Arnold Schwarzenegger Almost Played DC's Sgt. Rock – And Then It Fell Apart
Image
Warner Bros. threw the film industry a curveball when it abruptly shut down pre-production on Luca Guadagnino's "Sgt. Rock." The DC Studios production carried a $70 million budget (reasonable for a studio war flick based on a comic book), had attracted a killer cast that included Colin Farrell (who took over the role from Daniel Craig) and Mike Faist and David Jonsson, and was set to shoot this summer. Some felt it was an odd choice for Guadagnino, but he's made a career out of odd choices. I still don't know if I like his earth-tone remake of Dario Argento's "Suspiria," but I respect the audacity. To his maverick credit, Guadagnino's "Sgt. Rock," which got greenlit primarily because DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran flipped for "Challenger" writer Justin Kuritzkes' screenplay, almost certainly wouldn't have been the "Sgt. Rock" movie I've been clamoring for since the late 1980s.

Halt! Who goes there? A new Small Soldiers 4K Blu-ray will be hitting shelves this summer
Image
Commandos! Get ready for a new crisp 4K Blu-ray release of the under-appreciated Joe Dante film Small Soldiers. The 1998 movie can be seen as a spiritual successor of sorts to Dante’s Gremlins series — as little sentient beings run amok on an unsuspecting group of people in a small town and it takes a plucky young hero, with his own little ally, to try to contain and destroy them. Blu-ray.com has reported that Paramount Home Media Distribution is set to release this new 4K remaster alongside a limited edition Steelbook Blu-ray on July 22.

The movie includes an all-star cast with Kirsten Dunst, Gregory Smith, Jay Mohr, Phil Hartman, Kevin Dunn, David Cross and Denis Leary. Meanwhile, the voice cast includes Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Brown, George Kennedy, Frank Langella, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Ernest Borgnine, Harry Shearer, Bruce Dern, Clint Walker, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Christina Ricci.

The description reads,...

Superboys Of Malegaon Producer Zoya Akhtar & Star Adarsh Gourav On The Magic Of Filmmaking (Exclusive)
Image
Following its premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival last year, the critically acclaimed Superboys of Malegaon is now officially streaming on Prime Video, and ahead of its debut, we were able to catch up with producer Zoya Akhtar (Gully Boy; Dahaad; Kho Gaye Hum Kahan) and stars Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger; Extrapolations; Hostel Daze) and Vineet Kumar Singh (Mukkabaaz; Gangs of Wasseypur; Betaal) to talk about the incredible film, which is based on the 2008 documentary of the same name, that adapts the true life story of filmmaker Nasir Shaikh and his friends.

In our conversation, Akhtar talks me through the magic of filmmaking and why this kind of story will always resonate, while Gourav and Singh elaborate on their different approaches for their respective characters, and how they were able to play proper homage to the real-life people while also leaving their own mark on the parts.

The synopsis reads,...

Class of 1999 (1990) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
Sometimes when I make a video on one of my favorite movies, I find something a little extra upon further viewing. Obviously, there is some research that goes into it as I like to look up what else the writer, director, or actors did or even what possible sequels there are. Class of 1984 is one of my favorite horror adjacent titles out there from the script by Tom Holland and great performances from Roddy McDowell, Perry King, and all of the main gang members. It shows the very real fears of what teachers in bad areas could potentially deal with, only with the knob turned all the way to 11 and it’s immensely rewatchable. While I had heard that there were sequels to the movie, I wrote them off as cash-ins, especially since they were quite a bit after, and the movie was fine as a standalone. Then I...

The 25 Greatest Action Movies of All Time!
Image
What are the greatest action movies of all time? It’s a controversial question, isn’t it? Any time any publication or site puts out a new list of what they consider the best action movies of all time, it can’t help but generate a ton of controversy. Nevertheless, we here at JoBlo have decided to throw our hats into the ring with a list we really hope generates some nostalgia among our viewers but also encourages them to seek out the movies on this list that they may not have seen. But first, some may wonder where superhero movies are on this list. Given how broad that genre is, we decided to stick to old-school action, so we have left them off the list, as they deserve their own ranking. There are also a few absences from the list, notably some Jackie Chan Hong Kong films (like Police Story...

