5 Movies That Got Rewritten to Death
Image
It’s not uncommon for even some of the most beloved movies to undergo extensive rewrites. Hey, Good Will Hunting was initially a thriller about a math genius working for the Nsa, and no, that’s not a joke. Sometimes, though, a movie gets exponentially worse with each rewrite, starting with a brilliant script and getting whittled down to box-office toothpicks.

5 Dragonball Evolution

If you want to see a Dragon Ball Z fan get mad, steal their lunch money, but you could also try mentioning the 2009 movie, which was both disowned by fans as barely resembling the series and lambasted by critics. Both lamented the movie that could have been, however, after the original script surfaced on the internet. It stuck much more closely to the original manga’s storyline, but it was deemed too expensive by the studio, who forced screenwriter Ben Ramsey into no fewer than five rewrites.

A Ghostbusters Co-Writer & Star Directed Some Of The Office's Most Memorable Episodes
Image
As TV shows go, "The Office" is a goldmine of endless trivia, as evidenced by the fact that multiple former stars have started podcasts breaking down the series since it went off the air in 2013. The "Office Ladies" podcast is hosted by Pam and Angela actors Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, while Kevin actor Brian Baumgartner hosted the podcast "An Oral History of The Office" before spinning that off into yet another podcast "The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner." Each of these retrospectives are must-listen resources for fans of the original series, as they provide exhaustive insights into how the show was produced, revealing every bit of behind-the-scenes trivia you could possibly want -- and there's a heck of a lot of it.

One particularly interesting aspect of these series is that it allows the former cast members to reminisce about some of the series' high-profile directors. Throughout its nine-season run,...

Ernie Hudson Reflects on Harold Ramis' Legacy and Ghostbusters: Afterlife Tribute
Image
Fans were first introduced to the Ghostbusters when the first movie hit theaters in 1984. The franchise experienced a resurgence decades later with the release of legacy sequels, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, in 2021 and 2024 respectively.

Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in all four sequels, recently reflected on the legacy of Harold Ramis, who starred in and co-wrote the first two movies with Dan Aykroyd. "Harold, for me, was always the glue that sort of held things together, because when you're working on a show with such dynamic personalities that don't always come together," the actor told The Direct. "But Harold was a guy that everyone respected enough to put aside their own stuff and get the job done. So, he was always a go-to guywhen things were a little nuts."

Ghostbusters Prop Auction Includes Harold Ramis' Screen-Worn Gear
Image
Ghostbustersfans wanting to own a piece of their favorite movie franchise may want to call their bankers because several screen-used items are hitting the auction block for Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. Per Ghostbusters News, the auction, held March 26 through March 28, contains items worn by Harold Ramis’ character, Dr. Egon Spengler, among other unique collectibles.

Perhaps the marquee item for Spengler fans is the screen-matched jumpsuit worn by Ramis in 1989’s Ghostbusters II. Per the listing on Propstore, the jumpsuit was worn by Spengler throughout the movie, from the initial Ghostbusters reunion until the end when the team triumphed over Vigo the Carpathian. The listing states, “Wrinkles and stitchings around the patches screen-match the jumpsuit to early scenes where the team investigated the museum that held Vigo’s haunted portrait.”

The jumpsuit has an estimate of $25,000 to $50,000 and currently has one bid of $12,500. The suit was designed by costume designer Gloria Gresham.

Chevy Chase Consoled Oscar Loser Dan Aykroyd During the Ceremony
Image
The Academy Awards have honored legendary actors like Meryl Streep, Daniel Day-Lewis, Sidney Poitier, Al Pacino and Katharine Hepburn. They also once nominated the Bass-o-Matic guy.

It’s easy to forget that Dan Aykroyd was nominated for an Oscar back in 1990, thanks to his work in a certain 1989 film — no, not Ghostbusters II. Although, if there was a “Best Performance By An Actor Pretending to Drive a Slime-Covered Statue of Liberty With a Nintendo Controller” category, he would have been a shoo-in.

Play

Aykroyd was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for playing Jessica Tandy’s son in Driving Miss Daisy. Today the movie is generally considered to be one of the worst Best Picture winners in Oscars history, a tone-deaf exploration of racism whose primary focus was to alleviate white guilt. Making its shortcomings all the more glaring was the fact that Spike Lee’s more challenging, nuanced take on contemporary race relations,...

