The show was based on a real-life undercover unit in Los Angeles, California.
The character of Booker (Richard Grieco) was supposed to be killed off at the end of the third season but he proved popular and was spun off to his own show Booker (1989). In fact, by the end of Season 3, Richard Grieco was receiving more fan mail than any other cast member, including Johnny Depp.
Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise sang the JUMP!! backup vocals to the opening theme song while Holly Robinson Peete sang the lead.
Peter DeLuise (Doug Penhall) and Gina Nemo (Dorothy) were married in real life when they dated on the show.