10 Actors With Disgusting On-Set Habits
Image
Everyone's experienced that one co-worker who insists on dropping an air biscuit around the printer and copier, loves to warm up the stinkiest fish in a microwave, or forgets to flush the toilet after they go. For actors and crew members, they too need to put up with other people's disgusting on-set habits. It could be anything from a refusal to take a shower on a daily basis to someone's butt adding unnecessary sound effects to every scene. Whichever way, it's a gross experience for the people who need to deal with the perpetrator and put up with whatever's going down.

What's surprising is how many top A-list talent possess these "special" quirks. For instance, Robert Pattinson and Brad Pitt aren't renowned for being the cleanest people on a film set, so it's probably best to apply a 20-meter radius when around them on a particularly hot day. Also, it's...

This weapon can turn any battlefield into a blockbuster. It’s loud, destructive, and perfectly chaotic, just the way Super Earth likes it. Whether you missed the announcement or recently joined the fight for democracy, the Commando is still up for grabs, and just as devastating as ever.

From melting armor to wrecking enemy structures, this weapon doesn’t disappoint. Here’s how to unlock it and bring the boom.

How to unlock the Mls-4X Commando in Helldivers 2

Jason Statham Is the Last of the Strong, Silent Types
Image
Action megastar Jason Statham still looks powerful for a man inching toward 60. And the older he gets, the more worn and lived-in his face becomes, like my therapist’s leather couch. So what if he doesn’t take off his shirt as much anymore? He’s built like a wrestler, but graceful, too, an experienced kickboxer with a trademark, face-smashing spinning back-kick. In A Working Man, the U.K.-born Statham stars as an all-American man’s man with a Cockney accent (he was a Royal Marine long ago, you...

A Working Man
Image
A Working Man may be the Jason Statham-iest film ever to Stath. With its man-on-a-mission, hunt-for-a-kidnapped-girl narrative, it borrows wholeheartedly from the likes of Commando and Taken, and effectively steals from John Wick in the “weapons sommelier” played by David Harbour. But this is first and foremost a Jason Statham film, boiled down to its essential ingredients — losing all flavour and substance in the process.

Statham ostensibly plays a character called Levon Cade, but in a very real, more accurate sense, he plays a character called ‘Jason Statham’: a tough guy with a mysterious military past and an unplaceable Essex-by-way-of-Beverly-Hills accent who dispatches a succession of forgettable goons in order to save the day. It is exactly the same type found in all his recent roles, often in films with similar job-title titles: The Mechanic, The Transporter, The Beekeeper.

The last — which featured the appalling line, “To bee or not to bee!

The first reactions to Jason Statham and David Ayer’s A Working Man say it’s pure ’80s-style action with an absurd body count
Image
If action movies from the ’80s get your blood pumping, you’ll want to pay attention to the hype behind David Ayer and Jason Stathams latest cinematic beat-down, A Working Man. The first reactions to the duo’s latest display of one-man-army madness are making the rounds on social media. From the look of things, we’ve got many reasons to get excited about Statham’s latest showcase of badassery and body-sending one-liners.

According to JoBlo’s Editor-in-Chief, Chris Bumbray, A Working Man is a “campy B-movie blast” that starts off low-key but quickly ramps up with demented madness.

A Working Man is a campy B-movie blast. Statham kills hundreds. Stallone’s script is eighties-style madness (a compliment) and Ayer’s direction is on point. Similar to Beekeeper in that it starts low key and gets more demented (gloriously so) as it goes on.

'A Working Man' Final Trailer Finds Jason Statham Doing What He Does Best This Friday
Image
Action icon Jason Statham gets to work in the final trailer for action thriller A Working Man, which is due to hit theaters this Friday. The Stath once again plies his gloriously violent trade in A Working Man, which finds The Beekeeper star on familiar ground as a man with a secret past who must resurrect his particular set of skills after his boss and friend's daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers.

Directed by The Beekeeper’s David Ayer, and with a script from Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, A Working Man also stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Jason Flemyng, Arianna Rivas (The Black Phone 2), Noemi Gonzalez (Selena: The Series), and Emmett J. Scanlan. A Working Man is scheduled to land in theaters on March 28, 2025, and you can check out the final trailer and synopsis below.

'A Working Man' First Reactions Heap Praise on Jason Statham’s Gloriously No-Nonsense Action Thriller
Image
Following the monumental success of last year’s The Beekeeper, action movie icon Jason Statham returns to the big screen this week with the equally brilliant-looking A Working Man. Well, we say “equally brilliant,” but based on the first reactions, the reunion of Statham and The Beekeeper’s David Ayer is sounding even better.

