Since her popular part as the surgical oncologist Izzy in Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl emerged in several roles in television series and movies. Her Grey's Anatomy era is considered the height of her career, although her professional history is filled with notable acting roles and other worthy entertainment features. Heigl began in entertainment fairly early, starting out as a child model in advertisements from Lord & Taylor to Cheerios and venturing into the acting vocation she has become known for today.
Heigl's first big roles before Grey's Anatomy's 2005 debut included parts in the rom-com My Father The Hero and the 1995 film Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Alongside her early movie stints, Heigl secured television roles and maintained a successful modeling career, until finally joining the original cast of Grey's Anatomy. In this season of corona confinement, people will watch whatever plays out on whichever screen that flashes before their eyes. A whole lot of digital stuff will get noticed that way, and if "Girlfriend Chor" happens to belong to that lot it is not necessarily because this is a bad show.
Writer-director Girish Jotwani's rom-com is enjoyable, if only because it doesn't pretend to be anything more than an easy, breezy watch. Put simply, it is about a social oddball whose Daddy Cool takes it on himself to put the son's love life on track.
"Girlfriend Chor" avoids the deeper contexts of generation gap or mindset disparity that such a situation might lead to -- in fact, the show avoids getting into any sort of complications of any kind. The focus remains on hearty humour, Jotwani and team have done adequately to that extent.

It’s been seven years since Maren Ade‘s second feature Everyone Else premiered at the Berlinale, taking home the Jury Prize, and we’ve been waiting for her follow-up since then. Toni Erdmann has now arrived in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, following Winfried (Peter Simonischek), who plays pranks on his bizarre, awkward pranks on his daughter, Ines (Sandra Hüller). We said in our review, ” Now that her new directorial effort is finally here, it validates all the eager anticipation, as Toni Erdmann is one of the most stirring cinematic experiences to come around in a long time.”
We had the chance to speak with the director while at the festival while at a roundtable and we discussed what she’s been up to in the interim, the length of the feature, being inspired by personal experiences, what it was like making a German comedy, and much more.

And we thought Gerard Depardieu had already bared it all in his new autobiography! The famed French actor was snapped shirtless on set of La Vallee de l'Amour on Sept. 24, and looked larger than life. The wine enthusiast has been increasingly in the spotlight recently, thanks to a new movie, Viktor, a new autobiography, and several headline-making interviews. Last month, the My Father the Hero actor admitted in a chat with French magazine So Film that he can drink up to 14 bottles of wine a [...]...

What makes Katherine Heigl feel like a full-fledged adult? Being called "Mommy." The former Grey's Anatomy star, who's heading up her own new show State of Affairs on NBC this fall, talked about motherhood at an afterparty for the Television Critics Association press day at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday. "With two children and a husband of almost seven years," the actress tells People, "I feel like I'm finally a legitimate grown-up." Heigl, 35, who left Grey's amid controversy in 2010, recently denied longstanding rumors that she was difficult to work with. But she admits her family - adopted daughters Naleigh, 5, and Adalaide,...

Contrary to what she may have said about overindulging in her love of making rom-coms, Katherine Heigl has not cut them out of her life. She happily talked up two of her most iconic at the NBC summer TCA press tour party Sunday night. One in a gaggle of reporters surrounding the actress asked if she kept in touch with her My Father the Hero co-star Gérard Depardieu. Heigl squealed. "Depardieu! I just watched that movie two weeks ago with my 13-year-old niece. It was eerie, okay?" she laughed. "It was weird, but it was kind of awesome because she got to see her Auntie Katie at 14. It was kind of a tragedy for me. I, like, peaked when I was 14." A moment later, when another reporter asked about her 27 Dresses co-star James Marsden, she said he was "literally spit-my-food-out kind of funny" and even suggested teaming up...

Remember this guy?
French actor Gérard Depardieu last made headlines just over a year ago for something bad he depar-did: peeing in the aisle of an Air France flight after a stewardess told him to return to his seat.
Now, if you're still like, "Gérard Depar-who?" that's okay too. Although he has nearly 200 credits to his name on IMDb, the actor mostly appears in French films. On these shores, he's best known for his roles in "My Father the Hero," "The Man in the Iron Mask," and "Cyrano de Bergerac."
Now, he can add Ang Lee's "Life of Pi," opening this week, to his list of U.S. screen hits. Depardieu plays a role credited as "the Frenchman," a cook on the ship the main character and his family board — along with a zoo's worth of animals — for a (doomed) trans-Pacific passage.

We all remember Gerard Depardieu from 1994's awkward but classic "My Father The Hero" -- the same father-daughter romance flick that thrust a young Katherine Heigl into the spotlight.
But today's Depardieu is a far cry from the image of the actor we have in our heads.
At Sunday night's "Asterix et Obelix: Au service de Sa Majeste" in Paris, the 63-year-old was barely recognizable. Check out the actor's 35-year transformation.

