Genndy Tartakovsky’s Original Idea for Dexter’s Laboratory Was a Ballerina Dancer: “I was just doodling this girl”
Image
In the ‘90s golden era of animation, Dexter’s Laboratory surfaced as a far-reaching force: quirky, smart, and different from anything viewers had seen before. But behind the cartoon’ futuristic setting and sibling anarchy lies a much daintier, almost poetic origin story. Genndy Tartakovsky, the maker of the show, did not begin this journey with a boy genius and secrets devices.

In fact, the first spark for the show came from a completely different muse: a ballerina. Brainstorming ideas as a film student, Tartakovsky casually sketched up a lanky girl mid-dance. Little did he know that an unplanned doodle would one day evolve into Dee Dee, and eventually, one of Cartoon Network’s most legendary duos. What started as a mindless doodle of a whimsical ballerina ultimately redefined the direction of modern animation in the cartoon industry.

Ironically, Dee Dee paved the way for Dexter’s Laboratory

Creator Genndy Tartakovsky on Why ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’ Is a Hit: “None of us were married and we didn’t have kids”
Image
Dexter’s Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky says his singlehood while working on the animated series was partly responsible for its success. Speaking in an interview, the ace animator shared his unorthodox point of view regarding relationships, as he implied that the show was successful because they were all single.

Almost three decades after the first episode of Dexter’s Laboratory aired on Cartoon Network, Tartakovsky shared the reason for the show’s success. The animated series narrated the story of a young science prodigy, Dexter, who did several science experiments in his laboratory. However, his experiments received challenges equally from his sister, Dee Dee, and his rival, Mandark.

While the storyline was intriguing enough to ensure Dexter’s Laboratory’s success, the 55-year-old Russian origin creator hints at something else. According to Tartakovsky, it was his and his team members’ marital status that played an important role.

Netflix releases new images of Genndy Tartakovsky’s adult animation film Fixed along with a release date
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is one of Cartoon Network’s premiere contributors, with hits like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, and Primal to his name. Tartakovsky is also one of the driving forces behind the Hotel Transylvania film series, which has done well for Sony with four films of varying success in the franchise. It was reported months ago that Tartakovsky’s newest mature audience fare, Fixed, fell victim to David Zaslav’s project jettison practice at Warner Bros. in order to save money at the studio. Sony regained the rights and Netflix has now picked it up to stream on August 13.

The official synopsis reads,

“From visionary director Genndy Tartakovsky comes Fixed, an adult animated comedy about Bull, an average, all-around good dog who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning! As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one...

Metacritic's Highest-Rated Adventure-Horror Series Is An Animated Gem Streaming On Max
Image
"Primal" is many things. For starters, it's a thoughtful look at the unifying experiences of loss and grief, as well as one of the most accurate (and sensitive) depictions of what it's like to live with an animal companion put to screen. It's also the gnarliest animated "Conan the Barbarian" adaptation that's never been made and often plays like a Robert E. Howard fever dream.

Case in point: Over the course of Genndy Tartakovsky's rip-roaring blend of prehistoric fantasy, action-adventure, and horror, the show's heroes are forced to survive scraps with flash floods of blood-thirsty snakes, colossal bats, and even a dinosaur infected with what seems to be a nastier strain of the Rage virus from "28 Days Later." And that's before they cross paths with the human tribes residing in this extremely anachronistic (not to mention gleefully pulpy) vision of Earth's very distant past.

To put it another way,...

Metacritic's Highest-Rated Animated TV Show Is A Cartoon Network Classic
Image
Only one cartoon is on the list of the five best TV shows of all time, according to IMDb. On Metacritic, however, things are different. Rather than being based on user scores (which are notoriously vulnerable and prone to review bombing and other forms of bias), Metacritic bases its ratings mostly on review scores — but not just an arbitrary fresh/rotten, an actual score. This means these are actually the cartoons that have the highest review scores, the ones considered close to perfect.

Granted, there are still many problems with any sort of list coming from a review aggregator, starting with the limited number of reviews for older titles from before the era of movie and TV blogs. If there are only a handful of reviews, but they are all rated highly, does that weigh more than a modern show with a slightly lower score but exponentially more reviews?

In any case,...