Beginning with X/Twitter user and critic @NextBestPicture, A Working Man finds Statham at his absolute best, with the "no-nonsense blockbuster” delivering nothing less than “relentless entertainment, packed with hard-hitting set pieces and a Statham performance that’s as fierce as it is grounded.”

“A Working Man is easily my favorite Jason Statham-led action film in quite some time. Leaps and bounds better than his last collaboration with David Ayer. While it may run a bit long, this blue-collar, no-nonsense blockbuster delivers relentless entertainment, packed with hard-hitting set pieces and a Statham performance that’s as fierce as it is grounded.

31 Years Ago, This Keanu Reeves Film Became an Even Bigger Box Office Success Than John Wick
Image
Keanu Reeves is a national treasure. An indelible performer, he's actively improving with age, putting his stoic gravitas to spectacular effect as cinema's greatest action hero. Fans fell in love with him in The Matrix, heralding Neo as a modern pop culture icon. However, when critics took issue with Reeves' limited range, he reinvented himself with The John Wick franchise. As the Baba Yaga, Keanu Reeves is a harbinger of death, carrying himself like an icy specter of relentless bloodshed. Suffice it to say, the role cemented his status as a warrior without equal. That being said, Keanu wasn't always the action-savant his reputation suggests.

Released in 1994, Speed is a first-rate thrill ride rarely seen on the big screen nowadays. The premise is simple yet brilliant: There's a bomb on a bus, and if it goes below 50 Mph, it will blow. The result is an immaculate piece of cinematic craft...

Judge Dredd (1995) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
Imagine if, in modern times, the role of let’s say, DC’s Sgt. Rock went to the literal Rock, Dwayne Johnson. Imagine that he was given creative control over the high budget state of the art project despite having no idea who Sgt. Rock even was initially. Finally, imagine he decided to make it in the vein of all of his films, hiring Kevin Hart to be his sidekick, and royally pissing off fans of the source material along the way. That’s the best modern analogy I can come up with for what happened to 1995’s Judge Dredd. A film that had crew members allegedly taking bets on their director’s life expectancy, an NC17 rating, and Sylvester Stallone screaming I Am The Law!!! This is what happened to Judge Dredd.

Judge Dredd debuted in 1995; a year packed with iconic films. At the time, the superhero craze hadn’t fully kicked in,...

Why Sylvester Stallone Regrets A Cult Classic Action Thriller
Image
Rarely has a decade been as closely tied to a film genre in pop culture as the 1980s are to ridiculous action movies. The era of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and others of their stripe certainly blend well into the '90s, but the '80s is where the big, beefy, sweaty, machine-gun-toting hero became a staple of cinema. Of course, as with any genre, there were better and worse attempts at hitting the mark with this particular brand of action film. Titles like "The Terminator" and "First Blood" gave credibility to their respective muscular stars, eschewing the camp and absurdity for high-concept sci-fi and gritty political character drama, respectively. But then there were the less artistically sophisticated films -- features like Schwarzenegger's "Commando" and Stallone's "Cobra," which came out back-to-back in 1985 and 1986.

"Cobra," specifically, has become something of a cult classic, in large part because of its cartoonish protagonist.

'John Wick' Creator's First Movies Are Streaming for Free
Image
A story born from the love of man and dog struck gold with the neo-noir action thrillerJohn Wickin 2014. Growing into a franchise, it's enjoyed for its expertly executed fight sequences, the compelling performance of a retired assassin seeking vengeance by Keanu Reeves, and the intricate world-building, featuring a secret society of assassins known as the High Table. What began as a simple tale of grief and revenge evolved into one of Hollywood's most stylish action franchises.

John Wick was created by screenwriter and producer Derek Kolstad, whose love for the work is well-documented. Although he's now best known for Wick, just before it exploded, he linked up with the mighty and beloved 'tough guy' star, Dolph Lundgren, for not one but two action films. Kolstad wrote 2012's One in the Chamber, directed by William Kaufman, and 2013's The Package, directed by Jesse V. Johnson, which are currently streaming for free.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is Santa Claus in Set Video from 'The Man with the Bag'
Image
Set footage of Arnold Schwarzenegger decked out in a plush red suit and sporting a frosty white beard have made fans do a double take, as the action hero becomes Santa Claus for his upcoming festive movie. Joining forces with Reacher star Alan Ritchson for The Man with the Bag, the Amazon MGM Studios movie is expected to hit Prime Video this December, and the first look at the film has certainly set the scene for Schwarzenegger’s return to the Christmas genre for the first time in almost 30 years.

