Field of Dreams

Mike Schur Gave Chris Pratt a Career Only for Him to Ruin His Dream TV Show Inspired by Kevin Costner
Image
Michael Schur and Chris Pratt are some of the most celebrated names in modern entertainment. Schur has earned acclaim for incredible work on shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation, the latter of which also helped catapult Pratt to stardom. Meanwhile, Pratt has transitioned into a full-fledged movie star, headlining major franchises since his days on the NBC sitcom.

However, their shared legacy goes beyond the beloved sitcom that launched their collaboration. In fact, Schur and Pratt were once poised to reunite on a passion project, a TV series based on Field of Dreams, which unfortunately never made it to air, reportedly due to Pratt himself.

Michael Schur was set to adapt Kevin Costner’s Field of Dreams for TV

Kevin Costner’s 1989 classic Field of Dreams isn’t just a film. The story of Ray Kinsella, a farmer who builds a baseball diamond in his cornfield after hearing a mysterious voice,...

Kevin Costner Beat Martin Scorsese for Best Director, But That Hides a Sad Reality About His Career
Image
It is undeniable that when Kevin Costner emerged on the skies of filmmaking with Dances With Wolves, he took Hollywood by storm. In fact, his expertise was so well-rounded that his 1990 neo-Western was so well-rounded that the film swept the 63rd Academy Awards with seven Oscar wins. He even went of to defeat the acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese for the venerable honor.

While the feat alone was ready to establish Costner as one of the major contenders of Hollywood’s elite directors, his subsequent directorial ventures brought forward a rather sad reality. More than three decades after his Oscar success for directing Dances With Wolves, a retrospective reassessment provides a rather harsh truth about the multi-faceted star’s career.

The 70-year-old, who has been associated with at least 60 projects, has since then directed four films, including Horizon: An American Saga and its sequel. A careful study would suggest that while...

Kevin Costner Helped Launch A Near-Billion-Dollar Hollywood Movie Trend
Image
Nicholas Sparks writes the kind of books you're likely to find on your mom's nightstand. His romances have captivated (mostly women) readers around the world for nearly 30 years, with over 130 million copies sold according to his website. Many of his novels follow the same formula, but clearly, he's found a winning one: stories of star-crossed lovers, often set in picturesque coastal American small towns, where a profound and enduring bond is tested by a tragic twist. Few authors can claim that all of their books have reached #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Nicholas Sparks' stories didn't make the leap to the silver screen until 1999 with the adaptation of his second novel, "Message in a Bottle." Star Kevin Costner fits perfectly into Sparks' universe, portraying the all-American, rugged man — stoic and guarded, yet warm. We've seen Kevin Costner play similar roles in some of his best movies, including...

Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Briefly Worked With Kevin Costner On A Classic Sports Movie
Image
Phil Alden Robinson's 1989 sports drama "Field of Dreams" is Americana at its corniest. In many ways, literally; the main character, Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), bulldozes a large portion of his corn farm in order to build a brand-new baseball diamond. Ray did so at the behest of a ghostly voice that instructed him, "If you build it, he will come." Sure enough, when he builds the diamond, the ghost of "Shoeless Joe" Jackson (Ray Liotta) appears on it, still wearing his Boston Black Sox uniform, and converses with him.

Ghosts, time travel, and premonitions are a big part of "Field of Dreams," and it's implied that baseball itself is connected to divine powers that are eager to grant related wishes, calm hearts, allow for post-mortem redemption, and provide reconciliation between fathers and sons. Case in point: Ray and his wife Annie (Amy Madigan) have a dream about Fenway Park in Boston,...

Must-see Netflix titles every Star Wars fan will love (without watching Star Wars)
Image
We are almost to an unofficial holiday. Every May 4th is a goofy and fun one for fans of the Star Wars franchise.

But let's say, like every human being, you have seen all things Star Wars 50 times or many more times. You might want to see something some actors have been in, but not as part of your favorite sci-fi works. You're in luck because Netflix has options.

Sure, what your favorite streamer has regarding Harrison Ford projects is limited, but there are other people besides Han Solo. The four titles below will all be worth watching. Maybe start with the leading suggestion first, though.

Netflix titles every Star Wars fan will love without actually watching Star WarsThe Fall of the House of Usher (Mark Hamill)

Hamill has had a very successful career since he stopped doing Star Wars. Many might not know that because many of his roles...

