Leslie Cheung and Joey Wang in A Chinese Ghost Story (1987)

Trivia

A Chinese Ghost Story

Edit
During the screen test, the casting manager thought Joey Wong had an on screen charm and sexiness, but her mannerism within the film's periodic sense didn't seem to match up quite well with the attitude. Tsui asked her to visit the Peking Opera in order to get the sense of the idea of periodic piece, as well getting used to it with the costume.
Leslie Cheung originally declined the role for the film since he didn't really had a good experience shooting a periodic piece film before. After Hark Tsui and art director Kenneth Yee convinced him that it is actually a modern drama in the periodic piece, Leslie agreed to do the film.
Included among the "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die", edited by Steven Schneider.
Joey Wang didn't speak much Cantonese at the time, so she mostly communicated with the fellow co-star Wu Ma, since he could speak both Cantonese and Taiwanese dialect.
Joey Wong said the huge success of this film ended up typecasting her for years. She could only get roles playing a "tormented ghost who is eternally seeking true love and reincarnation," similar to what she played in this film.
