By now, we can safely say that Alert: Missing Persons Unit isn’t just grappling with Nikki Batista’s death –it’s experiencing the series’ slow, painful unraveling.
What even is this show anymore?
Since the abrupt and bizarre decision to kill off Dania Ramirez’s Nikki, Alert: Mpu has seemed lost in another identity crisis. The unfortunate truth is that this time, it probably won’t recover.
(Sergei Bachlakov/Fox)
I know what you’re thinking. You’re wondering why someone who hasn’t covered the series consistently for some time is still whining about it so much.
But it’s positively maddening how Alert: Mpu started with a relatively interesting premise (although it still pales compared to Found), and then opted to revamp it twice.
Perhaps I’m in the minority on this, but I enjoyed Alert: Mpu Season 1 in large part because of the familial element at...

When it comes to modern television, few names are as powerful or profitable as Chuck Lorre. For the past few decades, Lorre has written for, produced, and created several hit television series that have not only helped shape the landscape of primetime network sitcoms but often set the trend for comedy TV moving forward. By and large, Lorre's shows either feature relatable, everyday people in extraordinary situations or find the relatable human elements ignored when focusing on extraordinary people.
Having earned his stripes as a TV writer on shows like "Charles in Charge" and "My Two Dads," Lorre has been a staple of the industry for over 40 years. He's proven time and again that he understands the key to finding commercial success, despite the many valid criticisms of his reliance on formulaic humor. Hence, we're here to highlight the five best Chuck Lorre shows,...

Some of the most popular sitcoms of all time came out of the eighties. Shows like M.A.S.H., Cheers, The Cosby Show and Family Ties won accolades and dominated the ratings. Even Seinfeld started in the eighties. Unfortunately, this left room for plenty of other sitcoms of the era to slip through the cracks.
Decades after those well-known classic sitcoms ruled the airwaves, some of the shows that didnt warrant as much attention at the time still hold up, and some are even more relevant now than when they first aired. There are plenty of great old-school laughs to be found; audiences just need to know where to look.
An Unlikely Couple Raises a Teenage Girl in New York My Two Dads (1987 1990)
My Two Dads tells the story of Nicole Bradford, a 12-year-old who is sent to live with two men, each of whom could potentially be her biological father. One of the men,...

Beverly Hills Cop was truly one of the greatest comedies of the 1980s, and it boasted an incredibly talented cast of comedic performers. While this was the movie that turned Eddie Murphy from a notable comedian into an international superstar, it also featured many iconic performances from the rest of its acclaimed cast. Although for some Beverly Hills Cop cast members this may have been their best-known role, when digging into the backlogs of their filmographies, its shocking just how many hidden comedic gems there are just waiting to be discovered.
The legacy of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise has been absolutely huge, as not only did it feature one of the greatest synth movie scores of the 1980s, but it also helped revitalize the buddy cop genre for a new era. Scrubs and The Good Doctor don't have a great deal in common other than their medical setting, but that particular similarity results in certain scenarios occurring in both shows, and one shared sequence of events is suspiciously alike. Freddie Highmore leads the cast for all seven seasons of The Good Doctor, but the scene that closely copies a Scrubs moment doesn't involve Highmore's character of Dr. Shaun Murphy. Similarly, the scene's Scrubs counterpart doesn't really feature Zach Braff - who played John "Jd" Dorian throughout all nine seasons of Scrubs.
The Good Doctor had some wild storylines over its seven-season run, so while the moment it shares with Scrubs doesn't quite make the cut of bizarre plots, it isn't that far away either. Both shows also handle the occurrence very differently. With Scrubs being a sitcom and The Good Doctor being a drama, it would have been unusual for the...

There are people who’ll tell you that Japanese folklore fantasy Monkey airing at 6pm on Friday nights in the 1980s was the highpoint of post-school, pre-bedtime TV scheduling in the UK. Let’s not tell them that they’re wrong; let’s just pity them for having mistimed their childhood by a decade.
The 1990s were the real peak of the 6pm weeknight TV slot. As long as there was no Wimbledon, snooker, cricket, athletics or Horse of the Year Show, that’s where anyone too young to go to the pub found joy. While grown-ups were watching the Six O’Clock News, kids in households flush enough to have a second television switched on BBC Two or Channel 4. There, to quote Howard Carter upon breaking into Tutankhamun’s tomb, they found wonderful things.