The Weapons Trailer Teases What Might Be The Scariest Movie Of 2025
Image
When Zach Cregger's fiendishly twisty horror film "Barbarian" stunned Hollywood in 2022 by grossing $45.4 million against a $4.5 million budget, every studio in town was eager to make whatever movie next sprouted from the writer-director's imagination. This wasn't because studios were looking to duplicate the low-budget success of "Barbarian." No, this was all about getting into a hopefully long-term business with an exciting new voice in horror who's likely just barely scratched the surface of his potential.

Ultimately, New Line Cinema won a multi-studio bidding war for the rights to Cregger's "Weapons," the premise of which has been shrouded in secrecy for months. All we knew for a while was that the film centers on a bizarre incident in which 17 children in a small Pennsylvania town spontaneously flee their houses at 2:17 Am, sprinting off into the night and never returning.

And they never came back...

’Fantastic Four’s Julia Garner Is Terrified in First ‘Weapons’ Images
Image
Julia Garner and Josh Brolin are locked and loaded in Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive first look at Weapons. All eyes have been on the Warner Bros. feature since it was announced that funny guy turned horror filmmaker, Zach Cregger, was returning with another movie. Since then, the film has undergone some changes (specifically with Brolin stepping in to take over for Pedro Pascal), but the clock is counting down until its arrival on August 8. Today’s images serve as a follow-up from what we’ve previously seen in a short teaser that was released just one week ago. Since then, the images of children vanishing into the night as caught on home alarm systems have been the main thing that we conjure up when thinking of the film, but we’re officially getting a peek at the film’s leading stars in their latest roles.

Shocked — like she’s just...

Metacritic's Highest-Rated Sports Movie Features One Of Dennis Quaid's Earliest Roles

Throw a bunch of movie buffs together in a room and ask them to arrive at a consensus regarding the top 20 list for any genre, and voices will be raised before too long. In the end, if these people are grown-ups, they will find common ground on widely beloved classics and maybe throw a bone or two to an offbeat favorite. Throw a bunch of movie buffs who also happen to be passionate sports fans together and ask them to name the 20 greatest sports films of all time, and punches might just get thrown.

For most people, sports movies are supposed to be inspirational, stand-up-and-cheer entertainments. They're rigidly formulaic underdog stories in which lovable losers pull together to win the big game against seemingly unbeatable juggernauts. As a cinephile who lives and dies with my favorite sports teams, I fall for this formula all the time -- especially when the...

Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams (1989)
Ben Affleck shares funny stories from the set of Field of Dreams
Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams (1989)
Here’s a fun fact about Field of Dreams that “goes the distance”: Boston brothers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were extras in the Fenway Park scene. If you didn’t know that, it’s either because they’re hard to spot or John Mulaney left it out of his recap…Regardless, it’s a memory that Ben Affleck will never forget – and one that Matt Damon will remember wrong.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (via EW), Affleck said that one of his favorite moments from being on the set of Field of Dreams was seeing star/avid baseball fan Kevin Costner hit a homerun at Fenway. However, Damon remembered it a bit differently, with Affleck adding, “Twenty years later, I was looking through an interview of Matt. And then I see him in this interview say, ‘Yeah I took batting practice at Fenway Park, and I hit the ball off the Green Monster.

'It's Sweet of Him to Say That': Ben Affleck Isn't Buying Kevin Costner's Field of Dreams Claim
Image
Ben Affleck says that Field of Dreams star Kevin Costner was just "being kind" when he said he remembered him and Matt Damon on set. The two young actors were extras in the sports film's Fenway Park scene.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck responded to Costner talking about the impression he and Damon made while on set. "Kevin is being kind saying he remembers us because we were not memorable," Affleck said with a laugh, adding: "It's sweet of him to say that, but I’m pretty sure he remembers the actors with lines." Previously on Jimmy Kimmel, Costner recalled Affleck and Damon as being 'on fire' while working on Field of Dreams in the late 80s.

Affleck also shared a story of a time when Costner impressed him and Damon while they were filming. "I remember we thought we knew that actors were kind of fraudulent.

The 7 Best New Movies Streaming on Netflix Right Now
Image
Netflix‘s April film acquisitions include masterpieces from some of the most revered Hollywood directors of the past 50 years, including Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese and Michael Mann. Whether you are in the mood for Nolan’s best superhero film or Mann’s greatest crime thriller, Netflix has whatever its subscribers may be looking for in April. That is to say nothing, either, of the pair of timeless sports dramas that the streaming service also added to its platform this month.

Here are TheWrap’s picks for the seven best movies that have started streaming on Netflix in April.