10 Godzilla Fights That Make No Sense
Image
Since his emergence in 1954, Godzilla has gotten into many fights. Sometimes, it was because of his instinct to destroy, and other times, it was because he wanted to establish himself as the apex predator on a planet riddled with kaiju. Whatever the reason, Godzilla remains a true force of nature, who stands as an allegory for man-made disasters even to this day.

Although Godzilla's fights have earned him the moniker of King of the Monsters, some of his bouts are simply out of the realm of logic and common sensibilities. And this is not confined to any one era. Godzilla movies often use the pretext of fun for artistic freedom, thus leaving behind a legacy of kaiju fights that make little sense.

'Ghostbusters' Star Ernie Hudson Wants a Bigger Role in New Sequels
Image
Ghostbusters is undoubtedly one of the most beloved film franchises to come out of the 1980s, and after more than 30 years, we finally saw the band back together again in Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021. The fun continued in last year's Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and while it wasn’t exactly what you’d call a box office smash, star Ernie Hudson still wants to keep moving things forward, and perhaps play a bigger role in the franchise as it continues to develop.

Speaking with ScreenRant at the WGA Awards this past weekend, Hudson – who portrays Winston Zeddemore – told them that he'd love for his character to be featured more prominently in future Ghostbusters projects. Up until this point, Winston has always been a reliable person to count on, but he's never really been front and center since joining Ray, Egon, and Peter halfway through the original film. "I want to see Winston...

The Real Reason Director Ivan Reitman Never Made Ghostbusters 3
Image
Following the limited box-office success of "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," there's an argument that now might finally be the time to give up the ghost (corps) for good. Five films in, and the numbers suggest that the franchise isn't what it used to be. But then, had Ivan Reitman had his way, he probably wouldn't have let it get that far. During an appearance on Neal Brennan's "Blocks" podcast, Reitman's son and director of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," Jason Reitman, revealed why his father never returned to the firehouse after "Ghostbusters II" to give the world a "Ghostbusters III." In an industry that thrived on giving us more of the same, Ivan Reitman was happier doing anything but, and might've preferred shutting the trap for good after "Ghostbusters" in 1984.

"My dad never understood sequels. My dad was like, 'I don't know why people want to return to this stuff,'" Jason Reitman explained.

'Don't Feed Your Dog Twinkies': Ghostbusters Star Ernie Hudson Named National Ambassador for Puppy Food Bank

Louis Tully’s “Okay, who brought the dog?” line in 1984’s Ghostbustersis ringing true for another star of the classic movie. Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise, is now the new national ambassador for Puppy Food Bank. “As a longtime animal advocate, I am proud to support Puppy Food Bank to help ensure pet rescue organizations across the U.S. are equipped with the necessary resources to save more pet lives,” Hudson said. Puppy Food Bank is a national nonprofit organization that provides food supplies to pet rescue organizations throughout the country. 'Frozen Empire' Director Reveals the Real Reason 'Ghostbusters 3' Didn't Happen for Three Decades
Image
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Jason Reitman has revealed the reason behind the three-decade-long hiatus between 1989's Ghostbusters II and 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Apparently, it all had to do with his father's feelings about sequels.

Reitman's father, Ivan, the Hollywood legend who passed away in 2022, was responsible for many comedy classics throughout the decades. Among those was 1984's supernatural comedy Ghostbusters, the first entry in the franchise about a group of pseudo-scientists hunting down ghosts. And although Reitman did Ghostbusters II in 1989, it appears he wasn't keen on revisiting previous characters or their stories

Jason addressed this on the Blocks Podcast with Neil Brennan, where he spoke about his career and growing up in a household where he must have learned every bit about filmmaking. According to the director of both modern Ghostbusters films, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, his father liked the idea of continuing the original storyline with new characters,...

Ivan Reitman Didn’t Understand Why People Wanted So Many ‘Ghostbusters’ Movies
Image
It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when the Ghostbusters franchise consisted of just a single movie. Since the original Ghostbusters hit theaters in 1984, it’s spawned a near-countless number of sequels, comic books, TV cartoons and, of course, branded citrus juices.

Oh, and theme-park attractions, like the one in which Beetlejuice uses magic to force the Ghostbusters to dance to “I’m Too Sexy” and Smash Mouth’s “All-Star.”