Fearless, blunt, unapologetic, and absolutely hilarious, he’s amassed over 100K followers on TikTok and nearly 90K followers on Instagram. He talks about any and everything: pop culture mess, birthday cake etiquette, the weather, a chicken sandwich. If Tyreak is telling you about it, you’re going to listen. And now, he’s taking his raw insight to the anime community. I caught up with him for an interview and talked about anime, viral fame, villainy, audacity, and confidence — him dropping gems along the way that'll leave you sipping tea and reflecting. Netflix’s Narnia Reboot: Meryl Streep as Aslan? The Controversy of Gender and Race Swaps
Meryl Streep
Netflix’s Narnia Reboot: Meryl Streep in Talks to Play Aslan? When news broke that Meryl Streep is in talks to join Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia reboot for Netflix, fans immediately assumed she would play the White Witch. Streep’s commanding presence and elegance seemed a perfect fit, much like Tilda Swinton’s portrayal in the 2005 film adaptation. However, reports now suggest that Streep may actually voice Aslan. Female voice actors have portrayed many iconic male characters in animation, such as: Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson (The Simpsons) Christine Cavanaugh as Dexter (Dexter’s Laboratory) June Foray as Rocky (Rocky and Bullwinkle) Kath Soucie as Phil and Lil (Rugrats) The Cautionary Tale of Controversial Character Changes This situation brings to mind other controversies surrounding character changes that led to significant backlash. Warner Bros. Once Rejected A Battle Between The Powerpuff Girls And Batman's Arch-Nemesis
Image
Early Cartoon Network was a wild time for imagination in animation. After being created mostly to just air classic Warner Bros., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, the mid-'90s saw Cartoon Network get into original programming with the introduction of Cartoon Cartoons. These were animated shorts that later got turned into full animated series like "Dexter's Laboratory," "Johnny Bravo," "Cow and Chicken," "Courage the Cowardly Dog," and "The Powerpuff Girls" -- shows that remain some of the best of the past 30 years. It was a time of great experimentation without a house style or a formula that allows for a series of cartoons that pushed the medium forward in visual style, tone, kineticism, and characters.

Many of these shows shared a lot of the same crew, with the very first Cartoon Cartoon, "Dexter's Laboratory," staffing future legends of the medium like Rob Renzetti, Seth MacFarlane, Butch Hartman, and "The Powerpuff Girls...

Before Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane Wrote For One Of Cartoon Network's Best Shows
Image
"Family Guy" is one of the most successful adult animated comedies of all time, following the suburban Griffin family through all kinds of wacky misadventures, and its creator Seth MacFarlane has ended up with an extensive career in comedy as a result. Once upon a time, however, he was just a writer working his way up through the ranks, learning how to put together a good cartoon comedy script. While on his way up, he worked on a beloved Cartoon Network series that would have an impact on not only MacFarlane's career but also affect how he made "Family Guy," and it was all about a lady-crazed himbo with a penchant for talking like an Elvis impersonator. That's right, before MacFarlane created hits like "Family Guy" and "American Dad!," he was a writer on the Cartoon Network classic "Johnny Bravo."

"Johnny Bravo" was just one of the best shows during...

Cartoon Network, in its prime, was the king of animated programming. Whether it be Dexter's Lab, Teen Titans, Courage the Cowardly Dog, or Johnny Bravo, everyone had their favorite Cn show growing up. However, one of the riskier shows the network ever made was Ed, Edd n’ Eddy. The series lasted for almost a decade, from 1999 to 2008. Since then, the complete series has been immortalized on DVD. Why A Dexter's Laboratory Segment Was Banned For Nearly Two Decades
Image
The 1990s was a golden age for cartoons. Following the creatively bankrupt string of toy commercials disguised as TV shows of the '80s, we got one phenomenally written, visually inventive, boundary-pushing cartoon after the other in the 1990s. One of the best shows of that decade was "Dexter's Laboratory." Created by maestro Genndy Tartakovsky, the show was the very first Cartoon Cartoons show to be made into a series. It follows the titular Dexter, a boy genius with a skill for engineering who is at constant odds with his older sister Dee Dee, who keeps entering Dexter's secret lab without his permission and interfering with his experiments.

