A great role can make a career... if there's a decent follow up. A good actor makes you believe they are the character, but sometimes, if they make you believe too well, it becomes impossible to see them as anyone else -- and that turned out to be the case for many of the actors on this list. A significant chunk of them have even been nominated for and sometimes even won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, only to find that the same energy couldn't be duplicated in other parts less perfectly tailored to their skills. Some struggled because of industrywide racial stereotypes limiting their opportunities, while others may have been limited in range to begin with and were incredibly lucky to find the one part that really worked.

Warner Bros. classic coming-of-age adventure movie The Goonies has officially found a new streaming home, four decades after its theatrical release. The 1985 movie was produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who was the one responsible for creating the story.
The Goonies is currently available to stream for free on Tubi. The movie was led by a group of rising young stars, including Astin, Josh Brolin, Ke Huy Quan, and Corey Feldman. The story follows Mikey (Astin), who accidentally discovers a hidden map which he believes will lead them to the long-lost treasure of pirate One-Eyed Willy. In order to save their homes from getting foreclosed, Mikey, his older brother, and friends embark on a once-in-a-lifetime treasure hunt, which means avoiding booby traps and fending off an Italian criminal family.

What Extreme Measure Did Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix Co-Star Take For His Role? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In 1999, The Matrix reshaped more than just reality. It reshaped bodies. While Keanu Reeves and the gang trained like martial arts machines, one of their co-stars took a more… surgical approach. Joe Pantoliano, who played the slippery Cypher, went under the knife to get in shape for the role. But the real twist: Warner Bros. never paid him back.
Pantoliano had worked with the studio before – Risky Business, The Goonies, U.S. Marshals – so he thought he had some goodwill built up. And when the Matrix team demanded he be in top-tier shape, he took them seriously. Very seriously. “They wanted me to be in the best shape of my life,” he told author Brian Raftery in Best. Movie. Year. Ever: How 1999 Blew Up the Big Screen (via Cheat Sheet). “No drinking, eating steamed vegetables,...

Florence Pugh pulls together an unlikely team of non-heroes in Marvel’s latest superhero romp. Here’s our Thunderbolts* review.
Tell me if this sounds familiar: a group of misunderstood loners with specific, often violent skills, team up to fight the forces of evil when they’re forced to save the world. It’s pretty much the plot to both cinematic variations of Suicide Squad and Marvel’s own Guardians Of The Galaxy trilogy. Heck, it applies to The Goonies and Armageddon as well if you really think about it.
It’s also the vague description of Thunderbolts*, Marvel’s latest attempt to become the cinematic superpower it once was. It finds Florence Pugh’s contract killer Yelena, still grieving the death of her sister, Black Widow. Yelena teams up with other, lesser-known Marvel villains-turned-heroes, including Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Red Guardian (David Harbour), to fight...

Bob Gale, the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of all threeBack to the Futuremovies, has once again declared that there's no chance for the sci-fi adventure franchise to get a modern sequel. Gale has been vocal in the past about where he stands with regard to a sequel, but now he's addressed other possibilities, such as spin-offs, and similarly struck them down with a decisive lightning bolt.
Per a report by Screen Crush, Gale attended the Universal Fan Fest Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, where Back to the Future had its own "in-world experience." It was there that the writer addressed the chances for Back to the Future 4, and he actually gave a candid answer that should (hopefully) convince everyone not to ask him again:
"I don't know why they keep talking about that! I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?...

When you think of Hollywood legends, Steven Spielberg isn’t just on the list—he Is the list. The three-time Oscar winner has been running the show for six decades, crafting stories that range from the deep end of sci-fi to gut-punch historical dramas (Schindler’s List still hits like a freight train). From the moment he unleashed the original summer blockbuster with Jaws to the heart-racing dino chaos of Jurassic Park, Spielberg practically wrote the rulebook on what makes a movie iconic.
With 23 Academy Award nominations, 3 wins, and a box office haul north of $10.7 billion, the guy’s not just a director—he’s a one-man cinematic universe. Whether it’s small, soul-stirring tales like The Color Purple or personal passion projects like The Fabelmans, Spielberg has proven time and again that there’s no genre he can’t conquer.
Or… is there?
Believe it or not, the king...

