Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis in The Accused (1988)

Goofs

The Accused

Edit

Continuity

When Kathryn Murphy visits Sarah Tobias in Sarah's mobile home shortly after Sarah's hospitalization, the gash on the bridge of Sarah's nose has suddenly healed and completely disappeared.
When Sarah is going through the rape exam, and she is first shown with her face, she does not have abrasions or bruising on her lip or chin. Then when she's laying down for the rest of the exam she has bruising, an abrasion on her lip, and chin.
When Sarah, after the rape, goes back to The Mill, her red car is first shown dry and shiny and without a rear license plate. A few seconds later, in a closeup shot, the same car is wet from rain drops and with the license plate 'SXY SADI' on the back.
When a man is playing the pinball machine in the bar, his score reads 196,100, but a few seconds later, after a reaction shot of Kathryn, the score is only 14,050.
Kelly McGillis's character is credited as "Kathryn Murphy", but after Sarah walks out of her office and the door is shut, a sign on the office door shows the name "Katheryn Murphy".

Factual errors

At the end of the trial, the prosecuting counsel gives her summation after that of the defense counsel. However, in US courts, the defense goes after the prosecution.

Revealing mistakes

In both scenes when characters are playing the pinball machine, the sounds of the ball rolling around, scoring points and making the usual pinball machine noises can be heard, but the score on the machine never changes.
When Bernie Coulson visits Steve Antin in prison they talk through telephones with a glass barrier between them. Yet, the whole conversation is heard through the telephone whether the scene is shot from the side of the speaker or not.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

At the beginning, when Sarah is running from The Mill, the third car that passes by- a red sedan- is sounding the horn while the driver has both hands on top of the steering wheel.

Errors in geography

Just before Sarah knocks on Kathryn's car window to apologize, a sign in the street near a man playing the saxophone can be seen that says 'Media Centre', revealing that this scene was shot in Canada and not Washington state.
