selfish pursuits.

HBO's Green Lantern Series Unveils First Look At Hal Jordan & John Stewart
Image
HBO's Green Lantern series has unveiled the first look at the titular intergalactic cops, and they look straight out of True Detective. Lanterns stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, two of the most iconic members of the Green Lantern Corps from the source material. The upcoming Dcu series, which has been described as a boots-on-the-ground story about an alien conspiracy, is now in production. If the general vibe HBO is going for is indeed a gritty prestige drama, it's safe to say they nailed it so far.

HBO and Max released the first official image from the production of Lanterns, which is currently underway. And while the Green Lantern duo are not in their superhero outfits, both John Stewart and Hal Jordan seem to be sporting their power rings. While Pierre looks young and spry as John, Chandler perfectly embodies the veteran appearance of Hal.

Exclusive Trailer for Allan Moyle’s The Rubber Gun Resurrects Canadian Drug-Pushers
Image
Canadian International Pictures, sister company to the great Arbelos Films, takes upon itself the noble mission of restoring and releasing lesser-seen films from up north. Their next project is a film I’d frankly never heard of, but upon watching a trailer for its restoration I can’t see it soon enough: Allan Moyle’s The Rubber Gun stars Stephen Lack (Scanners) as a Montreal drug-pusher whose makeshift family is put under threat. Ahead of bicoastal premieres––Los Angeles’ American Cinematheque on March 6 (with a Moyle Q&a) and New York’s Roxy Cinema on March 11 (where Lack will do a Q&a on March 15)––we’re pleased to exclusively debut said trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: “Charismatic painter Steve (Scanners star Stephen Lack) has carved out a reputation as Montreal’s premiere drug connection, trafficking narcotics with a crew of friends (and lovers) living as a makeshift ‘family’ on the fringes of society.

21 Years Later, This Historical Drama Remains One of the Most Controversial WWII Movies Ever Made
Image
Cinema, being as powerful an art form as it is, is no stranger when it comes to taking on controversial or taboo topics. American History X took on neo-Nazism and white supremacy in the U.S., Zero Dark Thirty covered practices of torture used by the C.I.A. in the hunt for Bin Laden, and Trainspotting was a heartbreaking but fun exploration of crippling drug addiction. But few films have taken on what is arguably the most controversial subject of all: Adolf Hitler. The Nazis themselves have featured in plenty of the great war and action films, from Raiders of the Lost Arkto Saving Private Ryan.

George Lucas’ Confidence Boosting Move for a Young Ewan McGregor After He Got Overshadowed in a $924 Million Star Wars Epic

The only agreeable response to “Hello there,” is “General Kenobi” in that menacing voice, thanks to the iconic dialogue delivery of Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor, who joined Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, he was just 28 years old. He was stepping into one of the most iconic franchises in cinematic history.

As the young Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor had big shoes to fill, not only as a Jedi but also as a successor to the legendary Sir Alec Guinness, who portrayed the character in the original trilogy. He wasn’t the confident, amazing actor we know and love right from the start.

‘Mr Pikes’: Life Of Tony Pike, The “Hugh Hefner Of Ibiza”, Set For Feature Adaption From ‘Trainspotting’ Scribe Irvine Welsh
Image
Exclusive: Scottish author Irvine Welsh, best known for writing the original 1993 Trainspotting novel, has teamed with screenwriter Dean Cavanagh to write a biopic based on the life of notorious Ibiza hotelier Tony Pike.

Pike, who died of Cancer in 2019, earned notoriety in the early 1980s after establishing the Pikes Hotel in Ibiza. The hotel, which occupied a former rural farmhouse, quickly became a hedonistic haven for celebrities and musicians. Frequent visitors included Freddie Mercury, Princess Margaret, and George Michael, who shot the music video for Wham!’s “Club Tropicana” at the hotel. Pike also has a cameo in the video. Pike’s appetite for the party life once famously led Boy George to dub him the “Hugh Hefner of Ibiza”, which the hotelier often tried to play down.

“There’s a big difference between Hugh Hefner and me in that he has used women to make money,” Pike told local...

Boybands Forever Review: Manufacturing Pop Stars and Breaking Lives
Image
As a film critic who’s spent countless hours analyzing how cultural movements shape our media landscape, I find the emergence of British boybands in the early ’90s particularly interesting. The British boyband trend started as a direct response to America’s New Kids on the Block, but with a unique British twist that would change pop music worldwide, much like the French New Wave’s reaction to Hollywood norms.

