A trip down Hollywood memory lane will always have us feeling all the feels, especially if it involves two of the biggest names the industry has had to offer – Tom Cruise and Robin Williams. Say whatever you may, you cannot deny that these actors redefined what it meant to be a star. While Robin Williams is no longer among us, because the world is just unfair that way, we cannot help but reminisce about the good times when he gave us performances like that in Dead Poets Society.
Recently, a video has been making the rounds on the Internet where we can see Tom Cruise crashing Robin Williams’ moment. What follows is a heartwarming exchange between the two, a wholesome reminder that Tinseltown shines brighter when there is genuine camaraderie in the mix.

Robin Williams is an irreplaceable actor who we lost too soon. In the many stories of casting choices slipping away and performances that never made it to the screen, the one involving Williams’ potential role in Detective Pikachu hurts the most.
Williams will always be a beloved icon whose boundless energy and heart made him people’s first choice. So, this wasn’t just a missed opportunity but a testament to how deep his legacy runs.
Robin Williams as Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting | Miramax Films Robin Williams as Professor Oak in Detective Pikachu
As per sources, Nintendo had only one actor in mind to play an important role in Detective Pikachu. The character in question was Professor Oak, who doesn’t appear in the movie at all because the company had one non-negotiable condition, i.e., Robin Williams had to play him (via TV Tropes).

It's considered something of a footnote now, but Robin Williams' last TV credit before his death was for "The Crazy Ones," a David E. Kelley-created single-camera sitcom that aired from September 2013 to April 2014. "The Crazy Ones" was notable in that it was Williams' first time headlining a TV series since the broadcast of "Mork and Mindy" (with Pam Dawber) over three decades earlier. Williams had spent the bulk of his career working in standup or starring in movies, often gaining a great deal of acclaim for his performances. He was nominated for Oscars for "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Dead Poets Society," and "The Fisher King" before finally winning for his very generous turn in "Good Will Hunting." His comedy albums also won him multiple Grammys, while his standup specials netted him two Emmys.
Williams would happily have made a joke about how he is not an Egot, but a mere Ego.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) and written by Academy Award nominee Jeff Pope (Philomena), the Steve Coogan-starring dramedy The Penguin Lessons has the caliber of talent behind and in front of the camera to be a great film. It definitely doesn’t reach the level of greatness, but if you are willing to look past the movie’s flaws and enjoy it as a lighthearted, not-too-meaningful picture, it’s hard not to be won over by its charms.
The Penguin Lessons Review
Based on Tom Michell’s memoir, The Penguin Lessons tells the story of an English schoolteacher at a boarding school in Argentina whose life is changed after he adopts a penguin. Despite being based on a true story, the film does feel a bit comfortable in its tropes; however, it does break its formula in just enough ways that it feels worth your time as a crowd-pleaser.

It’s hard to overstate what a massive cultural sensation Robin Williamswas in the 1990s, as he had transcended all expectations to become one of the industry’s most reliable actors. Despite getting his start on the sitcom Mork & Mindy and playing sold-out comedy shows around the nation, Williams would prove himself as an actor by starring in family-friendly hits, comedy sensations, and Oscar-nominated dramedies. Williams was the type of star who could be relied upon to take risks, even when the results were as disastrous as Flubber or Jack. Williams lent his talents to the groundbreaking fantasy adventure film Jumanji, a film that may have been too terrifying for children had it not been for his unique comedic charm.

Netflix announced 12 new titles for the first of the month and then added a dozen more to the mix. The stealth release slate was at least as good as the previously announced group. Happily, it included one of my favorite films ever. If you haven't seen it yet, this is your chance to add it to your list.
I saw this movie at the theater when it came out in 1989. It was astonishing, amazing, and absolutely brilliant. Sounds like an especially arrogant LLC, doesn't it? Well, it truly was and still is all of those things. From the opening frame to the last, I was riveted, as was the entire audience. As soon as it was available on DVD, I had my own copy. That was followed by the Blu-ray, then the digital version. And lucky you, you get to watch it now on Netflix.