Oddly enough, one person who didn’t understand why the Ghostbusters franchise needed to be a franchise was the guy who literally made Ghostbusters.

As reported by Ghostbustersnews.com, Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, recently guested on comedian Neal Brennan’s podcast Blocks. While discussing his work on Ghostbusters: Afterlife (which he confessed was the “least funny Ghostbusters movie”), Jason Reitman made a surprising admission about his father. “My dad never understood sequels. My dad was like,...

Ghostbusters franchise: Jason Reitman says his father Ivan “never understood sequels”
Image
Ivan Reitman was the director of the 1984 supernatural comedy classic Ghostbusters – but it took him five years to get around to making Ghostbusters II, and the film franchise went dormant for a long time after that. We didn’t get another Ghostbusters movie until the reboot in 2016, then Reitman’s son Jason came in to direct Ghostbusters: Afterlife (which ignored the reboot and tied back to the first two films) in 2021. Jason Reitman stayed on to produce and co-write 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and more projects are in the works with Reitman in a producer role. Fans have always been aware that one of the reasons why we didn’t get a Ghostbusters 3 sooner is the fact that Bill Murray was reluctant to reprise the role of Ghostbuster Peter Venkman – but during an interview on Neal Brennan’s Blocks podcast, Jason Reitman said that another issue was, “My dad never understood sequels.

'Ghostbusters' Ecto-1 Replica Sells for Nearly $300,000 at Auction
Image
An incredibly detailed replica of the Ecto-1 from the Ghostbusters franchise just sold at auction for nearly $300,000. The fully operational car, a souped-up 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance, went up for sale at the annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, where it fetched a mighty sum.

Not only is this Ecto-1 an exact copy of the car as seen in the original film, the driver's side visor and dashboard bear the signatures of Ghostbusters stars Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and William Atherton – who played Epa agent Walter Peck in the 1984 blockbuster. With its lovingly customized interior and full functionality, this car is a Ghostbusters fan's dream come true.

Ghostbusters News reports that the restoration process for this replica began in 2012 under the supervision of Dr. Stewart A. Berkowitz, a collector of props from television and movies and an all-around pop culture expert who sadly passed away in March 2024. Further work...

'My Dad Never Understood Sequels': Jason Reitman Talks Ghostbusters 2
Image
It’s been 36 years since Ghostbusters II hit theaters in 1989 - five years after the original Ghostbusters, which went on to become an instant classic, was released. Now, Jason Reitman, who directed 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is opening up about what his father, the late filmmaker Ivan Reitman, really thought about the second Ghostbusters movie.

While Ghostbusters II was a hit, it made significantly less at the worldwide box office, earning $112.4 million, per Box Office Mojo, while the first film in the franchise made nearly $300 million globally. Reitman, per ghostbustersnews.com, recently appeared on Neal Brennan’s Blocks podcast and talked about the first film sequel.

It’s Hard to Believe Bill Murray’s Total Earnings from the Ghostbusters Franchise
Image
Soon after originating in 1984, the supernatural comedy, Ghostbusters, turned into a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences with its humor and suspense. And now, after decades since its inception, the films found themselves among the most iconic franchises in the history of cinema. Well, a major thanks goes to Bill Murray, whose comic timing catapulted the franchise to its success.

The Unlikely Comedy That Beat Batman To Become Jack Nicholson's Biggest Opening Weekend
Image
Jack Nicholson was already a major star before he played the Joker in 1989's "Batman." But his unprecedented deal with Warner Bros. for that particular blockbuster netted the actor more than $50 million and made him one of the wealthiest performers in Hollywood — not to mention one of the most influential. After somehow wangling a portion of the profits from both the box office and merchandising revenues from "Batman," Nicholson set a new precedent for big-name performers moving forward. The actor also basically ensured that "Batman" never actually turned a profit for Warners even though it became a box office smash.

When "Batman" debuted in the summer of 89, it arrived amid a public frenzy dubbed "Bat-mania" by the media. Audiences were clamoring for director Tim Burton's take on the Caped Crusader, which promised to restore the "Batman" property to its dark roots and deliver a serious take on a...

