Sean Bean and Emily Lloyd in When Saturday Comes (1996)

Goofs

When Saturday Comes

Edit

Continuity

At the movie's end, during the toast it is raining behind Kat, not raining behind Amy and Ed , and then raining and not raining.

Factual errors

As already explained, the FA Cup Semi-Final should be played at a neutral venue and not at the home ground of Sheffield United - as in the film. However, there is also the alarming fact that the April Semi-Final takes place in mid-winter. This is due to the footage from the 'real game' actually being an FA Cup 3rd tie in Janurary, 1995.
Jimmy's dad, brother Russ and best friend Mac all work in a Sheffield Coal Mine, despite the fact that all the pits in South Yorkshire were closed by 1993 - 3 years before the film is set.
During the football season in question, 1995/1996, Sheffield United were in the first division. This is confirmed by a scene in the betting shop where Sheffield United appears on a betting board for Division 1 sides. However, regularly during the film, Sheffield United play Premiership teams Arsenal and Leeds United in December, an impossibility given Sheffield United's division unless these are League Cup matches. The FA Cup semi-final, played at Bramall Lane in the film, would not be held there; all FA-Cup semi-finals are played at a neutral ground.
All premiership footballers have their surnames listed on the backs of their shirts. This was not evident when Sheffield Utd played Manchester Utd, even if it was a cup game.

Miscellaneous

After seeing the image of his dead brother in the crowd, Jimmy heads on a Mel Sterland long ball, which appears to be crossed from the half-way line or even further into Sheffield United's half. Mel Sterland somehow travels the distance of the pitch to score an almost implausible one-two.

Errors in geography

The young Jimmy appears to have a broad Lancashire accent (notice the 'rhotic 'r' when he tells the careers officer that he wants to be a 'footballer')- not consistent with the broad Sheffield accent of Jimmy Muir and the location where the film is set. Despite Emily Lloyd's shaky attempt at an Irish accent, Jimmy's dad also appears to have a mixed accent that is hard to place. The original actor is from Birmingham, but in some scenes he almost sounds 'Geordie'.