The action legend’s appearance in The Man with the Bag will bring him back to the festive market for only the second time following the 1996 comedy Jingle All the Way, and is his first big movie since 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. Those expecting to see Schwarzenegger with his usual muscly, stiff-jawed look will be in for a shock as...

Dil Madharasi: Director Ar Murugadoss Unveils The Reason Behind Title Of Sivakarthikeyan’s Upcoming Film
Image
What is the reason behind the title of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film, Madharasi? (Photo Credit – Twitter/Instagram)

In an interview with The Times of India, the director shared the reason behind choosing this name. The story begins in North India and is told from the perspective of North Indian characters. Madharasi is a term that some North Indians use to refer to South Indians. While its usage has declined in modern times, Murugadoss believes it perfectly fits the film’s theme. He also mentioned that the movie explores how North Indians perceive South Indians.

The director also shared insights about the film’s genre, describing it as ‘an out-and-out action film’ while emphasizing that a love story will be at its core.

Sivakarthikeyan sports a rugged look in the film, portraying a character who doesn’t care about his appearance or himself. Murugadoss hinted that the role will have a unique element,...

10 Most Intense Action Movies of All Time, Ranked
Image
Sometimes, action movies can be great without being particularly intense. There’s something fun about seeing a near-invincible hero blasting, punching, or kicking their way through scores of less competent bad guys, and if there wasn’t, there might not be a chance that someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger would’ve ever made it big (Commando is perhaps the quintessential dumb action movie with a comically powerful protagonist).

The 10 Best Jack Reacher Books, Ranked
Image
Sometimes, a popular thing is popular simply because it really is that good. And in the case of author Lee Child's Jack Reacher book series... Well, they really are that good. Call them beach reads or airport novels if you must, but few novels are guaranteed to deliver a more entertaining time at the beach or airport than these. When asked to describe them by movie fans, I tell them they're like Michael Mann making Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Commando."

If you've seen the Tom Cruise movies or the Alan Ritchson TV series, you know the drill: Jack Reacher is a former military police officer who now wanders the United States of America as. homeless vagrant, solving mysteries and righting wrongs and avenging those in need whenever he stumbles across an injustice. He's 6' 4" and 250 pounds of pure muscle. He's good at breaking arms. He loves coffee. He's smarter than you and always correct.

They Tried To Make a Sequel to an Arnold Schwarzenegger Sci-Fi Hit — It Turned Into a Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise Classic
Image
1990’s Total Recall was a game-changer in the film career of Arnold Schwarzenegger. After years of establishing himself with high-concept action programmers like Commando and The Running Man, Schwarzenegger proved with his role as Douglas Quaid he could handle an intelligent sci-fi thriller based on Philip K. Dick’s short story, “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale." It was not long before Carolco Pictures demanded a sequel, as director Paul Verhoeven and the writers had their sights on another Dick story: Minority Report.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's '90s Bomb 'Last Action Hero' Was Actually Genius
Image
The motion picture carries multiple definitions, depending on who you ask. To some, it’s an art form that’s worth preserving for posterity; for others, it’s entertainment and a means of escapism. Throughout the 1980s, big-budget action-adventure films were all the rage. Many of these action forays featured stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the latter of whom starred in a meta-examination of the genre in Last Action Hero. Released in 1993, Last Action Hero blurs the lines between the manufactured world of cinema and the reality that so many audience members are eager to seek refuge from.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose box office appeal has remained relatively consistent for the past few decades, has starred in many films that take place in a wildly exaggerated facsimile of reality. Last Action Hero incorporates elements from The Purple Rose of Cairo and Cinema Paradiso to examine the deep love that...

20 Years Ago, Dwayne Johnson & Karl Urban Starred In One Of The Worst Video Game Movies Ever
Image
"Doom" was released when 1993 was coming to a close, a time that had already witnessed the rise of the first-person shooter (Fps) genre. While the Fps craze had just begun, "Doom" took it to the next level by embracing a snappy multiplayer-style gameplay with little to no focus on the game's story. Multiplayer or co-op gaming might not be a novel concept today, but back then, the opportunity for gamers to gather and compete with each other during Lan parties helped foster a robust community like no other. At the forefront of these get-togethers and intense campaigns was "Doom," which changed the face of Fps gaming and inspired countless titles that would mimic its core ethos down the line.