“The Dark Knight” (Warner Bros. Pictures) “The Dark Knight” (2008)

Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” is still considered by many to be the peak of the superhero genre, and for good reason. Nolan’s 2008 sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins” is a propulsive, gripping crime thriller that doubles as a battle of wills...

Ben Affleck Doesn't Think Kevin Costner Remembers His 'Field of Dreams' Role
Image
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon might be recognized the world over, but long before they ever reached superstar status, they were just two guys in Cambridge, Massachusetts trying to get a break in the business. As such, they took any role they could, which included extra work in Kevin Costner's 1989 memorable sports drama, Field of Dreams. "Memorable" is an important word there, because while Costner has said on many occasions that he recalls Affleck and Damon sitting in the stands of Fenway Park as uncredited extras, The Accountant 2 stars says otherwise.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live this past Wednesday, Affleck and Damon's time on Field of Dreams came up, and how they got the job. Affleck noted that they were both "serious actors from a very young age," and kept in touch with a local casting director who would let them know when something was coming to town. They...

Ben Affleck Calls Out Kevin Costner’s 1989 Movie Flashback Facade
Image
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon started in the movie industry at a young age, and even so, they have already shown what they can offer. In fact, the power duo joined Kevin Costner’s 1989 sports drama movie Field of Dreams even though they were only extras. Well, they had to start somewhere, right?

While the Yellowstone actor claimed he fondly remembers them, Affleck is not convinced. He thinks that Costner was only being nice when he said this, but in reality, he does not really recall seeing them on the movie set.

Ben Affleck refuses to believe Kevin Costner truly remembers him

Ben Affleck still remembers the time he worked alongside Matt Damon as an extra in Kevin Costner’s Field of Dreams. They were only teenagers back then who appeared in the Fenway Park scene. In fact, this was eight years before they wrote and starred in the Academy Award-winning title Good Will Hunting,...

Ben Affleck Thinks Kevin Costner Was “Being Kind” Saying He Remembers Him and Matt Damon as ‘Field of Dreams’ Extras: “We Were Not Memorable”
Image
Ben Affleck remembers meeting Kevin Costner alongside Matt Damon when they were working as extras all too well.

Affleck and Damon got their start in the entertainment industry as film extras. One of their first big jobs as a duo was acting in the background of the sports drama Field of Dreams, which starred Costner. During a Wednesday appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck responded to the Yellowstone actor stating he recalled him and Damon while they were working on the 1989 film.

“Kevin is being kind saying he remembers us because we were not memorable,” he joked. “It’s sweet of him to say that, but I’m pretty sure he remembers the actors with lines.”

In May last year, the Oscar winner recalled Affleck and Damon’s “big enthusiasm” working on Field of Dreams. “They were on fire. I do remember them, absolutely,” he told Kimmel at the time.

As a Kevin Costner Fan, I Wish His Horror Movie Stayed Unreleased 41 Years Ago
Image
Let me spill the beans: I’m head over heels for Kevin Costner, a cinematic sorcerer who’s been my silver-screen crush since forever. His rugged charm, that twinkle in his eye, and his knack for stealing every scene make my heart do cartwheels. From Dances with Wolves to Field of Dreams, Costner’s films are like a warm hug for me—stirring, thrilling, and dripping with soul. That being said, he’s a chameleon, nailing every role with a finesse that’s rarer than hen’s teeth.

But even my idol tripped up in 1984 with Shadows Run Black, a horror-thriller so dismal it’s a thorn in my side. This film of his, pre-Untouchables fame, lurks at a measly 3.1 on IMDb. I wish this clunker had stayed in the vault, a forgotten misstep. As I like to say, “Even a star’s brightest glow can’t polish a tarnished turd.

Kurt Russell Vs. Kevin Costner: Who Was The Best Wyatt Earp?
Image
Many years ago, onlookers watched with bated breath as Wyatt Earp marched out to confront ... Wyatt Earp. It was the mid-'90s, and two rival films about the legendary Wild West lawman were vying for the cinemagoer's buck: First up, on Christmas Day 1993, was George P. Cosmatos's "Tombstone," followed six months later by Lawrence Kasdan's "Wyatt Earp." Twin movies were a regular phenomenon in the '90s: You had "Deep Impact" versus "Armageddon," "Dante's Peak" versus "Volcano," and even "Antz" versus "A Bug's Life." But the dueling Westerns had a lot more at stake, because there was a significant beef between the two productions.

