    James Dalton (Patrick Swayze) a slick and tough cooler relocates from New York City to Jasper when Frank Tilghman (Kevin Tilghman) hires Dalton to supervise security at his local nightclub the Double Deuce which is being overrun by violent thugs and troublemakers whom are damaging the nightclub's reputation. Arriving in Jasper, Dalton beings working as the nightclub's new cooler and takes charge of the bar business and the bouncers and helps them deal with the unwanted thugs and troublemakers. However, Dalton soon catches the attention of Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara) an evil crime kingpin whom controls the town after Dalton has the Double Deuce's bartender Pat (Whom happens to be Wesley's nephew) fired when he catches him skimming money from the cash register and beings a romantic relationship with the beautiful Dr. Elizabeth Clay (Kelly Lynch) whom tends to Dalton's knife wound which Dalton sustained in a attack from Pat and Wesley's henchmen. As Dalton's mentor and best friend Wade Garrett (Sam Elliott) arrives to help out at the Double Deuce, Dalton gets disgusted with Wesley for extorting local businesses and when Wesley goes too far when he has his best henchman Jimmy (Marshall Teague) blow up Dalton's landlord Emmett's ("Sunshine" Parker) house resulting in a brutal fight between Dalton and Jimmy and Wesley murders Wade. An vengeful and enraged Dalton sets off to Wesley's estate and engages Wesley and his henchmen in a final showdown.