It is no surprise that the overwhelming popularity of "Doom" led to the creation of a longstanding franchise. Most of these titles share a core premise: an unnamed space marine known...

The Best Action Movie From Each Year Of The 1990s
Image
The 1990s were a phenomenal decade for the action movie, with almost every year seeing the release of multiple iconic films in the genre. Many of the best action movies were released in the 90s, the decade simply being something special when it came to dreaming up long-lasting action franchises and memorable one-off thrillers with plenty of heart, humor, and creativity. From 1990 to 1999, some of the greatest names in the space saw their debut for a very lucky generation of movie goers.

The big action movies of the 80s like First Blood and Commando had come and gone by the start of the 90s, with some of them carrying their influence into future action spectacles. However, the 90s also saw a rise of action heroes that were more like relatable everymen compared to the unstoppable muscular juggernauts of the 80s, creating a unique voice for the generation of films. Predator’s Secret Trick Could Only Be Pulled Off By Arnold Schwarzenegger And Will Never Be Replicated
Image
There is literally only one star that could have made Predator's bait-and-switch work, and his name is Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies of the 1980s and 1990s are one of the best runs any actor has had in the genre, yielding several classics (The Terminator duology) and enduring favorites. By the time the first Predator arrived in 1987, Arnie was officially one of the biggest stars in the world - but he still took a risk with the project.

It's a unique fusion of action and horror and ends with Arnold's Dutch getting his ass thoroughly kicked by a giant alien. Had the movie not worked, it could have been an embarrassing failure that hurt his career. Instead, it launched Arnie to new heights, while spawning the Predator movie franchise. None of the sequels quite recaptured what made the original so special, which includes the sheer surprise of...

‘Creature Commandos’ Made a Big Mistake With That Major Death, But It Can Be Fixed
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for the Creature Commando Season 1 finale.Creature Commandos features the usual hallmark of a James Gunn project: a collection of misfits who are carrying around some immense trauma but manage to band together to either save others - or save themselves in the process. It's the same approach that powered his previous DC Comics projects The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, as well as his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel Studios. Commandos takes it one step further by dedicating each episode to exploring the backstories of its titular monsters, which adds some much-needed emotional depth — especially when it comes to G.I. Robot and Weasel (both voiced by Sean Gunn). The same approach is taken for the Season 1 finale, "A Very Funny Monster," though the outcome leaves a lot to be desired.

Bruce Willis Parodied His Die Hard Role For A Forgotten Action Comedy
Image
By the end of the 80s, the action genre was primed for parody. The decade gave rise to the muscle-bound action hero, who by the early 90s had already become something of an archetype in wider culture. So, you'd think something like "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1" would be a comedic hit when it debuted in 1993. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out that way.

The film stars Emilio Estevez as Sgt. Jack Colt, a parody of Mel Gibson's Martin Riggs from the "Lethal Weapon" films. Samuel L. Jackson plays his reluctant partner, Sgt. Wes Luger, himself a parody of Danny Glover's Roger Murtaugh. Together the LAPD duo embark on a mission to solve the murder of their fellow officer Sgt. Billy York (Whoopi Goldberg), which is essentially just an excuse for the film to, er, lampoon the action genre as a whole.

Throughout the movie, the writers take...

10 Best Fight Scenes in The Sopranos
Image
The Sopranos is a prestige TV show that completely changed what a one-hour crime drama could be. The show built its story around deep, complicated characters who were all involved with the mafia. The Soprano family was the focal point, but the series also dealt with the intricacies of the New Jersey Dimeo crime family. Throughout The Sopranos, violence and fighting were big themes.

While there is no shortage of fighting in The Sopranos, certain fight scenes altered the course of the show and stuck out more than others. Some fight scenes are so intense that the audience wants to close their eyes, even though it's impossible to look away. How Arnold Schwarzenegger Became a Billionaire
Image
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ascension to the status of a billionaire was not a result of the accumulated pension of an A-lister over the course of his successful career in Hollywood. The star of films such as The Terminator and True Lies has faced more ups and downs in his career than an amusement park roller coaster.

