Annabella Sciorra hailed the guilty verdict against ex-mogul Harvey Weinstein, which included a “criminal sexual act” and third-degree rape, on Monday.
Weinstein was also acquitted on two counts of predatory sexual assault that centered on Sciorra’s testimony — indicating that the jurors did not believe, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Weinstein had raped and assaulted Sciorra at her Gramercy Park apartment in the early 1990s.
“My testimony was painful but necessary,” she said in a statement. “I spoke for myself and with the strength of the 80-plus victims of Harvey Weinstein in my heart. While we hope for continued righteous outcomes that bring absolute justice, we can never regret breaking the silence. For in speaking truth to power we pave the way for a more just culture, free of the scourge of violence against women.”

Annabella Sciorra’s Jan. 23 testimony about being raped by Harvey Weinstein and her subsequent acceptance of a role in a movie the then-Miramax chief was producing, was examined this morning once again by jurors in Weinstein’s sexual misconduct trial.
Although the jurors yesterday requested to hear a read-back of all of Sciorra’s testimony beginning with her cross-examination and going on to re-direct, today they signaled to New York Supreme Court Judge James Burke that they’d heard all they needed before the cross-exam was finished.
Shortly thereafter, the jurors requested a 10-minute break, apparently to go outside for some fresh (and very frigid) Manhattan air.
And so the fourth day of deliberations seemed, once again, to be focused significantly on the former Sopranos actress’ interactions with Weinstein, including her claims that the producer got her addicted to Valium during the filming of 1993’s Miramax movie The Night We Never Met,...

Harvey Weinstein’s defense attorney Damon Cheronis said in court Monday that the former mogul is not faking his bad back for jury sympathy and is willing to call his back surgeon to testify that the walker he uses is for real, despite being a subject of widespread ridicule in the media.
“So stop reading newspapers,” New York Supreme Court Judge James Burke advised, denying the request to call the surgeon.
“The jury thinks that he’s faking it,” Cheronis continued, unsuccessfully. “That could be a problem.”
Weinstein’s walker, which he leans on, stooped over, to enter and exit the courtroom, has been the subject of many news stories and even a Saturday Night Live sketch.
With no cameras allowed inside the courtroom, photos of Weinstein during this trial have been limited to his arrivals to and departures from the Lower Manhattan courthouse.
His only interaction with reporters is as he exits,...

The Manhattan courtroom where Harvey Weinstein is being tried for rape and sexual misconduct took on the aura of a college psychology classroom today as a high-profile cognitive psychologist and defense witness Dr. Elizabeth Loftus testified about false memories and the ways in which misinformation, media coverage and leading questions from police investigators can warp how people recall — and mis-recall — even the most traumatic events.
Loftus is an acknowledged memory expert who has testified — mostly for defense attorneys — in a roster of celebrity trials and litigation including those of O.J. Simpson, the Menendez Brothers, Ted Bundy, Oliver North, Bosnian war criminals, the Oklahoma City bomber and the Duke University lacrosse team. She testified today about the malleability of memory and about how susceptible the human brain is to misremembering events, particularly as time passes. Researchers, she said, have successfully implanted false memories “in the minds of otherwise healthy people” merely by suggestion and “post-event information.

The prosecution in the Manhattan rape trial of Harvey Weinstein rested its case just before lunch today following a morning of largely uneventful, if occasionally vivid, loose-end-tying testimony that stood in contrast to the more dramatic and emotional displays of the last couple days.
The tenor could change this afternoon, though, when Weinstein’s defense begins calling its own witnesses, one of whom is expected to be film and TV director and writer Warren Leight. Best known for his work on work on TV’s Law & Order franchise, Leight is expected to testify about his experience directing Annabella Sciorra in the 1993 film The Night We Never Met.
Earlier in this New York Supreme Court trial, which began January 6, Sciorra tearfully told jurors that Weinstein raped her at her Manhattan apartment in late 1993 or early 1994. Her longtime friend and fellow Brooklyn native Rosie Perez confirmed that Sciorra told her about...

Annabella Sciorra, who received an Emmy nomination for her role on “The Sopranos,” has accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her in the early 1990s and sexually harassing her for years afterward. Her account comes from the New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow, who contacted her for his initial story about Weinstein; she initially told Farrow that the disgraced former executive had never done anything inappropriate for fear of retribution.

“I was so scared. I was looking out the window of my living room, and I faced the water of the East River,” said Sciorra upon contacting Farrow again. “I really wanted to tell you. I was like, ‘This is the moment you’ve been waiting for your whole life.'” The actress said she “really, really panicked” when first speaking to Farrow and “just wanted to get off the phone.

“The Sopranos” actress Annabella Sciorra said Harvey Weinstein “shoved me onto the bed” and raped her in the early 1990s. She told Ronan Farrow in a new piece for The New Yorker that her agent introduced her to Weinstein at a party. Several months later, she approached him about a screenplay a friend of hers had written. Weinstein said he wanted to make the film and for her to star in it, she said. After the film (“The Night We Never Met”) was finished, Sciorra said she became a regular part of “this circle of Miramax.” One night after an industry.

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

Lloyd Kaufman’s Troma Entertainment has posted a bunch of their classic horror films on Hulu, but the one to really watch is the demented 1980 flick Mother’s Day. That’s it embedded above, which you can view in its entirety. Alas, the film is littered with advertisements, but at least it’s shown in all it’s full gory glory. Even if you don’t end up watching the entire film, the opening five minutes are a must see with it’s goofy parody of the E.S.T movement that was popular back in the day and, more importantly, the ambitious decapitation stunt.
Coincidentally, Mark Savage posted up an excellent analysis of the film just a few months ago on his Phantom of Pulp blog, so it’s been on my mind recently. Mother’s Day is another one of those films that came out at the height of the slasher movie craze,...