Willie Mays, the incandescent center fielder for the New York and San Francisco Giants whose unmatched blend of speed and power made him a cultural icon and one of the finest players in the history of baseball, died Tuesday. He was 93.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that San Francisco Giants Legend and Hall of Famer Willie Mays passed away peacefully this afternoon at the age of 93,” the San Francisco Giants shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Andrew Koenig had a forgotten role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, linking back to his father's work on Star Trek: The Original Series. Koenig's appearance in DS9 was in an episode exploring xenophobia and prejudice, with a raw performance reflecting mistreatment of migrants. Boy Meets World podcast features insightful interviews with actors and crew members, but notably excludes showrunner Michael Jacobs. Fishel is open to having Jacobs on the podcast for a frank discussion about his behavior, while Strong opposes his inclusion.
Michael Jacobs is the producer behind several classic TV shows, so his absence from the Boy Meets World podcast is odd. Following the huge success of the global hit film franchise, ‘Ted,’ Sky has revealed that the bear is taking over the small screen in a 7-episode prequel series, available exclusively in the UK and Ireland on Sky Max, early next year.
It’s 1993, and Ted the Bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

The list of things you can call "all-American" and not mean it in a bad way grows smaller and smaller as time marches ever onward, but today the title solemnly fits: we lost a true all-American star in Dick Butkus. The trailblazing football player and Hall of Fame inductee, widely considered one of the best linebackers who ever lived, has died at the age of 80. The Butkus family released a statement earlier today announcing that Butkus had passed "peacefully in his sleep overnight." George H. McCaskey, the Chairman of Butkus' career-long team, the Chicago Bears, released his own statement shortly after memorializing Butkus thusly:
"Dick was the ultimate Bear, and one of the greatest players in NFL history. He was Chicago's son. He exuded what our great city is about and, not coincidentally, what George Halas looked for in a player: toughness, smarts, instincts, passion and leadership."

Michael Jacobs makes his directorial debut with the multi-generational romantic comedy Maybe I Do. Jacobs has had an important hand in shaping their childhood with Boy Meets World, My Two Dads, and Charles in Charge. His new film looks at love, happiness, and marriage from six different perspectives, with different opinions on how marriage can change a relationship forever.
Michelle (Emma Roberts) and Allen (Luke Bracey) have very different opinions about marriage. When she gives him an ultimatum about the future of their relationship, their parents step in to try and help. Setting up a dinner for their parents to meet for the first time Michelle's parents, Howard (Richard Gere) and Grace (Diane Keaton) are shocked to discover that they already know Allen's parents Monica (Susan Sarandon) and Sam (William H. Maybe I Do is a new multi-generational romantic comedy written and directed by Michael Jacobs, who brought audiences Boy Meets World, My Two Dads, and Charles in Charge. Michael Jacobs’ romantic comedy attempts to present a universal portrait of the difficulties faced by couples young and old, those just starting out and those married for many years. So it’s ironic that Maybe I Do, which features such stellar screen veterans as Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and William H. Macy plus relative youngsters Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, has exactly the opposite effect. Instead of relating to the characters onscreen, you marvel at how they all look so good. The dominant message isn’t that all couples have issues, but rather that movie stars age so much better than the rest of us.
Adding to the dissonance is that the film represents reunions for many of the cast members — and that we’ve seen them together before, most of the time in much better films. Gere and Sarandon have played married couples in Shall We Dance...

With Valentine’s Day just weeks away, many new romantic movies will premiere. One in particular that is worth noting is Maybe I Do. Written and directed by Michael Jacobs, a veteran of sitcoms like My Two Dads and Dinosaurs, Maybe I Do follows the story of Michelle and Allen. These two young people begin to question where their relationship will go next. They decide to invite their parents together for a family dinner. Little do they know, but all of their parents are involved in extramarital affairs with each other. It is a zany throwback to a romantic comedy and one that should appeal to all ages. Plus, it also stars Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Willam H. Macy, which makes this one hell of a cast.
I got to chat about the new film with three stars, including Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, and Diane Keaton. Emma talked about...

George Lopez marked his return to the sitcom landscape on Nov. 4, 2022, with the first episode of Lopez vs. Lopez. The show centers around his character as he reconnects with his estranged daughter while the working-class duo makes ends meet.
There are similar shows to Lopez vs. Lopez that ranges from the working-class aspect like The Conners or the matter of generational and culture clashes such as My Wife and Kids. With Lopez vs. Lopez airing weekly, fans have ample to check out shows along the same lines to fully hype themselves for a new episode from NBC sitcom.

Lopez vs. Lopez has the characters dealing with their Hispanic culture, which is an aspect that can be found in Grounded for Life. This sitcom has an Irish-American Catholic family, with the parents and children having differences over their backgrounds in humorous ways.

The films of the 1980s were awash in Yuppie scum villains. These characters were loathsome opportunists obsessed with career advancement and the acquisition of wealth. They sneered at poor people, rolled their eyes at social activists (caring about stuff was so 1960s) and took advantage of people attempting to make an honest living. James Spader was their avatar, but if you're looking for the apex of the archetype, you need look no further than Paul Reiser's Burke in "Aliens."
Burke is a slimy piece of work. The Weyland-Yutani exec uses the Marines' search-and-destroy mission as a pretense to smuggle xenomorph eggs back to Earth for biological weapons development. He even releases a pair of facehuggers as a dastardly means of turning Ripley and Newt into human xenomorph incubators. Burke's subsequent death at the hands of an alien is one of the film's most satisfying moments.