The British culture in the early ’90s was ready for change. As poll tax riots rocked the streets and Thatcherism waned, savvy music producers noticed a gap in the market. American groups like NKotB seemed distant and untouchable, while British managers wanted to create something more relatable and local. It was similar to how Ken Loach made realistic movies about everyday life in Britain. These producers wanted to make pop music feel true to working-class experiences.

The formation process itself...

2 Months Before Revenge of the Sith, a Star Wars Legend Starred in a Forgotten Animated Movie
Image
Quick Links Ewan McGregor Is Best Known as Obi-Wan Kenobi McGregor Also Starred In an Underrated Disney Movie Robots Has Been Overlooked For Years Robots Was Not McGregor's Only Major Non-Star Wars Movie

After the controversial releases of the first two Star Wars prequel movies, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was meant to usher in a fitting conclusion for the franchise. Where Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) left Anakin as a lustful Jedi, Sith would bridge the gap between Anakin's story and the rise of Darth Vader. It was highly anticipated, eventually going on to earn $868 million at the box office, which would be around $1.436 billion in today's money. Without adjusting for inflation, it would defeat Clones' $654 million total with ease, though it would fall short of The Phantom Menace (1999)'s $1 billion take.

While critical responses were mixed, it is hard...

The production team behind Netflix’s Black Mirror has a new series, Toxic Town, set to arrive on the streaming platform sometime this year. Netflix has released the first image (above) for the four-part limited series starring Jodie Whittaker and Robert Carlyle, which traces the true story of the Corby toxic waste case from the UK.

A town in Northamptonshire, Corby was once home to steel works which were shuttered in 1981. However, the toxic waste left behind contaminated the area, leading to health issues for those who lived there. An investigation and subsequent case found that the Corby Borough Council’s actions in moving the waste led to birth defects, namely, an above-average number of Corby residents born with upper-limb defects. Netflix's series will center primarily on the mothers whose children were affected. Per the official synopsis for Toxic Town:

Based on one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals,...

28 Years Later Trailer Reveals A Terrifying Vision Of Post-Apocalyptic Humanity
Image
22 years ago, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland helped to kickstart a zombie movie renaissance with "28 Days Later," a movie that isn't technically a zombie film but, rather, a pandemic film. And sadly, 22 years later, that subgenre is bloodily ripe for the exploitin'.

On June 20, 2025, "28 Years Later" will pick up 18 years (in our own timeline) after the rage virus bedlam of Juan Carlos Fresndillo's 2007 sequel "28 Weeks Later." Lest you think this is some small affair, know that 2024 Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy is reprising his role as the once comatose Jim for the film. He'll be joined by the immensely talented likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Jack O'Connell, and Ralph Fiennes in the cast. As for the state of the world in "28 Years Later," per the premise the rage virus is once again spreading and, presumably, the aforementioned actors will be scrambling to keep from joining the ranks of the infected.

Upcoming Sequel To Danny Boyle's 91% Rt Oscar-Winner Continues A Surprising 7-Year Streak
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

The news that Danny Boyle’s 2008 hit Slumdog Millionaire could receive a sequel keeps a bizarre streak alive for the legendary director. A look back on Danny Boyle’s career proves that the British filmmaker is nothing if not versatile. One of Danny Boyle’s best movies is a brutal, intense zombie horror, another is an inspiring coming-of-age epic, and another is a heroin-fueled crime dramedy. However, thanks to the upcoming 28 Years Later, these three movies now have more in common than their critical success and their director. 28 Days Later is set to receive a second sequel soon.

'Slumdog Millionaire' Sequel & TV Series in the Works
Image
It has been sixteen years since the release of Slumdog Millionaire, and after all this time the story will continue with a sequel and a television series. Directed by Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire follows 18-year-old Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) as he is about to win the Hindi Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? He is questioned for cheating and recounts his life story to the police, showing how key moments in his life tie into each answer. The film was a sleeper hit, grossing $378 million worldwide and winning Best Picture at the 81st Academy Awards.

Deadline reports that Bridge7, a production company founded by Swati Shetty, a former Netflix executive, and former CAA agent Grant Kessman, has acquired the film sequel and TV rights to Slumdog Millionaire from the UK company Celador Films, which produced the original 2008 film. Shetty and Kessman launched Bridge7 in June 2023, and the...

‘Awards Chatter’ Live Pod: Ewan McGregor on ‘A Gentleman in Moscow,’ Re-Evaluation of His ‘Star Wars’ Movies and ‘Trainspotting’ Turning 30
Image
Ewan McGregor, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience at the Newport Beach Film Festival, has been one of the world’s most admired screen actors for some 30 years.

