Stephen King isn’t just an author by this point: He’s an institution, a legacy of classic horror stories that capture our imaginations, fuel our nightmares, and speak — when he’s at his best — to our shared experiences as flawed, emotional beings. The best King stories scare so many of us that we all feel connected, and even the worst are usually pretty fun.
King’s books and short stories quickly became hit movies, many of them celebrated in their time, and some flopped so hard that hardly anybody remembers them. Cataloguing every adaptation might be a fool’s errand, so we made some tough choices and decided to focus only on his theatrical releases.
And even then, there are so many King adaptations that it gets tricky. We’re not including the made-for-tv films (which are legion), and the sequels to King’s work rarely have anything to do with the source material,...

Hello, dear readers! We’re back with a brand new assortment of horror and sci-fi home media releases this week, and as we creep closer and closer towards Halloween, there are definitely a handful of titles coming out on Tuesday that would be fun to check out as you get ready for the spooky season. Arrow Video is keeping busy with a handful of releases, including a 4K version of Dario Argento’s The Cat O’ Nine Tails and Blind Beast. And speaking of Argento, Blue Underground is showing Two Evil Eyes - his collaboration with George A. Romero - some love with their 4K presentation of the film. Larry Cohen’s A Return to Salem’s Lot is finally getting a Blu-ray, and if you missed the latest Conjuring film in theaters earlier this year, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is headed home on multiple formats this week as well.

Last year it was revealed that after teaming up to bring nightmares to life in The Conjuring cinematic universe, James Wan and Gary Dauberman are looking to bring one of Stephen King's classic stories to the big screen with a film adaptation of ’Salem's Lot, with Wan producing and Dauberman executive producing and writing the screenplay. Nearly one year later, it's now been reported that Dauberman will also direct the latest adaptation of King's beloved 1975 book.
The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who report that Dauberman "has closed a deal to direct the feature thriller" for New Line Cinema. This will mark Dauberman's second movie as director, as he made his directorial debut with last year's Annabelle Comes Home.
According to THR, Roy Lee and Mark Wolper will produce the new 'Salem's Lot adaptation alongside Wan. A release date has yet to be announced.

Michael Moriarty, who starred in such classic films as Who’ll Stop the Rain and Pale Rider, exiled himself to Canada in 1995, following a nasty confrontation with U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno in a Washington, D.C. hotel room. Moriarty was invited along with network television executives and producers to hear Reno’s views on censorship of TV violence. Law and Order, one of the least violent shows on television, was cited as a major offender. Incensed by Reno's campaign to “forcibly end violence on television and trample on rights of free expression as guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution,” Moriarty quit the series and left the U.S. in protest. He has been a landed immigrant in Canada ever since. Why the fateful encounter with Reno led to a radical (and seemingly overnight) transformation of Moriarty’s...

Looks like we jumped the gun a bit reporting that the new working title for David R. Ellis' Shark Night 3D is The Briar Lake Murders. Instead it's looking like The Briar Lake Murders is actually one of Ellis' Next projects.
According to a website called thebriarlakemurders.com, Ellis' cinematographer on the project will be the legendary Daniel Pearl (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 1974, A Return to Salem's Lot, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003), and here's the synopsis:
A group of rude and insensitive city kids take a weekend vacation to Briar Lake, a picturesque town overlooking a beautiful lake, which to most outsiders would appear to be a peaceful small town. Having zero respect for anyone outside of their group, they are confronted by the hostile and eccentric residents. Following a bizarre experience in the town’s diner, they quickly retreat to the protection of their borrowed vacation lake house,...