The show was a huge hit, responsible for starting the careers of plenty of veteran animators like Craig McCracken, Rob Renzetti, Seth MacFarlane, and Butch Hartman, who each went on to create successful animated shows of their own. You can see the...

SNL: Timothée Chalamet reprised his rap character (you just didn't see it)

Timothée Chalamet returned to host Saturday Night Live for the third time this weekend, delivering his most impressive performance to date. The show was so jam-packed, his recurring character ended up on the cutting room floor.

Chalamet is in the rare group of SNL hosts that has their own recurring character. In fact, there were two different charactersfChalamet could have revived during his episode. It ended up not being the case as the Oscar-nominated actor had completely new sketches throughout the night.

However, insider info indicates that Chalamet's rap character, SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta, appeared in a dress rehearsal sketch. SNL Fanatic reports a third sketch featuring the SoundCloud rapper was cut for time.

According to the source, "Grammys Roundtable" featured "[Ego] Nwodim as moderator, [Kenan] Thompson as Lionel Richie, [James Austin] Johnson as Bob Dylan, Chalamet as Smokecheda the Assgetta, and [Marcello] Hernandez as a 9-year-old rapper who looks up to Chalamet. Why So Many Cartoon Characters Only Have 4 Fingers
Image
What do Mickey Mouse, Homer Simpson, and SpongeBob SquarePants have in common? Not much, apart from the fact that they're all beloved, easily recognizable cartoon characters. But they also share one design aspect: All of these characters sport four fingers instead of five. Once you notice, you'll never be able to un-see it. This four-fingered cartoon design isn't solely limited to the aforementioned examples, as you'll notice this quirk on most of your favorite animated characters, from everyone in "Dexter's Laboratory" to all humans in "Futurama." In most cases, fewer fingers are generally attributed to anthropomorphic creatures or those who are considered alien to a fictional story's setting.

Why has this design choice become a semi-standard animation practice? Is it simply a by-product of the whimsy that these cartoons embrace, where everything is exaggerated to suit its limitless essence? Let's look at Mickey Mouse as an example, who sports a round,...

The Best Cartoon Network Shows of the 2020s, Ranked
Image
During the latter part of the 20th century, Cartoon Network delivered some amazing kids' shows, including Courage the Cowardly Dog and Dexter's Laboratory. Yet, as the next generation showcased different interests, cartoons seemed to fade into the background. Plus, with the advent of sites like YouTube and TikTok, children can gain access to their favorite content whenever they please.

Yet, Cartoon Network has still managed to remain at the forefront of children's entertainment. While the broadcaster now has a lot more to compete with, it's still able to impress audiences with its assorted collection of animated shows. Thus, it could be argued that Cartoon Network is still as popular in the 2020s as it was in the 1990s.

It's Official: Toonami Really Is Axing One of Its Best Anime Blocks
Image
One of Cartoon Network’s nostalgic programming blocks, Toonami Rewind has been officially canceled, marking the end of its Friday evening showcase of classic Toonami hits Sailor Moon, Naruto, and Dragon Ball Z. Running from 5 to 7 p.m. Et/Pt, Toonami Rewind was beloved for reintroducing viewers to iconic anime series that helped define the original Toonami era. However, the Friday block will now be replaced by Checkered Past, a new lineup focusing on vintage Cartoon Network originals that will run during the same time slot Monday through Thursday, with an additional segment taking over Friday evenings.

Toonami Rewind gave fans of the late 90s and early 2000s anime a rare opportunity to revisit formative series that brought Japanese animation into mainstream Western pop culture. Its cancelation leaves a void for those who cherished reliving the golden age of Toonami, and newcomers experiencing the classics for the first time. Still,...

The 15 Best '90s Cartoons Everyone Forgot About
Image
The 1990s were an important time in the history of animation. The decade was marked by a lot of innovation and diversification in storytelling, art style and sound design. It was a peak moment thus far for children's television networks like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. And many now-obscure gems from that period stood the test of time.

The nostalgia of '90s cartoons is naturally more often linked to the most popular TV shows. From American classics like Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, The Wild Thornberrys and Animaniacs to anime like Sailor Moon, the hits overshadow the shows that were less popular in this crowded period. However, that doesn't mean the forgotten cartoons of the decade weren't as good as the ones that are easily remembered. The best 90s' cartoons everyone forgot about include Gargoyles, Magic Knight Rayearth and Doug, among other examples that go head-to-head with the greatest.