Ethan Hawke believes the prioritisation of profit is leading to “generic art”.The 54-year-old actor has voiced his concerns about the current landscape in Hollywood, accusing movie studios of prioritising money-making over art and culture.Speaking at the Berlin Film Festival, Ethan explained: “Audiences have to care. They don’t sell. You guys, the community, has to make it important. "For offensive art to have a place in our conversation, it has to be cared about. And when we prioritise money at all costs, what we get is generic art that appeals to the most amount of people and we’re told it’s the best.”Ethan has called on film fans to make their feelings known to movie studios. The veteran actor observed that cinemagoers need to “demand” change from studios, if that’s what they want.He explained: “If you love offensive art and you want it, demand it.

Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of entertainment. He's created masterpieces such as Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Schindler's List, Catch Me If You Can, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Saving Private Ryan and many more. His talents are endless, and his relatable and enjoyable tales have spanned generations of audiences, even today. However, not every filmmaker is perfect. A notable contender for Spielberg's most controversial or critically panned film, despite the magnificent storytelling and artistry the movie offers to audiences, is his adaptation of the book Peter Pan and Wendy with Hook.
Hook starred the talented Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, and Julia Roberts in a movie that would see the boy from Neverland all grown up, and long forgetting about the fantastical world. However, he returns after his children are kidnapped by the villainous Captain Hook, leading to a grand adventure of self-discovery and familial love.

"Everything begins and ends at exactly the right time and place." Janus Films has unveiled a new official trailer for the new 4K restoration & re-release of Picnic at Hanging Rock, an acclaimed Australian film from 1975. It was the third feature film at the time from director Peter Weir - way before he would go on to make The Last Wave, Gallipoli, The Mosquito Coast, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, Master and Commander, The Way Back and other films. It was a part of the Australian New Wave cinema movement at the time. Starring Rachel Roberts, Dominic Guard, Helen Morse, Vivean Gray, and Jacki Weaver. The plot involves the disappearance of several schoolgirls and their teacher during a picnic at Hanging Rock, Victoria on Valentine's Day in 1900, and the subsequent effect on the local community. Roger Ebert was also a big fan of this, calling it "a film of haunting...

It's time to pay homage to a masterpiece that put film legend Peter Weir on the map and in the hearts of cinephiles everywhere. The acclaimed Australian director's 1975 hit film Picnic at Hanging Rock has been restored in stunning 4K, shown off in a new trailer for the re-release of the film. Without the success of the surreal 70s film, audiences wouldn't have the more mainstream cinematic masterpieces from the brilliant mind of Weir, like The Truman Show, Dead Poets Society, Master, and Commander: The Far Side of The World, so it's only right that the film be handled with the utmost respect and care.

Australian master filmmaker Peter Weir might be retired, sadly, but he amazing and eclectic work always lives on. Weir has so many great works under his belt, the sea-faring “Master & Commander,” the epic “Gallipoli,” thrillers like “The Mosquito Coast” and “Witness” with Harrison Ford and then perhaps more mainstream works like “The Truman Show” and “Dead Poets Society.” But his earlier pre-Hollywood work is arguably still his best, often very mysterious, enigmatic, eerie and mesmerizing.

The Golden Globes, alongside the Academy Awards, have become one of Hollywood’s most significant award shows. For 80 years, it has spotlighted blockbuster hits and lesser-known dramas alike. Winning a Golden Globe is a tremendous honor, but only one film can claim Best Motion Picture – Drama.
"Snub" is a strong term; often, the award comes down to a coin flip between two exceptional films. In some cases, movies gain greater appreciation as time passes. Either way, it’s a mistake to assume that a film-winning Best Motion Picture – Drama is inherently better than the other nominees.

While they are primarily known for their comedy work, a primarily comedic movie actor can turn out an incredible performance in darker, heavier fare. In fact, some of the greatest movie performances are by actors who audiences usually associate with being funny, seemingly unaware of their true potential as performers. Many might not realize it, but comedic performers can be some of the best actors of all time, especially when they take on dramatic characters.