Kevin Costner was set to star in "Tombstone" before falling out with screenwriter Kevin Jarre, moving on to develop his own epic biopic of the frontier marshal with Lawrence Kasdan. Rather than let things lie, however, rumors circulated that Costner had tried using his...

‘Top Gear’ Presenter Freddie Flintoff “Was Unable To Leave Home For Eight Months Following Filming Accident”
Image
UK TV presenter Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff has revealed that, following his car crash while filming car show Top Gear, he didn’t leave home for eight months as he struggled to come to terms with his injuries.

Flintoff, previously an England cricketing star, was left with severe facial injuries following a crash in 2022, while filming Top Gear for the BBC. He has now made a DisneyPlus documentary documenting the accident and its aftermath.

The Sun newspaper reports that Flintoff spoke to TV host Jonathan Ross for his ITV chat show, to be aired this weekend in the UK, in which he detailed the extent of his anxiety leaving his house. Flintoff said:

“The only times I was leaving the house was for medical appointments and surgeries.

“I was struggling with crippling anxiety. I had to have about five or six goes at leaving the room — had to have a chat with myself in the mirror.

Josh O’Connor Sundance Drama ‘Rebuilding’ Lands at Bleecker Street
Image
“Rebuilding,” a drama starring Josh O’Connor as a cowboy who loses his ranch to wildfires, has sold U.S. rights to Bleecker Street. The film premiered at Sundance and will debut in theaters later this year.

Max Walker-Silverman directed “Rebuilding,” which follows Dusty, a rancher who is forced into a Fema camp and unexpectedly reconnects with his estranged daughter and ex-wife while reconstructing his life alongside fellow survivors. Lily Latorre (“Run Rabbit Run”), Meghann Fahy (“The White Lotus”), Kali Reis (“True Detective”) and Amy Madigan (“Field of Dreams”) round out the cast.

Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised the performance of O’Connor, a 34-year-old British actor best known for “The Crown” and “Challengers.” In his review, Gleiberman wrote, “He’s an authentic presence, scraggly and taciturn in a soulful way, and he communicates the quiet anguish at the heart of Dusty, a character who has lost everything.

Kevin Costner in Draft Day (2014)
‘Draft Day’ Was An Easy Pick For Football Fan Kevin Costner
Kevin Costner in Draft Day (2014)
Image Source: Amazon With the 2025 NFL Draft only A few weeks away and the pre-draft hype machine operating at maximum capacity, perhaps that’s why the 2014 film Draft Day has suddenly become one of the top-streaming movies on Netflix. Kevin Costner starred as the general manager of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns franchise who was struggling with internal and external pressure as he tried to determine the team’s draft picks. The film was made with the league’s full cooperation, including a role for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, playing himself, so the film conveys a behind-the-scenes authenticity that fans have grown to appreciate. As for Costner, who’d already made several baseball-themed movies, including Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, starring in a football-oriented film felt completely natural, since he’s always been a big fan of the game. Netflix is adding 38 movies and series this week
Image
You read that right, dear viewer. Netflix is adding no less than 38 movies and shows to their rotation this week. And if you think I'm giving a detailed synopsis of every new arrival, well... in the immortal words of Ms. Kimberly Wilkins, "Ain't nobody got time for that."

Holy Hannah. After last week, I'm used to a lighter workload. Granted, most of these properties aren't new, just new to Netflix. There are certainly a lot of classic films in the group, so I'll hit the highlights. Or at least a dozen of them. Maybe even a baker's dozen, lucky you.

Netflix closes out March with three original titles, then bombards us with 27 features on April Fool's Day. Unless they're doing some weird meta-promotion, and not releasing anything on April 1st. Speaking of April Fool's - I've included one fake title in the list. Hopefully, you'll be able to discover it without too much trouble.

How Much Does It Cost To Stay At The Real-Life Yellowstone Dutton Ranch?

There are some movies and television shows that are so transporting that it's not enough for fans to sift through the minutiae of these universes so as to know everything possible about the characters and the worlds they inhabit. At a certain point, fans want to inhabit these worlds, too.

Sometimes it's possible! Fans of Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy can book a flight to New Zealand and visit the Hobbiton movie set. The baseball field from "Field of Dreams" still exists in Dyersville, Iowa, and is open to tourists. And if you've got it like that, you can look into renting a unit in the Dakota Apartments (where Rosemary Woodhouse gave birth to the son of Satan).

There are all kinds of opportunities out there for movie and television buffs to experience first-hand the magic of their favorite entertainments. In some cases, however, that experience...

