Featured review
Pekko (director Koivusalo) is a bachelor still living with his mother (Orvokki Oksanen) in the small village of Tyräaho, but things get shook up when a research team led by Pipsa (Satu Silvo) comes to the village. They say they are there to conduct archaeological excavations, but the real reason is putting the whole village in danger. At the same time a popular singer (Joel Hallikainen as himself) is visiting the village and Pekko and other villagers are looking for a romance.
I feel like quoting Roger Ebert's famous North review here: "hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it". Where to start about this piece of dreck? The poorly written plot is secondary to the dull, unfunny jokes. The acting is crap throughout, and the movie generally revels in plain laziness and proud underachievement. Pekko is nothing but an idiot and has absolutely no "dimwitted charm" that he is apparently supposed to have. The celebration of stupidity becomes little more than a depressing exploitation of ugliness. The movie actually made me angry by being so bad. It is without a doubt the worst Finnish film I have ever seen, and if I gave out 1/10 ratings, this would get one.