He has been nominated for an Oscar, a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and two Tony Awards, for his work, so he is unlikely to have any regrets. Dead Poets Society tackles the struggles of students from an all-boys school dealing with the pressure from society by following their passion, and there are several Dead Poets Society quotes elevating the movie. 1989's Dead Poets Society stars Robin Williams as an English teacher who spreads the love of poetry to his class, many of whom are drowning under their parents' expectations. The movie is a strong drama, masterfully written and directed, and it earned Williams an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, a change of pace for the man who mostly performed as a comedic actor over his career.
The movie also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and Best Director (for Peter Weir), but it was the script by Tom Schulman that stood tall, with the screenwriter taking home an Oscar himself for Best Original Screenplay. Several inspirational lines can be found in the film that will surely ignite the writer in anyone.

Robin Williams had a long-established Hollywood career, and became known for a variety of movies, including Dead Poets Society and Patch Adams. Some of his most celebrated roles are from comedies (The Birdcage and Mrs. Doubtfire), and his knack for humor, along with a charismatic personality, made him beloved by many. Other films, whether blockbusters and/or critical hits, have included The Fisher King, Jumanji, Night at the Museum, and Disney’s Aladdin, where Williams famously portrayed Genie, a character now immortalized in popular culture.
Williams starred in many more projects, some underperforming, including Father’s Day and Death to Smoochy, the latter only generating $8 million. Still, he is often considered among the best parts of any movie he was in, and Williams' film legacy remains strong as audiences continue to enjoy his work across all genres. When it comes to science fiction, for example, he appeared in Flubber, A.

One of the greatest movie stars of all time, Harrison Ford has a presence on screen like no other actor of his generation, representing the kind of classic leading man that is becoming rarer and rarer in Hollywood blockbusters of the 21st Century. With his expressive face, iconic voice, and easy charisma, he is able to masterfully slip between humor and drama in movies like Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Fugitive, and Air Force One. The Academy Awards are widely accepted as the most important and influential awards body in the film industry, marking some of the most critically and commercially successful films of the year and celebrating the art of cinema. Though the nominees and winners are selected by a wide panel of voters from across the industry, sometimes it is easy to look back and see the flaws in the Academy's decisions.
Often, movies that win Best Picture at the Oscars do not hold up nearly as well as some of their fellow nominees. Over the years, audience and critical opinions have shifted, and many believe that different films should have won the Academy Awards' top prize.

The late Robin Williams is still loved due to the impact he had with his signature comedy. The actor starred in films like Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, and Good Morning Vietnam, and made himself endearing to viewers. He also voiced the Genie in the animated Aladdin film and became a pop culture staple.
One of his most beloved performances is that of the titular role in Mrs. Doubtfire. For playing a divorced father, who dresses up as a nanny to be near his children, Williams received the Golden Globe for Best Actor. To get the voice and look of Mrs. Doubtfire right, he reportedly went into an adult store to test it out on the general public.

Teenage dramas have existed for as long as teens have been drumming up drama in schools and colleges. In the ’60s, there were Because They’re Young and Where the Boys Are. The ‘70s had American Graffiti, Grease, and Saturday Night Fever. The genre exploded in the ‘80s with movies like Dead Poets Society, and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. And the ‘90s gave us The Basketball Diaries, Rushmore, 10 Things I Hate About You, and American Pie. But I think the movie that paved the way for stuff like Gossip Girl, Young Royals, 13 Reasons Why, Elite, Class, Euphoria, Maxton Hall, Hierarchy, and Untamed Royals was the cult classic, Cruel Intentions. It had adult actors playing high schoolers. It was filled to the brim with the risque stuff. And there was a lot of backstabbing and drugs involved. Since this particular subgenre of teen dramas is all the rage now,...

In a video interview with People, John Krasinski recalled his journey to discovering his love for acting. He was already drawn to artistic pursuits, such as films and music, but one movie recommendation from his college days gave him an idea of what he wanted to pursue.

Time and again, celebrities who began their careers as child stars have opened up about the challenges of navigating fame and the pressures of Hollywood from a young age. Eddie Murphy, for example, was only 19 when he joined Saturday Night Live in 1980.

Fans of Robin Williams will be able to sit down and enjoy two of his much-loved movies from the 1990s thanks to Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji joining the Tubi library. The comedy movies are among the most beloved of Williams career, and now another generation can discover his genius for themselves without having to spend a dime.
In 1993, Williams gave one of his greatest comedy performances in Mrs. Doubtfire, playing divorcee Daniel, who disguises himself as a nanny in order to be able to see his children. While there are those who will say the movie is dated, it is hard to see the film as anything other than a hilarious, and often poignant, story about the lengths a parent will go to in order to be close to their children. In contrast, 1995s Jumanji is a rollicking adventure comedy in which Williams plays Alan Parrish, a man who has...

