Basic short film that does nothing with the curious concept

After too long in unemployment while he waits for auditions to come through, Charlie is dumped by Stephanie. Struggling to move on, Charlie comes up with an idea to turn his house into a living museum of their relationship. With the rather unhinged curator Kitty (who also happens to have connections that can help get funding), Charlie opens up his house and concerns his friends by seemingly refusing to move past the relationship.

I was attracted to this by the young stars in cast and crew – specially Christian Slater as director. The title tells you all you need to know as a museum of love is opened up and simple melodrama ensues. It was feasible that the concept be used in a way that was clever or insightful but it really doesn't do anything of interest and even sinks to a stupid and unconvincing ending that p1sses away anything that had gone before. I'm not sure what the short story was like but I hope it had more going on than just a gimmick value – which I must say I think is the main thing this short has in its favour.

The material gives the cast nothing to work with and most of them were pretty average apart from Bernhard, who does her usual stuff to good effect if you like that sort of thing (and I personally don't). As director Slater has little to offer and the film feels the same as many of the Chanticleer short films from the period that I have seen. A basic short film then that has some famous names, an curious concept but nothing else.