The Austrian-born bodybuilder has not only gained excellence and popularity in more fields than one but has also become one of the most globally recognized faces for the past 4 decades. Since his rise as Mr. Olympia-turned-Terminator, there has been no stopping the Governator – be it in film or politics.

And now, it seems like Schwarzenegger has spread his influence into real estate as well.

Bruce Willis Takes Pride In One Of His Most Notorious Flops
Image
Prior to its release in 1991, there was every reason to believe that Michael Lehmann's heist comedy "Hudson Hawk" would be a hit. It was written by star screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, who had already had gigantic success with film like "48 Hrs.," "Commando," "Jumping Jack Flash," and "The Running Man." His biggest smash was "Die Hard" in 1988, and he was tapped to write the sequel two years later. "Hudson Hawk" would re-team de Souza with "Die Hard" star Bruce Willis, and the film would boast performances from Danny Aiello, fresh from "Moonstruck," as well as James Coburn, Richard E. Grant, Sandra Bernhard, and Andie MacDowell. Lehmann, meanwhile, also had a big cult success in 1988 with "Heathers." Never mind that his bonkers mutant-bug movie "Meet the Applegates" bombed in 1990. The sensibility was there.

"Hudson Hawk" is an odd duck. Willis plays the titular cat burglar, freshly released from prison,...

Over-The-Top Action In Arnold Schwarzenegger's $57M Movie Leaves Expert Astonished For Its Inaccuracy: "Claymores Would Not Do That Much Damage”
Image
Arnold Schwarzenegger was, for a time, one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood. He still carries this reputation with him now at 77 years old, and many of his action flicks from the '80s and '90s have stood the test of time. Schwarzenegger's action hero tenure largely started with Conan the Barbarian in 1982, but it was 1984's The Terminator and his role as the T-800 that cemented him as a staple of the genre.

Movies from the '80s like Predator (1987) and The Running Man (1987) remain Scharzenegger action classics, as does 1990's Total Recall. The 90's saw the Austrian actor's domination of the action space continue with movies like Kindergarten Cop (1990), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994). There's one title from the '80s, however, that also lives on as not just a quintessential Schwarzenegger action movie, but as one that is emblematic of...

This Beloved Christmas Movie Continued an 8-Year-Old Arnold Schwarzenegger Trend
Image
Hollywood is full of tough guys. Sylvester Stallone, Liam Neeson, Bruce Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews...these are just some of the leading men known for their muscles and machismo. However, when talking about the brawniest performers, it's hard not to mention the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Back in 1982, Arnold Schwarzenegger broke onto the scene as the titular hero in Conan the Barbarian. Since then, the powerhouse has made a major name for himself in the action genre. He has starred in many high-octane classics, not limited to Total Recall, Predator, Commando, The Running Man, and of course, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. With his chiseled physique and distinct Austrian accent, the actor is well-suited to playing tough guys on screen. It's not surprising that he would feel at home in the genre. What is more surprising is that in the late '80s and '90s, right...

What Happened To The Cast Of 1990's Kindergarten Cop?
Image
"Kindergarten Cop" is the quintessential 90s movie. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, the defining action star of the era, in a role few thought he could pull off, and it's directed by one of the most prolific filmmakers of the decade. The film also features a cast of young actors just before they went on to achieve major success. Now, we're looking back at the talent involved in "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman's popular 1990 comedy to find out what they're up to these days, mainly because we love reminding ourselves just how old we are.

For those unaware, "Kindergarten Cop" follows Detective John Kimble (Arnold) as he goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to bust a dangerous criminal. Like "Twins," Reitman's previous collaboration with Arnold, "Kindergarten Cop" blends comedy with drama, plus a hefty dose of surprisingly violent action, resulting in the perfect movie to show kids of all ages in...

What Happened to Eraser?
Image
We all know Arnold Schwarzenegger terminated the 1980s as the premiere action movie star alongside Stallone, but what about the 90s? Beyond Total Recall, T-2: Judgment Day, and True Lies, what’s the best Arnie action flick released between 1990 and 1999? And when we mean best, we don’t mean box office success, we’re talking about old-school ass-kicking Schwarzenegger action hinting at the halcyon days that date back to Commando and Conan the Barbarian. Is it Last Action Hero? End of Days? Or is it Chuck Russell’s underrated 1996 conspiracy espionage thriller Eraser? If you said Junior, Jingle All the Way, or Batman & Robin, you may kindly show yourselves out the door this instant. Better yet, stick around, Eraser is about to wipe your memory and prove why it’s the last great Arnie action flick to blast the masses in the 1990s.