Bill Murray Confronted Roger Ebert Over Bad Review For ‘Scrooged’
Image
While Bill Murray’s Scrooged has become required holiday viewing, it wasn’t universally beloved upon its release in 1988. Noted film critic Roger Ebert, for one, wasn’t a fan.

“Scrooged is one of the most disquieting, unsettling films to come along in quite some time,” Ebert wrote in his scathing one-star review. “It was obviously intended as a comedy, but there is little comic about it, and indeed, the movie’s overriding emotions seem to be pain and anger. This entire production seems to be in dire need of visits from the ghosts of Christmas.”

Bad reviews are part of the business, but that doesn’t mean Murray couldn’t question them. Two years later, Murray was scheduled for a sit-down with Ebert to discuss his directorial debut, Quick Change, according to Far Out.

Ebert wrote about their initial interaction. Murray popped into a bathroom to get camera-ready, only...

'Ghostbusters 2' Is the Best Underrated Christmas Movie
Image
There’s something about the Ghostbusters franchise that makes everyone feel good. Whether it’s the original film from 1984, or Ghostbusters: Afterlife, one of the recent entries, the Ghostbusters films are designed for sheer entertainment with the perfect blend of horror and comedy. And while the reception has varied throughout the years, it is one of those funny franchises that will always make you smile, regardless of generational gaps.

1989’s Ghostbusters II is a great example of a good sequel that was always overshadowed by the quality of the first movie. Decades after its release, its meta approach, its right dose of horror, and its inherent holiday spirit make it a rewatchable second part that manages to equal its predecessor in many ways.

'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' Lands Top Spot on HBO Movie Chart After Max Streaming Debut
Image
Say it once, say it twice, and it’s third time the charm for Tim Burton and Michael Keaton’s belated sequel to their 1988 hit Beetlejuice. After exorcising the box office earlier this year, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has followed up its successful VOD release by materializing at the top of the HBO chart as it arrived on Max. Launching on December 6, the film easily snatched the number one spot to continue the incredible run of a movie that almost never happened.

The original Beetlejuice was released in 1988, and introduced the world to Keaton’s mischievous freedom-seeking demon Betelgeuse. The Tim Burton movie was a box office hit, hauling in over $70 million from a $15 million budget, and delivering plenty of laughs, scares, and an iconic performance from Keaton in the titular role. Despite becoming an instant pop culture icon, and spawning an animated TV show, plans for a sequel proved to be...

Scream 7 Casts Ghostbusters Franchise Star In Mystery Role
Image
Scream 7 adds a Ghostbusters star to its cast. The two franchises share a unique legacy as iconic cultural staples, each rooted in late 20th century thrills. The Scream series, which debuted in 1996, revolutionized the slasher genre with its meta-commentary and gripping murder mysteries centered around the Ghostface killer. The horror franchise continues to evolve with a new generation of victims, killers, shocking twists, and self-referential humor. With Kevin Williamson's Scream 7 on the horizon, the latest installment promises another bloody addition to its storied history.

On the other hand, the Ghostbusters franchise has solidified its place as a beloved pop culture phenomenon, beginning with Ivan Reitman's Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, as it combines supernatural thrills with the comedic charm of its stars. Revitalized with Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), the series has evolved from '80s nostalgia to a new generation. Its follow-up, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, continues...

'Gladiator 2' and 'Wicked' Go Head-To-Head at Weekend Box Office
Image
Appropriately enough, Wicked was the overwhelmingly Popular choice over the weekend for moviegoers flocking to see the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical. And while Gladiator II fared well enough to finish in second place at the box office, it was The Wizard of Oz prequel that ascended to No. 1. Wicked made an estimated $114 million domestically during its debut (per The Numbers). Meanwhile, No. 2 Gladiator II showed strong with $55.5 million to win the silver medal.

Propelled by the strength of its opening day take of $46.5 million, the Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-led Wicked stormed ahead of Gladiator IIs more modest $22 million start en route to a huge victory over the weekend. Fans and critics both seemed to prefer the magical musical over the Colosseum-sized drama on Rotten Tomatoes. And audiences grading the films as they left theaters gave Wicked an A CinemaScore, while Gladiator II had to settle for a B.

The final moments of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire features a sweet tribute to Ivan Reitman, which is a fitting farewell to the legendary director. For most of its run-time, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has fun bringing back characters and locations from the original Ghostbusters movies to interact with the next generation of the franchise. This includes a few key tributes to past characters and concepts, bringing back much of the original surviving cast for certain moments.

