Premiered in East-Berlin on 9 November 1989. When the news broke that the border between East and West had been opened, the film was stopped and the audience was informed about the event taking place outside the cinema. The vast majority of the audience demanded to see the rest of the film before joining the masses outside.
The first East German film on homosexuality, it was shot on location in several gay bars and cruising areas in East Berlin.
East Germany had decriminalized the homosexual acts in 1968 with West Germany following in 1969. Despite the decriminalization, the homosexual East Germans were often harassed and stymied, mostly due to their supposedly "free-thinking", hedonistic, deviant, and degenerate attitude and inability to procreate (an important asset in communist countries). East Berlin was considered an oasis for the homosexual East Germans.