From the rocky relationship between producer and director,...

Coyote Movie The Villain Is A Flawed But Fun Adventure Movie Hollywood Has Produced A Range Of Looney Tunes-Inspired Films The Villain Is Overlooked And Worth A Watch

To say that Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most iconic action stars in Hollywood history would understate the recognition and fame of the star. Through his success in films like Predator, The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, and Commando, he became synonymous with the action genre. However, like many of the best stars in the film industry, he has some underrated and forgotten films from the start of his career -- including a Looney Tunes-inspired Western.

Although Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie career took off in the 1980s, the actor had a respectable acting career in the late 1970s too.

“I had no training of how you grab a woman…”: Arnold Schwarzenegger Struggled During Terminator Action Sequence Until Kristanna Loken Came to His Rescue
Image
Arnold Schwarzenegger accomplished a lot in his life. After being born in an obscure little village in Austria in 1947 and growing up with a temperamental father who used to serve in the Nazi Party during WWII, he climbed the social ladder by winning bodybuilding competitions across Europe, immigrated to the US in 1968, married into the high-profile Kennedy family in 1986, became the Governor of California in 2003, and remains the most famous actor today with a high celebrity net worth of $1 Billion.

Schwarzenegger remains one of the rare handful of people who symbolizes and proves that the American Dream is attainable, after all. The actor’s shift from bodybuilding to Hollywood to politics shows an ambitious turn for a man who merely lacked the tools he needed at birth to rise to his full potential and so taught himself to grab the bull by its...

I'm Officially Sold on DC's Creature Commandos (As a Better Version of the Suicide Squad)

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #1!

As a first-time reader of Creature Commandos, I wasnt sure what to expect, but Im now convinced that they are a darker and better version of DCs iconic Suicide Squad. With it being Spooky Season, this horror-based comic has quickly become a favorite of mine, and now, thanks to it, I can't wait for the TV show's premiere in December.

David Dastmalchian, Jess Hervs, Alex Guimares, and Ferran Delgados DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #1 is what Id consider a dark horse comicit surprised me with how great it was.

Its a book that is most likely not on most comic readers' radars, given it features a lesser-known team with more obscure characters. However, with the Creature Commandos TV series set to premiere on December 5, 2024, Im hoping more fans will give this comic a chance. It offers a fresh take on the beloved Suicide Squad premise,...

The Maniacs Behind Terrifier 3 Have A Wild Idea For Horror Icon Michael Myers [Exclusive Interview]
Image
It's hard to recommend the "Terrifier" films, seeing that they are the most violent, disgusting, and morally loathsome horror movies on the current cinematic landscape. But it's easy to warn people about them, and for the right breed of horror fan to take that warning as all the recommendation they need. God help me: I've become an Art the Clown fan, and each new entry in this ludicrously violent slasher series keeps finding new ways to test what I find acceptable in my entertainment.

"Terrifier 3" picks up the baton from its nasty, nightmarish predecessor and sprints with it. Like the surprise hit "Terrifier 2," the new movie is a nauseating experience where every death scene is masterclass in practical special effects wizardry. But also like the second movie, there's an eerie tinge of fantasy throughout the whole thing that makes it all feel like a weird dream to the viewer.

The Unlikely '80s Non-Horror Classics That Inspired The Grisly Terrifier 3 [Exclusive]
Image
The "Terrifier" franchise is known for its stomach-churning gore and impressive low-budget effects, but the most surprising aspect of Damien Leone's films isn't the horror –- it's the fantasy. The property, which began in 2016 and continues this month with its third blood-soaked installment, has incorporated elements of the surreal and fantastical since pretty early on. At the end of the first film, Art the killer clown (David Howard Thornton) comes back to life, and in the second movie, a mystical sword, visions of a little girl, and an unholy birth all come into play.

These fantasy elements make the "Terrifier" franchise feel more ambitious and mysterious than the average hyper-violent slasher, but they often don't get talked about as much as the movies' headline-grabbing, barf-inducing kills. In an interview ahead of the "Terrifier 3" premiere at Fantastic Fest this year, /Film's Jacob Hall asked writer, director, and producer Leone about his '80s influences,...

