This movie played on BET every year for Christmas until BET was sold to those who do not value movies like this one.
It played on UPTV until they stopped playing black movies. Now, I watch it on YouTube. It is really sad how Classic Black movies and, especially, the Christmas ones are grossly undervalued.
I can make assumptions about those who wrote the other reviews posted here but I will not post those assumptions. I do not have to because iykyk. But basically, I am sure the target audience for this movie was Black Americans since few movies were targeted to that demographic. Ijs.
This movie is for the culture!

This is the story of a man and his son who each have a single Christmas wish - to be together. In spite of their many obstacles, they never lose sight of their love for one another. Where most people would have given up, they continue in their quest to be a family.
The powerful performances of the cast members clearly demonstrated why most of these actors are among the most respected black actors in history.
There are aspects of the movie that are unrealistic and predicable. But this isn't a documentary, its a MOVIE. In fact, this movie is probably more realistic than "Its a Wonderful Life" which is arguably the best Christmas movie of all time.
When your family starts to squabble and/or pout about their holiday gifts, show them this movie and they'll realize how fortunate they are.

PLEASE BEWARE OF SOME REVIEWERS THAT ONLY HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW. I HAVE OVER 400 REVIEWS OF "CHRISTMAS RELATED FILMS & SPECIALS" WHEN ITS A POSITIVE THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE PRODUCTION. NOW I HAVE NO AGENDA! I REVIEW MOVIES & SPECIALS AS A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT I HAVE SEEN! I HAVE DISCOVERED MANY GEMS IN MY QUEST TO SEE AS MANY " C H R I S T M A S " MOVIES AS I CAN.
Now Someone keeps reporting my reviews. I guess they are jealous because I do tell the truth. I want to point out that I never make snide remarks about actors weight or real life sexual orientation. If there acting is terrible or limited "I talk about that". If a story is bad "I will mention that" So why am I being "picked on"? IMDB? When one of my reviews gets deleted IMDB will not even tell me what someone found offensive. Well on to this review.
This is an enjoyable film. The title is however very misleading. I did not read what this film was about. What I thought I was getting was a film about "A Child who spreads the Joy of Christmas" in any way he can. Well that is not the story. What this film is about how a man and child struggling to stay a family during Christmas. The main story is that a Chicago social worker (Cicely Tyson) helps a jazz saxophonist (Michael Warren) adopt a son (Trent J. Cameron) after losing his wife.
The cast is great. The story is a tad predictable. However the overall film is family safe and well worth watcing!

Reggie has gone through a lot in his life. But he finally has foster parents who want to adopt him. Everything looks good until the mother dies in an accident. Although the idealistic social worker would like to see the father adopt Reggie, her by-the-book supervisor won't allow it. The father is a traveling jazz musician, and that's just not right for the boy. As in most movies like this, the father and son both seem to think that by breaking the rules and making trouble, they can help their case. The father does try returning to his old 9-to-5 job but he is a musician and can't get that out of his system. Reggie gets moved from one unpleasant foster home to another but it seems no one wants him. Things seem hopeless, and it would take a miracle to make everyone happy. Great cast, including Sammy Davis Jr. in one of his last roles, showing obvious signs of the illness that took his life. Great music too. An enjoyable story overall.
This all-star cast will take you inside each character and you will be emotionally charged with love, hate and sorrow.
Little Reggie finally finds true love only to find out that it will all be taken away. He in turns decides to take matters into his own hands to try and keep him united with his new family.