Ben Affleck Reveals His Good Friendship With Matt Damon Is All He Needs
Image
Ben Affleck has had a long career in Hollywood, but you won’t see him surrounded by hundreds of friends as he is more interested in keeping a small, tight-knit circle of friends for a reason. While appearing at SXSW to promote The Accountant 2, Affleck reflected on the close relationship he shares with frequent collaborator Matt Damon, who turned up to add his support to the movie’s premiere, and how he really feels that quality of friends is more important than quantity.

There are many stars in Hollywood who often frequent big lavish parties, or are always seen with a whole posse of followers wherever they go. Affleck is not one of them. He doesn’t really care either. Admitting that one of his only friends in his life is Damon, Affleck told Business Insider:

“I’m really lucky to have had a friend in Matt. It's a beautiful thing.

Burt Lancaster's 61-Year-Old WWII Movie Is Based on a Real-Life Heist
Image
Quick LinksBurt Lancaster Was a Hollywood LegendThe Train Was a Severely Underrated MovieThe Train Was Based on a Real HeistThe Train Remains a Critical Success

World War II movies have been a prominent fixture in Hollywood since the war began. Even as soldiers were charging onto the battlefield to face off against Imperial Japanese soldiers and the Nazis, the industry was producing more theatrical releases. Movies like The Great Dictator (1940), Minesweeper (1943), and Hitler – Beast of Berlin (1939) forced audiences to reckon with the reality of war. Even when World War II ended violently, Hollywood never lost its fascination with the era. It continued to produce more releases with every passing year.

Throughout the 20th century, World War II movies were an essential staple. Every decade had a massive World War II movie released, culminating in Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Schindler's List (1993). Before color films conquered the big screen, however, black-and-white epics...

Netflix brings one of the most important films ever to your home
Image
Netflix announced 12 new titles for the first of the month and then added a dozen more to the mix. The stealth release slate was at least as good as the previously announced group. Happily, it included one of my favorite films ever. If you haven't seen it yet, this is your chance to add it to your list.

I saw this movie at the theater when it came out in 1989. It was astonishing, amazing, and absolutely brilliant. Sounds like an especially arrogant LLC, doesn't it? Well, it truly was and still is all of those things. From the opening frame to the last, I was riveted, as was the entire audience. As soon as it was available on DVD, I had my own copy. That was followed by the Blu-ray, then the digital version. And lucky you, you get to watch it now on Netflix.

When I say this is...

The Musical Comedy Flop That Pitted Sylvester Stallone Against Dolly Parton
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In Bob Clark's 1984 film "Rhinestone," Dolly Parton plays a country singer named Jake who is utterly miserable singing at a sleazy New York nightclub called the Rhinestone. In a fit of pique -- perhaps after reading a copy of "Pygmalion" -- Jake posits that she can grab any random schnook off the street and transform them into a celebrated country music star within two weeks. The club owner, Freddie (Ron Leibman) takes that bet, saying that if Jake is successful, she'll be released from her long-term contract. If she loses, however, she'll be stuck at the Rhinestone for another five years.

Unfortunately for Jake, the random schnook she grabs is the mookish Italian cab driver Nick Martinelli, played by Sylvester Stallone. As anyone who has seen Stallone act could tell you, he is not known for his musical acumen,...

BBC Documentaries Boss: “Audiences Trust The Man In The Street More Than They Trust Institutions” – Mip London
Image
“Audiences trust the man in the street more than they trust institutions.”

That was the societal read delivered today at Mip London by Clare Sillery, who runs documentary commissioning for the BBC, greenlighting hundreds of hours of factual shows per year.

Sillery made the declaration as she spoke about how the BBC no longer wants “biographies,” “summaries” or “explainers” when it comes to the documentaries it commissions.

“In a digital-first world they are not so valuable because who is the voice telling you the story?,” said Sillery at the inaugural Mip London. “Audiences trust the man in the street more than they trust institutions and so those kinds of testimony-led films made by filmmakers are extremely valuable in this climate.”

Sillery’s exemplar was Once Upon a Time In Northern Ireland, the double-bafta-winning James Bluemel-made doc about The Troubles which featured testimony from dozens of Irish people who lived through those decades.