However, the sweetest tribute to the history of the series comes towards the end of the film, and takes on multiple additional meanings. Instead of just being a chance to highlight the franchise's past and future, the ending of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire also includes a sweet note that explains the film was "For Ivan." This is a reference to one of the creatives who was responsible for the original Ghostbusters, and whose impact on the franchise has been felt for decades.

Ernie Hudson thanks Bill Murray for getting him cast in Ghostbusters II
Image
Ernie Hudson seems to have a love-hate relationship with the entire Ghostbusters series, acknowledging its significance in his career but also recognizing that the studio crossed the streams when it came to promoting the movies. But one aspect that shines above the rest is his admiration for Peter Venkman himself, Bill Murray, who he recognizes helped him star onboard for the 1989 sequel.

Appearing at the Rhode Island Comic Con over the weekend (via People), Ernie Hudson remembered that his casting in Ghostbusters II wasn’t exactly a guarantee. “Bill Murray is the only actor I think I’ve ever worked with who when they tried to get him to do another [Ghostbusters] — remember it was about 20 years before we came back with another movie after the second movie. But Bill just basically said, ‘If Ernie Hudson’s not in it, I’m not doing it.’ There are not many people...

Ghostbusters' Ernie Hudson Reflects On Bill Murray's Support In Returning For 1989 Sequel
Image
Ernie Hudson, known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise, reflected on how one co-star supported him in returning for 1989's Ghostbusters II. The original Ghostbusters (1984) became an iconic comedy hit, blending supernatural action with sharp humor alongside a stellar cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Hudson. Directed by Ivan Reitman, the film followed a group of parapsychologists who started a ghost-catching business in New York City. Its success led to the sequel, Ghostbusters II, which reunited the original cast to battle a new supernatural threat.

While attending a panel at the Rhode Island Comic Con (via People), Hudson shared a heartfelt memory of Murrays support during the early Ghostbusters days. Though his character, Winston, joined the team later in the first movie, he became a central figure, and Murrays support proved pivotal in ensuring Hudsons return for the sequel. Hudson further revealed that...

Another hot ticket item, presented at the Academy Museum Gala on October 19 in Los Angeles, is Quentin Tarantino’s personal, handwritten script for “Pulp Fiction,” which won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar and celebrated its 30th anniversary this year.

Filmmakers Curtis Hanson, Nicole Holofcener, Barbara Kopple, Oliver Stone, and Paul Verhoeven also donated their personal collections to the Academy, which features production records, photographs, scripts, and more from films such as “L.A. This New Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Toy Is Incredible, But The Pricetag Is Mass Hysteria
Image
When "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" arrived in 2021, soaked in nostalgia, it gave Hasbro an excuse to dig back into the legacy of "Ghostbusters" and deliver new action figures of the original team of paranormal exterminators. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson all got new action figures from the original "Ghostbusters" in Hasbro's six-inch line of Plasma Series collectibles, as well as new figures inspired by their aged appearances (or ghostly in the case of the late Ramis) in "Afterlife." However, there was one signature element of "Ghostbusters" missing from this toy line, and Hasbro's crowdfunding collectible arm HasLab is rectifying that soon.

Today, Hasbro announced that the latest HasLab crowdfunded collectible release is an Ecto-1 vehicle scaled to the six-inch Plasma Series figures. The collectible vehicle will come with a bunch of exclusive accessories, especially if you buy the deluxe version inspired by "Ghostbusters II," and there's one particularly...

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire's Frigid Milestone Shows the Limits of the Franchise
Image
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the latest entry in the classic movie series, but when it comes to the box office, it seems that bustin' no longer makes audiences feel good. The movie had a mixed reception among fans and critics, and its financial performance has been even icier. Barely crossing $200 million Usd at the global box office, the movie proves that there might not be much more warmth to be found in the franchise.