Individuals so well-recognized for their talents and charisma have often privately suffered at the merciless hands of Parkinson’s. A progressive neurodegenerative disorder, it has affected millions worldwide. The disease is characterized by tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with movement, which worsens over time.

Although more than 10 million people worldwide currently live with Pd, the optics and the understanding of the disease remain largely misunderstood. Many people, however, only associate Parkinson’s with famous figures like Muhammad Ali or the recent diagnosis of Back to the Future’s Michael J. Fox.

Everybody knows Robin Williams was an amazing actor, but there was also a really sensitive side to him that only a handful of people got to see — though it’s so admirable, it’s hard to imagine anyone not knowing. During the filming of one of his most famous movies, Sally Field was going through a really tough time, and Williams didn’t hesitate to step in and help her out.

The actor was a master of improvisation and impressions, and an incredible comedian. But what truly stood out about him was his humanitarian spirit. He always put others first, and that’s something people still admire about him today.

Julia Roberts is one of the most legendary icons in Hollywood. The actress is best known for her breakthrough role as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman. The romantic comedy catapulted her to superstardom. She ruled the ‘90s and early 2000s becoming one of the highest-paid actresses.
While she finally received her Oscar for Best Actress for Steven Soderbergh’s Erin Brockovich, she reportedly had her biggest payday for the 2003 film Mona Lisa Smile. The period drama saw her in an ensemble cast with then-rising stars Kirsten Dunst, Julia Styles, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Roberts reportedly earned $25 million for her role.

“Carpe Diem! Seize the day, boys! Make your lives extraordinary”, Robin Williams passionately declared in Dead Poets Society (1989). This sentiment perfectly captures the essence of embracing opportunities and resonates deeply with the spirit of another of his beloved films, Mrs. Doubtfire.
Released in 1993, this delightful film, helmed by Chris Columbus, continues to tickle our funny bones and warm our hearts with its blend of humor and poignant moments.

Mrs. Doubtfire, overflowing with shenanigans and sprinkled with Williams’ comedic brilliance, takes us on a merry ride through the ingenious escapades of Daniel Hillard or, should we say, Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire. But, here’s a twist—did you know that this film nearly wore heavier hearts, with a scene left on the cutting room floor for fear they’d turn our chuckles into sniffles?

Ethan Hawke and Sterlin Harjo’s FX drama pilot has been ordered to series at FX, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.
The pilot was originally commissioned in February under the title “The Sensitive Kind” with Hawke in the lead role. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the fact it is described as a “Tulsa noir about a guy (Hawke) who knows too much.”
FX declined to comment.
The pilot was filmed in Oklahoma back in April and May. Keith David, Siena East, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Scott Shepherd, Tracy Letts, Kyle Maclachlan, and Macon Blair all starred opposite Hawke in the pilot, with additional cast including Killer Mike, Kaniehtiio Horne, Cody Lightning, Michael Hitchcock, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Ethan Hawke’s presidential endorsement couldn’t be more direct. “Kamala Harris is driving the bus I want to get on”.

It doesn’t drop you off exactly at your house, but it gets you close. So, you take the train, or the bus, and it brings you near home.’ In my mind, there’s no question: I want to be on the bus that Kamala is driving.”