There’s something about treasure hunting movies that just hits differently. Maybe it’s the dusty maps, ancient traps, or the characters who clearly have no plan but still survive it all. These movies have it all, booby traps, secret caves, double-crossing sidekicks, and the occasional cursed artifact. Some go full Indiana Jones mode, while others mix in comedy, mystery, or even a little romance, because why not fall in love while dodging death?
The best ones make you feel like you’re right there, sneaking through jungles or deciphering clues on a centuries-old scroll. And let’s not forget the over-the-top villains who always monologue too long. Whether it’s gold, lost cities, or something weirdly glowing in a box, treasure movies serve drama, chaos, and adventure in one messy, glorious ride.
So, grab your (pretend) fedora and scroll through this list of the best treasure-hunting flicks to ever grace our screens.

Netflix has said his name three times, because Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is getting ready to cause havoc on the streaming service. But, just like making a deal with the titular trickster, there's a catch to the movie's new streaming home. Released in 2024, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was almost 40 years in the making for director Tim Burton and stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara. The film opened to decent reviews (75% on Rotten Tomatoes), and a strong box-office performance ($451 million worldwide), but the juice has taken a surprising amount of time to get loose on streaming outside of Warner Bros.' own Max platform.
Per What's On Netflix, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has penned a contract to land on Netflix in May. According to the report, the sequel will arrive on the streamer in the US on May 6. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's Netflix release comes as part of the build up to Season 2 of Tim Burton and Netflix's hit series Wednesday.

2025 has been a relatively disappointing year for film thus far. Between big-budget disappointments like “Captain America: Brave New World” and underwhelming genre breakouts like “Death of a Unicorn” and “Opus,” it’s hard to feel like the first few months of the year will be anything but a miserable period of time to be a cinephile. Nonetheless, Ryan Coogler was finally given the freedom to make a completely original genre film with “Sinners,” and to no one’s surprise, managed to capture the popular culture zeitgeist with an inventive mix of action, scares, humor, and heart.
“Sinners” is in many ways the ideal cinematic experience. While there’s enough substance within Coogler’s social and historical commentary to appease those who seek a deeper experience, the film is also entertaining as a crowd pleaser, so it should still be entertaining for those who are only wanting to see action and suspense.

Steven Spielberg is a man who needs no introduction. With his career spanning six decades, his films' impact on the industry and in modern popular culture cannot be overstated. From the biggest blockbusters such as "Jaws" and "Jurassic Park" to the smaller character-driven films such as "The Color Purple" and most recently, "The Fabelmans," fewer filmmakers have accomplished his level of influence in so many genres of cinema. With 23 Oscar nominations and 3 wins, and a filmography that has grossed $10.7 billion at the global box office making him the highest-grossing film director of all-time, there is almost nothing he cannot accomplish.
In his decorated career, Steven Spielberg has also had his share of unrealized projects. One of those projects includes an adaptation of the sci-fi novel "Robopocalypse," which was to be written by "Cabin in the Woods" co-writer/director Drew Goddard and had Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway attached to star.

The talented cast of “The Pitt” includes a number of actors whose parents are also in the business. Following a rather successful second outing last year, Warner Bros has given Beetlejuice 3 the go ahead.
After waiting several decades for a follow-up to 1988’s Beetlejuice, it looks like fans of the series won’t have to wait that long for the next one. Last year’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice made some serious bank for Warner Bros, and so it appears that a sequel has been quickly commissioned. The news comes via a Deadline interview with Warner Bros co-heads, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, two executives who have had to weather plenty of speculation about their futures of late.
All of that noise doesn’t seem to have stopped them building up the studio’s future slate, though, and with A Minecraft Movie continuing to gobble up plenty of cash at the box office (it’s now north of half a billion dollars), they have a sizeable hit to point...

When Stranger Things first debuted on Netflix in 2016, it took no time in hooking the fans with its unique and fascinating storyline set in the 80s. The show looked like a love letter to the classic 80s pop culture and could grab the attention of both old and new age viewers. While the adults loved its nostalgic charm, the gripping mystery compelled the young demographic.
However, as the seasons gradually progressed, the show started to lose its charm. With each passing season, the focus seemed to shift more to the grandeur over the growth of individual characters. The scenario changed even more when another Netflix hit series, Dark, entered the scene with a similar narrative, and slowly started to engulf Stranger Things in its enigma.