Having long since its theatrical run, the performance of the Frozen Empire box office run is eerily similar to the rest of the series. This lack of growth underlies the main problem, as it's a property that seems to only barely survive through nostalgia. If the Ghostbusters have any chance at connecting with modern audiences, it'll be by finally escaping the shadow of the original movie.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Ghost Designs, Ranked
Image
Any Ghostbusters film is only as good as its ghosts. After all, without ghosts to bust, there would be no need for the iconic team to step out of the firehouse. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire had a cool concept for its main villain, Garraka. Garraka is an ancient deity-type monster with the power to control any spirit he wishes. With a main antagonist that can control other ghosts at the helm of the ship, Frozen Empire had a lot of potential to produce some of the coolest ghost designs the franchise has ever seen.

Unfortunately, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire fell short in many ways. While critics and fans haven't agreed about the newest Ghostbusters installment, the reviews haven't been phenomenal. The ghosts also left a little something to be desired. While Garraka looked awesome, the film wasn't busting with the army of spirits a ghost-controlling entity like Garraka should produce. That said,...

Dan Aykroyd Praises ‘Saturday Night’ As A “Standalone Masterpiece”
Image
Saturday Night is now in theaters, and at least one person who was there has given his seal of approval.

After seeing the Jason Reitman-helmed film about the 90 minutes before the first Saturday Night Live broadcast in 1975, Og cast member Dan Aykroyd took to social media with a rave review on Friday, which also marked the 49th anniversary of the NBC sketch comedy show’s debut.

“Cracking a Head to applaud Jason Reitman’s triumphant SNL film,” he wrote on X. “Wow! What a propulsive, engaging, funny, beautifully cast and acted, suspenseful, adventurous, music-filled ride. A perfect window into the creative process at its highest level.”

Aykroyd added, “Pretty accurate too. I was there that night and got to relive it wonderfully again. Congratulations Gil [Kenan, co-writer], Jason and [producer Jason Blumenfeld]. Don’t miss it whether you know the show or not. It is a stand-alone masterpiece and surefire candidate for Best Picture.

Ghostbusters Franchise Future Gets Update After Lukewarm Frozen Empire Reception
Image
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan shares an update on the future of the franchise following the lukewarm reception to his most recent installment. After the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), the Ghostbusters franchise returned in 2023 with Frozen Empire, a film that sees new and legacy characters come together to stop a villain named Garraka from destroying New York City. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire reviews were mixed from critics, and the film wasn't a box office hit, raising questions about what's next for the franchise.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Kenan shares a vague update regarding the future of the Ghostbusters franchise after Frozen Empire, confirming that more film projects are currently being discussed. Though doesn't provide any details about what's coming next in terms of story or cast, he does tease that they will be projects made for "the big screen." Check out his comment below:

Ghostbusters (2016) Director Paul Feig On The Reboot's Negative Reception: "So Many Were Trump Supporters"
Image
When the news first broke that an all-female Ghostbusters reboot was in the works that would completely disregard the previous movies and establish a brand-new continuity without the iconic members of the original team, there was, not too surprisingly, a lot of backlash.

While some of the responses were just flat out misogynistic rants, the biggest issue for a lot of fans was that they weren't getting a direct sequel with Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore (Egon Spengler actor Harold Ramis had passed by this stage).

Even so, many people were willing to give the movie a chance... until they saw it.

Ghostbusters 2016 was far from an unmitigated disaster, but a solid first act soon gave way to tired gags, pointless cameos, and a ridiculous ending that really just served as a retread of the original. Reviews were decent all the same (74% on Rotten Tomatoes), and there is...

Dylan O’Brien “Can’t Wait” To Meet Dan Aykroyd After ‘Saturday Night’ Portrayal

Dylan O’Brien is keeping a pretty cool head after undertaking his latest role.

The Saturday Night actor said he “can’t wait” to meet Dan Aykroyd following his portrayal of the Saturday Night Live alum in the upcoming Jason Reitman-helmed film, which premieres nationwide on Oct. 11, the 49th anniversary of the NBC sketch comedy show’s first episode.

“I’m okay if my guy hates it. It’s acceptance. That was my method,” he joked to People about Aykroyd’s potential reaction to his performance.

“I hear we’re very similar, in a way that I never knew,” added O’Brien. “I feel like we’re going to get along.”

Saturday Night takes place on October 11, 1975, as a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers change television forever. Formerly titled SNL 1975, the film tells the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night in the 90 minutes...