Judging solely from the people involved, I have a feeling this movie is going to be really fun. After treating your dad to a nice breakfast in bed or a round on the golf course, why not sit back, relax and spend the rest of the day watching some appropriately themed movies? With help from the Tribeca team, we've gathered a nice selection of films that feature the crème de la crème of cinematic Pops. Leading off is our co-founder Jane Rosenthal, who recommends both the 1950 and the 1991 versions of Father of the Bride. Whether you choose Spencer Tracy or Steve Martin, you can't go wrong with these sentimental patriarchs. We dare you to watch without finding a lump in your throat. Now, on to more staff recommendations: Frederic Boyer, Artistic Director, Tribeca Film Festival Father's Little Dividend (1951) Spencer Tracy as Stanley Banks Spencer Tracy comes to grips with the prospect of becoming a grandfather; a very warm comedy. One for the Money, the new Katherine Heigl vehicle based on the popular Janet Evanovich book series, is now playing at a local theater near you. Since One for the Money was not screened early for critics, Alison Willmore (of the A.V. As I read her review at Movieline, it became obvious that an obsessive chat was necessary. (Spoiler alerts, obviously.) Mike: I saw One for the Money at a junket screening, so your memory of this movie is going to be a lot better than mine. Alison: I suppose there are people out there somewhere who might enjoy this film, but I don't want to know them. Mike: Were there any at your midnight screening? Alison: Well, there were probably about 10 people, including a couple who were actively complaining...

Great to see our favorite French actor is back in the ' in club.' You know, since pissing on planes seems to be all the rage these days.
Turns out the My Father the Hero actor found his way into the club last night while on a delayed flight from Paris to Dublin. But his initiation was all thanks to steadfast Air France flight attendant.
According to reports, since the delayed flight was already out of the gate and idling on the tarmac regulations call for all passengers to be seated. So when Depardieu asked to use the restroom, the flight attendant refused to let him use it. To which the 62-year-old actor responded, " Je veux pisser, je veux pisser."

Priest
The Stars: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
The Plot: A priest (Bettany) disobeys church law in order to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
The Buzz: I’ve got to be honest, I think this film looks horrible. It’s ‘Movie of the Week’ strictly as a path of least resistance. If I happen to have any regular readers out there, they’re certain to know that I’m not going anywhere near Bridesmaids, not even with a blindfold, and so Priest suddenly shines with promise — relatively speaking of course.
Priest continues director Scott Charles Stewart’s working affair with Paul Bettany (whom last teamed together on the unimpressive Legion). Bettany bugs me a bunch, anyone else? I’ve just never taken him well,...

Oh, how 1994 seems sooo long ago. Bill Clinton was president, “Internet” was a scary new word, and the lumbering, shaggy-haired Frenchman Gerard Depardieu was a bona fide A-list movie star.
The ’94 family comedy “My Father the Hero” may have the distinction of being the film that put a swift end to Depardieu’s brief stint as a Hollywood leading man (see also “Green Card”), but we’d rather think of it as the film that introduced us to “Life As We Know It” star Katherine Heigl, who played Gerard’s fastidious 14-year-old (sorry, 14-and-a-half-year-old) daughter.
Most consider Heigl a TV star (first on “Roswell,” then in the career-making “Grey’s Anatomy”) who crossed over into movies (“Knocked Up,” “The Ugly Truth”) but the actress got her start on the big screen, debuting in 1992′s “That Night,” a romantic drama co-starring C. Thomas Howell and Juliette Lewis.

Inglourious Basterds burst onto theater screens around the world last year with heaping doses of gunpowder and star power, namely Brad Pitt, to set box offices on fire. But while familiar faces like Pitt, Mike Myers and others lit up the screen, two actors all but unknown to American audiences left an undeniable impression. Christoph Waltz’s Oscar-winning performance as the diabolically delicious Col. Hans Landa has been well documented. However, Mélanie Laurent’s portrayal of the main heroine Shosanna Dreyfus gave the film its conscience and heart.

Classic actors don't always act in classic films. That's a relatively unarguable cinematic truism. We all know that, indeed, they sometimes act, quite frequently, in pretty terrible films. One need not enumerate the various slabs of celluloid tripe that the likes of Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro have elected to contribute their talents to in recent years, although one might feel compelled to note that, You Don't Know Jacknotwithstanding, Pacino in particular has been on such a run of dreck that one may wonder if it's threatening his very status as a classic actor. But we are not here to discuss or debate DeNiro or Pacino per se, so we'll let those fellows drop, except to say that, as they are American actors, the U.S.-residing readers of this site are privy to their every bad career choice or performance in a way that he or she isn't privy...
