Having recently shifted away from their one-film-a-day approach, Mubi has now unveiled their October lineup, which is headlined by Ira Sachs’ stellar drama Passages following its theatrical run this summer. The slate also features handpicked selections by Sachs, with work by Maurice Pialat, Luchino Visconti, Jack Hazan, Shirley Clarke, and Tsai Ming-liang.
Also arriving in October is “Watch If You Dare: Horror Halloween,” a series featuring a trio of giallo classics, with The Fifth Cord, The Possessed, and Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion, alongside Guillermo del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone and more. The service will also spotlight the work of underseen Japanese director Yasuzô Masumura, including his aching melodrama Red Angel, his biting workplace satire Giants and Toys, his thrilling noir Black Test Car, and more.

Back in 1991, writer/director Rolfe Kanefsky gifted the world with the horror comedy There’s Nothing Out There (watch it Here) – and after all this time, the score Christopher Thomas composed for the film is finally set to receive a CD release, courtesy of Klaatu Records. This release is limited to just 300 units, and copies can be pre-ordered at This Link. They’re expected to start shipping out in October.
Here’s some information on There’s Nothing Out There: The 1991 independent production, written by Kanefsky when he was a high school senior, revolves around Mike (Craig Peck), a genuine horror film buff who has studied every film of the genre on home video and has a developed a sense of impending danger or doom because of it. When a group of teens show up at the nearby cabin in the woods for spring break, Mike tries to warn them about someone or something stalking them.

Matthew McConaughey has insisted that he is not "chasing" an Academy Award by starring in a series of acclaimed dramas.
McConaughey recently earned rave critical reviews for Mud, and will soon appear in the AIDS-themed drama Dallas Buyers Club and Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.
During an interview with USA Today, the actor insisted that his recent film choices have not been motivated by an attempt to win an Oscar.
"There's nothing out there that I am chasing. I want my work to translate," McConaughey said. "Last year was an incredibly creative year of work for me."
He then joked: "It was also the first year I lost money. How about that? Make sure you [write] that I'm saying that with a grin. I'm looking for great experiences."
McConaughey also discussed the prospect of drastically slimming down to play a medication-smuggling AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club.

If you live in Los Angeles and haven't made weekend plans yet, we just got word of a cool upcoming event you should absolutely check out.
On Saturday, May 26, director Rolfe Kanefsky's first flick, There's Nothing Out There, is being screened at the New Beverly Cinema. I know what you're thinking: "What's so special about a screening in L.A.? " But, trust me, this is a pretty big deal.
Kanefsky is a journeyman filmmaker perhaps best known for 2004's The Hazing, a nifty Halloween haunted house flick starring Tiffany Shepis and Brad Dourif. While that is a great movie, Kanefsky's debut is actually something of a groundbreaker.
Filmed in 1989 by a 20-year-old Kanefsky, There's Nothing Out There served as his calling card to the film industry. As a long-time fan of scary movies, Kanefsky concocted a standard horror film — he put a bunch of teenagers alone in a secluded...

Before there was such horror spoofs as Scary Movie starring Anna Faris. Before there was such self referential horror films such as Scream from director Wes Craven. After there was Student Bodies. There was Rolfe Kanefsky's independent horror spoof of "There's Nothing Out There". There's Nothing Out There arrives to DVD today in a 20th Anniversary Edition courtesy of Troma Team Video. There's Nothing Out There went virtually ignored when it first came out, but over the years this trend setting film has went on to find an audience with multiple DVD and video releases over the years. There's Nothing Out There is a criminally underrated film that is still attracting a slow, but surely following. What was especially noteworthy about There's Nothing Out There was the fact that it featured a character who had seen every horror film there was out there and realizes that the actions that...

Incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne is facing financial woes behind bars - he allegedly owes more than $1.13 million in unpaid taxes to the U.S. government. According to documents filed in Dade County Florida Circuit Court on June 3, the "Lollipop" hitmaker owes income taxes from 2004, 2005 and 2007.
This is the second monster tax problem for Lil Wayne, real name real name Dwayne Carter, Jr. - the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) previously filed a $977,840 tax lien against the rapper in 2008, which he later paid. Wayne is expected to walk free from jail in November, after serving eight months of his year-long gun possession sentence in New York's Rikers Island prison.
Drake, who recently visited Wayne, shared, "He kept looking through the window. He'd look up at the window almost like he's looking right through it. It's frosted, so you can't see out. I was like, 'Why does he keep staring through the window?...

There's nothing out there tonight, folks. But I can't leave you hanging. The Freebies list arrives this week, and I thought I might squeeze in another For Your Consideration. This one is for the ladies. And a lot of men, too.
This is three years old, but it's the first I've seen of it. And this much cool has no expiration date. Enjoy.
And this is just from last year, but somehow, I missed it, too.
And this is just bizarre.
And don't forget: "Memphis Beat," tonight at 10pm on TNT.

Drake endured an emotional meeting with his mentor Lil Wayne in jail last week - the incarcerated rapper sat him down for a serious chat to warn him not to make the same mistakes. The "Lollipop" hitmaker signed Drake to his Young Money record label last year, but in March this year he was sentenced to 12 months behind bars on weapons possession charges.
The "Best I Ever Had" hitmaker admits it was hard seeing his mentor locked up, and reveals that during their talk Wayne pleaded with him to stay out of "trouble". He tells MTV News, "He kept looking to the window... I was like, 'Why does he keep staring through the window? There's nothing out there.' To him, there's a whole world moving out there that he hasn't seen for so long..."

"Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" had a first on Thurday, April 29 -- Amanda Kimmel had her torch snuffed by Jeff Probst for the very first time in three seasons on the show.
She talks to Zap2it about her torch snuffing, her 100 Days title and the new organic fragrance she is developing.
What made you want to do Survivor again?
I did it again because I was second twice and I'm really competitive -- I wanted to win. I know this is a great opportunity, I might as well do it again. And I really wanted to win.
You were the first person to reach 100 days playing "Survivor," had you even thought about before the show? What did it feel like when Jeff told you that?
I was really proud to get that title.
Were you surprised that Candice voted for you and not just the five Villains?
Yeah. I kind of knew going into it,...