Few actors are as beloved as the late great Robin Williams, stemming from having had such a profoundly impactful and notably diverse career. Being one of the greatest comedic performers of the late 20th century, he starred in films that a generation of children grew up with, and yet also took on roles that targeted a somewhat older audience. The impressive thing is that, even in these more thoughtful and complex roles, he still maintained the fun-loving spirit he was known for, whether it be in a film like Dead Poets Society or the film in which arguably his best role came, Good Will Hunting.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has a lousy track record when it comes to getting its awards to the most deserving nominees. There are myriad examples of injustices, and, when it comes to Best Picture, a history of settling on a movie that most people at least really like, even if few outright love it. In recent years, we've had the perfectly fine "Spotlight," "Argo," Nomadland," and "Coda" take home the top prize. They weren't the best movies of their respective years, not even close, but they were proficiently directed movies buoyed by excellent performances and accomplished (if somewhat formulaic) screenplays.
The Academy has had a decent five year Best Picture run, but in 2018 there was a galling regression to the bad ol' days when white Hollywood phonies made bogus can't-we-all-just-can't-get-along bromides congratulating themselves for viewing people of different colors and ethnicities as actual human beings. Boarding schools, tweed jackets, Latin classes, black coffee these are just some of the things that illustrate and describe dark academia in movies. The aesthetic became a popular trend among young adults who are genuinely keen on broadening their perspectives on just about everything under the sun, particularly the art of literature. Dark academia movies embrace an interest in learning - or sometimes, simply use the aesthetic to appear to embrace that interest in learning.
Dark academia is a type of aesthetic that romanticizes the yearning for knowledge, especially in literature and classical studies. It could be expressed through fashion, photography, writing, and films. Dark academia movies are often set in Ivy League or prestigious universities and could involve a case of murder or simply ones pursuit of self. With the very popular subgenre of drama films holding such a respected spot in film history, there are plenty of movies...

Now halfway through the lineup, enthusiasm for the competition titles at the Venice Film Festival has only increased, with La Biennale all stars like Brady Corbet and Pedro Almodóvar earning what keeps being reported as record-breakingly long standing ovations.
To be fair, IndieWire was at both the premiere of “The Brutalist” the previous day, where there was even an exuberant round of applause during the intermission for the 215-minute film, and at the first public screening of “The Room Next Door,” where fans stood so long embracing the Spanish auteur’s English language feature debut that he stayed at the foot of the Sala Grande theater stairs to sign some autographs.
In terms of which film is most contention for the Golden Lion, “The Brutalist” likely still has the edge for how it aligns with the perceived criteria this year’s competition jury is bringing. Corbet’s film is more ambitious,...

The number of Hollywood feuds is practically unfathomable, and it's not always easy to keep up with the latest beef. Though problems often arise between co-stars when the cameras turn off, disagreements have been known to happen between directors and actors. The tabloids had a field day with Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland during their notorious relationship, a distraction that caused a lot of tension on Steven Spielberg's Hook set in 1991. Spielberg accused Roberts of poor behavior on set, but it's almost hard to imagine when looking back at both of their careers because neither of them seems to have endured any further instances of that nature since.
These types of feuds are notorious, however, with one of the most well-known being the heated tensions that flared between Kramer vs. Kramer costars Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. Hoffman a noted Method actor verbally and physically harassed Streep, later confessing...

House is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall so what better time to check in on how old the cast of the Fox hit was then and now!
Premiering on Nov. 16, 2004, House centered around Gregory House, an absolute medical genius with a Sherlock Holmes ability to unravel medical mysteries that baffled other doctors. However, thanks to pain from a blood clot in his leg that had him relying on a cane, House was also an arrogant, selfish, cynical jerk insulting everyone around him.
The show became one of Fox's biggest hits of the decade, running eight seasons with Laurie earning two Golden Globes and several Emmy nominations. It also boosted many of its cast to future stardom. So how old were the actors then and now?

Many film enthusiasts consider Dead Poets Society as one of the most cherished movies of the late actor Robin Williams. In the film, Williams’ character English teacher John Keating is a true outlier in the strict setting of the elite boarding school. Playing one of the students in the film is a young Ethan Hawke in his breakthrough performance. However, Hawke and Williams did not get along greatly.

Gen X are a funny lot. Generally acknowledged to be made up of folks born between 1965 and 1980. This means Gen Xers were teenagers between the ’80s and the late ’90s. Crucially this also means it’s a generation that grew up without any meaningful internet and no mobile phones, who were used to relying on cinema trips to watch trailers, Blockbuster Video for our weekend viewing and highlighting the TV guide at Christmas.
Streaming services, of course, did not exist so movies we watched at the cinema, recorded off the telly and even potentially owned on VHS (if you were the Queen) became very precious in a way that something you caught on Netflix while you were looking at your phone are not. Every generation has movies that are iconic to them – here’s to the ones that shaped today’s 40-somethings+.