Sigourney Weaver Career In Photos: From ‘Aliens’, ‘Working Girl’ & ‘The Ice Storm’ To ‘Avatar’
Image
With a career spanning over 50 years, Sigourney Weaver has showcased her versatility across Broadway, television, and film, creating iconic heroic characters in both dramatic and comedic roles. Her remarkable talent has earned her three Academy Award nominations.

Born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949, in New York City, she adopted the name Sigourney at age 14, inspired by a character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby.

Weaver graduated from Stanford University and obtained a master’s degree from the Yale School of Drama. Even as she found fame and success on the screen, she would maintain her love for the stage throughout her career. Her many theater credits include four Broadway productions: Sir John Gielgud’s production of The Constant Wife in 1975, the groundbreaking 1984 production of David Rabe’s Hurlyburly opposite William Hurt, Harvey Keitel and a newcomer named Cynthia Nixon, and the 1996 production of Sex and Longing, written...

'I Was So Relieved': Sigourney Weaver on Why Ghostbusters Casting Came at the Right Time
Image
Between 1979 and 1989, Sigourney Weaver appeared in a slew of popular movies, starting with the sci-fi horror Alien. The actor recently reflected on that time in her career, saying that her Ghostbusters role came at the right time.

Speaking to Deadline, Weaver explained that she was glad that playing Dana Barrett allowed her to move away from the seriousness of her Alien character. "I was so relieved! Ripley was so serious, you may even say humorless in her circumstances," she said. "I had come from comedic theater and that's where I felt most comfortable. When I read Ghostbusters, it knocked my socks off."

Related Ghostbusters Animated Series Officially Moving Forward at Netflix

After Frozen Empire drew high viewership in the streaming service, Netflix has greenlit an all-new Ghostbusters animated series.

Weaver also recalled how she felt about the Ghostbusters' screenplay at the time. "It's one of the best scripts I've ever read and so delightful.

Sigourney Weaver, On Eve Of Her Venice Lifetime Achievement Award, Lifts Lid On Remarkable Career From ‘Alien’ To ‘Avatar’, ‘Working Girl’ To ‘Ghostbusters’ And ‘Star Wars’ Role To Come
Image
Exclusive: Two years ago, Sigourney Weaver handed the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to the filmmaker Paul Schrader. As she explains to us in a rare sit-down, she didn’t imagine that two years later she would be receiving the same accolade.

Looking over her career is to be quickly reminded that there are few actresses working today who are more deserving. Between Alien, Ghostbusters and Avatar, Weaver has left an indelible mark on some of cinema’s most iconic sci-fi franchises. As Ellen Ripley, she represented a heroine unprecedented in the action and sci-fi genre up to that point.

But the three-time Oscar nominee is perhaps most worthy of the Venice award she will receive at the festival Wednesday for her remarkable range, and her ability in the words of Venice festival director Alberto Barbera to “side-step labels that sought to restrict her”: “She...

Gilbert Gottfried’s Cameo Was Cut From ‘Ghostbusters II’
Image
While it’s mostly been embraced by nostalgia-drunk Ghostbusters fans today, Ghostbusters II was generally regarded as a disappointment when it was initially released in 1989, with the primary complaint being that it followed the beats of the first movie way too closely.

Both films conclude with a citywide ghost invasion that requires the Ghostbusters to fight a giant monster — the first time it was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the second was the Statue of Liberty. The Ghostbusters are also locked up in both movies — in the first, they’re thrown in jail; in the second, they’re placed in a psychiatric institute. And finally, the Ghostbusters are disrespected by the city in both movies, which makes no sense in the sequel since they just saved everyone in the first film.

There was, however, one deleted scene from the sequel that would have made it utterly unlike the first film:...

Inside Dan Aykroyd’s ‘90s Ghostbusters 3 That Never Got Made
Image
Forty years ago this summer, a perfect storm of moviemaking elements came together with almost supernatural precision: SNL alums like Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray at the height of their popularity; director Ivan Reitman and co-writer Harold Ramis at the peak of their creativity; unexpectedly innovative and convincing VFX developed by Richard Edlund on a budget because Ilm was too busy; and a weathered and weary New York City that, still a decade out from “urban renewal,” proved a perfect backdrop for a comedy about working stiffs going into business.

All these elements and more seemed to capture lightning in a bottle at a specific time and place for one of the great American comedies. In retrospect, it seems almost impossible to duplicate. But that doesn’t mean there was a lack of trying. Despite Ghostbusters being a singularly deadpanned ‘80s comedy, the film has generated cartoon spinoffs, video games,...