Marvel Turned Down A Series Inspired By One Of The Best Star Wars Projects Ever
Image
The best way to adapt comic books to cinema is through animation. At least that's my personal opinion. It's much smoother to put characters from one hand-drawn medium to another than it is trying to weld reality into a setting that was never meant to resemble it. Japanese cartoonists understand this, hence the overflowing manga to anime adaptation pipeline.

But here in America, the biggest superhero movies are the live-action ones that rarely reach the style of the comics they pull from. The Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't had the greatest success at becoming a multimedia project (their Disney+ shows look ever more like a failed experiment), and a story from the studio's early days shows they missed an early shot.

Genndy Tartakovsky, the acclaimed creator of "Dexter's Laboratory" and "Samurai Jack," did storyboarding work on "Iron Man 2." But he didn't get the job by applying directly for it. No,...

J.J. Abrams’ Live Action Samurai Jack Movie Needs Hiroyuki Sanada
Image
Movies based on animated series have a 50-50 chance of succeeding. The added pressure of a pre-established fanbase can either make or break the project. Genndy Tartakovsky is a legend in the animated world, with gems like Hotel Transylvania, Primal, Dexter’s Laboratory, and many more.

The Samurai Jack animated series which was released in 2001 became exponentially famous. However, most fans aren’t aware that there was once a live-action movie planned for the beloved series. One of the most famous faces in Hollywood, J.J. Abrams was approached to take on the task, but it unfortunately didn’t work out. Given the chance of the movie being planned again, action star Hiroyuki Sanada would be the best choice for the role.

Solar Opposites Keeps A Long-Standing Tradition Of Classic Cartoons Alive And Well
Image
"Solar Opposites" is back for season 5, and the show is as funny as ever. The adult animated sitcom created by Mike McMahan and disgraced animator Justin Roiland continues to blend the sci-fi lunacy of "Rick and Morty" with classic family sitcom tropes without veering too much into a single territory, keeping audiences on their toes as they watch. The stories about this alien family reluctantly coming to love planet Earth despite how much they complain about it, choosing time and time again to stay here when it's a detriment to their mission, are funny. Still, it's in the B-plots where the show truly shines.

The first of these B-plots is The Wall, a recurring segment taking place in a terrarium of one of the alien kids, who continuously shrinks random people against their will when he feels they wrong him, and puts them in the terrarium. After a while, The Wall became a full society,...

Warner Bros. Scraps Release of Animation Legend's New Film
Image
Warner Bros. pulls plug on releasing adult animated film "Fixed" by Genndy Tartakovsky, opts to sell to Sony Pictures for distribution. Despite Tartakovsky's impressive resume, new Warner Bros. leadership seems to be abandoning the studio's Cartoon Network legacy. Sony Pictures Animation now has the option to sell "Fixed" to other distributors or pursue a streaming release.

Warner Bros. has scrapped plans to distribute Fixed, an adult animated film from the mind of Hotel Transylvania director and Samurai Jack creator Genndy Tartakovsky. Warner Bros. neuters Genndy Tartakovsky’s animated film Fixed to save cash while Sony retains the rights
Image
Warner Bros. is snipping Genndy Tartakovsky‘s animated feature, Fixed, as part of a cost-cutting measure, as the studio has been doing recently. While WB is known for shelving projects fans want to see, the decision to scrap Tartakovsky’s Fixed is baffling. Tartakovsky is by many measures one of Cartoon Network’s premiere contributors, with hits like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, and Primal to his name. Tartakovsky is also one of the driving forces behind the Hotel Transylvania film series, which has done well for Sony with four films of varying success in the franchise.

Fixed‘s distribution rights will revert to Sony Pictures Animation, with the studio looking for new distribution. Fixed follows Bull, a bloodhound who embarks on a bucket list-type adventure after discovering he will be neutered. Adam Devine voices Bull, with Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Bobby Moynihan, Fred Armisen, Beck Bennett,...

Genndy Tartakovsky’s Adult Animated Movie ‘Fixed’ Won’t Be Released By Warners; Sony Looking For New Buyer
Image
Deadline has confirmed that Warner Bros won’t be releasing Genndy Tartakovsky’s adult animated title Fixed. This the second animated movie after Coyote Vs. Acme that the David Zaslav-led administration at the studio has casted aside.