Sitcoms about dysfunctional families are old news. Now, from the creator of "Modern Family" comes the future of the genre: a snarky meta-comedy about a dysfunctional TV cast. "Reboot" tells the story of "Step Right Up," an early 2000s family sitcom that's being rebooted for a new generation. It may not be a tale as old as time, but it's certainly a timely concept given the overwhelming power of nostalgia. We've got reboots coming out the wazoo, so it was only a matter of time before nonexistent shows started getting the same treatment.
The fictional sitcom in question was a long-running hit that now lives out its days being constantly replayed on a streaming service. Then along comes Hannah Korman (Rachel Bloom), a cutting-edge indie screenwriter who wants to helm the reboot. Hannah has big ideas for the future of "Step Right Up": she wants to make it morally complex,...

Steven Levitan is a veteran of the American sitcom, starting his career on long-running multi-cam “Wings,” creating NBC’s “Just Shoot Me!,” and co-parenting “Modern Family,” which won the Emmy for outstanding comedy series five years in a row.

The Amazon Prime Video series' season three finale kicked off the next phase of the ongoing war between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr), thanks to Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), the son of Homelander and Butcher's late wife Becca (Shantel VanSanten). Despite Butcher trying to protect the boy from his biological father all season, Ryan ended the July 8 episode choosing to fly off with Homelander. Gulp. As if that wasn't concerning enough, Homelander then went to a rally, where he introduced his son to the public. And when one of Homelander's...

Dragon Ball Super Episode 80
“Forget my opponent. I need to see how strong I am now.”
When a show delivers so many consecutive fights, it can sometimes be hard for them to stand out or feel original. That’s the inherit problem when the Dragon Ball series approaches a big tournament. Sure, the variety in the characters themselves allows for originality in battles, but Dragon Ball Super definitely adopted a certain tunnel vision with its characters. The series’ newest arc isn’t even in the real Tournament of Power yet so it would be a severe problem if fights were already beginning to feel stale, but “Awaken Your Dormant Fighting Spirit!” features a particularly fresh take on fisticuffs.

So, The Lost Dimension arc, this year’s flavour of the now yearly multiple Doctors event, comes once again to a monthly book. I have said elsewhere that this year’s event, pretty much giving most of The Doctor’s incarnations their own adventures, should have taken place in their own books anyway, with a couple of Alpha and Omega bookends to tie it all up. It has ended up being a bit of a sprawling mess to be fair, lacking cohesiveness and struggling to find any sense of tension or even fun, jumping all over the place with seemingly very little payback.
For readers of the Twelfth Doctor’s book who are not following The Lost Dimension, you’ve not actually missed a great deal. A powerful force has been unleashing white holes across the universe,...

Paul Reiser isn’t the most identifiable ’80s figure in “Stranger Things.” The future “Mad About You” star saw solid hits during the decade in “Diner,” “My Two Dads,” and two “Beverly Hills Cop” movies, and he has been headlining another ’80s-set modern TV series for the past three years (the criminally under-appreciated “Red Oaks”). But he’s no Winona Ryder. He might even slip behind “Goonies” star Sean Astin in the Reagan-era power rankings. It’s doubtful fans were as excited about seeing Reiser as they were when his character, Dr. Sam Owens, offers Will Byers Reese’s Pieces.
Yet when it comes to homages within “Stranger Things,” few are as integral to the story as recognizing Paul Reiser as the bad guy from “Aliens.” Many have noted the superficial similarities between the characters, but it’s important to note why this casting works beyond a fun homage. It’s beneficial to the story,...

Marvel scored another massive hit at the box office this year with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The movie was also received very well by critics and fans, but most agree that it isn't quite as good as the original Guardians of the Galaxy, which came as a very pleasant surprise in 2014. As such, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Honest Trailer is here to explain why the sequel couldn't manage to be quite as good as the original. Though, it ultimately doesn't land hard enough punches, going a little soft with its tough love.
Even though Honest Trailers are known for ripping movies apart, the Screen Junkies gang seems to have a lot of love for this movie. They point out that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 did bring back a lot of the things we loved from the first one. James Gunn once again delivered crazy visuals,...

Unsuspecting Panda Gets Hit on the Head: The Franchise returns after 5 years in hibernation to serve up its popular platter of exquisitely crafted visual aesthetics and minimally involving story beats (author’s note: giant pandas do not hibernate). Kung Fu Panda 3 once again follows Po (voiced by Jack Black) on his legendary “Skadooshing” adventures, as he faces down threats to his kingdom, his species and his concept of fatherhood.
Not entirely unlike the recent viral video of Smithsonian’s National Zoo panda, Tian Tian, rolling through the snow, this installment in the Kung Fu Panda franchise provides a fleeting but fairly adorable diversion. The film – co-helmed by Oscar-nominated Kung Fu Panda 2 director Jennifer Yuh as well as Kung Fu Panda story artist Alessandro Carloni (his feature debut) – is rich with stylized sequences that heighten the experience from moment to moment when the movie isn’t bogged down by its all too familiar plot.