Sylvester Stallone & Arnold Schwarzenegger Fight in Escape Plan on Netflix
Image
Undeniably, two of Hollywood's most iconic action heroes and unforgettable leading men are Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, with both illustrious actors being staples on the silver screen for decades. The duo first skyrocketed to prominence in the '70s, with Stallone becoming a household name when he starred as Rocky Balboa in the Oscar-winning sports drama Rocky and Schwarzenegger serving as the focus for the critically acclaimed docudrama Pumping Iron.

The 1980s saw the cinema legends take on some of their most beloved action heroes, as Stallone went on to portray lone wolf soldier John Rambo while reprising his role as Balboa and Schwarzenegger dazzling moviegoers all across the world as the Terminator and in hits like Commando and Predator. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before the two legends would join forces on the screen, finally giving audiences what they wanted in the 2013 action thriller Escape Plan...

Bob Yerkes, Circus Trainer and ‘Back to the Future,’ ‘Remo Williams’ Stuntman, Dies at 92
Image
Bob Yerkes, the acrobatic stunt performer who slid down a clock tower cable for Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and hung around the Statue of Liberty under repair for Fred Ward in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, has died. He was 92.

Yerkes died Tuesday of natural causes in Northridge, Darlene Ava Williams, a stunt performer and one of his many mentees, announced.

The amiable Yerkes, who started out in the circus and was a skilled trapeze aerialist and tightrope walker, also plummeted from a helicopter through a roof in Breakout (1975), starring Charles Bronson.

“I was getting ready for the stunt and the guy said, ‘Break a Leg!,” and I broke them both,” he recalled in a 2017 interview. He said he also broke legs while working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Her Alibi (1989), but, in a career that spanned eight decades, that was the extent of his serious injuries.

Twins: Revisiting Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Amazing Foray Into Comedy
Image
Intro: Comedies involving a central pair of main characters usually have one thing in common; their premise is generally very simple. Take 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, for example. The Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels all-time classic comedy, in which two hapless, hopeless losers attempt to return a suitcase full of cash to its rightful owner, thrives on how simple both the plot and the two main characters are. The Farrellys had an amazing knack in the 1990s for delivering comedies that were hilarious because they had a simple idea for the plot, plus they weren’t worried about upsetting anybody with outrageous sequences. Those were the days. You couldn’t produce mainstream comedies such as Me, Myself and Irene, Kingpin or There’s Something About Mary nowadays, for fear of upsetting someone.

However, back in the late eighties, audiences, and studios, were a touch more liberal in their thinking, and...

Deadpool/Wolverine Comic Book Coming From Marvel Following Deadpool & Wolverine's Record-Breaking Success
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine broke countless box office records earlier this year and Marvel Comics is now capitalising on that with a new Deadpool/Wolverine comic book series.

While recent months have seen the characters share the page in a few different titles, this ongoing monthly series will reunite X-Force writer Benjamin Percy and artist Joshua Cassara as Wade Wilson and Logan set off on a mission to deal with a returning X-Men villain. Oh, and new revelations about their shared past.

According to Percy, Deadpool/Wolverine isn't directly inspired by the Marvel Studios threequel and was instead in development long before that arrived in theaters.

"The film was both a hit and a hoot, but we started working on this series long before we ever saw Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds tear each other apart in a Honda Odyssey," the writer tells IGN. "So I can’t say it was an influence,...

No kill zone: how revenge rampage Rebel Ridge is reinventing the action movie
Jeremy Saulnier
In a blood-soaked genre with an ever-escalating bodycount, Jeremy Saulnier’s Netflix hit about a marine forcibly disarming a corrupt police system is a refreshing version of vigilante justice

If you’ve watched enough action movies over the last decade or so, you’ve probably noticed what feels like a bit of … an escalation. In the original John Wick, Keanu Reeves shoots, stabs and car-crashes his way through 77 mostly-unnamed mooks; by John Wick 4, he’s up to 140. Bullet Train, right at the whimsical-comedy end of the ballistic-ballet spectrum, features 152 individual onscreen deaths; Extraction 2, very much on the laugh-free side, has 108..

Rebel Ridge, which scored 31.2m views over its first six days on Netflix, feels like an almost-deliberate antidote to all this carnage. Yes, it’s a classic bit of dad-coded competence porn: a tall, muscular stranger rolls into a small town run by corrupt cops, and proves to be...