The movie reportedly centers around a canine’s ballsack bucket list.

Sony Pictures Animation made the movie, and they’re taking back distribution rights in hopes of the pic finding a new home. Netflix, a buyer of Sony Pictures Animation fare Vivo and The Mitchells vs. The Machines is one possible contender.

Tartakovsky has had a long run at Warner Bros, specifically Cartoon Network with hits such as Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars. He has a multi-year exclusive deal with Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. The filmmaker has also been big for Sony having delivered three of their Hotel Transylvania pics which minted close to $1.4 billion at the global box office.

Genndy Tartakovsky’s Animated Movie ‘Fixed’ Dropped by Warner Bros. In Cost-Saving Move, Returned to Sony
Image
Warner Bros./New Line is no longer releasing Sony Pictures Animation’s “Fixed,” an adult animated comedy from writer/director Genndy Tartakovsky, Variety has learned. The distribution rights are back with Sony Pictures Animation, which is looking at a new distribution plan for the film.

Warner Bros. Discovery dropping a Tartakovsky animated title is shocking, as he is probably the biggest star to come from the company’s Cartoon Network system and was integral in its early and long-term success, having created “Dexter’s Laboratory,” “Samurai Jack,” “Star Wars: Clone Wars,” and “Primal.” He also produced “The Powerpuff Girls.” In 2022, Tartakovsky signed an exclusive, multi-year, cross-studio overall deal with Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.

He has also been a significant figure for Sony. The first three “Hotel Transylvania” films, all directed by Tartakovsky and produced by the company, have grossed $1.38 billion globally.

Rip Cartoon Network Website: Warner Bros. Discovery Redirects Users To Max & The Internet Is Furious
Image
Another day, another beloved piece of Warner Bros.' own IP has been unceremoniously dumped -- and all in a blatant attempt to pinch pennies. For those keeping track of CEO David Zaslav's ongoing mismanagement of one of the longest-lasting bastions of the industry, here's yet another flaming log to add to the tire fire. As if it weren't already bad enough that the billionaire made himself public enemy #1 during the writer's strike, pioneered the trend of studios erasing entire movies for tax write-offs, and most recently incurred billions of dollars of debt in a single quarter alone, the most unpopular Hollywood executive around has now given yet another reason to make every animation-loving Millennial on the planet shoot steam right out of their ears.

For over 25 years, one tiny sliver of joy for animation fans in this hellscape we call "life" has been the official Cartoon Network website.

The Correct Order To Watch The Hotel Transylvania Movies
Image
Even if you don't know the name Genndy Tartakovsky, chances are high that if you watched cartoons in the '90s or '00s, you've seen his work. "Dexter's Laboratory" kickstarted the reign of Cartoon Network by becoming the first so-called "Cartoon Cartoon," while "Samurai Jack" is one of the most influential cartoons from the '00s thanks to Tartakovsky's eye for dynamic action and understanding of the importance of silence in storytelling. Even his "Star Wars: Clone Wars" micro-series continues to influence "Star Wars" to this day. And outside of animation, Tartakovsky helped save the action scenes in "Iron Man 2."

In 2012, Tartakovsky made his feature film debut with "Hotel Transylvania," a movie that brought together classic Universal Monsters and reimagined them into a fun animated movie for all ages seen from the eyes of a human who falls in love with Dracula's daughter. It was a monster movie...

“I wouldn’t go back”: It’s Not George Lucas We Should be Mourning, The Greatest Star Wars Director Whose Work Disney Decanonized Won’t Ever Return
Image
There is little doubt about the fact that Genndy Tartakovsky is an animation genius. From the greatest hits of most millennial childhoods to critically acclaimed adult animated shows like Primal, Tartakovsky’s footprint on the industry and popular culture is undeniable as it is evergreen.

Gendy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars || Lucasfilm

Tartakovsky’s 2003 offering that depicted the Clone Wars preceded the CGI show by about five years and covered some of the greatest hits of Anakin’s time as a Padawan, and his ascension to Jedi knighthood. However, despite how brilliant the series was, its removal from the Star Wars canon probably caused Tartakovsky to declare that he would never be returning to the IP.