Much has been said about Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav's intention to replace current Warner Bros. Pictures heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, though the shock success of A Minecraft Movie may have bought the executives some time.
Regardless, Deadline recently spoke to them about the studio's future plans, including a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel and new takes on The Matrix, Practical Magic, Gremlins, Goonies, and more. The DC brand also came up (despite DC Studios being separate from Warner Bros.), and De Luca shared high praise for James Gunn's Superman.
"I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it," he said. "It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional.

“We’re super excited about Amblin developing with Chris Columbus, new entries in the Gremlins and Goonies franchises,” Abdy said.

It is two years since Warner Bros’ Discovery boss David Zaslav made it clear that one big push he wanted to see happening at the studio is to draw out more content from some of their biggest IPs. Since then, a Harry Potter TV series has become a reality, a new Lord of the Rings movie is in development over a decade after the release of The Hobbit, and several other well-known properties are set for expansions. In a recent interview with Deadline, Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy shared a little insight into some other projects on the horizon. De Luca shared:
“Drew Goddard [is] writing and directing The Matrix. Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Jay Roach, with their Ocean’s Eleven prequel; Matt Reeves as producer, working with Marvel’s Werewolf By Night director Michael Giacchino on a remake of our library title Them; Andy Serkis directing Gollum.

After the surprise box office success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Warner Bros. Pictures might just say the name a third time. May we suggest Threetlejuice? In an exclusive interview with Deadline, studio co-chairs and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy revealed that a third installment in Tim Burton’s iconic spooky franchise is already inching its way toward reality. The duo confirmed they are “imminently” developing sequels to both Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and A Minecraft Movie, which became two of 2025’s most unexpected—and lucrative—blockbusters.
“The ink might not be dry on the deals yet,” De Luca said, “but imminently,” suggesting both films are quickly becoming top-priority franchise plays for the studio. That would be big news on its own, but it comes in the context of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice massively overperforming expectations. The long-gestating sequel reunited original cast members Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara, while bringing in new...

In an extensive new chat with Deadline, Warner Bros. CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have spilled the beans on a handful of new projects in the works at the studio, confirming along the way that a brand new installment in the Gremlins film franchise is on the menu!
This confirms a report from this past January, you may recall, where we had learned that a new Gremlins movie from Chris Columbus was a “franchise hope” over at Warner Bros.
Abdy said in the new interview with Deadline this afternoon, “We’re super excited about Amblin developing with Chris Columbus, new entries in the Gremlins and Goonies franchises.”
Chris Columbus was of course the writer of the original Steven Spielberg-produced Gremlins, so it’s very exciting to hear that Columbus is back on board with the franchise.

Exclusive: If you focus on snarky and largely unsubstantiated reports, you might figure Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy would spend this weekend boxing up their belongings. Using a couple flops and risky upcoming films as fodder, several reports with scant backup say their Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav is scouring for replacement candidates (which he denies in a tepid manner). Despite the rough press, De Luca and Abdy will actually spend this weekend same as their counterparts at other studios do: trying to keep an eye on kids while they read scripts, watch dailies and dream up slates for 2026 and beyond.

The Goonies is filled with a ton of memorable scenes. But one that stands out above all else is the moment the titular gang comes across One-Eyed Willy’s pirate ship. But to capture it, director Richard Donner and producer Steven Spielberg had the idea to hide it from the view of the cast to get the most authentic reactions possible…or so the story goes.
Appearing at a cast reunion which coincided with The Goonies’ 40th anniversary, star Sean Astin (Mikey Walsh) said that he couldn’t believe anyone would think to do such a thing to a young cast. “I was sort of offended that they had that idea, that they wouldn’t let the kids see the pirate ship, so that they could capture their real reaction. Like, what? We don’t know how to do real? We did real reactions all the time.” Astin added that...