All 15 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Easter Eggs & References
Image
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire pays homage to older films in the franchise and other horror movies through Easter eggs and callbacks. The sequel confirms the events of Ghostbusters II and uses real commercials from the 1989 movie in a news broadcast. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire introduces new characters but is also packed with callbacks to earlier movies and The Real Ghostbusters.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

While Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has plenty of its own surprises, the sequel has a slew of Easter eggs and callbacks to other horror movies and earlier entries in the franchise. The Ghostbusters series has a long, storied history. In 1984, Ghostbusters became a massive blockbuster hit upon release. The original movies box office success resulted in an animated TV spinoff, The Real Ghostbusters, and a 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II. The franchise then went quiet until 2016, when Ghostbusters: Answer The Call revived the series. This divisive reboot didnt spawn any sequels,...

'Ghostbusters II' Originally Had an Ending That Audiences Hated
Image
When Ghostbusters came out in 1984, it was the biggest movie of the year in a year filled with big movies. The Ivan Reitman film turned its actors into huge stars, but like any movie that makes a ton of money at the box office, Hollywood needed a sequel. Five years later, in 1989, we got one with Ghostbusters II, and while it had the impossible task of trying to be just as good as the instant classic that came before, it's still a fine movie. It worked by bringing back its four leads, along with the compelling supporting characters played by Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis. That first movie got people's attention by being something we'd never seen before, but Ghostbusters II still had a few surprises up its sleeve by going bigger. If the first movie had the Stay Puft marshmallow man terrorizing New York City, well, then Ghostbusters II...

'I Liked the Movie': Dan Aykroyd Defends 2016 Ghostbusters Reboot
Image
Ghostbusters franchise star Dan Aykroyd has come to the defense of the 2016 reboot, retroactively titled Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. Though Aykroyd was disappointed in the job he did as a producer behind the scenes, he said he loved how the movie turned out, referring to it as a film you "want to watch again."

After playing Ray Stantz in two Ghostbusters movies, Aykroyd saw the franchise get rebooted in 2016 by director Paul Feig. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call introduced an all-new cast of characters comprised of women in the four leads. Even before its release, the film was pummeled with heavy criticism, and the franchise has since gone back to its roots by featuring the original movies' characters in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire. Reflecting on the 2016 reboot, via People, Aykroyd noted how he disagreed with the movie's critics, explaining why he personally enjoyed Ghostbusters: Answer the Call.

Original Ghostbusters Star Has Change Of Heart About 2016 Female Reboot: "I'm Fully Supportive Of It"
Image
Dan Aykroyd no longer resents the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot and admits the high budget was his fault. He now fully supports the movie and praises the all-female cast led by Melissa McCarthy. Aykroyd believes the film worked well and is proud to have been a part of it.

Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz) no longer resents Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016). The 2016 reboot starred a women-led cast that featured Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the four ghostbusting stars, while Chris Hemsworth joined them as an assistant. The controversial Ghostbusters movie earned $229.1 million at the box office, a weak showing compared to the $144 million budget. Aykroyd admitted that enjoyed the movie but believed the cost was too immense.

Eight years after the release, Aykroyd has changed his mind and believes any issues were his own doing. In an interview with People, Aykroyd revealed that the high...

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empires Nod To This 51-Year-Old Horror Movie Is The Perfect Tribute To Ivan Reitman
Image
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire pays tribute to Ivan Reitman in a subtle nod to his 1973 film, Cannibal Girls. Cannibal Girls follows a couple who are terrorized by a group of beautiful, cannibalistic women. The Cannibal Girls reference in Frozen Empire is the third to occur in the Ghostbusters franchise.

It may be subtle, but one line from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is actually the perfect nod to Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman. Over the years, Reitman has been at the very core of every Ghostbusters movie. In 1984, Reitman directed and produced the very first Ghostbusters movie. Five years later, he returned for Ghostbusters II. From there, he continued to be a producer on every subsequent Ghostbusters film, including the 2016 remake and the two modern-day reboots starring McKenna Grace. Though Reitman passed away in 2022, his legacy remains in one humorous way in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Although Ghostbusters is a massive part of Ivan Reitman's filmography,...