10 Best Primal Episodes, Ranked
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is famous for creating kids' cartoons such as Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack, but Primal was his first chance at telling a fully uncensored story as he envisioned it. Fans of Primal were treated to an incredible ride as they followed the adventures of a caveman and a dinosaur traversing prehistoric lands.

Primal grew to be even more fantastical and unpredictable than its premise implied, mixing and matching tropes and mythologies from different civilizations and eras. It was unique in its ability to handle both episodic storytelling and overarching narratives competently. The standout episodes of Primal rank among the best-animated episodes in American animation.

However, Genndy Tartakovsky is one of only two creators from this run of shows who is still making groundbreaking animation today. The other is "The Powerpuff Girls" creator Craig McCracken, who just so happened to cut his teeth working alongside Tartakovsky through much of the first couple seasons of "Dexter's Laboratory." Perhaps that's why it's so wonderful to this day.

Bruce Campbell Remembers Spider-Man Co-Star Randy Savage
Image
Late pro wrestling legend Randy Savage had kind things to say about Bruce Campbell after working with the actor in Spider-Man. With the clip resurfacing on social media, Campbell paid back the kindness.

In Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie, which introduced Tobey Maguire in the titular role, Campbell appeared as a pro wrestling organization's ring announcer. Savage also had a guest role as Bonesaw McGraw, a pro wrestler who Maguire's Peter Parker must fight in the ring. A resurfaced clip on X saw Savage praising Campbell before bestowing him the pro-wrestling-like nickname of "Beautiful" Bruce Campbell. After watching the clip on X, Campbell said he felt the same way about the one they call the "Macho Man."

Cartoon Network's Steven Universe Made History Behind The Scenes
Image
Cartoon Network has always been a place of experimentation. In the early years, shows like "Dexter's Laboratory" brought Sam Raimi references to animation. In the early '00s, shows like "Samurai Jack," "Ben 10," and "Codename: Kids Next Door," added deep mythologies and more serialized storytelling. And in the 2010s, the network experimented with visuals in shows like "Flapjack" and "Adventure Time," which brought weirdness back into Cartoon Network.

This experimentation continued, with animators who got their start on the likes of "Flapjack" going on to develop influential and fantastic shows on their own. Still, as bold and imaginative as all these shows were, they were still mostly white men in charge of creating those cartoons. That all changed in 2013 with the release of "Steven Universe" -- one of the best cartoons of the century and a deeply emotional and inventive show inspired by superheroes and magical-girl anime. The show follows Steven,...

Cartoon Network's Dexter's Laboratory Is Riddled With Sam Raimi References
Image
"Dexter's Laboratory" changed the course of American TV animation. Like "Flapjack" after it, the cartoon gave many future legendary animators their start in the industry, from Craig McCracken and Butch Hartman to Rob Renzetti and one Seth MacFarlane. It also helped transform "The Powerpuff Girls" into a timeless hit.

The show started as a short in "What a Cartoon!" before becoming the very first Cartoon Cartoon. The man behind the show, Genndy Tartakovsky, has made hit after hit in a variety of genres and tones, from his influential "Star Wars: Clone Wars," to the devastatingly gory R-rated animated carnage of "Primal" or complex genre-bending tales of steampunk goodness like the criminally underseen "Unicorn: Warriors Eternal."

Much of Tartakovsky's style can be traced back to his work in "Dexter's Laboratory," from his use of silence to tell stories to his eye for iconography and imagery, along with his knack for pop culture references.

You Can Thank Flapjack For Cartoons Like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls & More
Image
The history of television is fascinating because you can trace lines between almost any modern show and one of the classics, as crews move from one show to another, bringing their past work and their influences with them. This applies to both live-action and animation. In the latter, many animators who start as writers or storyboard artists in one show end up creating their own series years later, bringing colleagues along with them, who then go on to create their own shows in return. Take "Dexter's Laboratory" launching the career of not just Genndy Tartakovsky, but also Craig McCracken, Rob Renzetti, Butch Hartman, and Seth MacFarlane, each going on to make a popular show.

What "Dexter's Laboratory" did in the '90s, "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" did in the late 2000s. This is a show that helped launch several animation careers, with plenty of writers and storyboard artists...