After 40 years, The Goonies still never say die, as is evident by the recent news that a sequel to the beloved 1985 film is officially in the works by Stephen Spielberg and Chris Columbus. Reactions have undoubtedly been mixed, with some saying they can't wait to see what happens next, while others believe the original is a classic, and should be left alone. Regardless of how you feel, it appears as if The Goonies 2 is closer than ever to finally being made, and some of the original cast members recently explained what took so long, and why the new film will be "spectacular"

There's one persistent rumor about beloved family film The Goonies, but Sean Astin doesn't want to hear it. In fact, he's mildly insulted that the rumor ever became a thing.
The rumor is that the child actors in The Goonies deliberately weren't shown One-Eyed Willy's pirate ship beforehand, so their looks of awe when they encountered it on camera would be real. But, as was revealed at the “Hey You Guys! The Goonies Reunion” panel at Awesome Con over the weekend (via People), some of them very much had seen the ship beforehand.
"I was sort of offended that they had that idea, that they wouldn’t let the kids see the pirate ship, so that they could capture their real reaction. Like, what? We don’t know how to do real? We did real reactions all the time," Astin said on the panel. He went on, "But I remember...

It was confirmed this year that Warner Bros. was developing the sequel to the 1985 cult classic The Goonies. So far, it has been revealed that the old creative team is back to work on the next installment. However, one thing that's still shrouded in mystery is the cast. That mystery continues to linger as, according to the original ensemble, they, too, are unsure if they're going to return.
The Goonies featured a decent child ensemble, starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, andKe Huy Quan, some of whom could continue their acting careers as adults while others pursued other endeavors. But since the original cast are now adults, the question lingers about whether they will have cameo roles or be part of the main cast but all grown up. During the “Hey You Guys! The Goonies 2 is officially in development by Warner Bros. Pictures and Ke Huy Quan, who starred in the original as Data, has offered an exciting update that's enough to keep the dream alive. So far, nothing beyond the official confirmation has been said about the sequel to The Goonies, so these tidbits of information will have to do for now.
Quan spoke to Entertainment Tonight on the 40th anniversary of Richard Donner's teen action adventure movie, The Goonies. It's a classic from the 1980s that follows a group of teenagers on the hunt for a pirate treasure with enough gold to save their homes from being torn down. Released in 1985, under the veil of Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, the film was a hit with audiences and critics and remains a staple of the decade that changed the landscape of commercial cinema.

It's been 40 years since The Goonies entered theaters, showcasing an adventure comedy film targeting children and the young at heart. After years of confirmation and denial, it wasn't until 2025 that it was announced that a sequel is finally in development, and Ke Huy Quan has recently shared an optimistic update on how it's going.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Quan shared that the people working on The Goonies sequel are the same creative team who worked on the first film, like Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg, and has acknowledged it has been in development for a long time. While the fate of the film's production schedule remains uncertain, the actor stated that he's optimistic that it will come together.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 9, titled “How the Story Ends” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Lauren Ambrose — who joined the cast of “Yellowjackets” in Season 2 — describes Van as a “survivor.”
Or she was, that is — in the penultimate episode of Season 3, Van is stabbed to death by Melissa (Hilary Swank). Before that, she’d had more than her fair share of near-misses. Season 1 began with teen Van (Liv Hewson) trapped on the burning plane, when it seemed like there was no way to get her out, but she survived, much to the relief of her fellow Yellowjackets. Later that season, Van got attacked by a wolf, and her friends believed her to be dead — they even planned her funeral. As they prepared her funeral pyre, she flickered her eyes and was, in fact, alive. When Ambrose’s adult Van was introduced in Season...

The fights between the teenage Yellowjackets escalated last week. The divide between Team Stay in the Woods and the rest of the girls seems to lean one way. However, the three who want to stay have an odd hold over the others. “How the Story Ends” looks to solve that issue and remind us why Shauna seems to have gone off the deep end in the present. Standing over your ex with a piece of their flesh (that you bit off) is probably not the way to win them back. However, has Shauna ever done anything normal?

The penultimate episode of Yellowjackets season 3 is titled “How The Story Ends,” yet it is just a temptress that keeps us on the edge of our seats waiting to know how this all ends. But, just as Van says, “What’s the fun in that?” We have to wait until the show is over to truly understand the meaning of all this, eh? Yellowjackets has now pulled a Game of Thrones by killing 3 of its main characters in the 3rd season. I don’t know what to do with myself now, will it really all end with just one survivor? That can’t be right, can it? Is it just me, or does this all feel like a big lie, especially having seen the last part of that episode? Anyway, with that said, let’s jump straight into everything that goes down in season 3, episode 9.