The Scotsman, 53, shot to stardom in 1995’s Trainspotting, and has since done standout work in films such as 1998’s Velvet Goldmine, George Lucas’ second Star Wars trilogy (1999-2005), 2001’s Moulin Rouge!, 2003’s Big Fish, 2010’s The Ghost Writer, 2011’s Beginners and 2012’s The Impossible, and on TV limited series including Fargo (2017), Halston (2021) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022).

But rarely, if ever, has McGregor’s work generated the degree of enthusiasm — from critics and the general public alike — that he has garnered for his performance in the 2024 Paramount+ limited series A Gentleman in Moscow, a dramedy in which he plays Count Alexander “Sasha” Rostov, an aristocrat whose life is upended by the Russian Revolution,...

“I believe in being an equal citizen”: 28 Days Later Director Danny Boyle’s Open Declaration of War Against the Royal Family
Image
The Royal family is as respected and powerful as a family can get. With their influence on the world, they have been immortalized in every way possible due to the impact they have had over the centuries. Considering this, one would assume that figures, regardless of how successful they are, would watch their tongues when talking about them.

However, some celebrities tend to get quite candid when talking about the family. Danny Boyle, best known for films like 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and Trainspotting, is an excellent example of the same.

During an interview, the director spoke a little too truthfully about his thoughts on the monarchy, and his words could easily be labeled as controversial.

Danny Boyle Declined Knighthood and Dislikes the Royal Family

Neil Marshall Gives Disappointing Update on ‘Dog Soldiers’ Sequel
Neil Marshall in Paris promoting The Lair
We recently celebrated the 22-year anniversary of Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers here on Bloody Disgusting, a fan-favorite werewolf movie that’s still without a sequel. While a promising update on the anticipated sequel would soon follow, the filmmaker took to Instagram this afternoon with disappointing news.

Dog Soldiers pit soldiers up against werewolves in the Scotland wilderness, and a trilogy of films was the original plan. In fact, it had been announced back in 2004 that Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat was in the works. Of course, that never ended up coming to fruition.

While Marshall was hard at work trying to get the sequel greenlit, it seems as though all plans have fallen through. The director shared a fan-made poster for the sequel on social media and detailed that, despite valiant efforts, Dog Soldiers 2 is no longer in the works.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce...

10 Best Feel-Good Movies From The Past Decade
Image
Feel-good movies have always been an intrinsic part of wider cinema. The Best Episodes of Greys Anatomy Directed by Kevin McKidd
Image
Grey's Anatomy boasts a handful of long-running cast members, all of whom praise the show's legacy as well as its creator, Shonda Rhimes. Actors like Chandra Wilson and Ellen Pompeo have immersed themselves in Executive Producer roles, ensuring that the hit medical drama feels consistent and aligned with the characters' stories. As such, it seems that a lot of the show's team are willing to step up to the plate when it comes to extending the drama even further.

Kevin McKidd, best known for playing Dr. Owen Hunt, also works behind the scenes as a director on some of the show's most prominent episodes. Although a lot of fans will recognize him from his breakout role in Trainspotting, the actor seems to have found his new stomping ground in Grey Sloan. As such, it could be argued that McKidd is responsible for bringing some of Grey's Anatomy's most successful storylines to life.

Lanterns Casts Deadwood And Looper Actor Garret Dillahunt In Villainous Role
Image
As HBO's Lanterns series continues to round out its supporting cast, the latest addition is an actor who has played numerous memorable roles over the years, Garret Dillahunt.

According to Deadline, Dillahunt will play a villain, but his character doesn't appear to be anyone we might know from the comics.

Described as a "modern cowboy," William Macon is a "a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade."

Dillahunt has a lot of experience playing villains, with appearances in the likes of The Last House on the Left, Looper, and HBO's Deadwood, in which he played two completely different characters (really three if you count his cameo in the movie).

Dillahunt joins the recently cast Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan.

Nexus Point News first reported that Dillahunt was in talks,...

Lanterns: Kelly Macdonald Officially Joins Cast - Find Out Who She's Playing
Image
Confirming a recent casting rumor, the trades are reporting that Kelly Macdonald has now officially signed on for a supporting role in HBO's Lanterns series.

We had heard that the Scottish actress - who has appeared in the likes of Trainspotting, No Country for Old Men and Boardwalk Empire - was up for the role of Hal Jordan's love-interest, which led to speculation that she might be playing Star Sapphire.

While her character is expected to become romantically involved with Jordan, she doesn't appear to be playing an established DC Comics hero or villain.

According to THR, Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, "a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface."

Macdonald joins Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan.
