He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loved ones. We were playing music for him and he passed during David Bowie’s ‘Starman.’ As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension.

D irector Kamal Swaroop, by answering a volley of questions by his associate Cuckoo, explains his film Om- Dar-Ba-Dar which has already been written about as an ‘entertaining’ and ‘eccentric’ film.
What does ‘Om- Dar-b-Dar’ signify?
I am door by door. Like a moon-frog in a well. Provincial as a TV set. Home on wheels. On a mass level, a train. Travel and rest at once- hold all.
What are the sounds on the titles?
Brass and band. Roadside rehearsal. In the end music.
And the image after?
Outside a travelling cinema. Women deciding to watch or not watch. In a hamlet, Jai Santoshi Maa.
What is before the titles?
Om and ice cream is the dessert, and petrol fumes. And an astrologer who said, “If you make ‘Om- Dar-b-Dar’, the image won’t come. No motor for you ever.” He had a big nose.
And inside the theatre?...

Fangoria has just announced that they have teamed up with Anchor Bay Films for a remake of Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, with Tom Savini directing:
Fangoria Entertainment is partnering with veteran producer Steve Stabler and Anchor Bay Films to produce a startling and humorous new version of director Bob Clark’s seminal 1972 zombie classic Children Shouldn’T Play With Dead Things. The remake, to be shot later this year, will be directed by horror hall of famer and zombie makeup master Tom Savini.
“Children Shouldn’T Play With Dead Things means something special in my life,” says Savini, who won acclaim last summer for his Wet Dreams segment of the festival hit The Theatre Bizarre. “When I did my first movie, it was for Bob Clark and [original Children star/special makeup creator] Alan Ormsby. It was Deathdream, the very next movie they did after Children. One of the scenes involved a drive-in movie theater,...

We’ve had some sad departures from the world of filmmaking recently, but most of the deaths have been people who reached healthy old ages. Which makes the death of writer/director George Hickenlooper, at the age of 47, all the more tragic. Hickenlooper died suddenly on Friday night, as he was in Colorado, supporting his cousin’s political campaign.Hickenlooper had also been kicking off the press rounds for his latest film, the drama Casino Jack, which saw Kevin Spacey playing real-life disgraced American lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is currently languishing in prison. But the filmmaker was probably best known for something he controversially didn’t always get credit for – making Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse, which he worked on with Fax Bahr and Eleanor Coppola, and which chronicled the infamously tough production process for Apocalypse Now. He made his fictional directing debut with Grey Knight, which saw a...

The film community(especially his home town of St. Louis) was stunned to hear of the death of director George Hickenlooper. The forty seven year old was found dead of natural causes in Denver, Co where he was helping his cousin John in his run for governor.
George left behind an impressive list of films. After making Super 8 movies during his years at St. Louis University High School, he continued his studies at USC School of Cinema and Television and Yale and interned with Roger Corman. George’s debut as a professional director was the 1988 short Art,Acting,And The Suicide Chair:Dennis Hopper. While some filmmakers spend their entire careers maximizing the succinct pleasures of the short film, others start out by making shorts that they hope will maximize their chances of becoming a feature film director. This week alone will see the feature debuts of two directors who have turned their short films into full-length one -- Neill Blomkamp, whose 2005 socially conscious alien invasion tale "Alive in Joburg" has been turned into the Peter Jackson-produced "District 9," and Paul Solet, whose 2006 horror short "Grace," about a mother who refuses to give up on her miscarriage has morphed into a feature of the same name starring Jordan Ladd. Here's a look at ten other notable shorts that got the full feature treatment.