Ke Huy Quan’s ‘Temple of Doom’ Secret!(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Ke Huy Quan spent months on the set of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, surrounded by creepy props and intense action. But there was one thing he wasn’t allowed to see: the film’s most infamous death scene.
When Temple of Doom hit theaters in 1984, it wasn’t just another action-adventure. It changed movie ratings forever. The sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark took Indiana Jones to India, where he uncovered a sinister cult. The film packed in horror elements that went far beyond the usual PG rating, shocking parents and forcing the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to introduce PG-13.
Spielberg had always pushed boundaries. Jaws was rated PG despite its terrifying shark attacks. Raiders had melting faces. But Temple of Doom went further, especially in one scene.

Corey Feldman, the 1980s icon who starred in films like The Goonies and The Lost Boys, has made a very surprising revelation. At the end of the '80s, Feldman's career took a bit of a stumble, but in 1993, all that could have changed if it hadn't been for another co-star's request. The actor has revealed that he was supposed to have starred in the drama What's Eating Gilbert Grape, but Johnny Depp refused to work with him. As a consequence, Feldman was replaced by newcomer Leonardo DiCaprio.

Corey Feldman is reflecting on his career and one missed opportunity that still stings.
On a recent episode of The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan podcast, Feldman told the host he was originally cast opposite Johnny Depp in the 1993 film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
“I was actually cast to play Leonardo DiCaprio’s role,” Feldman said.
When Corgan asked if he was pushed out of the film, Feldman said, “Johnny did.”
“He was cast after I was, and apparently whispered into the producers’ ear that he wasn’t fond of me,” Feldman continued. “He said I was a junkie and that he didn’t work with junkies and this is the first time I remember ever telling this story, so, I’m sure I’m going to get hung by this one.”

It’s difficult to imagine any other actor other than Sean Astin portraying the role of the loyal and brave Hobbit, Samwise Gamgee in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Ringstrilogy. Although he was already a household name for those of a certain generation from the classic 1985 film, The Gooniesand other films like Memphis Belle (1990) and Rudy (1993), the role of Frodo’s faithful companion solidified Astin’s place in pop culture lore.
However, Astin’s Goonies co-star, Corey Feldman, said that he was nearly cast as Sam in the iconic trilogy based on the J.R.R. Tolkien novels. Per Newsweek, Feldman, in an appearance on the Smashing Pumpkins’s frontman Billy Corgan’s The Magnificent Others podcast, said he auditioned for the role of Sam and almost secured the part.
“I was actually up for Sean’s role, and I got pretty close on that as well,” Feldman said. “Although...

What in the po-ta-toes? Could it be true that someone other than Sean Astin could have played the part of Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy? According to '80s heartthrob Corey Feldman, the answer is a resounding "yes!" Astin took on the role of Frodo's faithful friend in 2001's The Fellowship of the Rings, and it's a part he'd play for the next three years until the saga's conclusion in The Return of the King. However, if you believe what Feldman has to say, things could have looked a lot different.
Appearing on Billy Corgan's The Magnificent Others podcast to discuss his career, the subject of some of the roles Feldman missed out on over the years came up. It was then that The Goonies star revealed that he auditioned for Samwise Gamgee, heard he was "close" to getting it, but then was upstaged...

Corey Feldman recently appeared on Billy Corgan’s “Magnificent Others” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) and claimed that Johnny Depp got him fired off “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” Lasse Hallström’s 1993 drama about a grocery store clerk and his dysfunctional family. Feldman said he got cast in the role of Arnie, the disabled younger brother of Depp’s Gilbert. Leonardo DiCaprio ultimately played the role on screen.
“I was actually cast to play Leonardo DiCaprio’s role,” he said. “I never saw the film because I’m still bitter. Bitter leaf in that one. But yes, I was originally cast for that role.”
“Did they push you out?” Corgan asked.
“Johnny Depp,” Feldman answered. “He was cast after I was, and apparently whispered into the producers’ ear that he wasn’t fond of me, and thought — he said that I was a junkie and that he didn’t work with junkies.