What Happened To The Cast Of The 1994 Wyatt Earp Movie?
Image
"Tombstone," from 1993, is the Wyatt Earp movie most people remember from the '90s, but it's hardly the only star-studded spectacle about the legendary marshal. A year later, "Wyatt Earp" came out, reuniting actor Kevin Costner with filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan, the director who first made him a charismatic cowboy in 1985's "Silverado." A love of the old west clearly stuck with Costner, who made his directorial debut with "Dances With Wolves," an epic about a Union Army Lieutenant (Costner) who goes native. If you haven't seen it, you've probably at least heard the plot of "Avatar" compared (unfavorably) to it. It won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and another for Costner as Best Director.

Covering more of Earp's life than just the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, "Wyatt Earp" came loaded with actors both familiar and new, as one would expect of an old Hollywood epic biopic. It...

Every Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Movie, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Over the years, Hollywood has delivered an abundance of memorable on-screen partnerships -- Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, among many others. Over 30 years after their first collaboration, it's probably safe to add Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to the list.

Together, the dynamic duo have produced memorable entertainment aplenty, putting their remarkable chemistry to good use in everything from Kevin Smith's "Dogma" to Affleck's "Air." These guys have teamed up on nearly a dozen projects, even for a brief cameo or minor supporting role. Recently, their partnership has intensified with the aforementioned "Air" and Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel," it's a shame they haven't found more films to work on together over the years, because these boys are wicked smaht.

To celebrate this long-running partnership, we decided...

10 Great Western Movies You Totally Forgot About
Image
The western genre has been a staple of American cinema since almost it's inception, with themes of rugged individualism, the true moral ambiguity of the world, and the vast, untamed frontier where anything can happen for decades. Many iconic films from the genre—The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, High Noon, Stagecoach—remain part of the collective film consciousness. However, countless other westerns, though critically acclaimed or innovative in their own right, have slipped from the spotlight over the generations. These gems, whether due to being overshadowed by their more famous counterparts or simply relegated to obscurity by time, still offer the very best in Western stories, gripping performances, and distinct takes on the mythology of the American Frontier.

The decline in the popularity of traditional westerns in the late 20th century, compounded by the rise of new genres and filmmaking styles, has led to many remarkable films in...

‘Green and Gold’ Review: Aggressively Uplifting Sentimental Drama About a Farmer Desperate to Save His Land
Image
Craig T. Nelson is an extremely fine and too often underappreciated actor, and it’s difficult not to be at least mildly impressed by his absolutely fearless lead performance in “Green and Gold.” In director Anders Lindwall’s ponderous and predictable drama, he plays Buck, a debt-ridden Wisconsin dairy farmer who’s way too proud and tradition-bound to change his ways, and ultimately so desperate that he literally agrees to bet the farm in order to save it. To put it bluntly, Nelson gives this clichéd indie a lot more than it ever gives him.

Buck is not always an easy man to like, and it’s obvious that neither Nelson nor Lindwall wants to make him any more likable than he has to be. Lean and leathery, with a stoic grimace as his facial expression of choice, Buck is a salt-of-the-earth guy who loves Margaret (Annabel Armour), his supportive...

Netflix Reveals First Look at Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Reunion in 'Rip' Thriller
Image
It’s been a couple of years since Oscar-winners Ben Affleck and Matt Damon shared the screen together in 2023's Air, but all that is about to change this year when the duo reunite once more for the Netflix thriller Rip, which is helmed by director Joe Carnahan. Based on actual events, the true-crime flick promises to be an action-packed affair that "takes a look at the things people will do for money."

Affleck was on hand today at the 2025 Next on Netflix Special Presentation held in Los Angeles (via People) to give viewers a sneak peek at Rip, which also stars Teyana Taylor (Coming 2 America) and Sasha Calle (The Flash). "It's the seventh movie that Matt Damon and my company, Artists Equity, has made, and it really is in a lot of ways the most important for us," he told a crowd of onlookers, adding:

Tim McGraw to Play First-Ever Concert at the Field of Dreams Movie Site
Image
This summer, Tim McGraw will go the distance by performing the first-ever concert at the iconic baseball diamond in a cornfield where Kevin Costner’s 1989 classic Field of Dreams was filmed. The one-of-a-kind live experience is set to take place August 30th in Dyersville, Iowa.

As a spoiler-y refresher (or if you’ve never seen the movie), Field of Dreams centers on Costner’s Ray Kinsella turning his farm into a baseball diamond after being compelled by a mysterious voice. The studio built an actual diamond in an actual cornfield for the movie, and the site has since played home to numerous events and baseball games over the years — even hosting seasonal games with The Ghost Players and two special MLB games.

Get Tim McGraw Tickets Here

However, McGraw’s performance, created in partnership between StubHub and U.S. Concert Agency, will be the first major concert at the location.
